The Pursuit of Love After Divorcing My Cold Omega - Chapter 18
“You Are the One, Yu Kunian’s Only One”
The hotel was busy with people coming and going. They were positioned very close to the entrance, and the wind chimes hanging in the shop rang repeatedly as the breeze drifted in. Song Wenzhi looked at her, her expression calm and earnest.
In that instant, their eyes met. Yu Kunian’s fingertips paused, a flash of surprise flitting through her eyes before being replaced by an irrepressible smile.
Song Wenzhi’s long hair was draped over her shoulders. She stared at Yu Kunian quietly, her expression normal, but she hesitated for a long time as if wanting to speak but failing to find the words. It was Yu Kunian who spoke first: “Teacher Song, what a coincidence.”
The shop was still crowded. To avoid blocking others, Song Wenzhi sat directly across from Yu Kunian before asking, “Why did you come here?”
Yu Kunian replied, “I really am here on a business trip. I chose this shop at random; I didn’t expect to run into you, Teacher Song.”
Song Wenzhi was half-skeptical of her words. After all, she had only called yesterday to say she was coming to Yin City for a conference, and today Yu Kunian was here on business—it was hard to believe. However, Yu Kunian soon “confessed”: “It is true that I came partly because of you, Teacher Song, but my client is also here, so it’s killing two birds with one stone. If I really couldn’t see you for an entire week, I would miss you to an exaggerated degree.”
Although Yu Kunian’s words were expected, hearing them still made Song Wenzhi instinctively avert her gaze and cough lightly. “I see.”
“Have you already finished eating, Teacher Song?” Yu Kunian asked.
“I’m finished.” It was as she was preparing to head back with her colleagues that Song Wenzhi had caught sight of Yu Kunian.
Upon hearing this, Yu Kunian’s lips curved upward as she continued to ask: “Then… is Teacher Song here to keep me company?”
Song Wenzhi paused. Her first reaction upon seeing Yu Kunian had simply been to walk over; she hadn’t thought of anything else. But when she looked up at the question, she saw Yu Kunian’s beaming face and those amber eyes gazing at her with full expectation.
Her heart skipped a beat. Song Wenzhi asked, “Do you want me to stay with you?”
Yu Kunian nodded, a smile overflowing from her eyes. “Very much.”
Song Wenzhi heard herself say, “I can stay with you.”
Yu Kunian then asked her, “Do you have any recommendations for this shop?”
Song Wenzhi ordered the set meal she usually ate. Even though she had already eaten, Yu Kunian still ordered a glass of fruit juice for her. Song Wenzhi looked out the window at the scenery, feeling somewhat dazed. She unconsciously nibbled on her straw and suddenly heard Yu Kunian say, “I’ve been here before, but it was a long time ago. I don’t remember most of it clearly.”
Song Wenzhi’s thoughts drifted away at those words but quickly returned. She asked, “What does President Yu still remember now?”
“A high school classmate. A person I vaguely remember, though unfortunately, I forgot to ask her name back then.” Yu Kunian’s memories of high school were blurred; she only remembered the person was an Omega. “We were friends of a sort, but we didn’t have much contact. I owe her a ‘thank you’.”
Song Wenzhi’s movement of biting the straw stopped. Her gaze toward the window faltered for a second, and her breath hitched because of Yu Kunian’s words. However, these reactions were very slight—so slight that Yu Kunian didn’t notice them at all.
As dusk faded, the sky darkened, and dim yellow lights flickered on inside the shop. Song Wenzhi saw her own reflection in the glass window, looking somewhat distracted. Yu Kunian’s words seemed to be just a casual remark; she didn’t wait for Song Wenzhi to speak again but instead softly called the Omega’s name.
Only then did Song Wenzhi turn back, unexpectedly meeting Yu Kunian’s serious gaze and seeing her hand held out in front of her. “What is it?”
Yu Kunian said, “Today’s little surprise. Although I missed the morning, it’s not too late now.”
