The Protagonist 'Gong' Became my Wife - Chapter 4
Chapter 4: The Light of the Empire
Jiang Yanning had not dreamed for a long time.
He actually saw himself transformed into a star, hanging high in the pitch-black night sky. There were very few stars around him; some were bright, some were dim. He struggled with all his might, crashing toward the star closest to him.
He saw a magnificent palace. It seemed a banquet had just finished here. The light screen on the wall was still scrolling a line of large red characters: “Light of the Empire” Coming-of-Age Ceremony.
It should have been a happy day, but the atmosphere on the scene was exceptionally heavy. An exquisite and tall youth seemed to have dressed up seriously, still wearing a magnificent formal suit. Even though his head was pointed at by all kinds of artillery shells, his gaze remained calm, as if he didn’t know what he was about to encounter.
Among the dense clusters of mecha, fragmented voices drifted out. “Heh, our ‘Light of the Empire’ really hides it deep! Too bad, you still can’t escape our palms.” Another deeper voice said: “It would be a pity to kill such a masterpiece. Why not…” “If you ask me, send him directly to my place. After a period of training, I guarantee he’ll become obedient!” “No, no…”
They talked to themselves as if they were discussing a dish rather than a living person. Before long, the youth suddenly moved. He slowly squatted down, seemingly to show submission. In reality, he slowly pulled out a photon gun from his boot. Lifting his head again, a mocking smile curled at the corner of his mouth.
He seemed to pull the trigger three times at random, yet accurately hit the cores of three mecha. The three people who were most active in the discussion just now were thrown out of their cockpits. Then, three more shots; the three people lost their lives. The movements of the youth’s hands did not stop; clearly in a weak position, he did not show a trace of panic.
“Perhaps you all have a misunderstanding of your own self-awareness. What I mean is, even though you are like light-shunning rats who only dare to hide in mecha to speak to me, you still won’t win against me.”
As more and more mecha were shot down, the people in mid-air suddenly panicked. “Wh-what are you afraid of! He’s just an Omega, we can blast him to death with one cannon shot right now!”
The youth turned his head, accurately finding the mecha that spoke. “Why don’t you… give it a try?”
The movement of the hand was already faster than the brain; by the time the person regained their senses, their finger had already pressed down. But the youth flexibly dodged it and pointed the gun barrel at him. He panicked, slapping buttons haphazardly.
“Don’t!” “Stop quickly!” The companions were trying to stop him.
But it was already too late. A huge amount of explosives had long been buried beneath the entire banquet hall, and now they were triggered all at once. Fire rose everywhere, and the building collapsed instantly. It buried not only the descendants of most of the Empire’s powerful elite but also the son of the Duke who was hailed as the Light of the Empire Gu Zhuo.
…
“No, don’t!”
Jiang Yanning struggled to wake from his dream. Piercing sunlight squeezed through the gap in the curtains, leaping onto his face. For a good while, he finally regained his senses.
It turned out to be a dream. His gaze had followed the youth in the dream the whole time, as if he had experienced it personally. The pain of being blown apart could still be recalled now. He just didn’t know what that youth looked like…
After resting for a long time, Jiang Yanning finally climbed up sluggishly and walked to the bathroom. While brushing his teeth, looking at himself in the mirror whose face was somewhat pale because of the dream he was suddenly amused. He was almost thirty years old; how could he still have such a “middle-school-syndrome” dream about interstellar wars? This was too embarrassing.
He made up his mind to throw all of this to the back of his head. After washing up, he dragged his slippers and walked downstairs. A simple and refreshing breakfast was already set on the dining table. Before he could start, the front door was suddenly knocked.
Strange, didn’t he give Assistant Zhou a half-day off? Why was he here now? When he pulled open the door, Jiang Yanning’s mouth twitched, and he turned his foot to leave. He was unwilling to believe that the shirtless pervert on the ground was his brother.
Jiang You’an, however, cried and hugged his leg, crying with a nose full of snot and eyes full of tears. “Brother! You have to help me get revenge, Brother! Your brother… I was defiled by someone!”
Jiang Yanning dragged the giant human-shaped pendant into the dining room, not forgetting to mock him coldly. “Just like you? Who could take an interest in you?”
Jiang You’an hugged himself helplessly. “Wuwuwu, I don’t know, Brother! I woke up and my shirt had been stripped off, lying at your front door. My phone wasn’t on me, and I knocked on the door for a long time but no one answered me, wuwu…”
Jiang Yanning had a headache from his noise. He casually picked up the blanket on the sofa and threw it to him. “I drank wine last night and slept too deeply; I didn’t hear. You’d better shut up now. Go upstairs first, take a shower, change your clothes, and then come down to eat breakfast.”
Jiang You’an wiped his tears aggrievedly and went upstairs wrapped in a blanket. By the time he finished showering, Jiang Yanning had already made a bowl of noodles for him, with a golden poached egg resting on top. Looking at the plain white porridge and side dishes across from him, Jiang You’an felt a bit bad.
“Brother, how about we swap? I’ll just have the porridge.” Jiang Yanning put down his spoon; the porcelain collided with the bowl wall, making a crisp sound. “Eat if you want, if not, get out!” Jiang You’an immediately stuffed a large mouthful of noodles into his mouth, not daring to say another word.
