The Pursuit of Love After Divorcing My Cold Omega - Chapter 38
“President Yu is So Busy She Forgot Her Own Fiancée”
Yu Kunian did not find herself completely free the following day. The conclusion of the investment fair meant she had to dedicate even more time to negotiating cooperation details with interested clients; she barely had a moment to check her phone.
Song Wenzhi had mentioned she was going out shopping with Xia Weichi. Yu Kunian wasn’t worried; she had expected as much.
However, the lunch hour she had specifically carved out was now hers alone. Song Wenzhi was clearly still with Xia Weichi, and Yu Kunian had no intention of interrupting them.
After finishing her final morning meeting with a client, Yu Kunian was pondering how to solve her solitary lunch when an unknown number suddenly called.
The Alpha picked up. She assumed it was a client from Zhaoming Biotech, given how many contact cards she had distributed the previous day. “Hello, this is Yu Kunian.”
“Hello there, President Yu.” The female voice on the other end sounded very young, unlike the seasoned business owners from yesterday’s fair. “I obtained your contact info from someone else. I hope I’m not disturbing you?”
Yu Kunian paused for a heartbeat. This sounded like a referral. Though she didn’t know who the source was, she replied politely, “Not at all. It’s an honor.”
The person on the other end seemed surprised by her politeness for a moment. “I’ve always heard that President Yu is cold and aloof. I didn’t expect the rumors to be false; you sound quite easy to get along with.”
Yu Kunian replied, “You flatter me.”
“I won’t beat around the bush, President Yu. I’m calling to ask if you’re free now. Let’s meet and talk in detail.” The caller clearly disliked excessive pleasantries and went straight to the point.
Yu Kunian asked, “To discuss a partnership?”
“Partnership?” The voice repeated the word with a hint of confusion, but after a short pause, she laughed and continued, “That’s right, let’s call it a partnership. So, President Yu, are you free?”
“I am,” Yu Kunian said. She checked the time; although it was short notice, it shouldn’t interfere with her afternoon schedule. “Do you need me to set a location?”
“No need, come find me. I’ve already booked a table.”
The woman sent a text message with the detailed address of a restaurant. Yu Kunian acknowledged it, and the call was quickly disconnected. The Alpha froze, realizing she hadn’t even asked for the woman’s name or which company she represented.
Nevertheless, since the appointment was made, Yu Kunian went.
Driving to the destination, she located the so-called “partner” at a table in the first-floor lobby. The person was a girl who looked a few years younger than herself. Upon seeing her, the girl raised a hand and waved.
Yu Kunian sat down across from her and couldn’t help but observe her for a moment.
The person in front of her wore a denim miniskirt paired with tall boots. Her hair was styled in fresh “wool curls,” and she had round eyes. The dimples on both cheeks added a touch of playfulness to her overall aura.
“Hello, President Yu. My surname is Li, and my name is Li Ci.”
Li Ci spoke first, reaching out her hand toward Yu Kunian with a smile. Yu Kunian’s first reaction was that the name sounded familiar—she felt she had heard it somewhere before, but she couldn’t recall where at that moment.
The Alpha also reached out. “A pleasure to meet you.”
Li Ci observed her reaction, her smile deepening. After withdrawing her hand, she rested her chin on her palm and said unhurriedly, “It seems President Yu doesn’t remember me.”
Yu Kunian frowned slightly. “Have we met?”
She had no memory of this face.
Li Ci shook her head. “We haven’t. But logically speaking, President Yu should have heard my name. Based on your reaction just now, it seems you’ve completely forgotten.”
Yu Kunian felt even more puzzled. No matter how she searched her memory, she couldn’t find anything related to “Li Ci.” She could only say, “I truly cannot recall.”
“President Yu is so busy she forgets things; you don’t even remember your own fiancée.” Li Ci’s words were shocking, but she spoke calmly, as if the identity of “fiancée” was a long-settled matter. Yu Kunian was stunned for a long while, her face filled with confusion.