With that, Yu Kunian’s fingers slowly uncurled. In her palm lay a keychain with a small, knitted purple grape—delicate and exquisite. Song Wenzhi thought of the hairpin; because she had been angry yesterday, she had put it in the cabinet and forgotten to wear it today. Yu Kunian must have noticed.
Song Wenzhi took the keychain. Just as she was about to speak, Yu Kunian interrupted: “Is Teacher Song free tonight?”
Seeing Yu Kunian’s rising smile, Song Wenzhi nodded. She then heard Yu Kunian continue: “Then could you give me a chance to make it up to you? For yesterday.” Song Wenzhi hadn’t said she forgave her yet, and she wasn’t even wearing the hairpin.
Song Wenzhi did not refuse: “Alright.”
“Do you like concerts, Teacher Song? I heard there’s one tonight.” Before coming, Yu Kunian had checked things out. There weren’t any good movies playing recently, and entertainment options in Yin City were limited; the theater in the city center was Yu Kunian’s only real choice.
Song Wenzhi stiffened almost imperceptibly. “It’s been a long time since I listened to one.”
“You play the piano so well, Teacher Song, so I thought you might like it. If you’re willing, I’ll book the tickets now. They shouldn’t be sold out yet.”
Yu Kunian took out her phone to check the concert schedule. Concerts in Yin City were rarely full, so buying tickets half an hour before the show was feasible.
Song Wenzhi hesitated for a moment, a complex emotion flitting through her eyes, but in the next second, she nodded as if nothing were wrong: “Okay.”
Yu Kunian quickly bought the tickets. The theater wasn’t far from the restaurant. Having finished her meal, Yu Kunian swiftly settled the bill and left with Song Wenzhi. The sky had turned completely dark, and the hustle and bustle of pedestrians made the streets noisy. Song Wenzhi’s gaze lingered on Yu Kunian’s booking interface, and she spoke up, saying she wanted to choose the seats.
The front seats of the theater were not full, but Song Wenzhi chose seats in the back row against the wall where the lights couldn’t fully reach. It was somewhat dim there, and half of Song Wenzhi’s figure was shrouded in shadow, making it difficult to read her emotions.
Yu Kunian naturally sensed something was strange, but since Song Wenzhi didn’t speak, she couldn’t very well ask. She pretended not to notice and looked toward the stage. The skill level of the performers in Yin City wasn’t exceptionally high, but they were professionals, so there wouldn’t be any major disasters.
As the performers took their places, Song Wenzhi’s gaze remained fixed in a certain direction for a long time. Unconsciously, her fingertips gripped tightly until they turned white. Yu Kunian had been quietly watching Song Wenzhi’s movements and immediately leaned in to speak: “Teacher Song, is it a bit stuffy in here? There are many Alphas around. If you feel uncomfortable, we can leave at any time.”
Song Wenzhi relaxed her grip. She looked at Yu Kunian and seemed much calmer. “It’s fine. I’m wearing a scent blocker.”
However, her complexion was somewhat unusual. Yu Kunian wanted to say more, but the music had already begun, so she held her words back and only watched Song Wenzhi’s emotions out of the corner of her eye. Yu Kunian began to wonder if this concert invitation had been a mistake. She had assumed that because Song Wenzhi played the piano so well, she would enjoy listening to a concert, but now Song Wenzhi clearly seemed strangely tense.
Yu Kunian couldn’t figure out why. She followed Song Wenzhi’s gaze several times but didn’t notice anything out of the ordinary. Just as Yu Kunian thought Song Wenzhi might be dissatisfied with the orchestra, she suddenly caught sight of the woman playing the piano on stage.
Yu Kunian was certain she wasn’t mistaken; her eyesight had always been excellent. The woman on stage bore a resemblance to Song Wenzhi. The Alpha seemed to realize something instantly, but it still didn’t solve the mystery for her. When the concert ended, Song Wenzhi sat in her seat for a long time without moving. The orchestra had dispersed, and the stage was empty. Yu Kunian leaned closer and asked, “Teacher Song, what’s wrong?”
