The Pursuit of Love After Divorcing My Cold Omega - Chapter 24
Can We Date, Zhizhi?
Yu Kunian looked down at her hand, then looked up at Song Wenzhi. After a moment of thought, she finally regained her composure and let out a light laugh. “I didn’t manage to leave.” Having said that, she raised her hand and shook it slightly, the meaning obvious; even the finger marks representing “evidence” were still there.
Song Wenzhi was choked up. She had absolutely no idea why she had grabbed Yu Kunian’s hand—after all, who can account for things done in a deep sleep? However, Yu Kunian clearly didn’t intend to discuss it further, likely due to the discomfort of last night’s sleep. She stood up, checked the time on her phone, and then spoke again: “Teacher Song, do you still feel any physical discomfort?”
Song Wenzhi shook her head. Yu Kunian felt relieved and said, “It’s still early. You can rest a bit longer. I’m heading back.”
As Yu Kunian spoke, her expression was weary. Song Wenzhi noticed the dark circles under her eyes and the exhaustion filling her gaze. An indescribable feeling welled up within her. Song Wenzhi’s gaze followed Yu Kunian; as the Alpha raised a hand to rub her neck, the Omega suddenly spoke: “Yu Kunian, I…”
Yu Kunian turned back, still smiling as she faced her, seemingly understanding her emotions. As Song Wenzhi hesitated, she explained, “I originally intended to stay with you a bit longer before leaving last night, but I didn’t expect to fall asleep first. Teacher Song, it wasn’t entirely your fault.”
“Actually, you could have woken me up to let go.” Song Wenzhi felt this was a very feasible method, yet Yu Kunian had simply let her hold onto her hand like that.
Hearing this, Yu Kunian walked a few steps closer, looking down to meet her eyes, and said without concealment: “I had selfish motives.”
As for what those selfish motives were, there was no need to ask; they both knew in their hearts.
The Omega was stunned for a moment and then instinctively looked away. Song Wenzhi didn’t speak, but her cheeks warmed slightly.
After an unexpected moment, Yu Kunian suddenly leaned down toward her. Her warm fingertips brushed almost imperceptibly against Song Wenzhi’s forehead as the Alpha tucked a stray lock of hair behind the Omega’s ear.
Song Wenzhi turned her gaze back. She and Yu Kunian were inches apart, their breaths intertwining. The Alpha’s gaze seemed to envelop her, her curved eyes unable to hide a hint of mischievous success. Song Wenzhi heard Yu Kunian ask softly, “Teacher Song, the next time we meet, can I still hold your hand?”
Such an overstepping inquiry was somehow delivered with a sincere plea. The warmth on her forehead gradually dissipated, yet Yu Kunian remained before her, patiently waiting for an answer. So, Song Wenzhi began to seriously consider the question. She thought: Why hold hands? and—In what capacity would we hold hands?
Yu Kunian, of course, could think of this as well, but she deliberately paused her words, observing Song Wenzhi’s reaction. It wasn’t until Song Wenzhi truly fell into deep thought that Yu Kunian couldn’t help but chuckle, adding: “In a different capacity.”
After Yu Kunian finished speaking, Song Wenzhi jerked her head up.
When their eyes met, the Alpha’s expression was serious, her amber eyes reflecting Song Wenzhi’s face. Song Wenzhi’s breathing faltered for a second.
Yu Kunian spoke again: “Teacher Song, let’s date—” The Alpha’s tone became solemn. She had thought of many things to say, but in the end, she only spoke this sentence. And she seemed afraid of being rejected, so the latter half of the sentence softened: “Is that okay, Zhizhi?”
Zhizhi.
She wanted to call the Omega in front of her that.
Such intimacy brought Yu Kunian involuntary joy. She wanted to use this method of proximity to gain Song Wenzhi’s consent. This “dating” proposal had indeed exceeded Yu Kunian’s original plan, but at that moment, she felt the timing was just right.
Holding hands was a reason, and also an opportunity.
She asked Song Wenzhi for the next hand-holding, and suddenly realized she could push her luck.
Song Wenzhi was not good at taking the initiative, so it was only fitting for Yu Kunian to guide things. The Alpha knew she had already been accepted by the Omega, so she was striking while the iron was hot to change her status.
Looking at the seemingly dazed Omega, Yu Kunian couldn’t help but smile. She chose to retreat to advance, pulling back to create distance between them and standing up straight. She said, “My business trip is over; I’m heading back to Lihua City at noon today. How about you give me an answer after your exchange meeting is over and you return, Zhizhi?”
