- Chapter 15 - The Alluring Actress vs. The Gloomy Heiress
The opening banquet for the Love of a Millennium film crew arrived swiftly.
By evening, Ye Zhixia arrived at the Rui Hua Hotel in the company car. Stepping out, she smiled and engaged with the surrounding media.
Just as she reached the hotel entrance, however, the swarm of reporters following her suddenly rushed in the opposite direction.
Curious, she turned and saw a sleek black luxury car pulling up at the far end of the red carpet.
The media had received word that today marked the first time the second daughter of the Chu family, Chu Ning, would represent Tianxing Entertainment at the banquet. Everyone was intensely curious about this heiress, who had recently weathered a scandal and survived a car accident.
Cameras were immediately trained on the black sedan.
The door opened, and flashes erupted in a frenzy. The first to emerge was Chu Xiao, tall at 185 cm, with striking, roguish good looks, who then turned back to chivalrously shield the car’s roof for Chu Ning.
With a cool smile, Chu Ning gracefully stepped onto the red carpet, her right hand resting lightly on Chu Xiao’s arm.
At the end of the carpet, Ye Zhixia caught sight of Chu Ning and couldn’t help but smile.
Chu Ning noticed her too and responded with a slight nod.
Chu Xiao, however, seemed to misinterpret the exchange.
He shot Ye Zhixia a disdainful glance, the corner of his lips curling smugly.
The invisible Xiao Mi hovered beside Ye Zhixia and transmitted a message: [That guy seems to think you’re flirting with him.]
Ye Zhixia’s smile vanished instantly. She gave Chu Xiao a brief, icy look before turning away and striding into the hotel.
His self-important, “domineering CEO” act made her skin crawl.
Once inside the banquet hall, she silently remarked to Xiao Mi: [Poor Ningning, having to endure holding onto Chu Xiao like that.]
A few days prior, Chu Ning had secretly visited a private orthopedic hospital to have her cast removed, telling her grandfather that her recovery was progressing faster than expected. Seeing her lively and energetic, the old man didn’t press further, assuming her injuries hadn’t been severe.
As the film crew gradually assembled, Chu Xiao confidently took the stage to deliver the evening’s opening speech.
He didn’t take Chu Ning, a mere high school graduate seriously, mentioning her only in passing.
Chu Ning, for her part, paid no mind to his petty gestures. After all, she was the true Chu bloodline. How long could Chu Xiao revel in his hollow arrogance?
Yet, one announcement in Chu Xiao’s speech sent ripples through the crowd.
“As everyone knows, the originally cast supporting actress Hao Ke’er was unfortunately injured during an event.”
The audience nodded in acknowledgment.
“In the spirit of giving newcomers a chance, Director Kong Sen and I have handpicked three fresh faces to audition for the role.”
“All three will receive screen time, and from them, we will select the most outstanding performer to take on the supporting role!”
A stunned silence fell over the room before murmurs of discussion broke out.
Ye Zhixia scoffed inwardly, venting to Xiao Mi: [What kind of idiotic move is this? Trying to play the visionary, giving newcomers a shot?]
Xiao Mi, munching on chocolate, replied half-heartedly: [Yeah, yeah.]
Whispers spread among the guests:
“Using a newcomer for a major supporting role will the audience even accept that?”
“Exactly. Two award-winning actresses reduced to one leading a rookie. If I were Ye Zhixia, I’d walk out right now.”
At this moment, Ye Zhixia took the lead in applauding. After all, Tianxing Entertainment was the biggest investor in this film, and no one else dared to voice dissent, so they could only follow suit and clap along.
Ye Zhixia murmured to herself: [This is, after all, the project where the male and female leads fell in love, what do we supporting characters have to complain about?]
This time, Xiao Mi didn’t even bother to humor her, focusing entirely on nibbling the small cake in her hand.
Meanwhile, in the crowd, Xu Miaomiao, dressed in a white satin gown, had a look of unwavering determination in her eyes.
She stared intently at Bai Xin, who was wearing a purple evening gown, smiling sweetly with her delicate and charming appearance. Bai Xin was one of her competitors, and today, Xu Miaomiao was going to eliminate this rival.
Before long, Bai Xin set down her wine glass.
Xu Miaomiao knew her opportunity had arrived.
Bai Xin lifted the hem of her dress and walked toward the corridor in the corner of the banquet hall.
Pretending to wander around casually, Xu Miaomiao waited until Bai Xin entered the restroom before slipping in after her.
Quickly checking each stall, Xu Miaomiao confirmed that, since the banquet had just begun, the restroom was empty except for the two of them.
Excited, she locked the main door and then stood by the sink, waiting.
When Bai Xin stepped out of the stall, she didn’t notice anything amiss and even smiled at Xu Miaomiao.
Xu Miaomiao returned the smile with a meaningful look, which Bai Xin found rather odd.
Puzzled, Bai Xin silently turned on the faucet to wash her hands, only to see Xu Miaomiao splashing water onto herself.
“Miaomiao, what are you…?” Bai Xin asked, confused.
