The Pursuit of Love After Divorcing My Cold Omega - Chapter 21
The pheromones were spiraling out of control.
“Yu… President Yu?” the other party stammered, his eyes instantly crawling with terror and an expression of utter disbelief.
Yu Kunian’s expression remained unchanged. Her fingertips tapped slowly and rhythmically against the table in front of her. “Since you know who I am, things become simpler,” she said unhurriedly. “I suggest you simply accept this; otherwise, you won’t even see a cent of that five hundred thousand.”
“No… that won’t do. We are practically about to become family. How can you lay a hand on me?”
“Who exactly are you? What right do you have to be ‘family’ with me?”
The man choked on his words. He hesitated, averting his gaze as he began to weigh the pros and cons amidst the heavy silence. Just as Yu Kunian’s patience was about to reach its limit, he finally spoke: “The Omega President Yu is meant to marry in the alliance… she is my elder sister.”
Yu Kunian’s fingertips paused. This sentence was clearly unexpected. “I have never heard of you.”
“They indeed haven’t acknowledged my existence yet, but it’s coming soon. Therefore, we will be family.”
Yu Kunian withdrew her hand and leaned back against the sofa’s backrest. She looked down at the person before her with a cold detachment, coolly spitting out three words: “An illegitimate son.”
This revelation was quite surprising. Yu Kunian’s thoughts quickly analyzed the entire situation—the family of her potential marriage partner was one riddled with infidelity and a history of misconduct. Yu Kunian, who had originally come to Yin City on a business trip to investigate without results, had not expected someone to hand her the leverage personally. Moreover, it was concrete evidence, which far exceeded her expectations.
This year, Lihua City had added new standards for public listing quotas. Every company applying to go public had to pass the review and supervision of the municipal committee. Only companies issued a recommendation letter by the supervisory board were eligible to compete for a listing spot. The only way to potentially make the supervisory board relax its scrutiny was to have a high-ranking official from the committee personally write a letter of recommendation. Such a method could not only suppress scandals of infidelity but could even use other means to “whitewash” an illegitimate son after the company went public.
So, they had set their sights on Yu Dai.
If they formed a marriage alliance with the Yu family, a recommendation letter would be as easy as reaching out one’s hand. Furthermore, Yu Dai had always maintained a good reputation within the committee; no one would question her decisions. Yu Kunian found it laughable. Her mother was only concerned with rushing to push her toward another Omega, never considering that they were being utilized in such a manner.
The Yu family would absolutely never marry into such a household.
Yu Kunian glanced at the man, her gaze coated in a layer of ice. She decided to stop being polite. “Because of them, you’ve been acting lawlessly in Yin City? You even dared to commit an assault with a weapon, intending to destroy an Omega’s gland?”
Under the suppression of Yu Kunian’s pheromones, the other party quickly confessed everything. Thanks to Yu Dai, the marriage alliance party also knew that Yu Kunian had been very close to an Omega named Song Wenzhi recently, and that she was refusing the marriage because of her. Thus, they came up with this plan—an Omega with a damaged gland would never be a candidate for Yu Kunian’s hand in marriage.
The marriage alliance family had significant connections within the Yin City police force, and surveillance was not widespread there. They could fully protect this so-called illegitimate son and help him escape. Furthermore, since Song Wenzhi had not actually been harmed yet, it would be even harder to secure a conviction.
Recalling how smug this person had looked at the beginning, Yu Kunian’s aura grew even more oppressive. She would make this family pay the price, regardless of the means.
Damaged glands alone weren’t enough to offset this scheme. Yu Kunian decided to plan further. Amidst the man’s pleas for mercy, her phone suddenly rang. The caller was Jiang Qiu.
Yu Kunian stepped out of the private room to answer the call. Jiang Qiu’s tone was urgent: “Don’t go through with the marriage! Don’t do it!”
Yu Kunian was stunned for a moment before asking helplessly, “I haven’t yet for the time being. What’s wrong?”
Jiang Qiu’s voice seemed to carry a hint of fury. “They’ve dug a massive pit for you, just waiting for you to jump in.”
Yu Kunian raised an eyebrow with interest. “How so?”
Although she had suspected they were up to no good, she hadn’t been able to determine their exact intentions. She was also quite curious as to why they were so desperate for a marriage alliance now, considering the public listing was still a long way off.
“You know their family business is preparing to go public, but you probably don’t know that they signed a gambling agreement with someone.” Jiang Qiu sent a file she had uncovered to Yu Kunian. “Take a look. This agreement is semi-public. Once you read it, you’ll pretty much understand their goal.”
Yu Kunian opened the file and scanned through it casually. “Very interesting. They actually dare to target Zhaoming Biotech.”
“More than that; they are truly audacious. The agreement clearly states that if they cannot go public by the end of this year, the ‘gambling’ fails, and the other party in the agreement will require a share buyback. When that time comes, they will likely lose their controlling stake, and the enterprise will slip entirely from their hands. Next, guess what happens?” Jiang Qiu grew more excited as she spoke, as if she could already see the scene of their failure.
Yu Kunian played along. “All their efforts will be for naught.”
