The Pursuit of Love After Divorcing My Cold Omega - Chapter 12
Yu Kunian was telling the truth; she didn’t want any other Alpha coveting Song Wenzhi. Whether it was an Alpha with the heart of a thief but no courage, or one who had already been rejected—she wouldn’t allow it. The more people at Lihua University who knew, the better. That way, once they realized she was pursuing Song Wenzhi, the number of Alphas brave enough to provoke Song Wenzhi would dwindle to nearly zero.
Song Wenzhi was momentarily stunned. Perhaps she hadn’t expected Yu Kunian to be so blunt, nor had she anticipated her thinking this way. Upon hearing those words, she found herself at a loss for speech for a moment.
However, Yu Kunian’s predatory gaze seemed to wrap around her. Though Yu Kunian was still smiling, and the corners of her eyes were upturned with their usual playfulness, one could not ignore the forceful aura she radiated. The possessiveness of an Alpha was on full display at this moment, as if she wanted to swallow the Omega whole and claim her entirely as her own.
Song Wenzhi deliberately averted her gaze and gave a light cough. “President Yu…”
Yu Kunian remained composed. Watching Song Wenzhi’s series of reactions, her heart felt a slight itch, and a smile couldn’t help but overflow from the depths of her eyes. Resting her chin on her hand, she asked, “Does my behavior like this make you feel afraid, Teacher Song?”
Song Wenzhi lowered her head and unconsciously bit down on the straw of her soy milk. Hearing the question, her eyelashes trembled slightly, but she didn’t answer immediately; she simply didn’t look up again. Yu Kunian waited quietly for her to speak; her gaze fixed on her the entire time. Watching the strands of hair fall over her shoulders and watching her blink in thought, a phrase surfaced in Yu Kunian’s mind: Quietly passing years.
Just as that cup of soy milk was finished, the Alpha suddenly heard the Omega speak softly: “Yu Kunian.”
This unexpected sentence made Yu Kunian freeze for a split second. Her gaze stayed fixed on Song Wenzhi’s brow. The Alpha felt as if an electric current had surged through her body, bringing an indescribable collision to her heart. This was the first time she had heard Song Wenzhi call her by her name. She had never realized that when someone called out to her like this, the voice could be so gentle.
It felt like a spring of water brushing past, sending ripples dancing across her heart, making her instinctively want to cradle it carefully. Yu Kunian felt that the way Song Wenzhi said her name sounded better than any sweet talk.
Their gazes met once more. Yu Kunian’s breath hitched before she said, “Teacher Song, go ahead.”
“Like this, would you be afraid of me?” Song Wenzhi seemed to intentionally add a hint of “fierceness” to her tone before continuing her question.
Yu Kunian laughed. “No.”
Song Wenzhi said, “Me neither.” She had answered the question from moments ago.
She could allow Yu Kunian to be the person who intimidated other Alphas—not because she worried about being disturbed by them, but because she wanted to.
She wanted Yu Kunian to stand by her side and be her Alpha.
Yu Kunian’s eyes crinkled into a smile, and she nodded. “I understand.” Having said that, she secretly savored the sound of Song Wenzhi calling her name in her mind. She couldn’t help but add: “Teacher Song, I…” But she hesitated, feeling she was being strange, and couldn’t finish the sentence.
Song Wenzhi looked at her. “What is it, President Yu?”
The pronunciation of those last two words was exceptionally clear. Song Wenzhi seemed to be doing it on purpose, yet her expression remained unchanged, as if she hadn’t noticed. Yu Kunian found she simply couldn’t voice the request for Song Wenzhi to say her name again, so she just shook her head and said “It’s nothing.”
Song Wenzhi lowered her eyes, a trace of an undetectable smile flickering in her gaze.
A moment later, Song Wenzhi stood up. “President Yu, it’s time for us to go.”
Whether it was an illusion or not, the words “President Yu” were spoken very clearly this time as well.
They both happened to be free this morning. Song Wenzhi had sent a message to Yu Kunian the night before, saying they would go to the library today. Some of the relevant tutoring books were held in the college library’s collection, so Song Wenzhi decided to take Yu Kunian there to consult the materials.
To avoid disturbing other students, Song Wenzhi took Yu Kunian to the outer lobby on the second floor after borrowing the books. There were vacant desks there, and the two of them sat side by side, quickly beginning the day’s lesson.
Song Wenzhi had organized the lesson plan in great detail. She lowered her voice and leaned in close to Yu Kunian. Their distance was no longer what it usually was; the Omega’s warm breath brushed lightly against Yu Kunian’s neck. Yu Kunian found it impossible to remain calm and fully concentrated.
Consequently, she earned the “honor” of having the back of her hand lightly tapped by Song Wenzhi’s pen. The Omega said, “President Yu, listen seriously.”
Yu Kunian looked up. Song Wenzhi looked stern, exactly like the “Teacher Song” who usually stood at the podium. She instinctively curled her lips into a smile. After an “Mhm,” she said, “Alright, Teacher.”
Song Wenzhi scolded her again with zero actual threat: “If you zone out again, then… then I’ll punish President Yu by making her do transcription.”
“I definitely won’t anymore, Teacher.” Yu Kunian shook her head, looking as if she were truly frightened by her, yet the smile in her eyes was about to overflow.
But in the end, Yu Kunian still ended up doing the transcription. Ever since graduating from university, she rarely wrote by hand. She hadn’t expected to be punished with transcription today and felt a bit helpless for a moment. Meanwhile, Song Wenzhi had been called away by an urgent phone call, expecting to be back in about an hour. Thus, this became Yu Kunian’s exclusive transcription time.
