The Prosecutor Is Accustomed To Waiting For A Rabbit To Hit A Stump - Chapter 15
Chapter 15
“There’s an odor that you haven’t noticed yourself? Should we check your ENT?” Chen Qian retorted, then quickly asked, “Are you hurt?”
“No.”
But, was it really that smelly? Lin Fan raised her arm, sniffed with her upturned nose, and sniffed again. It seemed… there was indeed a slight smell.
By the time Lin Fan had showered and changed, it was time to leave work. She decided not to go back to the unit and was about to order takeout when Chen Qian called.
“Wanna go eat mantis shrimp?”
“Sure, call Xiao Ning, Ying Chaoyang, and Old Shen. Everyone worked hard running around today. My treat.”
Chen Qian snorted. “Didn’t you just donate to that little girl? Do you still have money?”
Lin Fan had briefly mentioned Cheng Nuannuan’s situation to Chen Qian, originally hoping that her ‘brains’ partner could brainstorm some long-term mechanism to help Cheng Nuannuan. She didn’t expect to get any solutions, just a whole lot of sarcasm.
Lin Fan disliked Chen Qian’s sharp tongue and replied without hesitation, “Do you know how annoying you are! I’m not wasting any more breath on you. I’m going to blow-dry my hair and head out.”
With that, she hung up the phone without listening to what else the annoying person had to say.
After blow-drying her hair, Lin Fan tucked her short hair behind her ears. She changed into jeans and a T-shirt, feeling fresh and clean.
It was early summer, and the temperature was just right.
Lin Fan drove her small car, casually opening the convertible top. The early summer evening breeze felt somewhat gentle.
Arriving at the night market, she saw Ying Chaoyang already munching on a popsicle.
“Where’s Old Shen?” Lin Fan asked, not seeing the driver, Old Shen.
“He already had dinner prepared at home. Look, your invitation wasn’t very sincere, only notifying him right before the meal,” Chen Qian replied. He was still wearing his judge’s uniform, just without the badge.
The spring judge’s uniform was a black suit. Chen Qian’s appearance was indeed quite good. The white shirt, black suit, and black trousers, paired with clean black leather shoes, made him look less like an insurance salesman and more like an executive from a large company.
He drew several glances from passing young women.
Ying Chaoyang, the big, honest guy, stood tall beside him, but couldn’t divert any of Chen Qian’s attraction.
“Let’s go then,” Lin Fan said, entering the night market.
This night market was a designated area by the government, part of the nighttime economy and street vendor scene. A particular small shop there served exceptionally delicious mantis shrimp.
On the way, Lin Fan bought matcha-flavored fried yogurt and particularly addressed Zhou Ning, “Xiao Ning, do you want to buy some Rou Yuan (lean meat balls)? I remember you liked them before.”
Zhou Ning, true to her name, looked like a quiet, gentle lady. She smiled softly, “No need, Sister Fan. I’m saving space for mantis shrimp.”
“Alright, it’s just ahead.”
As Lin Fan led her colleagues into the shop, a burst of loud laughter erupted inside.
Lin Fan knew the owner. She pushed aside the door curtain and smiled brightly, “Old Zhang, what’s so funny?”
A television was mounted on the wall directly opposite the door. Lin Fan instantly saw it. Wow! Good heavens, the TV station is fast. The footage filmed this morning is being broadcast now!
Old Zhang was laughing so hard that tears were streaming down his face. He turned and saw Lin Fan, clutching his stomach and stuttering with laughter. “Xiao Lin, you’re the one holding the pig, right? You’re too hilarious! Hahaha, that was too funny. You were pulling that pig’s ear, stretching it so long, ah hahaha.”
There weren’t many customers in the small shop. Hearing the owner’s words, they all turned to look at Lin Fan. Seeing the clean and pretty young woman with neat, short black hair, they couldn’t help but laugh again.
One customer remarked, “She looks completely different from the one on TV.”
What exactly was broadcast on TV?!
The four of them sat down. Boss Zhang served them a cold platter of pig’s ears. “Xiao Lin, pig’s ears, on the house. You are just too hilarious.”
Lin Fan was already searching on her phone. She wanted to see how hilarious she looked.
Unexpectedly, she didn’t need to search. Chen Qian had already handed his phone to her. “Congratulations! Local trending topic, though you’re still in last place.”
“Why does your tone sound somewhat gloating!” Lin Fan frowned, feeling a subtle premonition of misfortune.
Sure enough, looking at the phone, the clip of her catching the pig had been turned into a standalone segment. The TV station’s horizontal footage was converted into a vertical short video better suited for faces, and a particularly ghostly background music was added, syncing perfectly with the actions.
In the short video, Lin Fan missed grabbing the pig’s tail, followed by a flying tackle, catching the pig’s ear.
The final scene was Lin Fan holding the large pig in her arms, proudly raising her head.
It was undeniably funny, especially the contrast between Lin Fan’s crisp uniform and the large, white pig. Lin Fan’s final expression—innocent, bright, and slightly proud—combined with the large pig’s pitiful squeal, was particularly amusing.
It was also quite embarrassing, certainly not very dignified or professional.
Lin Fan felt a headache coming on. She handed the phone back to Chen Qian and sighed, “It’s for work, it’s for work.”
Chen Qian raised an eyebrow, naturally seizing the opportunity for some sharp-tongued commentary. “You, my friend, are about to go viral! I can already imagine tomorrow’s questions from other courts: ‘Does your Anding Court have a pig-hugging court officer?'”
Lin Fan clipped a piece of pig’s ear onto Chen Qian’s plate. “Shut up! Eat! Everyone’s just having fun. The attention will fade soon. I won’t really go viral.”
“That’s not certain.” Chen Qian suddenly smiled, looking somewhat handsome. “But I hope you don’t go viral, after all, you don’t look particularly good in that video.”
Despite saying she didn’t look good, Chen Qian watched the video over and over after returning home from dinner. Towards the end, he paused the screen right on Lin Fan’s silly smile.
“Silly Fan,” Chen Qian muttered, unaware that his own smile held a hint of indulgence.
Contrary to Lin Fan’s expectations, after a night’s fermentation, her ghostly video became even more popular…
Early in the morning, Yan Han, who never woke up early, was up and rushing over with her phone. “These unscrupulous netizens! My sister is so beautiful, but they turned her into this awful-looking meme!”
“What is it?” Lin Fan leaned in and saw her phone screen filled with memes of her silly smile while hugging the pig. They were captioned with all sorts of funny phrases, some of which had a slightly vulgar undertone, causing Lin Fan’s brow to slowly furrow.
Yan Han was also angry. “They’re too ugly! These screenshots are too ugly! Those bastards specifically chose the moment you blinked to create the memes!”
Lin Fan also thought they were ugly, but she was more concerned about something else. Her expression became serious as she scrolled up and down the screen. Some netizens just found it fun and interesting, but others’ comments carried ambiguous implications.
The most important thing was that she was wearing her uniform, the uniform that represented the state’s public authority.
It seemed that the contrast of her being embarrassed or undignified was what truly appealed to some netizens, and their remarks were not pleasant.
Lin Fan felt that something was wrong, but she couldn’t immediately pinpoint what it was.
In the canteen, Gu Ye immediately recognized the undercurrent when she saw the news. This is not merely general entertainment; someone is fueling this, using an entertaining format to erode the authority of the state’s public power.
This little white rabbit…
Gu Ye looked at the silly-smiling Lin Fan in the memes, her gaze softening and taking on a hint of a smile.
This little white rabbit is quite committed and serious about her work, unlike the person who acted arrogantly at the hospital.
It’s really strange…
