The Pursuit of Love After Divorcing My Cold Omega - Chapter 29
“To be able to win your heart, Zhizhi, was always my honor.”
Hearing Xia Weichi’s words, Song Wenzhi couldn’t help but frown as she asked, “Will you tell her?”
Xia Weichi replied, “Xiao zhi, to inform her or not is your right. I respect that; I won’t interfere, nor will I make the decision for you.”
“Thank you, Weichi.” Song Wenzhi knew that Xia Weichi was always looking out for her, and she was deeply grateful. She calmed her breathing slightly before asking again, “After a temporary marking, will my loss of control improve?”
“Yes. As long as that Alpha’s pheromones can provide you with timely comfort afterward, the probability of losing control will decrease significantly. It’s very beneficial for you.”
Although surprised by the haste of Song Wenzhi’s decision, Xia Weichi nonetheless felt a sense of relief. Song Wenzhi used inhibitors far too frequently, a constant source of worry. For the Omega to finally be willing to accept an Alpha’s pheromones was, at the very least, a good thing—provided their time together was meant to last a lifetime.
Amidst a mix of sorrow and joy, Xia Weichi sighed silently.
“Xiaozhi, I hope I’m just overthinking things.” If that Alpha was serious, it couldn’t be better. More than anyone, she hoped Song Wenzhi would no longer suffer from the torment of her condition, and she frequently prayed that Song Wenzhi would never experience an abnormality again.
If that were the case, she would offer her heartfelt congratulations one hundred percent.
Song Wenzhi’s fingertips paused. “Don’t worry.” Just as she finished speaking, the door to the lounge was pushed open by the returning Yu Kunian. Song Wenzhi hurriedly blurted out, “I have to go,” and ended the call. She watched as Yu Kunian approached and sat beside her, but she suddenly felt a surge of nervousness and helplessness.
Xia Weichi had once again brought to the surface the question she had been deliberately ignoring. Song Wenzhi pressed her lips together, and in the gaze, she directed at Yu Kunian, there was a hidden, small, but steadily spreading worry at the bottom of her eyes.
Yu Kunian asked her, “What did your doctor friend say?”
Song Wenzhi said, “It might have been an unexpected failure of the inhibitor. A temporary marking from an Alpha can block this from happening. After today, there shouldn’t be any more loss of control.”
“Is the inhibitor she formulated for you unreliable?” Yu Kunian didn’t have any suspicions toward the person, but she felt the medication was truly useless. “Has it been tested? Are you sure it isn’t some corner-cutting, defective product?”
“You seem to have a prejudice against her.” Song Wenzhi turned to look at her, remembering that last time Yu Kunian had also suspected the medicine Xia Weichi provided was fake. “But she belongs to an international medical organization; she is very famous in the medical world and very professional.”
Yu Kunian chuckled. “I don’t deny her professionalism, but based on the repeated emergencies with your body—which are quite severe—I have doubts about her medical ethics. Under normal circumstances, an Omega doesn’t experience accidental loss of pheromone control. Zhizhi, are you sure you aren’t being deceived by her?”
The Alpha’s words weren’t without logic. In Yu Kunian’s eyes, Song Wenzhi was a healthy Omega. Yet, she had discovered two instances of loss of control within a very short interval; anyone would think there was a problem, and it was only natural to suspect the medication.
There had been previous cases in the city involving counterfeit or defective inhibitors that led to issues with an Omega’s glands. Such news was actually quite common a few years ago until the Committee cracked down on the pharmaceutical industry. However, that didn’t mean such situations had been completely eradicated.
“Don’t worry, I won’t be cheated,” Song Wenzhi reassured her.
Yu Kunian nodded. “If there is any discomfort in your glands, tell me. The doctors in Lihua City are also very professional. I’ll go with you to see one; you can’t ignore glandular health.”
“And what if… what if my glands aren’t healthy?” Song Wenzhi paused for a moment before asking tentatively.
Yu Kunian knit her brows slightly. “Zhizhi, don’t curse yourself.”
It was an answer that wasn’t quite an answer, and it caused Song Wenzhi’s courage to explain to vanish instantly. She realized that Yu Kunian had perhaps never considered that her Omega might have damaged glands; such a scenario wasn’t even within the Alpha’s scope of consideration.
Thus, Song Wenzhi retreated once again. She didn’t know how to say it. Her worries wrapped around her once more. Although Yu Kunian’s response was just a normal one, she still couldn’t help but analyze the worst-case scenario.
And of course, there was another factor.
Yu Kunian’s two mothers probably wouldn’t allow Yu Kunian’s Omega to have damaged glands, would they?
As high-level leaders of the Committee, the reputations of Yu Dai and Yang Jin were well-known to Song Wenzhi. They were dedicated to cultivating Yu Kunian into Lihua City’s most outstanding entrepreneur; naturally, they would not tolerate other flaws.
Song Wenzhi’s fingertips turned cold. Her breath trembled, and she heard Yu Kunian asking her what was wrong. The Omega didn’t speak; her eyelashes flickered as she slowly turned toward Yu Kunian. Then, she leaned closer to the Alpha, burying her cheek into Yu Kunian’s shoulder.
“Yu Kunian, I don’t think I’m as good as you think I am.” She had her own selfish motives, her cowardly ego, and her repeated, greedy retreats.
