The Pursuit of Love After Divorcing My Cold Omega - Chapter 22
I Need—Your Pheromones.
Looking down through the moonlight filtering through the curtains, the Omega lying on her side in bed had a flushed face, a layer of fine sweat on her forehead, and strands of hair clinging to her fair neck. Her brow was tightly furrowed; she seemed to be in some distress.
Yu Kunian’s breathing was intermittent. She slowly squatted down and leaned closer to the edge of the bed. After hesitating repeatedly, she finally reached out and touched Song Wenzhi’s cheek with her fingertip.
A scalding temperature.
It gave the Alpha a start.
Perhaps because Yu Kunian had just returned from outside, her fingers still held the chill of the night. Compared to the heat of the cheek, that touch of coolness was exceptionally distinct and special. The Omega in her sleep shrugged her shoulders slightly, but remained very quiet.
So quiet that the slightest sound in the room was audible. Yu Kunian heard her own heartbeat—clear and accelerating. Her slender fingers retracted a few inches at that moment, yet unconsciously and longingly hovered in mid-air. The temperature on her fingertip seemed to linger. The Alpha didn’t know if it was because the room temperature was too high or because of the Omega’s pheromones, but she found herself heating up.
Yu Kunian didn’t move for a long time. Her erratic breath brushed lightly over the back of Song Wenzhi’s hand, but the Alpha didn’t notice, her gaze fixed solely on the Omega’s features. The usual faint aloofness in those eyes was gone, replaced only by a relaxed expression. Song Wenzhi’s sleeping face was much like a lazily reclining kitten—gentle and pleasing to the eye.
Yu Kunian’s pupils trembled slightly. Although the moonlight spilling in wasn’t strong, in the somewhat dim room, she felt herself lose her composure the moment she glimpsed Song Wenzhi.
A strange and unfamiliar feeling emerged in her heart. The racing heartbeat felt as if it were striking against her lungs. Yu Kunian was lost in thought, experiencing a rare sense of bewilderment.
Her thoughts had almost come to a standstill. Yu Kunian found it difficult to judge her own state, but she still remembered to check on Song Wenzhi’s current condition. Thus, she forced down all her emotional anomalies and raised her hand again, pressing it against Song Wenzhi’s forehead. The forehead temperature was normal, but for some reason, she was sweating. Yu Kunian carefully wiped away the fine sweat for Song Wenzhi and brushed aside the stray hairs on her forehead.
Her legs had grown somewhat numb from squatting. Yu Kunian cautiously stood up and leaned against the nearby nightstand to catch her breath, even deliberately suppressing the sound of her breathing. The air conditioning in the room was set a bit low. Yu Kunian couldn’t find the remote, so she had to lean down, lower her eyes, and pull the quilt up over Song Wenzhi, then walk to the other side of the bed to gently tuck in the corner.
Looking at Song Wenzhi’s current state, she didn’t seem to have entered her heat period. However, releasing such a high concentration of pheromones during a non-heat period was clearly abnormal. Yu Kunian sighed softly; she was still uneasy. After all, she didn’t know why Song Wenzhi was like this, and she worried that some unexpected situation might arise.
After thinking it over, Yu Kunian returned to the front of Song Wenzhi. Just as she was about to find a place to sit, she noticed that the scent-blocking patch Song Wenzhi had changed not long ago had somehow rubbed off and was now left by the pillow. The Alpha paused and decided to put the patch back on the Omega; this would also allow her to stay a bit longer to observe.
When Yu Kunian leaned forward and reached out to pick up the patch behind Song Wenzhi, her shadow almost completely covered the Omega. Because she was so close, the Alpha’s minty scent also swirled around Song Wenzhi. Having retrieved the patch from under the pillow, Yu Kunian slowed her movements, attempting to stick it back onto Song Wenzhi’s gland.
However, the waterfall-like hair blocked most of the Omega’s gland. Yu Kunian had no choice but to patiently brush it aside. But before she could finish, she first heard the Omega’s wary yet slightly trembling voice:
“…Who is it?”
Yu Kunian hastily withdrew her hand, stood up straight, and returned to her original position, saying soothingly, “Teacher Song, it’s me, Yu Kunian.”
Song Wenzhi’s originally tense expression slowly relaxed after hearing Yu Kunian’s words. However, she was still somewhat half-awake. After blinking, she looked at Yu Kunian with half-closed eyes, her brow furrowing a bit more.
It wasn’t clear if it was an illusion, but Yu Kunian felt that Song Wenzhi’s pheromones had become even more intense, and her own pheromones were inadvertently induced to leak out. No matter how quickly she tried to control them, they would still be keenly perceived by the current Song Wenzhi.
Yu Kunian feared her own pheromones would have a negative impact on Song Wenzhi, so she quickly took a few steps back. She somewhat regretted not specifically going back to get her own scent-blocking patches before entering Song Wenzhi’s room. Otherwise, she wouldn’t be in such a disheveled state from being induced by Song Wenzhi’s pheromones due to a momentary oversight.
Song Wenzhi, however, raised her hand during Yu Kunian’s backward movement. Her voice was very light: “Yu… Yu Kunian.”
“Teacher Song,” Yu Kunian spoke with concern, but she didn’t dare get closer. “Are you feeling very unwell? Your pheromones seem to be out of control. Is there anything I can do for you?”
Song Wenzhi’s consciousness gradually cleared, but her hands were somewhat weak. A familiar throbbing pain was occurring at the gland on the back of her neck. The Omega lowered her eyes, a few traces of tension and panic flickering in their depths, as she deliberately concealed the truth. She didn’t speak but shook her head, struggling to prop herself up. Her breathing quickened slightly before she spoke again: “I might… need your help.” The scent-blocking patch was no longer effective.
