The Pursuit of Love After Divorcing My Cold Omega - Chapter 28
“Zhizhi, you are my Omega.”
Song Wenzhi wasn’t asking; it was a form of tacit consent.
Yu Kunian hadn’t expected Song Wenzhi to say that, but the statement was correct. A temporary mark was indeed much better than a suppressant. An Alpha’s mark could be many times more effective than any drug.
Even though it was only temporary, to Yu Kunian, this was a sign of Song Wenzhi accepting her further. Still, the Alpha was uncertain, so she asked once more, “Can I temporarily mark you?”
Song Wenzhi looked into her eyes. “You can, Yu Kunian.”
As soon as the words left her lips, Yu Kunian pulled Song Wenzhi into a slightly firm embrace. The Alpha’s cheek brushed against Song Wenzhi’s ear, her breath fluttering against the fair skin of her neck. A moment later, Yu Kunian’s lips paused gently on Song Wenzhi’s shoulder.
A soft kiss, separated by clothing and devoid of the direct heat of lips on skin, was placed on Song Wenzhi’s shoulder with sincerity and intimacy.
Yu Kunian said nothing more, simply holding Song Wenzhi as they sat down. Yu Kunian stood before Song Wenzhi, staying very close to her. The Alpha lowered her head and brushed aside Song Wenzhi’s hair, her movements slow to ensure Song Wenzhi wouldn’t feel uncomfortable.
Sensing Song Wenzhi’s tension, Yu Kunian took one of her hands. Her eyes remained on the Omega, but her upward-curving lips settled into a smile against Song Wenzhi’s fingertips. For a moment, it wasn’t just the pheromones comforting Song Wenzhi, but also Yu Kunian’s ever-attentive patience. Song Wenzhi smiled back at the Alpha.
The Omega remained submissive throughout, feeling the Alpha’s pheromones envelop her, and then receiving the temporary mark—an act that was unfamiliar yet deeply craved.
The scents of coconut candy and mint blended completely. The pheromones Song Wenzhi released now clearly and strongly carried the presence of an Alpha’s scent. Unlike the irritating nature of suppressants, a temporary mark was gentle, making one instinctively linger.
What Yu Kunian gave her was a possessive gentleness and a perfectly timed embrace.
The two held hands, fingers intertwined. As the temporary marking concluded, the spiraling pheromones were brought under control, yet the Alpha continued to hold the Omega tightly. She closed her eyes, lightly inhaling the scent of the Omega who now belonged to her, an unconscious greed growing in her heart.
Song Wenzhi gradually calmed down. The pain at her gland dissipated entirely. She felt a sense of security she had never known before; from now on, she could be free from these troubles. She wouldn’t have to rely on massive doses of potent suppressants or endure the discomfort of losing control over her pheromones alone.
At that thought, the Omega felt at peace.
Yu Kunian’s expression was tender as she lightly stroked Song Wenzhi’s cheek. “Do you feel any better?”
Song Wenzhi nodded. “Mm, I’m okay now.”
Relieved, Yu Kunian tucked away a few stray strands of Song Wenzhi’s hair. With a face full of smiles, she rubbed the corner of Song Wenzhi’s eye with her thumb, her voice laced with possessiveness: “Zhizhi, you are my Omega.”
Song Wenzhi’s gaze was no longer as indifferent as usual. Her eyes were trembling slightly, and as she looked deeply at the Alpha, a hint of spring-like warmth emerged in her gaze.
She was hers; they belonged to each other.
At this moment, Song Wenzhi wanted to confess the things she had been hiding from Yu Kunian.
In their shared gaze, it seemed as if a thousand words were being exchanged. Yu Kunian’s eyes swept over Song Wenzhi’s red lips, and she instinctively began to lean in, only to be interrupted by the ringing of a phone on the nearby table.
Yu Kunian froze, and Song Wenzhi turned her head. The words she had just intended to say were naturally swallowed back. She looked toward the table. “Your phone.”
Having the atmosphere ruined brought a flicker of dissatisfaction to Yu Kunian’s eyes, but she still turned to pick up the phone. “What is it?”
The caller was her Beta assistant, reporting on the power outage at the company. The blackout had been sudden. Although the backup power had kicked in quickly, some precision instruments and finished products in the research lab couldn’t withstand such a disruption. Losses were inevitable, which was within Yu Kunian’s expectations.
However, the assistant found the outage strange. The current investigation only showed a malfunction caused by a technician’s error. But the assistant, through rigorous analysis, suspected that the technician had been bribed by a competitor. Since word of Zhaoming Biotech’s upcoming new product had spread through the industry, it was highly likely a rival company was playing dirty.
Yu Kunian fell silent for a moment. Her gaze slowly shifted toward the door of the research lab, her thoughts unreadable. It wasn’t until the assistant tentatively called her name again that she spoke:
“There’s no evidence, so don’t bother investigating. Have the employee who made the mistake go to the finance department for their final paycheck. They’re fired.”
The assistant was stunned and, after a moment’s hesitation, said, “President Yu, we can ask for police assistance. If there was malicious competition, there will be records left behind.”
Yu Kunian rejected the idea without hesitation. “No need. Do as I say.”
Though puzzled, the assistant complied and then asked if she had time to inspect the damage in several research labs.
Yu Kunian: “Mm, in five minutes.”