Yu Kunian said, “I don’t have a fiancée.”
Li Ci’s smile grew more radiant. “You are the Yu Kunian of Zhaoming Biotech, aren’t you? I haven’t mistaken the person.”
With that, Li Ci pulled a wedding invitation from her bag and placed it on the table. Yu Kunian picked it up and opened it. It was a wedding invitation with both of their names clearly written on it.
In that instant, Yu Kunian finally remembered the name “Li Ci.”
Wasn’t this the Omega that Yu Dai had originally chosen—the one who had suddenly run away on the day they were supposed to meet?
Yu Kunian stood up, her expression turning cold. “Miss Li, I am certain that I am not engaged, and I certainly haven’t sent out any wedding invitations. If Yu Dai sent you to find me, please go back. I will not marry you.”
Hearing this, Li Ci took the invitation back. She wasn’t surprised by Yu Kunian’s sudden change in demeanor. Instead, she waved her hand. “Sit down first. Don’t worry, I’m not here to marry you.”
Yu Kunian sat back down half-doubtingly. She stared at Li Ci, but she couldn’t find any flaws in the Omega’s expression.
“I made this invitation myself. And Auntie Yu didn’t send me to find you. I sneaked back to Lihua City; my mother doesn’t even know,” Li Ci said, lowering her voice, especially on the last sentence.
“Why would you make an invitation?” Yu Kunian looked at her strangely, feeling that Li Ci was nowhere near the “well-behaved and sensible” description Yu Dai had given. Instead, she seemed rather inexplicable.
Li Ci’s gaze fell on the invitation. She pursed her lips and gave a light huff. “For nothing much, just to annoy someone.”
Yu Kunian’s expression shifted. “…Miss Li, did you send the invitations out?”
Li Ci nodded. “Of course. Why make them if I’m not going to send them? But don’t worry, I only sent one copy. That person probably doesn’t know you, so it won’t affect you.”
Yu Kunian hesitated to speak, her brow furrowing tighter. She hadn’t expected that behind her back, a bizarre wedding invitation had already been delivered to someone.
After some thought, Yu Kunian refrained from saying more. She only wanted to end this meeting that shouldn’t have happened. “Then Miss Li didn’t seek me out to discuss a partnership?”
Li Ci said, “Of course I did. I came specifically to discuss a partnership with you.”
Yu Kunian asked, “What does Miss Li want to discuss?”
“About our engagement, of course.”
“When we were supposed to meet, Miss Li was the one who failed to show up.”
“From your tone, President Yu, are you complaining that I ran away?” Li Ci blinked and leaned in a bit closer, teasing her aimlessly. “Could it be that President Yu took a liking to me and actually really wants to marry me, so… you’re angry?”
Yu Kunian was speechless at her imagination and quickly leaned back, intending to draw a clear line between them. “No. Miss Li, I want to say that I will not marry you. I already have a girlfriend. So, regarding our marriage arrangement, please let’s cancel it. I have no intention of forming an alliance with the Li family.”
“That’s perfect. I have no intention of marrying you either. The talk of an alliance was just a passing mention.” Li Ci smiled. Her decision had been made in a fit of pique to annoy a certain Alpha; otherwise, she wouldn’t have fled the scene on the day of the meeting. “So, as long as we don’t disturb each other from now on, that’s fine. I will explain things to my family. It won’t affect your dating life. Do you agree to this ‘partnership’, President Yu?”
Yu Kunian said, “I agree.” She wished for this engagement to end as soon as possible so it would no longer be a stumbling block.
Fortunately, Li Ci wasn’t going to cause any more trouble. Although she was a bit eccentric, she was at least reasonable.
Yu Kunian thought this “partnership” should conclude here. She was about to get up and leave when Li Ci suddenly seemed to spot someone. The Omega, who had also intended to leave, abruptly turned and stepped in front of the Alpha, placing a hand firmly on her shoulder.
