The Pursuit of Love After Divorcing My Cold Omega - Chapter 20
“You’ve already done very well.”
Yu Kunian was slightly lost in thought until Song Wenzhi called her name. Snapping back to reality, she quickly took a step back, steadied her breathing, and asked, “Are you feeling any better now?”
Song Wenzhi was certain her pheromones weren’t at risk of spiraling out of control, but Yu Kunian’s reaction was strange. Instead of answering, she asked, “President Yu, what’s wrong?”
Yu Kunian lowered her head and let out a breath. “It’s nothing. You—are you hurt?” Mid-sentence, Yu Kunian suddenly caught sight of the gashes on Song Wenzhi’s arm. She knelt down immediately, grasping Song Wenzhi’s wrist. “You’re bleeding.”
Glancing at her surroundings, she spotted a pharmacy open by the roadside. “Wait here for a moment,” Yu Kunian said.
“No need, I…” Before Song Wenzhi could finish, Yu Kunian had already stood up and headed toward the pharmacy.
Watching Yu Kunian’s receding back, Song Wenzhi let out an imperceptible sigh. She lowered her eyes, her gaze falling on the spot where the beads of blood had already coagulated. A moment later, her brows knitted slightly as she reached up to touch the back of her neck.
In that instant, the scent of coconut candy leaked out without warning and beyond her control. The scent barrier patch masked most of it, but a faint sweetness remained if one leaned close. A layer of thin sweat broke out on Song Wenzhi’s forehead again; her breathing grew ragged. Hurriedly, she pulled a box of medicine from her bag, popped out a tablet, and held it in her mouth.
The Omega’s fingertips trembled, and the last traces of color drained from her face. Song Wenzhi forced her breathing to level out, feigning composure. Before Yu Kunian returned, she acted as if no accident had occurred.
Yu Kunian didn’t notice. She opened the purchased iodophor and took Song Wenzhi’s wrist, kneeling down without a word to disinfect the wound for the Omega. Fortunately, the cut wasn’t large or deep, requiring only simple treatment. However, Yu Kunian kept her brow furrowed, carefully disinfecting the area where the knife had sliced her skin, her expression grim.
Sensing Yu Kunian’s emotions, Song Wenzhi pursed her lips. After a moment, she whispered, “President Yu.”
Yu Kunian stopped her movements and quickly looked up. Song Wenzhi’s eyes wavered slightly as she saw the lingering self-reproach in the Alpha’s eyes. The Omega’s eyelashes trembled, and the hand being held subconsciously curled inward. “President Yu, you saved me. You were very timely.”
She heard Yu Kunian sigh. “If I had arrived faster, you wouldn’t have been hurt.”
“President Yu, you did your best.” Song Wenzhi shook her head. “You’ve already done very well.”
Hearing Song Wenzhi’s words, Yu Kunian froze for a moment. She met Song Wenzhi’s gaze and saw unmasked affirmation in the Omega’s eyes. Yu Kunian didn’t know how to describe the feeling of this moment; she only knew that Song Wenzhi’s gaze was like a starry sky inviting her to fall. Subconsciously, she wanted to lean closer. “Teacher Song, I’m just glad you’re okay.”
Song Wenzhi said, “Thank you, President Yu. Without you, I might not have known how to resolve this.”
The wind after dark always carried a chill, but when it brushed against their cheeks, the scorching heat did not subside in the least. Yu Kunian looked up at Song Wenzhi for a long time, her deep affection hard to hide. Song Wenzhi had the ability to solve the problem even without her—Yu Kunian knew that—it just so happened that she was there. Yet, when Song Wenzhi’s words reached the Alpha’s ears, they clearly carried a different meaning.
Song Wenzhi needed Yu Kunian. In that moment, the first person the Omega thought of was Yu Kunian. The Alpha felt needed; she was being relied upon.
Yu Kunian seemed to sense the coconut candy pheromones again. She withdrew her hand and slowly lowered her gaze, but she didn’t stand up. Only after several unsteady breaths did she speak: “Call me ‘Yu Kunian,’ can you?”
