- Chapter 8 - Exuding a Sweet and Greed-Inducing Fragrance.
Su Xi hesitated on how to bring it up. Seeing him approach, Fu Heng sat down, poured a cup of tea, and spoke with calm eyes: “Sit.”
“…” Su Xi remained silent for two seconds before sitting across from him.
Fu Heng took a sip of tea. It was sweet and refreshing. He naturally poured a cup for Su Xi and pushed it toward him.
“I don’t like tea,” Su Xi refused bluntly. “What did you want to talk about?”
“Did you see the message I sent you last time?” Fu Heng wasn’t bothered by the rejection. He continued drinking, his cold eyes devoid of emotion.
Su Xi’s guard gradually lowered. “I saw it. Don’t send messages like that again; it causes misunderstandings.”
(OMG! Host, no, no! At this plot point, you’re supposed to accept him!) System 1368 suddenly intervened.
“It’s fine, don’t I have three chances to ignore the rules?” Su Xi replied. Suddenly, a notification about the Salvation Value increasing rang in his head. He raised an eyebrow. “System, is Duan Cheng eavesdropping outside?”
(No, he installed a monitor on your communicator,)1368 answered simply.
“When Jiang Wenyan told me, I didn’t believe it,” Fu Heng spoke up. “Su Xi, didn’t you hate him the most before? But… I won’t make things difficult for you.”
Fu Heng pulled a brooch from his pocke, a pink-white lychee rose design. The pink gemstone shimmered under the light. “Returning this to its original owner.”
“Mhm, thanks.” Su Xi took the brooch and tucked it into his inner pocket. This was a gift he had once given Fu Heng, intended for a “future boyfriend.” Now, Fu Heng was returning it quite readily.
As expected of the perfect protagonist, never breaking character and full of ‘greater love.’
Su Xi stood up to leave, but his vision suddenly darkened. A thick, intoxicatingly sweet fruit fragrance filled the air, making his head spin. He bit his lip to stay conscious, but his body swayed uncontrollably. He collapsed onto the cold floor, his logic dissolving into chaos. He stared at Fu Heng, his voice involuntarily soft: “You… you drugged me…”
“I’m sorry.” Though Fu Heng said the words, there was no apology in his tone. He pushed up his gold-rimmed glasses and walked over to help Su Xi up.
Su Xi was powerless, allowing himself to be half-carried to a soft couch. He felt like his bones were on fire. Even if he were an idiot, he knew what kind of “drug” Fu Heng had used. He panicked, calling for the system, but 1368 had vanished without a trace.
In desperation, Su Xi tried to reason: “Fu Heng, let’s talk this out properly.”
Fu Heng loosened his tie. “I don’t want to listen.”
Wait, does the Protagonist Gong also force people into things? Su Xi thought frantically. And wasn’t I just his ‘lick-dog’? Do lick-dogs actually get their happy ending like this?
He tried to scramble back, but Fu Heng caught his ankle and pulled him back. His reason was swallowed by a stretching white void.
CRASH
The door to the lounge was kicked open. Su Xi used his last ounce of strength to push Fu Heng off, stumbling toward the door. He nearly tripped, but the expected impact with the floor never came.
He was pulled into a warm, firm embrace. A familiar voice whispered in his ear: “Don’t be afraid.”
“Duan Cheng…” Su Xi sobbed, his voice raspy.
Hearing his voice, Duan Cheng felt as if an invisible hand was squeezing his heart. He patted Su Xi’s back and glared at the calm Fu Heng, his dark eyes filled with gloom.
Back at the dorm, Su Xi’s body continued to tremble. The “medicine” was still wrecking his system. He clutched Duan Cheng’s clothes like a frightened animal.
“Don’t go…” he bit his lip.
Duan Cheng sighed almost inaudibly. He propped Su Xi up against a pillow and handed him a bottle of water. “Your state is wrong. I’m going to get you a suppressant.”
