The Pursuit of Love After Divorcing My Cold Omega - Chapter 27
“A temporary marking… will there be a problem?”
The strength in the hand holding her palm tightened slightly. Yu Kunian’s voice acted like a sedative, instantly calming Song Wenzhi’s heart: “Zhizhi, it’s okay. I’m here.”
Song Wenzhi’s breath hitched. She had subconsciously gripped Yu Kunian’s hand just now, her fingertips unwittingly sinking into the soft palm. With the scent of her own pheromones lingering at the tip of her nose, the Omega quickly withdrew her hand and whispered in the pitch darkness: “Sorry, I lost my composure a bit.”
Yu Kunian was only concerned about her: “Are you okay? Zhizhi, be careful not to bump into anything. Sit properly.” In the blur of the dark, the Alpha brushed against Song Wenzhi’s slender waist, but the warmth felt through the dress seemed to scald Yu Kunian’s hand, causing the Alpha to immediately retract her fingers.
Song Wenzhi didn’t move. She shook her head and said, “Mm, I’m sitting.”
The insulation of the research lab was not bad; with the lights out, it was truly impossible to see anything. Yu Kunian felt around for her phone placed nearby, her other hand tightly clutching Song Wenzhi, fearing the Omega might have an accident.
However, there were many instruments on the table. The Alpha inevitably slipped; the precision instruments were sensitive, and some would automatically emit a non-piercing alert sound upon the slightest touch.
Perhaps because the light had vanished and she was merged with the darkness, her sense of hearing became exceptionally sharp. Every sound from the instruments seemed to ring clearly beside Song Wenzhi’s ear. At that moment, Song Wenzhi’s thoughts froze. A piercing chill spread through her body; her entire being stiffened for a second, and then, as if by reflex, she gripped Yu Kunian’s hand tightly again.
The Omega’s breathing suddenly became rapid, sounding particularly frantic alongside those abrupt noises. Song Wenzhi suddenly felt she couldn’t catch her breath. She opened her mouth but made no sound; her mind went blank, and a sense of trance completely buried her.
It felt as if every second was being stretched out. Song Wenzhi felt surrounded by that sound, filled with a mysterious sharpness that rushed into her ears, nearly piercing her eardrums. The Omega could no longer remain calm. Her hand gripped Yu Kunian’s wrist with an extreme, abnormal strength that the Alpha could not break free from.
The scent of coconut candy seemed to uncontrollably occupy the research lab, even stronger than the last time in Yin City.
“Yu…” Song Wenzhi’s voice was so small it was almost inaudible, but her reaction had already alerted Yu Kunian that something was wrong.
Before Yu Kunian could speak, Song Wenzhi’s arm suddenly began to tremble. Without warning, she fell backward, looking as though she had fainted from exhaustion. But the Omega’s consciousness was still returning; she felt herself falling straight down, pulling Yu Kunian with her. Following a “thud,” the two of them tumbled off their chairs together.
The Alpha reacted quickly. She swiftly shielded the back of the Omega’s head with her hand as they hit the ground. Pain arrived faster than sound; the back of her hand felt icy and sharp with stinging pain.
Yu Kunian didn’t care about that. She leaned closer to Song Wenzhi, her voice tinged with uncontrollable panic: “Zhizhi? What’s wrong? Can you speak?”
Song Wenzhi’s gasps paused occasionally. Both of them lay disheveled on the floor, having bumped into tables and chairs to varying degrees. The Omega’s eyes were half-closed. She felt the warmth of the palm that hadn’t let go yet. Her racing heart pounded in her ears like a heavy hammer, barely masking the ordinary yet terrifying sound from before.
“…Yu Kunian.” Song Wenzhi finally spoke again. Her eyelashes fluttered, and hearing her own voice sounding hoarse, she propped herself up and wrapped her arms around Yu Kunian’s waist in the dark.
Burying her cheek in the crook of Yu Kunian’s neck, the remnants of fear still lingered. Song Wenzhi hadn’t stopped trembling. She breathed shakily and repeated once more: “Yu Kunian.”
As soon as she finished speaking, a warm and reliable embrace pulled her in tightly. The Alpha’s voice was ordinary, yet exceptionally beautiful to hear.
“Mm, Zhizhi, it’s okay. Don’t be afraid. I won’t let anything happen to you.”
Yu Kunian’s embrace was too warm, making one crave it. She wanted to be held by Yu Kunian just like this; it could sweep away all her fears.
