The Pursuit of Love After Divorcing My Cold Omega - Chapter 3
“Hello, we meet again.”
Yu Kunian wasn’t lying, nor was she acting on an impulse; she had already conceived this idea yesterday afternoon.
By listening to Jiang Qiu’s endless gossiping, she had gathered a fair amount of information about Song Wenzhi to use as a reference. Word was that Song Wenzhi’s romantic history was a total blank, but there was an Alpha who was always by her side. They seemed to be longtime friends, and it appeared the Alpha was interested in Song Wenzhi.
In all the time she had been in Lihua City, Song Wenzhi had more suitors than one could count. However, most ended up defeated by her cold, unmovable heart, while a small portion were handled by that Alpha friend, who would step in to explicitly reject and drive them away.
Rumors circulated within the university that Song Wenzhi and that Alpha were already together. However, according to sources of insider, Song Wenzhi was still single and had yet to show interest in anyone.
Jiang Qiu advised her to avoid direct confrontation with that Alpha, if possible, but Yu Kunian remained indifferent. Since she intended to pursue Song Wenzhi, there was no need to be secretive. Even if she had to face the other person head-on, she wasn’t afraid.
They were just friends, not a couple.
Besides, if they hadn’t got together after all these years, they likely never would.
Thus, the next morning, Yu Kunian rose early and drove into Lihua University, heading straight for the college where Song Wenzhi worked. Unfortunately, she hadn’t managed to find Song Wenzhi’s specific schedule before the semester started. She waited at Song Wenzhi’s office all morning without seeing a single soul.
The piano room where they had first met yesterday didn’t seem to offer a chance for a sequel either; Song Wenzhi didn’t even pass by. Finding it incredibly boring to just sit there, Yu Kunian decided to wander around the Alpha-Omega College while searching for her.
She “roamed” until two in the afternoon, her naturally immense patience nearly exhausted, yet there was still no sign of Song Wenzhi. Yu Kunian thought to herself that the next time they met, she absolutely had to get Song Wenzhi’s contact information.
Just as she turned to head back to Song Wenzhi’s office to wait again, someone unexpectedly approached her first.
“President Yu.” Someone called from behind her. The person looked capable—a Beta senior older than Yu Kunian.
Yu Kunian turned around and found the face familiar. It wasn’t until the woman approached with an outstretched hand and said with a light smile, “Long time no see, I didn’t expect to run into President Yu here,” that Yu Kunian remembered: this was Director Qin from Lihua University’s Student Affairs Center.
Director Qin had previously invited Yu Kunian to give a lecture at the university, but Yu Kunian had no interest and had politely declined.
“I haven’t been busy lately, so I came for a visit,” Yu Kunian replied with a polite handshake and a nod.
Director Qin usually maintained a kind and smiling demeanor. She had an extensive network, and even Yu Kunian showed her a degree of respect. Hearing that Yu Kunian was free, Director Qin naturally revived her previous intentions and extended an olive branch once again:
“There’s a lecture on campus on opening day related to your area of research, President Yu. I wonder if you’d be interested in taking the stage this time?”
Yu Kunian had little interest in public speaking. She wasn’t one for eloquent oratory; in fact, she had rejected many interview invitations within Lihua City before.
“Perhaps you could consider it more, President Yu. It’s being held within the Alpha-Omega College”
Before she could finish, she was interrupted by a ringing phone.
Yu Kunian followed Director Qin’s movement and caught a glimpse of the caller ID: Teacher Song.
Yu Kunian’s fingertips twitched instinctively. Her gaze locked onto the phone screen, and her heart skipped a beat reflexive reaction to that surname. Perhaps because she had been thinking about her all day, the moment she saw the word “Song,” her first thought was Song Wenzhi.
Wanting to verify her suspicion, Yu Kunian felt a rare, unconscious flash of anxiety. She watched as Director Qin slowly answered the call. A second later, due to the slight distance, Yu Kunian couldn’t hear perfectly, but she was certain the caller was Song Wenzhi.
Yu Kunian listened quietly. She heard them discussing something regarding an event itinerary. Director Qin, worried about keeping Yu Kunian waiting, wanted to meet the caller in person to talk, but a voice from the receiver said, “Director Qin, I’m not at the university today.”
Yu Kunian heard this sentence very clearly. It really was Song Wenzhi. It seemed her trip to Lihua University today had been in vain.
Upon hearing this, Director Qin planned to ask Yu Kunian to wait a moment in a nearby teaching building, but Yu Kunian waved her off. “It’s fine. I’ll wait for you to finish your call.”
As her voice rang out, Song Wenzhi seemed to freeze for a moment on the other end. Only after a pause did she say, “Director Qin, if you are busy right now, we can discuss this later.”
“No need, no need. I just happened to run into President Yu and we’re talking about the lecture. Actually, you are one of the organizers for this lecture—help me think of a way to convince President Yu to come.”
Director Qin made the remark half-jokingly. There was a brief silence from Song Wenzhi’s end. Yu Kunian thought she was pondering a persuasive argument, but instead, Song Wenzhi simply asked:
“Which President Yu?”
Standing right beside Director Qin and hearing this, Yu Kunian let out a laugh, her eyebrows arching beautifully.
