- Chapter 14 - The Alluring Actress and the Gloomy Heiress
Old Master Chu bellowed sharply, “Someone, restrain Li Chengyi!”
The security personnel waiting outside immediately entered and dragged the fuming Li Chengyi aside.
Li Chengyi struggled and shouted, “Let me go! I must teach this wretched girl a lesson today!”
“Enough!” Old Master Chu roared angrily. “What do you think the Chu family is?!”
Seeing her grandfather truly furious, Chu Ning, who had been sitting and watching the drama, quickly wobbled to stand on one leg and gently held his arm. “Grandfather, don’t be upset.”
Then, adopting the demeanor of a host, she dismissed the guests: “The Li family’s affairs should be resolved at home, Uncle Li.”
Zhang Chaomin had already rushed to Li Jinqiu’s side, crouching down to hold her daughter tenderly and wiping the blood from her lips.
Li Chengyi wasn’t making a scene mindlessly, he knew that as the elder of the Li family, he had to express his stance on this matter to leave room for reconciliation in the future.
Now that he had given Li Jinqiu a small lesson, the priority was to take his people and leave.
After taking a deep breath to calm himself, he apologized to Old Master Chu and Chu Ning: “I failed in disciplining my daughter. I always thought Jinqiu genuinely cared for Ningning. I lost my composure in front of you both, please forgive me. I will educate her properly and give the Chu family a satisfactory answer!”
With that, he grabbed Li Jinqiu’s arm, yanked her up, and roughly shoved her toward the door.
Old Master Chu could tell Li Chengyi was leaving himself an escape route, still eyeing the financing opportunity.
But he didn’t refuse this incident was a good chance to train Chu Ning.
After the Li family of three left, Old Master Chu wheeled Chu Ning back to her bedroom and gently closed the door.
Then, he said in a low voice:
“Ningning, I’ve already driven Chen Yufen away. You can live at home peacefully now.”
Chu Ning nodded understandingly, though she didn’t believe Chen Yufen’s departure would suddenly make her life better.
Old Master Chu’s voice suddenly grew firmer, his expression stern: “If Chen Yufen is problematic, Chu Xiao can’t be clean either. But he’s been at Tianxing Entertainment for three years—he must have planted his own people, and his projects are surely questionable.”
Hearing this, Chu Ning felt her grandfather had finally come to his senses.
Back then, persuaded by Chu Tianheng, Old Master Chu had appointed Chu Xiao to manage Tianxing Entertainment.
Chu Ning had vehemently opposed it, but no one took her seriously.
Looking at his granddaughter in the wheelchair, Old Master Chu said with remorse, “I blame myself for misjudging people back then and letting that mother and son in.”
“During this three-month summer break, go to Tianxing Entertainment and investigate the situation consider it training. Even if you find nothing, it’s fine. I’ll step in if needed.”
Chu Ning’s crystal-clear eyes instantly brightened. She could get involved in company affairs earlier than planned, this was perfect!
Unable to suppress a smile, she said to Old Master Chu, “Alright, thank you for trusting me, Grandfather.”
Pleased with her quick agreement, Old Master Chu nodded. “The filming of Love of a Millennium, invested by Tianxing Entertainment, has been postponed. The original start date next week will be replaced with a banquet. You and Chu Xiao will attend, it’ll serve as notice of your joining the company.”
Then, glancing at her leg, he added, “If it’s inconvenient then, you can attend in your wheelchair.”
Chu Ning didn’t directly answer Old Master Chu’s question, only comforting him by saying, “Grandpa, don’t worry, I’ll recover soon.”
Li Jinqiu was taken home by her parents.
Zhang Chaomin did her utmost to protect Li Jinqiu, but she couldn’t stop Li Chengyi from forcefully throwing her into the bedroom.
Li Chengyi snatched her phone away and coldly stated, “Reflect on your actions. You won’t come out until you’re ready to admit your mistake and apologize!”
With that, he slammed the door shut and locked it from the outside with a key.
Ever since being slapped at the Chu residence, Li Jinqiu’s left ear had been ringing incessantly, to the point where she could barely hear anything.
On the way home, the tinnitus had subsided slightly, but her hearing grew increasingly weaker, accompanied by sharp pain.
Yet, stubborn and unwilling to yield, she clenched her teeth and refused to bow her head to her father.
Only after the door was locked did she finally cover her ears, collapsing onto the bed in loud, anguished sobs.
Her mother, Zhang Chaomin, had originally been Li Chengyi’s secretary. Li Chengyi had built his career with the help of his first wife, but as soon as his business showed signs of success, he became involved with Zhang Chaomin.
Zhang Chaomin, leveraging her pregnancy, caused a huge scene at the Li household.
Enraged, the first wife immediately divorced Li Chengyi and took their daughter with her, leaving only their two older sons behind, ostensibly to “foster their masculinity under their father’s guidance,” but in reality, to ensure the Li family assets remained under her sons’ watch.
The first wife’s family had considerable influence, forcing Li Chengyi to scramble for survival by currying favor with powerful figures.
During a visit to the Chu family, young Li Jinqiu and young Chu Ning became acquainted. Seizing the opportunity, Li Chengyi taught Li Jinqiu numerous ways to ingratiate herself with Chu Ning, successfully turning the children’s friendship into a bridge between the Li and Chu families.
From a young age, Li Jinqiu had been conditioned by her father to fawn over Chu Ning, but Chu Ning, aloof by nature, remained indifferent toward her.
Chu Ning came from a wealthy family, always ranked at the top of her class, and was strikingly beautiful, admired and envied by her peers.
Li Jinqiu, however, as the daughter of a mistress, was subtly ostracized by her classmates. Over time, resentment festered in her heart, leading her down a dark path.
Now that her schemes had been exposed, she felt no remorse, only hatred.
Why?
Chu Ning had everything good resources, adoration, envy simply because she was born into the privileged Chu family.
One day, Li Jinqiu vowed, she would drag this hypocritical Chu Ning down from her pedestal!