Her voice wasn’t loud, but it fell perfectly into Song Wenzhi’s ears.
The Omega asked, “Why?”
Yu Kunian was silent for a moment. Her hair was ruffled by the wind, and the hand she raised to tuck it behind her ear froze in mid-air because someone else had forestalled her. Fingers gathered her curls, and a fingertip pressed against her cheek.
Time seemed to stand still. Yu Kunian looked up, meeting Song Wenzhi’s eyes as the Omega leaned in. The Omega’s breath brushed against the tip of her nose. The action had been subconscious, and Song Wenzhi was equally stunned by it.
Yu Kunian felt as though Song Wenzhi’s pheromones were enveloping her. Unable to restrain herself, she covered Song Wenzhi’s fingertips with her palm. A hint of a smile appeared in her eyes as she said, “Before you, there is never a ‘President Yu.’ I only wish to be ‘Yu Kunian.'”
The warmth at her fingertips was just right, but Song Wenzhi’s heart hammered so hard she felt as if she were being burned. She retracted her finger from Yu Kunian’s cheek. Realizing her abruptness, the Alpha immediately let go. Song Wenzhi leaned back against the back of the bench, moving her gaze away, though she didn’t know where to look.
What Yu Kunian had said wasn’t exactly “sweet talk,” yet it was more potent than any pick-up line. It made the air temperature rise. Song Wenzhi felt as if the wind blowing by was hot, keeping the flush on her face from fading; the heat at the tips of her ears was particularly intense.
There was a moment of silence. Yu Kunian lowered her eyes and said, “Sorry.” Sorry for her abruptness.
At the same time, Song Wenzhi happened to speak: “Yu Kunian.”
Those three syllables were articulated very clearly. Song Wenzhi was seriously calling out the Alpha’s name. After speaking, she turned her head back to look at the owner of that name. Yu Kunian was startled at first, then nodded with a look of pleasant surprise, responding, “Mhm.”
The Alpha felt once again that whenever Song Wenzhi called her name, it sounded so beautiful. For no reason at all, she loved it when Song Wenzhi called her that way. A smile filled Yu Kunian’s amber eyes. Song Wenzhi didn’t speak again, her fingers unconsciously rubbing the hem of her clothes. She saw the arc of Yu Kunian’s thin lips, and the faint mole on the tip of Yu Kunian’s nose. She couldn’t help but say it again: “Yu Kunian.”
It was the name she had called countless times silently in her heart.
Now, she could say it openly, and it was at the sincere request of the Alpha before her.
Yu Kunian tilted her head up and moved a bit closer, answering her once more.
Ripples suddenly surged in her heart. Song Wenzhi knew she must be smiling now too, her gaze sincere and earnest. Yu Kunian picked up the iodophor again. Her mood had turned joyful as she continued to tend to Song Wenzhi’s wound. “Tomorrow, I’ll go to the school gate early to wait for you. I won’t let today’s incident happen again.”
Song Wenzhi didn’t refuse, but asked, “Will it affect your schedule?”
Yu Kunian shook her head. “Schedules can be adjusted anytime; they aren’t that fixed.”
Song Wenzhi nodded, then remembered the man with the knife. “That person was specifically targeting me. When he ran, I realized he wanted to destroy my gland.”
A dark shadow passed through Yu Kunian’s eyes. She thought for a moment and asked, “Teacher Song, have you had conflicts with anyone before?”
Song Wenzhi said, “No conflicts, but since I took over the United Academy, there have been radicals among those who oppose the Union. I’ve received threatening phone calls.”
“The number on the official website?” Yu Kunian remembered from her previous investigation that the public mobile number wasn’t the one Song Wenzhi had given her.
Song Wenzhi nodded. “A work number.” She had always kept her work and personal numbers strictly separate.
Yu Kunian said, “Since people are already bothering you, why not remove the information from the website?”