“Oh… oh, I forgot to introduce you.” Director Qin’s expression held a hint of surprise, but she quickly reacted by handing the phone to Yu Kunian. “President Yu, you two can get to know each other. This is Teacher Song Wenzhi from the Alpha-Omega College.”
Yu Kunian took the phone. “How about I introduce myself to you in person on the day of the lecture, Teacher Song?”
Director Qin said in pleasant surprise, “President Yu, does this mean you’ve agreed to the lecture?”
Yu Kunian nodded. “Director Qin’s invitation was very sincere, and the lecture topic happens to align with my company’s business direction. Giving a speech would be a good promotional opportunity for the company.”
Finding it rare for Yu Kunian to agree so easily, Director Qin, fearing she might back out, hurried her to the office to discuss the details. Yu Kunian didn’t ask much else, save for one question:
Whether she would have the chance to talk to Song Wenzhi privately on the day of the lecture.
After receiving an affirmative answer, Yu Kunian agreed to whatever else Director Qin proposed without hesitation.
However, after receiving the requirements for the speech topic and returning home, Yu Kunian realized in hindsight that this was going to be tricky. First, there were only a few days left before Lihua University opened, so time was tight. Second, she really wasn’t good at public speaking, even with a prepared script.
That night, Yu Kunian tried to learn by browsing various speech videos. While searching, she found a video of a debate competition from Song Wenzhi’s early days, before she moved to Lihua City.
The title was: Emergency Substitution—Omega Wins First Place in Debate!
Curious, Yu Kunian clicked on it. Back then, Song Wenzhi’s face still looked somewhat youthful—she was likely still in university—but her logic was much clearer than the opposition’s. Faced with a rather tricky topic, Song Wenzhi’s ability to improvise was on full display.
She wasn’t led astray by the opposing side and articulated her viewpoints methodically throughout the entire round. She looked completely in control. No one could have imagined that, as a substitute, she had arrived at the scene only twenty minutes prior with zero preparation and no familiarity with her teammates.
Song Wenzhi not only knew how to control the room, but she also possessed an enviable logical mind. Whether it was speaking or debating, it all seemed effortless for her.
Yu Kunian inadvertently replayed the video several times. Her gaze lingered on Song Wenzhi’s eyes, which sparkled brilliantly during the debate; she felt a sense of familiarity.
Unfortunately, she couldn’t pinpoint where that familiarity came from. Yu Kunian brushed it off as overthinking; after all, if she had known such an impressive Omega, it was unlikely she would have forgotten her.
Likewise, such a charismatic Omega made Yu Kunian’s eyes light up. Compared to the docile Omegas Yang Jin and Yu Dai had picked for her and given that there was no emotional foundation in either case, she was far more interested in Song Wenzhi.
Yu Kunian attempted to significantly improve her speaking skills in a short time, but it proved difficult. Although the lecture didn’t necessarily have to be perfect—it was just an excuse to get close to Song Wenzhi—Yu Kunian didn’t want to appear lacking in charm in front of her.
Since she was going in with the intention of winning her over, she had to be fully prepared. Consequently, Yu Kunian studied various speech videos late into the night, revising her own script over and over. For the first time in her life, she was startled to find she possessed such a significant weakness.
The problem plaguing Yu Kunian remained unresolved even as the day of the lecture arrived. She was still tweaking the wording of her script three hours before the event. Thinking back on her role as “President Yu,” the number of times she had spoken at length in public was few and far between. For a moment, she was uncharacteristically nervous.
She thought she would be able to greet Song Wenzhi quickly upon arriving at the lecture hall. However, as the organizer, Song Wenzhi was busy from the very start, staying backstage for a long time. Yu Kunian could only catch glimpses of her busy figure.
Director Qin, who had invited her, arrived early to chat. After a few exchanges, Yu Kunian learned that the idea to invite her had actually been Song Wenzhi’s in the beginning, though Song Wenzhi had been hesitant.
As for why Director Qin was the one to ask, it was because after learning that Yu Kunian had publicly stated her dislike for interviews and speeches, Song Wenzhi had crossed the idea off.
Director Qin had seen the suggestion by chance and felt it was worth a try, so she had sought out Yu Kunian personally. During that process, Song Wenzhi had tried to talk her out of it several times, but despite being rejected, Director Qin persisted until she finally succeeded.
“The products from President Yu’s company are widely used in Teacher Song’s college. Teacher Song told me before that although she understands those products well, if someone were to really speak on them, President Yu would be the most suitable,” Director Qin said, slowly pointing in Song Wenzhi’s direction.
Yu Kunian was amused. “So… Teacher Song knows who I am?”
Director Qin said, “Of course. She has been following your company; she just never had the chance to meet you.”
Yu Kunian’s lips curled into a light smile. She wondered: back in the piano room, was Song Wenzhi so nervous that she didn’t know what to say?
It was impossible to imagine Teacher Song who was currently organizing everything with such ease being the same person who had played the wrong notes and fled on the pretext of a phone call.
Thinking of this, Yu Kunian couldn’t help herself. After a few more brief words with Director Qin, she impatiently walked over and stopped beside the busy Song Wenzhi.
“Hello, we meet again.”
