- Chapter 16 - The Provocative Actress vs. The Gloomy Heiress
Xu Miaomiao flashed a mischievous smile and cried out, “Why did Sister Bai Xin hit me?”
Then, with her left hand, she slapped herself hard across the left cheek.
Bai Xin turned around, arms crossed, watching Xu Miaomiao’s performance with amusement.
Her large, round eyes brimmed with feigned curiosity as she said in an overly sweet voice, “Miaomiao, are you practicing your acting skills?”
Xu Miaomiao, of course, recognized the sarcasm in Bai Xin’s tone. She sneered and muttered under her breath, “Let’s see if you’ll still be laughing later.”
She then cupped water in her hands and splashed it onto her own face.
But the moment she closed her eyes, she felt a strong hand gripping her hair.
“Help!”
Xu Miaomiao tried to scream, but in the next second, she was dragged into a toilet stall.
Bai Xin forced her head toward the toilet bowl. “Since you love drinking toilet water, I’ll let you have your fill!”
After several dunkings, Xu Miaomiao was half-drowned.
Meanwhile, in the banquet hall, Ye Zhixia had been keeping an eye on Xu Miaomiao’s movements.
When Xu Miaomiao followed Bai Xin into the restroom, Ye Zhixia followed as well and messaged her manager, Chen Chen, to join her.
At the same time, Chu Ning, while mingling with the guests, kept glancing at Ye Zhixia. Seeing her head toward the corridor, Chu Ning quickly excused herself and followed.
The commotion inside the restroom was loud enough for Ye Zhixia, Chu Ning, and Chen Chen, who were waiting in the hallway to hear. But the banquet hall was filled with music and dancing, drowning out any noise from the restroom.
Bai Xin only let go of Xu Miaomiao when she heard knocking on the door, tossing her aside.
Fuming but still trying to reassure herself, Xu Miaomiao thought, It’s fine. To take down Bai Xin, this is all worth it!
Staggering to the door, she prepared to plead for help from whoever was outside.
Chen Chen was the first to enter. Seeing her artist in such a disheveled state, she immediately flew into a rage.
Bai Xin stood calmly in the middle of the restroom, eyeing the four people before her.
She recognized Chen Chen as Xu Miaomiao’s manager. Ye Zhixia, of course, was from the same company as Xu Miaomiao. The last one was Chu Ning, the second daughter of the Chu Group, introduced earlier by Tianxing Entertainment’s CEO, Chu Xiao, during his speech.
“Miss Bai, our Xu Miaomiao may be a newcomer, but she’s not someone you can just bully!” Chen Chen snapped furiously.
Xu Miaomiao, playing the victim, looked pitifully at Chen Chen, waiting for her to demand justice.
But Chu Ning, who had noticed the handprint on Xu Miaomiao’s face, quickly whispered something into Chen Chen’s ear.
Instantly, Chen Chen deflated, her accusatory tone vanishing.
Ye Zhixia, observing Chu Ning’s actions, followed her gaze to Xu Miaomiao on the floor.
“Tsk~ Unnecessary~” she couldn’t help but mutter.
The slap mark on Xu Miaomiao’s face was clear, five distinct fingers. But the problem was, the pinky mark was at the top, while the thumb mark was near her jaw.
If someone had slapped her face-to-face, the thumb should have been at the top…
If Xu Miaomiao had only splashed water on herself, with no surveillance in the restroom, she might have successfully framed Bai Xin for bullying. But that slap had completely exposed her scheme.
Seeing Chen Chen’s awkward expression, Ye Zhixia thoughtfully offered her a way out: “Sister Chenchen, didn’t you bring a spare evening gown for me? Let Miaomiao change into it and touch up her makeup while drying her hair.”
Chen Chen first shot Ye Zhixia a grateful look, then took off her suit jacket and draped it over Xu Miaomiao.
Under Xu Miaomiao’s bewildered gaze, she firmly grabbed her arm and led her out of the restroom, taking her to the second-floor lounge.
Since the staircase to the second floor was right next to the restroom, no one else witnessed Xu Miaomiao’s embarrassing state throughout the entire process.
Bai Xin still wore a faint smile on her face as she silently observed Ye Zhixia and Chu Ning before her.
She was curious about what kind of show these two would put on next.
Chu Ning stood tall and straight, stepping forward with a smile to address the petite and lovely Bai Xin: “Don’t worry, no one else will know about what happened today.”
“Oh?” Bai Xin’s eyes sparkled with inquisitive light. “Not going to hold me accountable for bullying Xu Miaomiao?”
Chu Ning turned her head, exchanged a knowing smile with Ye Zhixia, then said to Bai Xin: “We know this matter has nothing to do with you. It was Xu Miaomiao who…”
She left the sentence unfinished, simply giving Bai Xin a “you know what I mean” look.
“If there’s nothing else, we’ll take our leave now,” Ye Zhixia said with a smile as she bid farewell to Bai Xin.
After watching the two depart, Bai Xin gave a slight nod, then walked back to the sink to wash her hands once more.
Ye Zhixia and Chu Ning didn’t return to the banquet hall but instead walked down the corridor toward the second-floor balcony.
The balconies at Ruihua Hotel were all fitted with wooden doors. During the day, these doors would be opened to let in natural light; at night, they would be closed.
Ye Zhixia pressed the handle, pushed the door open, and entered the balcony with Chu Ning before closing it behind them.
“Have you found that driver yet?” Ye Zhixia got straight to the point.