“President Yu.” Song Wenzhi seemed to snap out of it. “Can you wait for me outside the theater? I have something to take care of; it won’t take long.”
Yu Kunian nodded. “Okay, take your time.”
Yu Kunian thought it would take at least ten minutes, but she only waited at the theater entrance for about three minutes before Song Wenzhi walked out. With a normal expression, she said to her, “President Yu, let’s go.”
Yu Kunian opened her mouth but didn’t say anything. She realized Song Wenzhi didn’t want to go back to the hotel immediately, so they wandered aimlessly to a nearby lake.
This lake was one of the famous landmarks in Yin City, and there was a constant stream of people at night. They found a spot on the steps by the lake and sat down. Song Wenzhi didn’t speak; she looked up at the dark sky and only said much later, “President Yu, thank you.”
This word of thanks was unexpected. Yu Kunian was stunned for a moment before turning her head to ask, “Thank me for what?”
The night breeze brushed Song Wenzhi’s hair. A moment of silence lingered between them. The Omega’s emotions had been off since earlier. In response to Yu Kunian’s confusion, she asked a question instead: “Why did President Yu choose me?”
Just as she had thought before, she wasn’t Yu Kunian’s best choice, and she didn’t have to be Yu Kunian’s choice at all.
Yu Kunian met her eyes, her concerned gaze gaining a hint of a smile. Without thinking for long, the Alpha spoke: “Why wouldn’t I, Teacher Song?”
“Hmm?”
“To me, Teacher Song, you are not a choice made by weighing pros and cons, but the direction of my heart. From our first meeting in the piano room, your figure has been stuck in my mind. Later, when I heard about the lecture from Director Qin… because you were there, I went to participate too.”
Why wouldn’t I?
No one can refuse Song Wenzhi, the Alpha thought.
Even if there were countless choices before her, her gaze would only ever stop on Song Wenzhi. There was no reason for it; it was simply following her own primary desire.
Yu Kunian paused, then suddenly looked up at the dark sky above them and added: “If Teacher Song is the bright moon, I want to be the star by your side.” Walking side by side, accompanying each other.
Following Yu Kunian’s raised hand, the moon hung high in the sky, its light spilling onto the lake. The stars were like glimmers of light in the water, flickering amidst the ripples. Song Wenzhi didn’t speak, but after withdrawing her gaze, she looked at Yu Kunian again. The Alpha’s face was bright with a smile; the Omega’s hand brushed against the knitted grape on the keychain.
Song Wenzhi had never been this calm. The wind blowing from the lake made her consciousness even clearer. She realized her heart was beating faster.
“Will the star ever stand the moon up?” Song Wenzhi didn’t look at Yu Kunian as she asked this.
Yu Kunian seemed taken aback but quickly replied seriously: “Only that one time. There will never be a next time. I promise the moon.”
Song Wenzhi smiled, but she deliberately turned her head away, not letting Yu Kunian see her ragged breathing or the slight redness at the corners of her eyes.
“What if there’s an accident?”
“There won’t be, and I will never allow there to be one again.”
“Will President Yu lie to me again?”
“No.”
What Song Wenzhi hated most was being deceived. With Yu Kunian’s arrival, the possibility of deception had greatly increased. Song Wenzhi was instinctively wary, yet she couldn’t deny that she didn’t resist Yu Kunian’s closeness.
“Do you want me to be your Omega?”
She implicitly confirmed with Yu Kunian once more that this relationship was not a pastime and that she was in Yu Kunian’s future. Song Wenzhi worried that this version of herself would annoy Yu Kunian, as she constantly needed the Alpha to fill her bottomless need for security. But Yu Kunian only leaned a bit closer to her and said:
“Yes, I do. Teacher Song, you are the one—Yu Kunian’s only one.”
Every word was clear, as if striking Song Wenzhi’s heart, making the Omega feel a deafening resonance. Song Wenzhi lowered her head, a smile curving her lips. She finally turned to look at Yu Kunian, her voice steady as usual:
“President Yu, I forgive you.”
