- Chapter 1 - Hostile Relations from the Start
In a desolate suburb, a brightly lit villa stood with an eerie silence. Only the room on the left side of the second floor remained pitch black, not allowing a single sliver of light to penetrate. A gentle breeze swayed the screen window, and the air was thick with a rich, intoxicating fragrance.
Under the hazy moonlight, one could vaguely see a youth lying on a soft bed. His skin was as pale as snow, his lips a deep crimson, and his long, curled eyelashes trembled slightly. His furrowed brows suggested that his dreams were far from peaceful. He wore an oversized shirt that draped loosely over his frame, with the top two buttons undone to reveal delicate collarbones and ivory skin. His legs were long and straight, but his ankles were bound by a golden chain adorned with small bells.
A fragile beauty imprisoned in the dark, unable to save himself, possessing a charm enough to drive anyone to madness he was breathtakingly beautiful.
Su Xi moved his fingers, but his body was so weak he could barely exert any strength. After a moment, he forced himself up with his arms and leaned against the cold wall, staring silently at the door that separated him from the outside world.
Just a short while ago, he had gone out to pick up a food delivery, only to be drugged and locked in this sealed room. The captor claimed to be a loyal fan and had treated him wantonly. The day-and-night demands had brought Su Xi’s fragile mental state to the brink of collapse; every time he tried to escape and was caught, he was met with even more excessive demands.
He was so lost in thought that he didn’t hear the door open. A handsome man entered carrying a glass of milk. Seeing Su Xi awake, he wasn’t surprised. He closed the window unhurriedly; his tone laced with a hint of helplessness “Why did you open the window? Your constitution is weak; what if you catch a cold?”
Su Xi had developed an instinctual dread of the man’s presence. He instinctively pulled the quilt up to cover his body, his fingertips gripping the edge so hard they turned white. He lowered his eyelashes and remained silent.
“Why aren’t you speaking? I went too far last night, but it’s only because I like you too much.” The man set the glass on the bedside table, leaned over, and lifted Su Xi’s chin. Seeing the youth’s panic masked by forced calm, he chuckled softly. “You’re afraid of me.”
His sticky, undisguised gaze clung to Su Xi like a snake in a damp, dark place, making one’s skin crawl. Su Xi pursed his lips and didn’t answer. Flashes of the brutal treatment he had endured these past few days flickered through his mind. After a long while, as if surrendering, he leaned forward and kissed the man’s lips.
“The chain hurts me so much. Help me take it off, okay?”
“I promise, I’ll be very good.” To make his words more convincing, Su Xi paused and reached out to unbutton his shirt. A large expanse of crystalline skin looked even more alluring under the moonlight.
In the darkness, the man’s eyes turned red, and his breathing grew heavy. He pressed down on Su Xi’s hand, his expression full of longing: “Baby, you can only love me.”
Before Su Xi could answer, the man leaned down and kissed him. The heated kiss was filled with intense desire. Su Xi turned his head, letting the kiss fall on his fragile neck instead. He let out a faint whimper while his other hand fumbled under the pillow for a sharp glass shard. Once he grabbed it, he plunged it forcefully into the man’s neck.
Crimson, hot blood sprayed out, splattering across Su Xi’s face. His face went pale, and his hand shook as he held the shard. After a long moment, he pushed the man off him, fumbled for the key in the man’s pocket to unlock the chain, and bolted out the door.
In the vast, boundless forest, the noisy chirping of cicadas was unending. Su Xi ran barefoot, terrified that the man would catch up. The roadside was overgrown with weeds; he accidentally stumbled and fell clumsily to the ground, sharp gravel cutting his delicate skin.
He was nearly out of strength. Sweat dripped down his cheeks. Just as Su Xi felt despondent, thinking he wouldn’t escape, a cold mechanical voice rang in his ear.
(Hello, Host. It has been detected that you perfectly meet our requirements. Congratulations on binding with the Villain Salvation System. I am your exclusive system, 1368)
(World loading… I wish you a pleasant journey!)
The wide, quiet corridor was empty. At the corner, the half-open door of a restroom had a yellow “Under Maintenance” sign hanging on it. The noisy sounds coming from inside were cut off by the forceful slamming of the door.