Yu Kunian nodded. “What can I do?”
“Can you come a little closer?” Song Wenzhi’s breath trembled slightly. Feigning that nothing was wrong, she spoke to Yu Kunian.
Yu Kunian hesitated for a moment but finally walked closer, stopping in front of Song Wenzhi. Meeting the Omega’s gaze, she was enveloped in the scent of coconut candy. Just as she leaned down, the Omega’s hand reached out and grabbed her clothes.
The sudden force pulled the Alpha downward. Caught off guard, Yu Kunian failed to stand firm and stumbled forward, nearly pressing against Song Wenzhi. Song Wenzhi’s other hand, however, brushed over her shoulder. The Omega rose from the bed onto her knees and drew closer to her, her warm breath seemingly brushing against Yu Kunian’s neck.
So itchy.
Yu Kunian’s breathing stagnated for a moment. Her hands, suspended in mid-air, didn’t know where to go. She was too close to Song Wenzhi, but she didn’t dare pull back. She could only stiffen her back and maintain this distance with difficulty. She lowered her head, and after confirming that Song Wenzhi was still rational, she spoke softly: “Is this… okay?”
As soon as she finished speaking, Song Wenzhi rested her chin on Yu Kunian’s shoulder.
The Alpha was already feeling utterly at a loss, caught in a dilemma. But the Omega’s scent was so rich it almost completely enveloped her. Yu Kunian was unable to resist and became somewhat flustered. Her Alpha pheromones were suppressed repeatedly, yet she heard Song Wenzhi whisper in her ear:
“I need—” The Omega’s voice held an undeniable tremor. Her words paused for a moment as Song Wenzhi seemed to be considering whether the words she was about to say were rational. She watched her own fingertips become entangled in Yu Kunian’s curls, her pupils shaking slightly. After a few moments of silence, she finished the sentence: “Your pheromones.”
Was she being calm? Probably.
Was she telling the truth? Was she serious? Yes.
Song Wenzhi didn’t know what Yu Kunian would think after she said this. She was merely following her instincts, subconsciously escaping. She wanted to escape the distress of tonight and tried to let the Alpha she was finally familiar with help her. In the Omega’s subconscious, Yu Kunian was a reliable Alpha.
So she moved closer—close enough to feel the Alpha’s faint pheromones.
The room was so dim they could barely see each other’s expressions. Yu Kunian was first stunned upon hearing Song Wenzhi’s words, then she turned her head in astonishment to look at the Omega beside her. She confirmed she hadn’t misheard. The sound of heartbeats was deafening once again; this time, they couldn’t tell who the sound originated from.
Yu Kunian asked her, “Teacher Song, have you entered your heat period?” She still needed to confirm.
Song Wenzhi said, “No.” She was unwilling to tell Yu Kunian the truth; concealment was a repeated choice. “Don’t ask anymore, Yu Kunian.”
Yu Kunian said, “Okay.”
With that, the Alpha’s soothing pheromones were slowly released. The scent of mint forcefully yet gently enveloped the Omega’s pheromones, slowly swirling around them both. A coolness rose amidst the sweetness, and even the temperature seemed to drop.
Through this experiment, Yu Kunian reached a more definite conclusion—the pheromone compatibility between her and Song Wenzhi was absolutely very high. Because her powerful pheromones had merged so easily with Song Wenzhi’s, with no rejection and no other uncomfortable reactions, it was as if they had already been broken in together long ago.
Song Wenzhi’s fingers curled into her palm where Yu Kunian couldn’t see, her thumb repeatedly rubbing her knuckles. Whether her breathing was rapid or deliberately calmed, it was hidden well. Until the concentration of the Alpha’s pheromones was equal to or even heavier than her own, Song Wenzhi still felt unwell.
Yu Kunian noticed Song Wenzhi’s mood and thought her pheromones weren’t enough, so she released more. But Song Wenzhi’s reaction was unexpected. The Omega suddenly let go of Yu Kunian and sat back abruptly, moving a few inches away. Yu Kunian froze, her gaze following Song Wenzhi closely. A few traces of resistance appeared in the Omega’s eyes. Yu Kunian panicked for a moment, thinking her pheromones had been counterproductive. She hurriedly said, “I’m sorry, I…” The mint scent dissipated significantly as she spoke.
“In my bag, there are inhibitors,” Song Wenzhi spoke at the same time as her, interrupting what she was going to say. “Can you help me get them?”
The Omega’s breathing became rapid. She had just remembered the dependency Xia Weichi had once told her about. For Yu Kunian, releasing pheromones to soothe her was the most convenient and non-transgressive thing to do. But for Song Wenzhi, if it lasted too long, the powerful mint pheromones of the Alpha would become an addiction for her, a brand she would never be able to quit for the rest of her life.
Yu Kunian had no reason to refuse Song Wenzhi’s request, so she swallowed the words she was about to say. Looking at Song Wenzhi’s expression, she found it somewhat hard to read, but she decided not to think about it for now. Following Song Wenzhi’s direction to get the inhibitors the Omega needed, Yu Kunian discovered that it wasn’t a normal inhibitor, but a high-potency one.
The effectiveness was at least three times that of the regular version. It could 100% forcibly inhibit pheromone secretion for 48 hours, forcing the bodily functions back to normal. However, it also had side effects. It would cause significant damage to the Omega’s body, including the glands. Furthermore, such high-potency inhibitors were generally not allowed to be used on non-military Omegas, except in special cases.
Yu Kunian’s gaze darkened. “This… who prescribed it for you?”
