The Pursuit of Love After Divorcing My Cold Omega - Chapter 25
“Do you want to hold my hand, Yu Kunian?”
Yu Kunian stopped in front of her, the tips of her raised brows tinged with a rare, gentle smile. Under Song Wenzhi’s gaze, she brought out the wrapped bouquet she had been hiding behind her back and tucked it into Song Wenzhi’s hands.
The Omega’s surprise surfaced from the depths of her eyes. Song Wenzhi looked down at the flowers in her hands; among the prominent and beautiful lisianthus, there were a few vibrant red roses interspersed, just as heart-stirring as Yu Kunian herself. Song Wenzhi lifted her fingertip and lightly touched the petals of a lisianthus. The slightly cool sensation made her pause for a moment before she looked up and crashed into Yu Kunian’s gaze.
Unexpected flowers, and a burning gaze.
It wasn’t that Song Wenzhi had never received flowers before, but at this moment, this very second, she loved this bouquet.
“To welcome your back,” Yu Kunian said. “Welcome home, Zhizhi.”
People came and went in the station amidst constant noise, but Song Wenzhi only heard those words. She didn’t make a sound; she just stared at Yu Kunian. After a moment, she smiled softly.
Someone was waiting for her return; someone cared about her return, even if she had haphazardly disrupted the original plans. And this “someone” was the Alpha she liked.
An Omega’s mood could become joyful because of a bouquet or a sentence; an Alpha, upon seeing the Omega’s smile, felt that all the waiting was worthwhile.
Yu Kunian leaned toward her slightly and asked, “Have you eaten?”
Song Wenzhi shook her head. “I was planning to eat after getting back.”
Yu Kunian had expected this. She arched an eyebrow and said, “Were you planning to just grab something random for dinner after getting back to school?”
Having been found out, Song Wenzhi instinctively looked away, only to hear Yu Kunian say, “I haven’t eaten either. Why don’t you take me along? Let’s not just settle for something random, okay?”
It was hard to tell if what Yu Kunian said was true or false, but for the sake of the flowers, Song Wenzhi looked down and said, “Okay.”
“Let’s go.” Yu Kunian’s lips curved further as she naturally took over the suitcase. “Where do you want to eat?”
It was already getting late, so it wasn’t suitable for a lavish meal. Song Wenzhi felt she probably just needed to fill her stomach, so she didn’t consider a restaurant. Ultimately, she decided to buy some instant food at a 24-hour convenience store near Lihua University.
Song Wenzhi was worried Yu Kunian wouldn’t be used to it, but the Alpha didn’t care. No matter what they ate, as long as it was with Song Wenzhi, it was good.
Sitting inside the convenience store, the two of them were very close. Yu Kunian handed the chopsticks to Song Wenzhi while asking, “Is this enough? Do you want to buy more?”
Song Wenzhi shook her head. “I’m not particularly hungry; I ate some bread before getting on the train.”
Yu Kunian unscrewed a bottle of grape juice and handed it to her. “Alright.”
Song Wenzhi took it. She had just taken a sip when she saw Yu Kunian picking out all the mushrooms from the meal in front of her. The meat from Yu Kunian’s meal was entirely swapped for the mushrooms. The Omega’s hand holding the grape juice paused. Her gaze followed those chopsticks until the Alpha “accomplished the task.” Only then did she put her hand down and purse her lips.
Whether it was the tartness of the grapes surging to the tip of her tongue or something else, Song Wenzhi’s gaze trembled slightly. She turned to look at Yu Kunian, who didn’t notice her gaze but happened to speak: “The chopsticks are unused. I remember you don’t eat mushrooms, so I picked them out for you. You can eat with peace of mind now.”
“Actually, you didn’t have to…” Song Wenzhi heard herself speak, but she didn’t finish. It was just that for a moment, she was surprised Yu Kunian still remembered her dietary dislikes. The way Yu Kunian casually picked out the food she disliked was something so ordinary that it made Song Wenzhi feel dazed.