Song Wenzhi wasn’t worried about her being lazy. After Yu Kunian finished the writing, she proactively took a photo and sent it over. Song Wenzhi replied that she still couldn’t get away for the moment and told her to keep reading. However, without Song Wenzhi by her side, Yu Kunian lost interest. It was as if she had developed a reading disability; she couldn’t take in the words on the page at all, her mind repeatedly filled with Song Wenzhi’s figure.
The notification sound of a message rang on her phone. Yu Kunian thought it was Song Wenzhi, but after opening it, she found it was from Yu Dai. The content was very brief: Yu Dai was ordering her to meet the Omega daughter of another business group. The tone was still commanding, and it included the usual reprimand not to be “willful.”
Because her last name was Yu, every arrangement had to follow Yu Dai’s will. In the past, Yu Kunian never had the chance to choose; her life’s trajectory was predetermined. If she didn’t follow Yu Dai’s arrangements, she would be subjected to relentless scolding and punishment. Yu Dai had plenty of ways to make her bow her head. Yu Kunian had even wondered if she was truly the child of Yu Dai and Yang Jin—her emotions never seemed to matter.
Her originally pleasant mood turned gloomy the instant she saw the message. Yu Kunian lowered her eyes, which seemed to be clouded by rolling dark vapors, and her surrounding aura dropped significantly. In this state, she was even less able to read. Yu Kunian simply left her seat and went to the sofa next to the lobby. She exhaled a breath of turbid air and tilted her head back against the sofa cushions, her face looking weary.
Her vision grew somewhat out of focus. After a long silence, Yu Kunian eventually closed her eyes. Her brow remained tightly knit, and the glasses perched on her nose slipped down slightly, but she didn’t have the heart to care.
The library was too quiet, making the chaos in her heart feel amplified; even her own breathing became crystal clear. After an unknown amount of time, she suddenly heard the sound of familiar footsteps approaching.
Yu Kunian remembered Song Wenzhi’s footsteps. She could clearly distinguish which sounds belonged to Song Wenzhi. The moment she sensed her, the irritation that had been surrounding her seemed to strangely diminish a few degrees. Yu Kunian didn’t open her eyes; she looked as though she were napping on the sofa, perhaps even caught in a dream.
When Song Wenzhi walked up the steps, this was the scene she saw.
She approached quietly and finally stopped in front of Yu Kunian. She looked down; the Alpha’s brow still held onto traces of exhaustion. Song Wenzhi instinctively reached out her hand, but very quickly, her fingertips paused in mid-air. The Omega suddenly snapped back to her senses. What was she trying to do?
—She wanted to smooth out Yu Kunian’s brow. She wanted to touch the Alpha’s cheek.
Song Wenzhi even leaned forward toward Yu Kunian, nearly level with her. Her hand was less than half a finger’s width away from Yu Kunian’s brow. The surroundings were so quiet there was no sound at all. Song Wenzhi could hear her own heartbeat. She pursed her lips and curled her fingers back, yet she involuntarily stepped closer.
The Alpha hadn’t moved. Song Wenzhi figured she must be asleep, so she suddenly mustered a bit of courage and reached out again. Only this time, her target wasn’t the space between the Alpha’s brows, but the pair of glasses that were somewhat hindering Yu Kunian’s rest.
Song Wenzhi grasped the frames.
Song Wenzhi’s hand was caught.
Only a second had passed. Song Wenzhi looked up in surprise and met Yu Kunian’s gaze. The amber eyes were dark and unreadable. The previous irritation hadn’t yet dissipated; her gaze was somewhat sharp, stripped of her usual approachable manner.
Such an unfamiliar expression made Song Wenzhi forget to pull her hand back. She just stared blankly at Yu Kunian until Yu Kunian seemed to regain her senses. The emotions in her eyes gradually hid away, and Yu Kunian smiled again, her expression returning to normal. She said, “Teacher Song.”
Song Wenzhi frowned. Her gaze lingered on Yu Kunian’s face and then stayed on Yu Kunian’s hand, which showed no intention of letting go. She didn’t speak, but the hair on her shoulders slowly fell, brushing against the back of Yu Kunian’s hand, as if the Omega were offering comfort in her stead.
The air seemed to freeze in this instant. An itch grew in Yu Kunian’s heart. She looked at Song Wenzhi; the Omega’s gaze was gentle, making her forget her weariness and allowing her to ignore all her troubles. They weren’t leaning very close, yet the Alpha’s scent enveloped the Omega’s surroundings, making it more intimate than any moment before.
Yu Kunian’s palm was very hot, making Song Wenzhi’s wrist feel scorched as well. Song Wenzhi said, “President Yu.”
Yu Kunian lowered her eyes. It seemed as if the bitterness in her heart could no longer be hidden, and her voice sank along with it: “Teacher Song.”
Song Wenzhi gave an “Mhm.” Just as she was about to ask something, she was interrupted by Yu Kunian: “Sorry, I’m a bit tired.”
“It’s okay, President Yu,” Song Wenzhi answered quickly. Not knowing how to say the words of comfort she wanted to offer, she could only lean a few inches closer to Yu Kunian. “You can rest whenever you need.”
“Thank you,” Yu Kunian said. After finishing, she intentionally pulled Song Wenzhi a bit closer to her. Giving an inch and taking a mile, she asked, “Can you comfort me a little?”