The once-clean restroom was now filled with damp mist. Several men in school uniforms stood together, their faces filled with malice and anger. Their target was currently sprawled miserably on the floor, his face covered in prominent handprints, his body trembling uncontrollably.
“You? You aren’t even fit to carry Su Xi’s shoes, yet you dare to lust after him?” The leader, Jiang Wenyan, had flamboyant red hair. He spat on the ground and glared fiercely at the person on the floor.
A companion beside him gleefully lifted a bucket and splashed the water all over the victim. Malicious laughter instantly filled the space.
“Duan Cheng, you better check your status. Don’t go looking for him again.” Jiang Wenyan sneered, took a wet wipe from a friend to clean his fingers, and leaned down to whisper: “You’re just a Beta. Keep your tail between your legs and behave at this school.”
“Exactly. He is the most precious Omega in the Imperial Capital. You’re just a destitute brat; pack your things and get out.”
“It’s a miracle you didn’t die in the last mecha class. They say ‘vile people have long lives’ for a reason.”
“A piece of trash like this isn’t worth A-Xi coming here personally.”
At the mention of Su Xi, the group’s faces showed a look of infatuation and trance, as if they were addicted to a potent drug.
Bang! The restroom door was suddenly pushed open.
Jiang Wenyan, his fun interrupted, turned toward the door in a rage, only to meet a pair of watery eyes. The newcomer had fair skin, currently flushed pink from running too fast. His crimson lips were slightly parted as he panted, and a faint, ethereal fragrance began to waft through the room.
“What are you doing?” Su Xi’s brows knitted slightly. He hurried over to Duan Cheng. Seeing the man’s disheveled state, his eyes filled with a flash of helplessness.
Images flashed through his mind as his thoughts drifted.
He, Su Xi, was a popular entertainment streamer. He had millions of fans and received a flood of gifts every day just by chatting. However, in the time it took to pick up a food delivery, he had been dragged into a “little black room” imprisonment!
While escaping, he met System 1368, who said that if he completed the salvation missions, he could return to his original world unharmed and have three wishes granted.
What a joke. Let him save someone else?
He was the one who needed saving!
“A-Xi, why are you here?” The curse on Jiang Wenyan’s lips was swallowed back down. He immediately put on a smile and stepped forward to take Su Xi’s hand.
Su Xi frowned and dodged the touch. He walked over to Duan Cheng’s side and crouched down tentatively. Just as he reached out to help him up, his hand was swiped away by reflex. A crisp slapping sound echoed in the silent restroom. Su Xi staggered a few steps and fell clumsily to the floor, his hands getting wet from the dirty water.
“Ugh…” A stinging pain radiated from his wrist. He couldn’t help but cry out in pain.
Jiang Wenyan, who was watching Su Xi’s every move, rushed to help him up, ignoring the jealous glares of the others. Seeing the red marks on Su Xi’s wrist, his eyes filled with heartache. He pulled out a tissue and gently washed Su Xi’s hands before wiping them dry.
The others had already swarmed Duan Cheng after Jiang Wenyan helped Su Xi up, kicking and punching him. The dull thud of fists hitting bone became clearer, but the person on the ground endured it without a single sound.
Su Xi ignored the pain in his wrist and hurriedly called out to stop them: “Stop it! How childish can you be, dragging someone into the restroom to bully them?”
His tone was arrogant yet urgent. Clearly, this malicious “request” had been something the original Su Xi had casually suggested before, but the group wasn’t angry at being scolded. They nodded, smiled apologetically, and stopped. If anyone else had spoken to them like that, they’d be half-dead, but the person before them was Su Xi. Whatever he gave them, they accepted it gladly.
“I didn’t go out of character (OOC), did I?” Su Xi carefully observed the expressions of those around him. Their gazes were too familiar. He lowered his lashes and asked the system in his mind.
“No, Host is doing very well. The person being bullied just now is your mission target,” the system replied concisely.
Su Xi looked down. His mission was to save the villain, but it was early in the plot, and Duan Cheng the one he was constantly suppressing seemed far too weak.
“I send you messages and you don’t even reply. Don’t play with me anymore in the future.” Su Xi looked up and met Jiang Wenyan’s probing gaze. He feigned anger, pushed him away, and left those words behind.
He turned and walked out. The group was surprised and helpless, thinking to themselves that he probably sent the messages after blocking them again. They shrugged, exchanged looks, and immediately followed him out.