Under the dark sky, the convenience store was exceptionally bright. The glass in front of them reflected their figures—ordinary yet unexpected. Only the two of them were eating there. Song Wenzhi had never imagined she would sit side-by-side with Yu Kunian like this.
She had thought Yu Kunian was out of reach. But Yu Kunian was right here, right by her side.
The person she once thought she’d never have the chance to sit beside was now at her side, within reach. It was as if all the distance had vanished. Song Wenzhi looked at the Yu Kunian before her; she was real, and she was even integrating into and adapting to her life.
Song Wenzhi had never thought Yu Kunian would move toward her, but when this day finally came, she was joyful and felt lucky countless times over.
Beside her hand was that unexpected bouquet. Song Wenzhi thought to herself that her longing today had exceeded all expectations.
So, Song Wenzhi took back her previous words and finally said, “Thank you.”
Yu Kunian smiled, propping her chin on her hand as she looked at her. “Zhizhi, I am very happy today because I got to see you.”
The words “I miss you” were clearly visible in the Alpha’s eyes. Song Wenzhi didn’t turn her head; she lowered it to eat, but her gaze secretly drifted upward, watching Yu Kunian’s reflection in the glass window.
Yu Kunian didn’t require a response from Song Wenzhi. She simply wanted to express her emotions, because every mood of Song Wenzhi’s was constantly tugging at her.
After speaking, Yu Kunian also began to eat. To her surprise, Song Wenzhi stopped her chopsticks and asked softly, “Do you want to hold my hand, Yu Kunian?”
The voice was a bit small, but Yu Kunian heard it clearly. The tips of Song Wenzhi’s ears turned slightly red. Yu Kunian snapped her head up because of those words, forgetting to swallow the food in her mouth. The Alpha’s eyes widened slightly, and it felt as if an electric current had surged through her heart. Her expression became harder to control, and her breathing faltered for a second.
It was holding hands, but it wasn’t just holding hands.
Yu Kunian stared fixedly at Song Wenzhi. After a moment, she snapped back to reality, fearing Song Wenzhi would regret it, and hurriedly said, “I want to hold hands. Is it okay?”
The Alpha’s hand was already prepared to reach out, but the Omega said, “We’ll hold hands after we leave the convenience store.”
Yu Kunian nodded. “Okay.” She immediately pulled her hand back to continue eating, for the first time wanting a meal with Song Wenzhi to end quickly.
Song Wenzhi maintained her usual eating pace, but Yu Kunian unconsciously ate much faster. After finishing, her gaze frequently drifted toward Song Wenzhi. The Omega appeared very calm, seemingly unaffected by Yu Kunian, unhurriedly drinking more than half of the grape juice before the meal finally concluded.
Yu Kunian looked at Song Wenzhi’s still-red ears and her instinctively evasive gaze, and couldn’t help but chuckle. Clearly, she was nervous, yet it didn’t show on her face at all; she finally knew how to distinguish some of Song Wenzhi’s emotions.
When it was time to get up, Yu Kunian was no longer in a hurry. She cleared the trash from the table with Song Wenzhi, and as she watched Song Wenzhi turn back to pick up the flowers, her smile deepened.
The Alpha stepped out of the convenience store first, holding the door for the Omega. She stopped in place and reached out her hand toward Song Wenzhi once more. Before Song Wenzhi even walked out, she saw Yu Kunian with a faint smile, her amber eyes seemingly irresistible.
The wind outside the shop blew their hair into a mess, and the corners of Yu Kunian’s clothes fluttered as well. Song Wenzhi was wearing a navy-blue plaid maxi dress today; the hem of the dress collided with the hem of the windbreaker. It was unknown whose heart skipped a beat because of it. Song Wenzhi lowered her eyes slightly, her gaze falling on Yu Kunian’s palm. Then, the Omega stepped over the threshold, and the moment she stepped out of the store, a hand covered the Alpha’s palm.