The Alpha looked up in confusion, and the Omega quickly leaned down toward her.
With no room to retreat, Yu Kunian could only reach out to try and push her away, caught off guard. “What are you doing?”
Li Ci ignored her reaction and instead pressed down on her with force. For a moment, Yu Kunian couldn’t break free. She heard Li Ci say to her: “A-Nian, even if you have a girlfriend, I still want to be with you.”
What the hell.
What kind of act was this now?
Hearing Li Ci call her “A-Nian,” Yu Kunian’s entire body went stiff, as if she had been struck by lightning.
“Miss Li, please behave yourself.” Yu Kunian continued to try and push her away, her patience wearing thin. “I don’t like you. There’s no possibility for us. Please stay away from me.”
Yu Kunian found this version of Li Ci terrifying because the Omega was gazing at her with deep affection, which made her feel utterly repulsed. They had only been meeting for less than ten minutes, yet Li Ci’s reaction was like that of someone who had been deeply in love for years but couldn’t have her.
“We have an engagement. If you can’t come to like me in a short time, then I will wait ten years for you.” Li Ci felt for the first time that her acting skills were quite good. She glanced at the person who had just walked through the door while becoming even more emotional. “You can push me away countless times, but I will still come looking for you. Even if you scold me or hate me, I want to be with you. For you, I can give up everything. I’m willing to endure any hardship.”
Yu Kunian: “…”
This person had flipped her script in a heartbeat. Hadn’t they just reached an agreement? Was she a professional actor? She got into character so fast.
And why the sudden change? The Alpha was completely baffled. She met Li Ci’s eyes, unable to understand what was happening.
“Miss Li, let alone ten years—even if it’s fifty or a hundred years, I will never like you.” Yu Kunian’s voice returned to its cold, piercing tone. She wanted to use her usual presidential pressure to shut Li Ci up. “Can you let go of me first? I disli—”
Before she could finish, Li Ci suddenly covered her mouth. Yu Kunian froze again, her words silenced.
Yu Kunian’s brow furrowed even deeper. She was already tempted to use her pheromones to forcibly make the Omega back off, but Li Ci suddenly winked at her with a look of triumph. The Alpha was once again bewildered.
In the next moment, the Omega’s hand was grabbed by another person and pulled away from Yu Kunian.
Li Ci jerked backward, seemingly caught off guard, but she had actually anticipated this. She deliberately stumbled and turned around with a change of face, shouting angrily at the person who had pulled her away, “Shen Qi, what are you doing!”
The Omega was held by the hand by the woman named “Shen Qi.” Li Ci almost stumbled into Shen Qi’s arms. Yu Kunian was finally rescued. She stood up with a frown, only to find that Shen Qi’s face was dark, staring at her with fury.
“…” Yu Kunian seemed to understand something. She looked at the Omega, whose lips were still harboring a hidden smile and a look of immense satisfaction. She couldn’t help but feel even more speechless.
It turned out this Omega had deliberately used her to put on a show for Shen Qi. She was sure that the words Li Ci had shouted at the end had been heard loud and clear by Shen Qi.
It appeared the only invitation that had been sent out was given to this Alpha.
Li Ci broke free from Shen Qi’s grip at just the right moment and pretended to stomp off in a huff. Shen Qi didn’t have time to pick a fight with Yu Kunian and immediately chased after her.
Yu Kunian’s phone received a new message from Li Ci: Thanks for the cooperation, President Yu. I owe you one. I’ll pay you back later.
The Alpha hadn’t really “cooperated” just now. It was just that in a public place, unless absolutely necessary, she wouldn’t use her pheromones, nor would she discard her image just to break free. She probably just… had no other choice.
Without replying to the message, Yu Kunian prepared to leave. To her surprise, as soon as she stepped out, she saw Song Wenzhi and Xia Weichi standing there. From their angle, they were looking exactly at the spot where she and Li Ci had been “entangled.”
Yu Kunian’s heart suddenly skipped a beat.