Once he was sure everyone had followed him out, Su Xi breathed a sigh of relief. But then he bumped into a warm chest. A crisp, cool scent entered his nose. He clutched his nose in pain and stepped back a few paces to see the man before him—extraordinary temperament, cold eyes.
A man born with a protagonist’s halo. At a glance, he was clearly the center of the world.
“Are you alright?” Fu Heng’s tone was calm, mixed with a hint of apology.
Jiang Wenyan, who had chased after Su Xi, saw this and hurried forward, but then remembered something and could only stand by silently, watching.
Su Xi’s face was pale from the pain. He rubbed his aching nose and shook his head: “I’m fine.”
“The chocolate you wanted last time, I happened to see it, so I got it for you.” Fu Heng pulled a box of chocolates from his bag and handed it to Su Xi.
“For me?” Su Xi blinked. He took the chocolate and gave the man a brilliant smile: “Thank you, you’re so kind.”
“System, look! Free chocolate.” On the way back, Su Xi shook the box, his expression full of joy. He thought to himself that it was no wonder the original host liked Fu Heng so much; who wouldn’t like a man who gives them chocolate?
The system didn’t know if it should speak up; was the host it bound to a bit of a simpleton? He was this happy over a box of chocolate.
Turning down the invitations from Jiang Wenyan and the others, Su Xi went back to his room to rest. The cozy room was filled with all sorts of novel gadgets. He leaned over, pulled a first-aid kit from the cabinet, and took out cotton swabs and medicinal alcohol to treat his wounds.
This world was different from his previous one. It was the Aristocratic Academy “Qingling” in a future interstellar setting. He had to learn various skills, including mecha piloting and close-quarters combat.
According to the system, every world had a protagonist and a villain. The protagonist was the “Child of Heaven” with a halo, and the villain was the most important supporting character who opposed the protagonist at every turn.
The protagonist of this world was Fu Heng, the one who just gave him chocolate. As for the villain… it was Duan Cheng, who was just being bullied in the restroom.
“I’m hopeless…” Su Xi realized that his current body’s constitution was about the same as his original one a delicate, “noob” physique. He could only lie flat and enjoy a “salted fish” life.
He whispered to himself: “I’ve bullied him so harshly already. Can I still gain favorability?”
“You can. Host, you are a one-in-a-million talent; you can definitely complete the mission perfectly,” 1368 encouraged him sincerely.
Su Xi threw the used cotton swab into the trash and sighed helplessly. “I’ll try my best.”
The priority was to figure out how to ease the relationship with Duan Cheng without going OOC while the original plot progressed. Right now, Duan Cheng probably wanted to skin him alive; Su Xi didn’t dare to just mindlessly stick to him.
“Do you have the villain’s data?” he asked 1368.
The system replied instantly: “Of course. Please wait, Host. Automatic transmission in three seconds.”
Father doesn’t love him, mother doesn’t care; abandoned after his family fell into ruin; entered Qingling to study alone with no one to rely on; a Beta who is despised by his “vicious” fiancé… What kind of “Hell Mode” buffs were these?
Su Xi pursed his lips in distress. He was the vicious fiancé mentioned in the data. He was the one who constantly made things difficult for Duan Cheng, calling him a useless Beta—the very fuse that would trigger the villain’s rapid growth in strength.
The point in the plot where Su Xi arrived was still the early stages. It happened to be the registration period for a special team-building activity at Qingling. After getting a registration form, he specifically went to find Duan Cheng.
The silence of the library vanished as soon as people heard he was coming. The sounds of noisy chatter were endless. Whether they were students studying seriously or those just loafing around, everyone became restless the moment they smelled that orchid fragrance.
“Hey, why is Su Xi here?”
“This is a library, be quiet. But wow, he really is good-looking,” someone marveled.
“Why is he here alone? What if he runs into danger? Those ‘stinky men’ from School A are all staring at him.”
Su Xi heard all the voices but ignored them. He walked with a clear purpose to the chair across from Duan Cheng and sat down.
Seeing that the man wouldn’t even look at him, Su Xi frowned and reached out to snatch the book from his hands. He slammed it shut and said with dissatisfaction: “Duan Cheng, why have you been avoiding me lately?”