One palm was slightly cool; the other fingertip was warm.
Yu Kunian tightly gripped Song Wenzhi’s hand. Her smile blossomed, and her eyes curved as she said, “Zhizhi.”
Song Wenzhi squeezed back. She gave a soft “Mm” and stood beside Yu Kunian. The convenience store door closed gently. Yu Kunian felt her palm heating up; even the cold night wind couldn’t lower the temperature.
Since it wasn’t far from the staff apartments, Song Wenzhi didn’t let Yu Kunian drive. The two of them walked hand-in-hand toward the apartments.
For the first time, Yu Kunian felt the road outside the staff apartments was a bit too short. She hadn’t had enough of holding hands, yet they had already reached the building. Song Wenzhi prepared to let go to take the suitcase Yu Kunian was pulling, but she didn’t expect Yu Kunian to grip even tighter. The Omega looked over in confusion, only to find the Alpha looking serious as she asked:
“Zhizhi, have you given me the answer?”
As she spoke, Yu Kunian lifted their joined hands. Regarding the request for a certain status from Yu Kunian, the Alpha wanted confirmation.
Song Wenzhi didn’t speak immediately. Instead, she allowed Yu Kunian to lean in a few inches closer. With a flush of crimson on her cheeks, she asked back, “What do you think?”
Yu Kunian said, “We are together, right?”
A smile rose on Song Wenzhi’s face, her eyes as bright as a galaxy. Yu Kunian fell into Song Wenzhi’s gaze, then heard the Omega call her name:
“Yu Kunian.”
“Mm.”
“Today is the first day of our relationship.”
Song Wenzhi spoke those words very solemnly. The Omega took a half-step closer to Yu Kunian and added, “Thank you for the flowers, my Alpha.”
Yu Kunian didn’t know how to describe her feelings at this moment. She felt as if brilliant fireworks were exploding in her heart. Every word Song Wenzhi said was so sincere that it inadvertently tugged at her heartstrings, making it impossible not to be moved.
Yu Kunian raised their joined hands to her lips again. Her gaze met Song Wenzhi’s. Fearing it might be inappropriate, the Alpha’s thin lips only pressed against her own knuckles. Within the bounds of propriety, she revealed her emotions in this way.
Today was a special day. Forever special.
Song Wenzhi’s reply was a perfect answer, letting Yu Kunian feel completely at ease. The two burning hands finally separated. Yu Kunian nodded and said, “Yes, I am your Alpha.”
Song Wenzhi’s fingertips curled because of her actions. Even though Yu Kunian hadn’t actually touched her, the temperature of her fingers felt even more scorching than if she had kissed her knuckles. Song Wenzhi’s unavoidable shyness turned her ears deep red, but her heart leaped with joy, and her voice carried a hint of a smile she couldn’t hide:
“See you tomorrow, Yu Kunian.”
Last time downstairs, it had been the same “See you tomorrow,” but the situation was entirely different today. This time, Yu Kunian responded with a smile and then watched Song Wenzhi go upstairs. She waved her hand, the curve of her lips staying up for a long time.
She waited until she saw the balcony light on the eighth floor turn on. Song Wenzhi stood by the window and sent a message to Yu Kunian, asking why she was still standing downstairs.
Yu Kunian replied with a voice message: “Because I knew you would come to the balcony to look. Zhizhi, goodnight.”
Only after saying that did Yu Kunian withdraw her gaze from the eighth floor and turn to leave. Song Wenzhi didn’t go back inside immediately either; she stayed for a while. It was only after Yu Kunian’s figure disappeared that she looked at the chat box and replied to Yu Kunian with the word “Goodnight.”
Song Wenzhi knew she would definitely sleep well today, because she and Yu Kunian were together. Something she had once never dared to imagine had actually happened. Her palm still held lingering warmth; everything was so real.