Yu Kunian enunciated those last two words very clearly. Her eyes crinkled with a smile, and her mood seemed excellent, as if most of her previous fatigue had vanished—as if the name “Zhizhi” possessed a special magic.
After those two intimate addresses, Song Wenzhi finally seemed to snap out of it. Her heartbeat was completely uncontrollable; looking at Yu Kunian now, she only felt her heart was in total chaos.
Her thoughts became noisy in that instant. Yu Kunian’s smile dominated everything, nearly making her lose her reason. Song Wenzhi took a few deep breaths before nodding with feigned composure: “I will think about it carefully.”
Yu Kunian said, “Rest a bit more.” With that, she turned and left.
Song Wenzhi watched the spot where Yu Kunian’s figure had disappeared, pressing her hand against her burning cheek. She thought to herself: How can I rest now? Yu Kunian’s words seemed to echo continuously in her ears, making it impossible for her to calm down.
In truth, the answer was obvious, but at that moment, Song Wenzhi didn’t know why she hadn’t said it aloud. Perhaps subconsciously, she felt she truly did need time to think. But no one could be one hundred percent calm at a time like this—at least, Song Wenzhi felt she couldn’t be.
She liked Yu Kunian; that was an unchangeable fact.
Changing their status, taking a step further—Song Wenzhi could not refuse.
The Omega lifted her eyes to look at the sunlight filtering through the curtains. A moment later, her gaze shifted down to her hand. Her palm still seemed to hold the Alpha’s residual warmth. Song Wenzhi’s fingertips curled slightly, and her breathing quickened again.
She looked forward to their next meeting with a bit more impatience than before.
After returning to Lihua City, Yu Kunian was very satisfied that she no longer received calls from those so-called marriage alliance candidates. Even Yu Dai didn’t have time to look for her. Yu Kunian stood by her office window, unable to hide the smile in her eyes, while Jiang Qiu gloated on the phone.
Yu Dai’s recommendation letter had been intercepted midway. The Oversight Committee had quickly formed an investigation team to conduct a thorough audit of the corporate operations and finances of the family Yu Dai had chosen for the alliance. The intervention of the Oversight Committee meant that their so-called listing qualifications had effectively slipped away with over 80% probability. Yu Dai naturally learned of this news.
A total waste of effort; the people he designed to annex were being crushed.
Then came the falling out of those in power.
Yu Kunian’s chips weren’t just that illegitimate child; she had other leverage over their company. After all, she wanted to ensure the opponent’s total failure. This kind of fatal, one-hit strike was always Yu Kunian’s style.
Now Yu Dai and those people must have been caught off guard. The Oversight Committee’s procedures moved quickly, and news within the circles spread fast; this was already a massive explosive news story. Yu Kunian watched the fire from the other side, in high spirits, and sent a message to Yu Dai:
Your taste in people is truly poor.
The message went unreplied for a long time, and Yu Kunian’s smile widened. Now, those people were no longer qualified to marry into her family, and Yu Dai would likely be tied up with official business for some time because of this. Yu Kunian had won herself some rare leisure time.
Jiang Qiu really couldn’t stop laughing. Looking at the news on various platforms, she said cheerfully, “These articles were written so fast. It’s just a pity that the leaks aren’t as eye-catching as the content I dug up. Kunian, have you notified Cheng Lu? With such a big change, she needs to prepare early to take over the company.”
“Don’t worry, her news is even faster than the headlines.”
“I wonder if that Wall Street elite has forgotten us old friends. No contact for so many years, just burying her head in her career.”
Yu Kunian didn’t care much about that. “We weren’t that close to begin with.”
Jiang Qiu protested, “How were we not close? Back then, we intentionally dragged her out to play and made up all sorts of lies just to help her out financially. You think she couldn’t tell?”
At that, Yu Kunian vaguely recalled those past events and laughed. “If she saw through it, she saw through it. Anyway, the fact that she’s willing to make a deal with me now shows she hasn’t forgotten. But we’ve grown distant, probably because she doesn’t really want to remember the past.”
Jiang Qiu said, “I wonder how her Omega-aversion is doing. I’m going abroad next week, so I’ll go see her.” Saying this, Jiang Qiu sighed. “But can that condition of hers really not be cured? Since she was little, no Omega has dared to get near her.”
“Why are you going abroad?” Yu Kunian asked. “She doesn’t seem like the type to date an Omega anyway. Finding a Beta to marry would be just fine.”
Jiang Qiu said, “My dear mother wants me to meet my fiancée. We’re to get familiar with each other first and discuss where the engagement banquet should be held. While I’m at it, I’ll see if the famous CEO Cheng has found a Beta girlfriend.”