Yu Kunian’s hand stroked Song Wenzhi’s back. She could detect Song Wenzhi’s frightened state. A layer of cold sweat had broken out on the Omega’s neck, and her fingertips were somewhat chilly. Enveloped by the Omega’s pheromones, Yu Kunian forcibly suppressed her own burgeoning urge to lose control. Thinking carefully, it seemed the accidental sound just now had frightened Song Wenzhi, though she didn’t know why.
So, the Alpha’s hand gently loosened and then lifted, slowly touching Song Wenzhi’s cheek, then her earlobe, and finally, both hands firmly cupped the Omega’s ears, her palms curved to block out some of the noise.
At that moment, Song Wenzhi instinctively lifted her head. Two words from Yu Kunian drifted fuzzily into her ears: “Don’t be afraid.”
In truth, she wasn’t as scared as she was a moment ago. It was only because the sudden power outage combined with that abrupt noise had triggered a bad memory, causing her to have a violent reaction unconsciously. Now that her senses were returning, she felt much better, though the stirred-up emotions remained. Song Wenzhi had begun to gradually calm down.
But now, Song Wenzhi’s emotions fluctuated again.
Unlike the thunder-like terror from before, at this moment, Song Wenzhi felt her mood ripple like lake water. Warmth rippled across the surface, wrapping her whole body gently.
The next second, the research lab lit up again. The power had been restored.
Both of them squinted instinctively. When they opened their eyes again, they were looking directly at each other, their gazes melting into one another.
The Omega was still in Yu Kunian’s arms. Their breaths intertwined. Neither spoke immediately; they just looked at each other quietly with soft, deep-set eyes. It was unclear whose heart skipped a beat, but soon it began to race like a startled deer. The surrounding air seemed to rise in temperature.
The Alpha, hearing that there were no other sounds around them, finally loosened her hands. After confirming Song Wenzhi’s condition, she finally breathed a sigh of relief.
Then, Yu Kunian lowered her eyes and once again pulled Song Wenzhi into an embrace. The Alpha’s body was already covered in the Omega’s pheromones. Yu Kunian didn’t know how much willpower it took to stop herself from tearing off her scent-blocking patch or letting even a fraction of her own pheromones leak out.
Yu Kunian said: “It’s okay now.”
Song Wenzhi shed her previous franticness. She quietly lifted her arms to hold Yu Kunian back. Closing her eyes, she said: “Yu Kunian.”
“What is it? Are you hurt anywhere?”
“Thank you.”
Hearing Song Wenzhi say this, Yu Kunian was startled for a moment before saying: “Zhizhi, you never need to be polite with me.”
Song Wenzhi nodded. She only then realized that her pheromones were still leaking out continuously and her gland was throbbing with a dull pain. She reached out to get her bag but her legs were still a bit weak, so she could only lean on Yu Kunian to stand up. Fortunately, the fall just now wasn’t too serious, resulting only in some minor bruises. Song Wenzhi turned to take out a tube of inhibitor from her bag. She took a step back but was pulled back by Yu Kunian.
“It hasn’t been long since the last time you used an inhibitor. You cannot use inhibitors frequently in such a short period.”
Yu Kunian pinched the other end of the inhibitor box. “Zhizhi, this will be very harmful to your body.”
Song Wenzhi said: “I can’t control my pheromones.”
Yu Kunian frowned slightly, appearing somewhat puzzled. Having pheromones go out of control twice within a month was truly abnormal, especially after having used an inhibitor the last time.
Although Yu Kunian was not a professional doctor, she knew very well that for an Omega who had used an inhibitor, it at least wouldn’t lose its effect within such a short interval and trigger a secondary loss of control. If Song Wenzhi’s body hadn’t already developed some degree of immunity to the inhibitor, this situation wouldn’t have occurred.
Yu Kunian turned to pick up her phone. “Your physical health state is a bit off. Zhizhi, I’m calling a doctor.”
Song Wenzhi panicked slightly and snatched the phone away. “No need.”
Yu Kunian looked at her. “Zhizhi, physical health is very important.” Using inhibitors so frequently causes irreversible damage to the gland; she knew this all too well.
Song Wenzhi didn’t dare look into her eyes and didn’t know how to fabricate a lie, so she could only turn her head away. Only after a long while did she say: “I won’t use it. No need to find a doctor.”