After he finished eating, Jiang Yanning had already checked the surveillance at the door. It clearly showed that Jiang You’an had stripped off his own vomit-stained clothes, threw them into the roadside trash can, and then groggily crawled to the front door of Jiang Yanning’s house and fell fast asleep. Over the course of the whole night, he turned over eight times, farted six times, scratched his butt three times, and incidentally bumped his head once.
“Now, what else do you have to say?” Jiang You’an covered his face in shame. His flamboyant yellow hair drooped down, and he let out a weak exclamation of praise. “Brother, your door surveillance even has audio recording; it’s really high-tech.”
Jiang Yanning took a deep breath and then slowly exhaled, deciding not to argue with an idiot. “It’s just as well that you’re here. Follow me to the company to work today; learn as much as you can.” “Not going. I’m not interested in those things. How about this, Brother: I’ll trick the old man’s shares away and transfer them to you. You just give me some dividends in the future, okay?”
Jiang You’an recognized that he wasn’t business material. Unfortunately, the old man at home always felt his brain was useless because his attitude wasn’t serious. Hearing that the old man planned to use family affection as a chip to coerce Jiang Yanning into developing the company for him, and then wanting him to give it to Jiang You’an without regret in the future how could there be such a good thing!
Jiang You’an was the first to disagree; he thought his idea just now was great. But the first to break his fantasy was Jiang Yanning. “No, I don’t need it. What I want, I will strive for myself. As for you, go to the company with me. No discussion.”
Having finalized the afternoon plan, Jiang Yanning quickly pulled out his laptop and put on plain glasses, intending to handle some company matters online. His company abroad was now planning to enter the domestic market; there were quite a lot of things to be busy with.
Jiang You’an gave a bored yawn, went to the trash can at the door to fish out the phone he threw in last night, wiped it casually, and clicked on the message interface with a certain someone. “Buddy, thanks! You specifically sent me home last night. By the way, how did you get back afterward?”
On the other end of the phone, Gu Zhuo, who was sitting upright in class listening to a lecture, had a somewhat strange expression. 77, you deal with the good friend you made. 77, who was napping on his shoulder, asked groggily, Who? Who is my good friend? Gu Zhuo watched the blackboard while spitting out three words. Jiang You’an.
77 finally reacted and manipulated Gu Zhuo’s phone to reply. Flew back, of course!
Jiang You’an on the opposite side didn’t suspect a thing. “Seven-ge, you really know how to joke! By the way, Seven-ge, since there’s time now, let’s get on with the game. I’ll introduce a few good friends to you.”
77 didn’t agree immediately; instead, it observed Gu Zhuo’s expression. Seeing he didn’t object, it then happily manipulated the phone and logged into the game interface. After last night, it had deeply fallen in love with this feeling of “slaughtering noobs”!
After seeing Jiang You’an at Twilight, Gu Zhuo did as he said, sitting near Jiang You’an with a drink. Observing him, seeing he couldn’t pass the level after playing the game for half an hour, Gu Zhuo made a decision in his heart. He also downloaded a game software to his own phone.
77, can you play games? 77 shook its head honestly. Never played. Host, you don’t know how? Gu Zhuo knitted his brows. It’s not that I haven’t played; I just haven’t played something so low-end. He usually played with a holographic helmet or lying in a game pod. He hadn’t tried this kind where you tap with fingers.
Opening the game interface, the person and the system studied this low-level device for over ten minutes; the first round was a miserable defeat. Gu Zhuo was incredulous, refused to believe in bad luck, and clicked to start the game again.
“Move a bit to the right, right, right, hit him!” “There’s another one here!” “There’s equipment here, pick it up quickly. Someone’s coming, hide quickly.”
At some point, Jiang You’an had leaned over, very familiarly directing Gu Zhuo in playing the game. The second round was a narrow victory. After this round, Gu Zhuo roughly got a feel for it, and 77 even calculated many ways to win.
Jiang You’an spoke up proactively. “First time playing? Come, add me as a friend, we’ll team up, Big Bro will teach you!”
Gu Zhuo didn’t refuse and, after discussing with 77, left the control to 77. After a few rounds, Jiang You’an covered his face, feeling it was a bit painful (from the metaphorical slap). He immediately wanted to kneel and beg Gu Zhuo to take him as a disciple. “Big Boss, what’s your name?” “Big Boss, one more round, carry me!” “Big Boss…”
Gu Zhuo was annoyed by the disturbance and adjusted the pure black mask on his face. His thin lips opened slightly, and he used words as if they were gold. “Just call me Seven-ge.”
Jiang You’an hugged his thigh. “Seven-ge! Please take me as your disciple!”
77 in the air flew around shyly, finally landing on Gu Zhuo’s shoulder and covering itself with its wings. Oh my! Am I really this amazing? I’m quite embarrassed. Are you going to agree or not? Don’t forget our purpose. I know, I know, Host! I’ll play two more rounds!
In this way, Jiang You’an was completely won over by “Gu Zhuo’s” skills and trusted him immensely. He drank glass after glass until he passed out. Gu Zhuo dragged him into the car, searched his person and then scanned him, excluding Jiang You’an from suspicion.
Only, when being sent near Jiang Yanning’s house, Jiang You’an suddenly vomited. Gu Zhuo stripped off his clothes with a cold face, tossed the person at the doorway, and left directly. 77 dutifully handled the surveillance.
So, Jiang You’an who was now calling out “Seven-ge” exceptionally cheerfully did not know. The ones who caused his miserable state last night were this person and system.