Su Xi was currently exuding a mixture of sweet fruit and rich orchid scents. Even with the blocking patch, the intoxicating aroma was inescapable.
“I don’t want it…” Su Xi knocked the water bottle away, soaking himself. He grabbed Duan Cheng’s hand and rubbed it against his cheek, his voice full of allure: “Help me, okay?”
Duan Cheng froze. Su Xi looked up at him with eyes full of humble pleading and watery hope. Duan Cheng tried to pull his hand away, but Su Xi held on with surprising strength.
Su Xi’s face was flushed, his breath hot. He began pulling at his clothes, his blocking patch already soaked with sweat. Seeing Duan Cheng remain unmoved, he nearly burst into tears.
By the time Duan Cheng returned with a towel and the proper medicine, Su Xi’s consciousness was blurry. Duan Cheng sat beside him, touching his face, it was burning hot. As he used a damp towel to wipe Su Xi down, his fingers accidentally brushed the sensitive gland, making the youth shiver violently.
“Do you… really like me…?”
In his daze, Su Xi heard a whisper. He leaned closer, and the name he was murmuring was Duan Cheng.
“Do you really love me that much?” In this state, Su Xi couldn’t be lying. Duan Cheng’s gaze darkened as his calloused fingers brushed Su Xi’s tender red lips.
Su Xi unconsciously licked the man’s fingertip, whimpering in distress. He felt like a lonely boat on a vast ocean, finally finding a harbor. Sharp teeth pierced his delicate skin, and a cool fragrance was injected into his system.
When Su Xi woke up the next afternoon, he felt like he’d been run over by a truck. He pushed himself up and poured a glass of water.
“Tonz, where’s Duan Cheng?” His memories of yesterday were hazy, but he noticed the Salvation Value had jumped to 50.
(Host! I was pulled away for a forced update yesterday. Thank God Duan Cheng arrived! Don’t worry, he’s just out at classes right now.)
“Doesn’t he like me enough? Leaving me alone to go to class,” Su Xi grumbled.
He was wearing a new, oversized shirt, obviously Duan Cheng’s. After tidying up, he decided to go find food and perhaps run into the villain.
The school was quiet since classes were in session. Su Xi headed toward a shaded area to catch the breeze. Before he reached the bench, he heard a commotion behind the trees, the sound of leaves rustling and an argument. There was even the sound of a scuffle.
“What did I tell you last time…” A voice cut off abruptly.
Su Xi looked at the plastic shard at his feet and sighed. He tried to walk away, but his path was blocked.
“A-Xi.” It was Jiang Wenyan.
Su Xi looked up at him, then glanced behind the trees. Jiang Wenyan’s eyes landed on Su Xi’s neck, even with the patch, the red mark was visible.
“Why are you here?” Jiang Wenyan asked, his sharp eyes lingering.
“I was bored and wanted a walk,” Su Xi replied, moving into the shade.
“I’ll go with you.” Jiang Wenyan looked like he’d just come from the training base; his red hair was damp with sweat. He naturally fell in line beside Su Xi.
They walked to the south side of the campus, near the high-tech laboratories, Fu Heng’s usual haunt. Su Xi leaned against a tree, drinking iced soda, annoyed by the heat.
“Yesterday it was raining, today it’s scorching. What a mess…”
Jiang Wenyan fanned him with his hand. “Let’s go inside the lab to cool off.”
“No, let’s go back.” Su Xi shook his head. He didn’t want to run into Fu Heng, especially since he had used his “rule-breaker” chance yesterday. The side effect was that the next time he met someone, he would turn into a “brain-dead lick-dog” for a short period.
They ended up near the Training Base. A crowd had gathered in the lobby. Many Alphas began to sniff the air; they could smell the pheromones on Su Xi that clearly didn’t belong to him.
Feeling the strange stares, Su Xi grabbed Jiang Wenyan’s sleeve. “Why are they looking at me like that?”