Upon hearing this, Song Wenzhi hesitated for a moment before answering: “My intention in putting the number out there was to provide a channel for people who need help. I can block threatening calls one by one, but I can’t delete the contact information online, because someone might truly need it.” At the very least, the name “Song Wenzhi” was enough to make others less apprehensive.
That was why she answered every call on that work phone. Regardless of whether it was real or fake, she had to check. If someone was truly in urgent need, she wanted to help, no matter who they were or where they were. Naturally, she had the ability to discern, but truly risky situations were rare. The Omega’s voice on the phone today sounded so frightened that Song Wenzhi hadn’t dared to be 100% sure it was a scam.
“Next time something like this happens, just tell me. I have a way to solve it.” Yu Kunian understood why Song Wenzhi persisted; she could see Song Wenzhi was stubborn in this regard, so she didn’t try to persuade her further. She only added, “I’ll handle today’s matter properly. Don’t worry, Teacher Song.”
The incident didn’t seem like a simple radical threat. The person wanted to harm Song Wenzhi’s gland, which suggested a different motive. Yu Kunian didn’t intend to tell Song Wenzhi her suspicions—she didn’t want to cause her more panic. So, after finishing with the Omega’s arm, she knelt down again, ending the topic and preparing to carry Song Wenzhi back.
The Omega tried to decline, saying she could walk, but the Alpha was firm. She didn’t intend to give up halfway. Unable to win the argument, the Omega was once again hoisted onto Yu Kunian’s back, heading toward the hotel.
They tacitly drew closer to each other in the night. Song Wenzhi’s breath fell gently on Yu Kunian’s neck, and soft strands of hair brushed against the Alpha’s shoulder, causing Yu Kunian’s steps to pause occasionally. The way back wasn’t long, yet it took quite a while.
Song Wenzhi didn’t refuse Yu Kunian entry into her room. She allowed the Alpha to place her on the edge of the bed. Yu Kunian turned and leaned over her, asking softly, “Do you want to rest for a while? Your state seemed a bit off just now.”
Song Wenzhi instinctively looked away. “I’m just a bit shaken. I’ll be fine after a nap.”
Yu Kunian said, “Okay, I’ll stay with you for a bit before I leave.” She wasn’t at ease; when the scent patch was being changed earlier, Song Wenzhi’s complexion had been poor.
Song Wenzhi’s breathing gradually stabilized. Yu Kunian sat beside her without making a sound until the Omega seemed to have fallen asleep. Only then did she rise quietly, carefully draw the curtains, and leave.
After stepping out, Yu Kunian did not return to her own room. Instead, with a darkened expression, she walked out of the hotel.
The man who had attempted the assault was currently being held by her people. He was still shouting provocatively. Seeing Yu Kunian arrive, he remained arrogant, seemingly unconcerned about being sent to the police station.
Yu Kunian stopped in front of the man. Her cold, sharp gaze swept over him as she wordlessly released her pheromones, forcefully suppressing the man’s defiant scent. In the dim private room, the scent of mint rapidly filled the space. The powerful, oppressive Alpha pheromones were enough to make one’s legs go weak. Yu Kunian sat down unhurriedly, watching the expression on the man’s face turn to pain before she spoke slowly:
“Five hundred thousand.”
Her voice was like frost. As the pressure of her pheromones grew stronger, the Alpha opposite her couldn’t stop trembling, his arrogance completely vanished.
Yu Kunian paused, then continued: “I’m buying your gland—permanent damage.”
Yu Kunian’s tone was flat, as if she were talking about a trivial matter, but such terrifying words were impossible to hear calmly. The man, unable to resist, twisted his face and whispered, “This… this is illegal!”
Yu Kunian added expressionlessly, “I’m buying an ‘accidental’ injury.”
“You wouldn’t dare! Even the police don’t dare touch me easily. Who the hell are you?”
To Yu Kunian’s surprise, the man uttered a familiar name—the marriage partner Yu Dai had selected, whom she had met just a few days prior. Yu Kunian smiled, but a fierce glint flashed in her eyes. “So you were sent by them. Perhaps I should introduce myself. My surname is Yu. Yu Kunian.”