“Exactly. They will be completely ousted from Lihua City’s business circles and taken over by the other investor. This ending involves losing everything they put in and ending up with nothing. Just thinking about it is gratifying.” Jiang Qiu wished for the failure to happen immediately. She hadn’t expected these people to stretch their hands all the way to Yu Kunian’s enterprise. “After all, their purpose for marrying you is—”
“To annex my Zhaoming Biotech to achieve their own listing,” Yu Kunian interrupted, speaking calmly.
“Yes, truly petty people! To use such a sinister method against you—they clearly don’t understand your character. However, Zhaoming Biotech is such a big fish; they might not be able to swallow it without bursting their bellies. Kunian, what do you plan to do?”
Yu Kunian pondered for a moment, organizing her thoughts. She asked, “Who is the other party in the gambling agreement?”
Over the phone, Jiang Qiu snapped her fingers and said with a laugh, “You’ve hit the nail on the head. It’s someone who surprised me. You should know her too—a very famous Chinese-American. Want to take a guess?”
Yu Kunian said, “An Alpha from abroad?”
Jiang Qiu stopped teasing and agreed, saying, “A famous business elite from Wall Street, President Cheng—Cheng Lu.”
The name was indeed familiar and truly famous. Both Yu Kunian and Jiang Qiu had crossed paths with Cheng Lu in the past; their families had occasionally interacted. Later, after Cheng Lu immigrated, there was very little contact. The last time she had heard the name, Cheng Lu had already established a firm foothold on Wall Street, and her career was flourishing.
“Her ambition is as vast as ever,” Yu Kunian remarked. “Both domestic and international markets are not neglected.”
Jiang Qiu asked, “So, do you have a way to deal with that lot?”
“I do. I should send them a grand gift.” The corners of Yu Kunian’s lips curled upward. She quickly formulated a new strategy, saying with determination, “If they want to swallow my Zhaoming Biotech, they should first see what it tastes like for themselves.”
“As long as you have a plan.” Jiang Qiu finally felt at ease. “By the way, how are things progressing with Teacher Song? You’ve run all the way to Yin City—when will you finally win her over?”
Yu Kunian paused, recalling the scene of replacing the scent-blocking patch for Song Wenzhi that evening. “Soon.”
Without saying more, Yu Kunian quickly hung up. She opened her contact list, scrolled to Cheng Lu’s phone number, and after a slight hesitation, dialed it.
She hoped Cheng Lu hadn’t changed her number.
The ringing continued for a long time. Yu Kunian waited quietly until finally, at the last moment, the other party answered. Yu Kunian spoke first: “President Cheng, I have a mutually beneficial transaction. I’m calling to see if you’re interested.”
Silence persisted for about ten seconds on the other end before Cheng Lu’s voice rang out with a hint of lethargy. “Oh? How rare. What kind of transaction could prompt President Yu to call me personally?”
“President Cheng wants to expand into the domestic market and has signed a gambling agreement,” Yu Kunian said unhurriedly. “Now, there is an opportunity that could allow you to skip waiting until the end of the year and take ownership of that company very soon. Are you interested, President Cheng?”
Cheng Lu gave a light laugh. “President Yu certainly knows a lot. Speak then. What are your terms?”
Yu Kunian said, “I need President Cheng to do me a favor. It will take some time, but there is no rush.” Her own plan had found its most suitable ally; it was a godsend.
Cheng Lu was very straightforward. Without needing excessive explanation, both could guess the other’s intentions. This cooperation was naturally reached smoothly, with both parties obtaining what they wanted most.
With the problem resolved, Yu Kunian stopped wasting words with the person in the private room. She stood before him and gave a deliberate reminder: “Your backing is likely about to be unable to save itself. Get ready; I will be suing you.”
She would make sure none of those people had a good time.
After leaving the place, Yu Kunian hurried back to the hotel. She used the room card she had taken with her to open Song Wenzhi’s door. Originally, she only wanted to check on Song Wenzhi’s condition, but she didn’t expect to be instantly and aggressively enveloped by the scent of coconut candy the moment she entered the room.
The Alpha’s minty scent also leaked out slightly out of control in that instant. Yu Kunian hadn’t intended it, but the Omega’s pheromones were so thick that they induced the Alpha’s pheromones to emerge. Amidst the intense sweetness, a faint, refreshing chill gradually mingled, the two scents swirling around each other in the room. Yu Kunian’s breathing quickened slightly. She instinctively tried to suppress her pheromones, then frowned as she looked toward Song Wenzhi, who was still resting on the bed.
Yu Kunian discovered that her pheromones merged with Song Wenzhi’s very easily, without any rejection or discomfort. Almost the moment the pheromones were released, the two types of breath approached each other and intertwined. She had never felt this way before. Yu Kunian speculated that her pheromone compatibility with Song Wenzhi must be very high; otherwise, there wouldn’t be this situation where they didn’t repel each other at all and were instead mutually attracted.
Yu Kunian knew she should leave now; otherwise, she might induce an early rut because of Song Wenzhi’s pheromones. However, Yu Kunian was worried; the Omega’s state did not seem normal.
After reconsidering several times, the Alpha slowly approached the bedside. The pheromones grew even more intense, and Yu Kunian found it difficult to exercise restraint. She closed her eyes to steady her breath, trying to prevent Song Wenzhi’s pheromones from affecting her.