Yu Kunian’s brow furrowed deeper. “Your pheromones are out of control; you need to see a doctor even more.”
Song Wenzhi raised her hand to cover her gland, which was still continuously releasing pheromones. She kept insisting it wasn’t necessary. Yu Kunian couldn’t win against her, and even if she released soothing pheromones, it couldn’t fundamentally solve the problem. Song Wenzhi’s current state didn’t look like something that could be ended simply with soothing, and Yu Kunian felt she was about to lose her ability to resist the persistent coconut candy scent.
It was very difficult for an Alpha not to be induced into losing control as well when faced with an Omega’s uncontrolled pheromones, especially when their compatibility was high.
The mint scent could no longer be fully contained by the scent-blocking patch. Song Wenzhi acutely sensed the Alpha’s induced pheromones.
Instinct surpassed reason at that moment.
Song Wenzhi moved closer to Yu Kunian. They resumed their embrace. The Omega tightly hugged Yu Kunian’s neck, trying to capture more of the mint scent.
Yu Kunian whispered: “Zhizhi—”
She couldn’t finish her sentence because Song Wenzhi’s fingertips touched her scent-blocking patch.
Yu Kunian trembled almost instantly, as if an electric current had passed through her heart. She lowered her head and sniffed the Omega’s pheromones. The very sweet coconut candy was addictive, so she hurriedly turned her head away.
The Alpha exhaled. Having no other choice, she compromised: “Zhizhi, after you use the inhibitor, I’ll take you to the hospital for a check-up.”
But the inhibitor box in her hand was instead tossed onto the table by Song Wenzhi. The Omega’s voice was very soft, like a feather brushing against the heart: “Yu Kunian, I want your pheromones.”
It was that “want” again.
Yu Kunian couldn’t refuse Song Wenzhi’s wants.
So, she let Song Wenzhi remove her scent-blocking patch.
The mint scent wasn’t very concentrated at first, but it quickly spread like a conquest, intermingling and entangling with the coconut candy. Song Wenzhi liked Yu Kunian’s mint scent; it made her clear-headed yet naturally immersed in it.
Without Song Wenzhi’s consent, Yu Kunian would never actively release her pheromones. Her pheromones were too aggressive and had such high compatibility with Song Wenzhi’s that they easily influenced each other.
Yu Kunian leaned down slightly to get close to Song Wenzhi. After stabilizing Song Wenzhi’s emotions with soothing pheromones, she said: “Zhizhi, you shouldn’t hide your illness from the doctor.”
Song Wenzhi looked at her, her brows tinged with a rare touch of dissatisfaction. The Omega seemed to find Yu Kunian too talkative, so she raised her hand and covered the Alpha’s lips. Her cool lips pressed against her palm. Yu Kunian froze, her eyes lowering slightly to confirm Song Wenzhi’s state.
The Omega wasn’t overly affected by the pheromones; at least Song Wenzhi was conscious now. Yu Kunian sighed. She hugged Song Wenzhi and whispered softly in her ear: “Zhizhi, let me give you the inhibitor, okay?”
Yu Kunian was nearly unable to withstand the coconut candy scent in the room. Pheromones at such a high concentration were tempting her every second. Unexpectedly, after she finished speaking, Song Wenzhi’s hand pressed against her. The Omega’s breath brushed past the Alpha’s earlobe. Song Wenzhi thought for a moment and spoke:
“You said using inhibitors is bad for the body. What about a marking?”
Yu Kunian was stunned.
But Song Wenzhi was unusually determined. Her words were well-considered; after analyzing her current situation, the Omega knew she truly couldn’t rely on inhibitors anymore.
Before, it was a desperate measure. Xia Weichi had also informed her that long-term use of inhibitors would lead to inevitable immunity. The best way was to find an Alpha and, through the process of adapting to soothing pheromones and temporary markings, stop depending on the medication.
Perhaps from the last time she had asked for Yu Kunian’s pheromones, Song Wenzhi had already made her preparations.
She trusted Yu Kunian and had already decided on her. The person in front of her would be her lifelong Alpha; this was an unchangeable fact. Therefore, there was nothing to worry about. Song Wenzhi was willing to accept Yu Kunian’s pheromones and the Alpha’s marking.
Thus, Song Wenzhi followed up by asking for the Alpha’s opinion:
“A temporary marking, Yu Kunian… will there be a problem with that?”