Hearing this, Yu Kunian was stunned for a moment. Then, she stroked Song Wenzhi’s back, lowered her gaze, and held her tight. Her voice was soft: “Zhizhi, in my eyes, you are perfect no matter what.”
Song Wenzhi said, “But I’m not perfect.”
Yu Kunian’s cheek pressed against her hair. “No one is perfect. There is no such thing as a perfect person, right? But you are already good enough. I see that, and I don’t need anything more. You have to embrace yourself and allow yourself to be imperfect.”
“Yu Kunian…”
“Zhizhi, I have flaws too. I have my bad points. I am easily ruled by my emotions and say hurtful things in the heat of the moment. I am stubborn and headstrong. I did make Zhaoming Biotech flourish, but I also once caused the company heavy losses because I refused to listen to advice. I’ve made plenty of mistakes. But what do you think of me?”
“I think you are very good.”
Yu Kunian released Song Wenzhi and brushed the stray hairs from her eyes. The Alpha’s gaze was sincere and earnest as she cupped Song Wenzhi’s face, smiling as she said, “I feel the same way. Zhizhi, I think you are very good. Everyone has flaws, but who completely denies a person just because they have shortcomings?”
The Alpha paused before adding, “I will accept everything about you, including the bad parts. I didn’t get together with a ‘perfect’ Song Wenzhi; I am dating the whole of Zhizhi.”
Every time, Song Wenzhi felt as if she had nowhere to hide in front of Yu Kunian. Because she liked her, she was always pondering whether she was a match for Yu Kunian; all the disparities gave rise to a lack of confidence, yet Yu Kunian always held her hand with unwavering determination.
In front of the person she liked, Song Wenzhi would get nervous.
And the words Yu Kunian spoke always brought her a passionate sense of certainty.
The Omega and Alpha locked eyes. The warm smile in Yu Kunian’s eyes dissipated her unease. Song Wenzhi took Yu Kunian’s hand, her thumb stroking the back of the Alpha’s hand as she pretended nothing was wrong. “You make it sound so sacred.”
“To be able to win your heart, Zhizhi, was always my honor,” Yu Kunian said with a smile, pulling her into her arms.
Song Wenzhi remained silent. She thought to herself that she would find a suitable day to explain her situation to Yu Kunian, but not today. Before she had fully figured out how to say it, she decided to hide it for the time being. At least in the short term, her pheromones would not lose control again.
The guidance for the speech at the investment fair was finally nearing its end. Song Wenzhi hoped to help Yu Kunian; although she didn’t understand much about the business world, she could sense that Zhaoming Biotech was staking its success on this fair.
Yu Kunian still had to work overtime. After taking Song Wenzhi out for dinner, she hailed a taxi for her and made plans to meet the next day at noon. Back at the company, Yu Kunian listened to her assistant’s report, but she was somewhat distracted. No one knew what she was thinking.
The lights in the conference room flickered on again. The project team sharpened their spirits, listening to various analytical reports, feeling that tonight would be another late one. However, an unexpected text message seemed to “rescue” them all.
Yu Kunian looked at the words “Come home right now” sent by Yang Jin on her phone. Her expression didn’t change, but her fingertips turned white from the force of her grip. A flicker of emotion passed through her eyes, and a hint of irritability appeared between her brows.
“Stop,” Yu Kunian said to the employee giving the report. her eyes were as sharp as ever; no one in the room dared to breathe, thinking something had gone wrong.
Unexpectedly, Yu Kunian just quietly glanced at the screen in front of her and then said calmly, “Meeting adjourned.”
After notifying her assistant to move the meeting to tomorrow morning, Yu Kunian left the company and drove toward the home of Yu Dai and Yang Jin. Yu Kunian didn’t seem surprised that Yang Jin had called her home, and she seemed to know exactly why she was being called back.
On the way back, the sky that hadn’t yet turned completely dark was gradually covered by dark clouds. The sky grew darker and darker, shrouding the entirety of Lihua City in a layer of gloom. What had been a clear morning had turned into a sky full of oppressive clouds; the air seemed to turn humid, making one’s mood feel heavy.
As Yu Kunian’s car was about to enter the underground garage, a sudden bolt of lightning struck, sounding as if it would tear the sky apart. It was deafening and enough to make one’s heart tremble. Yu Kunian’s face was illuminated by the lights outside the car; as she drove into the garage, the Alpha’s expression looked grim in the flickering light.
When she pushed open the front door, Yu Kunian heard the sound of rain crashing against the hallway windows—heavy, loud, and dense.
Yu Kunian stepped inside, closed the door, and looked at Yu Dai on the sofa, as well as Yang Jin, who had come to greet her upon hearing the noise. She asked indifferently, “What is it?”
Before Yang Jin could speak, Yu Dai didn’t even turn her head as she spoke with a cold sneer, “Yu Kunian, it seems I underestimated your courage.”
Yu Kunian glanced at Yang Jin, who was standing to the side looking worried, and then walked into the living room. “I don’t know what you mean, Mother.”
“You don’t know? Fine.” Fuming with rage, Yu Dai grabbed a file from the table, stood up, and threw it toward Yu Kunian, shouting, “You dare do it but not admit it, Yu Kunian?”
The file wasn’t bound; the pages instantly scattered in mid-air, raining down completely over Yu Kunian’s head. Yu Kunian didn’t look at them. She just stared at Yu Dai, watching her mother’s uncontrollable fury with a sense of inner calm—and a touch of triumph.