After hanging up, Yu Kunian’s expression wasn’t as bright as before, but she adjusted it before turning around. When she looked at Song Wenzhi, she was back to her gentle self. Song Wenzhi had naturally overheard some of the conversation. She reached out and caught Yu Kunian’s finger. “Go ahead and get to your work.”
“I’ll have someone accompany you to the hospital,” Yu Kunian nodded, but then she remembered Song Wenzhi’s frequent bouts of losing control over her pheromones and added.
Song Wenzhi instinctively refused. “I have a friend who’s a doctor. I can just ask her later. No need to go to the hospital.”
In Yu Kunian’s mind, Xia Weichi had already become the image of someone irresponsible and unprofessional. Hearing Song Wenzhi say this, the Alpha frowned and asked skeptically, “Is she reliable?”
Song Wenzhi stood up and said with a light laugh, “At least she’s an expert.”
Yu Kunian’s brow tightened further. She knew Song Wenzhi didn’t have feelings for Xia Weichi, but she felt a strange, inexplicable displeasure.
Perhaps it was because of the temporary mark, but her possessiveness was truly acting up. Yu Kunian suppressed her thoughts and replied, “I’ll take you to the lounge first. I won’t be long. By the time you’re done talking to the doctor, my business should be mostly handled. I still have to receive tutoring from Teacher Song today.”
Song Wenzhi: “Okay.”
The CEO’s lounge was private and wouldn’t be disturbed by other employees. Song Wenzhi still carried the scent of Yu Kunian’s pheromones, so staying here was the best option. Yu Kunian brought her some sweets and fruit, and fearing she might be bored, found several books and magazines for her. After settling her in, she left.
Song Wenzhi sat on the sofa. She looked at the suppressant in her hand, originally intending to call Xia Weichi in a bit, but unexpectedly, Xia Weichi called her first.
After answering, Xia Weichi asked about her recent physical condition. Song Wenzhi answered truthfully: “Two instances of losing control, and several sudden pheromone leaks.”
Xia Weichi was surprised by the frequency, her tone dropping slightly. “Xiao Zhi, it hasn’t been that long since the last time you lost control. Has it happened again recently?”
Song Wenzhi: “Mm, just now.”
Xia Weichi: “Why has the frequency of losing control gone up again… weren’t things a bit more stable these past two months? Xiao Zhi, did something happen that forced you to lose control?”
Song Wenzhi thought for a moment, unsure of how to explain. “A little accident.”
Xia Weichi sighed. “It seems you’ve quickly developed an immunity to the new suppressant again.” She couldn’t help but worry. “Xiao Zhi, the current suppressant is at the maximum level your body can handle. You can’t use anything stronger, and your gland wouldn’t be able to take it anyway.”
Therefore, the best solution was to find an Alpha.
Xia Weichi and Song Wenzhi both understood this implicitly, but Xia Weichi also knew that Song Wenzhi refused to accept her pheromones. Even if she were willing to be a mere “tool” to provide pheromones, Song Wenzhi wouldn’t agree. Otherwise, Xia Weichi wouldn’t have let Song Wenzhi continue using harmful suppressants.
Song Wenzhi pursed her lips, unconsciously stroking the corner of a page in the book she held. After Xia Weichi finished speaking, she slowly said, “Weichi, the resolution to my last loss of control wasn’t entirely due to the suppressant. There were also an Alpha’s soothing pheromones. And this time, I didn’t use a suppressant at all.”
Before Song Wenzhi could finish, Xia Weichi had already guessed. She asked, “Which Alpha? Xiao Zhi, did you let her give you a temporary mark?”
Xia Weichi didn’t realize that her own tone was filled with unbelievable agitation.
Song Wenzhi said, “Yes. I like her, and I allowed it.”
Xia Weichi forced herself to calm down. “Who is she?”
“Yu Kunian,” Song Wenzhi introduced her to Xia Weichi. “We are already together.”
“Xiao Zhi, is this a decision you’ve thought through carefully? For you, you can only accept one person’s pheromones, one Alpha’s temporary mark. Have you thought about what happens if she isn’t serious about you? What if this Alpha named Yu Kunian is just a passing traveler?”
Song Wenzhi quickly countered her: “She won’t be. She won’t. I believe in her.”
“Fine, I’ll assume she won’t.” Xia Weichi sighed again, then asked, “Then does she know about your condition?”
Song Wenzhi was silent for a moment. “I haven’t told her yet.”
Xia Weichi’s voice sounded slightly distorted through the receiver. “If you haven’t told her, that means you have no way of guaranteeing that she—”
Song Wenzhi’s fingertips gripping the book turned white. She lowered her eyes, her voice very soft: “No, it’s my problem.”
It was a question she had never dared to think about deeply, one she had buried in her heart in an attempt to escape. Song Wenzhi didn’t want to face it; she was afraid of the outcome. She believed Yu Kunian was serious, but she couldn’t help comparing her own situation with Yu Kunian’s.
Not a good match, Song Wenzhi evaluated herself and Yu Kunian.
There was no “equality of status,” and she was still hiding her physical condition. She was afraid that if she spoke out, they would be even less of a match.
The Omega felt she was being wishful; since they liked each other, other aspects could be ignored. But despite thinking this way, the matter remained an indelible thorn in her heart.
Xia Weichi seemed to choke on those words. Then, her tone took on a hint of helplessness. “Xiao Zhi, I’ll find a chance to return to Lihua City early.” She wanted to see for herself exactly what kind of magic this Alpha Song Wenzhi spoke of possessed.