Yu Kunian sat back at her desk and placed her phone on the table. “The families of you and your fiancée are both abroad, aren’t they? It’s better to have the engagement banquet there. I’ll make sure to set aside that day to attend.”
Jiang Qiu paused for a moment; her voice filled with a bit of confusion. “But I heard my fiancée wants to have it back home, and is willing to live in Lihua City with me in the future.”
“Does she have relatives in Lihua City?”
“No, she’s never even been to Lihua City, which is why I find it strange. But that’s fine too. Since I’m going to settle in Lihua City after the wedding, if she’s willing, the engagement and the wedding can both be here.”
“Did her family agree?”
“I don’t know. My mother hasn’t told me anything yet; I’m going there to meet them. Oh, have you heard of her family? My fiancée’s surname is Wen, called Wen Yan.”
Yu Kunian: “I don’t know them. Why?”
“Just asking.” Jiang Qiu paused, then added, “Chatting with her lately, I feel like the way she talks is a bit weird. I’m a little worried she’s being forced into the alliance. I have to ask clearly during this trip; I can’t go against someone’s will.”
Yu Kunian acknowledged this, then remembered something and spoke again: “Since you’re going to see CEO Cheng, do me a favor as well. Regarding the deal between me and her, I won’t have to make a special trip then.”
Jiang Qiu agreed without hesitation. She then sent over a photo of that Omega, Wen Yan, saying with a light laugh that, if possible, she might as well make it a double celebration and hold her engagement banquet along with Yu Kunian’s.
During the conversation, Yu Kunian sensed that Jiang Qiu was willing to marry Wen Yan because her family approved. As for whether Jiang Qiu liked her, no one seemed to care, including Jiang Qiu herself.
Yu Kunian felt a slight sense of oddity, but on second thought, it was fine. Since Jiang Qiu had never been in love, as long as she didn’t have objections, the atmosphere of this alliance should be peaceful, or at least free of resentment.
Their environments were different, and Yu Kunian never felt that her own thoughts necessarily applied to Jiang Qiu.
The call with Jiang Qiu didn’t last long. After hanging up, Yu Kunian looked out the window at the darkening sky. She recalled that Song Wenzhi’s exchange meeting should be ending today. Just then, a new message notification sounded. Yu Kunian looked down.
Unexpectedly, Song Wenzhi asked if it was convenient for the Alpha to pick her up tonight.
Yu Kunian’s eyes lit up. She quickly replied “It’s convenient,” and then asked for Song Wenzhi’s arrival time in Lihua City. She had originally thought Song Wenzhi would return tomorrow, but she didn’t expect her to change her ticket—not returning with the other teachers, but catching a ride by herself tonight.
Upon hearing this news, Yu Kunian’s smile never faded. She arrived early at the station parking lot to wait. In a way the Alpha hadn’t even noticed herself, she was filled with joyful anticipation for every meeting with Song Wenzhi.
The night grew deeper. The night wind at this time could be a bit chilly. Yu Kunian went to the station exit. When she left home, she had wrapped herself in a khaki trench coat, which, paired with black boots, made her legs look even longer and straighter. Yu Kunian was beautiful; she didn’t even need much makeup to be an extremely striking and eye-catching presence. If not for her “keep away” aura, she would likely have been approached by many people for her contact information.
Especially tonight, Yu Kunian had dressed up intentionally.
Even her hair was perfect.
Seeing that the time had arrived but Song Wenzhi was nowhere to be seen, Yu Kunian couldn’t help but frequently glance around while sending a message. Song Wenzhi sent her a photo of her location. Yu Kunian dialed her number. “I’ll come find you.”
Yu Kunian’s figure moved through the crowd. Many people were getting off this train. Song Wenzhi stood where she was, watching the people coming and going. She held her phone tightly to her ear, feeling very much at ease.
A moment later, Yu Kunian’s voice came through the receiver: “Zhizhi.” Her voice was soft, laced with a smile.
Yu Kunian said again: “Turn around.”
Song Wenzhi instinctively looked up, then turned. There were many people in front of her, but she still spotted Yu Kunian instantly. The Alpha was smiling, tilting her head slightly at her as she walked briskly toward her.
“Zhizhi.” Yu Kunian’s voice seemed to cast a spell on the Omega. Song Wenzhi began to walk forward unconsciously. For a moment, she couldn’t tell where the voice in her ear was coming from—it felt far and yet near, like ripples on a lake shimmering in her heart.
Song Wenzhi knew she wanted to see Yu Kunian, so she had changed her ticket.
