The Pitiful Guy I Saved Is a Possessive Big Shot - Chapter 5
Since he left the birthday party early, it was only 7:00 PM when Shi Qingning arrived home.
It had only been half a day since he woke up in this world, but to Shi Qingning, it felt very long. Besides the stress of the new memories, this body had just been discharged from the hospital today.
He didn’t notice it while he was out, but once he returned to the warm and comfortable environment, Shi Qingning immediately felt a wave of exhaustion. This kind of tiredness was new to him; it didn’t come with pain, but was simply a comfortable urge to sleep. He knew this strange experience wasn’t a dream, because he never felt this relaxed in his dreams.
Mr. and Mrs. Shi were not home. Only security staff and a middle-aged auntie who cooked were there.
Shi Qingning ran into the auntie when he arrived. A look of joy appeared on her face, but she suddenly paused and stopped moving toward him. Finally, she went to the dining room and brought a glass of honey water, placing it gently in front of him.
The honey water was freshly made, smelling sweet with a fresh mint leaf floating on top. One could see how much care went into it. However, the auntie’s movements were cautious, as if she were afraid of making him angry. She didn’t even dare to stay for long.
She was about to turn and leave when she heard a voice.
“Thank you.”
The auntie turned around in surprise and saw the boy looking up at her. His face was a bit pale, but his eyes were round and pretty.
The auntie froze for a long time before snapping out of it. She hurriedly wiped her hands on her clothes and said repeatedly, “Oh, oh, it’s nothing, it’s nothing.” She tried to smile, but her eyes turned red for some reason. “It’s good that you’re out of the hospital. That’s great!”
The boy said, “I have some medicine.”
“It’s already prepared, already prepared!” the auntie said quickly. “I’ll go get it right now!”
The auntie rushed to the kitchen, leaving Shi Qingning alone in the living room. He couldn’t help but touch the tip of his nose.
Did the young master have such a bad relationship with everyone at home before?
Shi Qingning stood up and followed her. Not wanting to trouble her further, he went directly to the kitchen to drink his medicine, which gave the auntie another fright.
The medicine was brewed well, with most of the bitter taste removed. After Shi Qingning finished drinking, the auntie felt relieved and left with a bodyguard escorting her to the door.
When Shi Qingning finished rinsing his mouth and came out, he saw another bodyguard in a black suit hanging up the phone. Seeing the young master, the bodyguard hesitated but finally spoke.
“That was a call from Madam. She is still working, but she felt relieved to know you are back.” He added, “Madam was afraid you would be annoyed to hear from her, so she told us not to tell you.”
“…”
Shi Qingning wanted to touch his nose again.
It wasn’t hard to understand. Congenital heart disease is a very draining illness. Even hearing about it is exhausting, let alone living through it. Anyone who spent over ten years unable to run or jump, stuck in a greenhouse while envying the world outside, would find it hard to stay positive. Since the young master was pampered and loved by the Shi family, it was natural for him to be a bit spoiled.
However, based on the sincere joy and love from his mother and the auntie, the young master definitely wasn’t a bad person at heart.
Never mind, Shi Qingning thought. This won’t change in one day. I’ll take it slow.
Since the house was empty, it was a good time for Shi Qingning to explore. He had gathered a lot of information from people today, so he planned to observe his surroundings to find clues about his daily life.
Unfortunately, after the bodyguard’s introduction, Shi Qingning realized this wasn’t the place where the young master used to live. To help him recover after leaving the hospital, the whole family had moved to this quiet villa area with great air quality. All the residents lived in separate villas, and each neighbor was one or two kilometers apart. Most shockingly, there was even an artificial lake behind the house.
The three-story villa had dozens of rooms, including a rehabilitation room and a nursing room, all built to professional medical standards. The young master’s bedroom was newly decorated and extremely comfortable. Sadly, nothing felt familiar to Shi Qingning.
In the end, Shi Qingning returned to the living room. He didn’t find any memories, but he found some flameless aromatherapy.
The scents were specially prepared for him. There are very few types of scents that heart patients can use. Even though the young master had finished his surgery, the family was still very careful.
Luckily, after looking through a few bottles, Shi Qingning found the mint scent he wanted. He chose a bottle of fresh mint. He dripped the clear essential oil onto the cool green stones in a crystal cup, and a refreshing scent spread through the room. It smelled just like crushed mint leaves—very fresh.
Shi Qingning couldn’t help but think of the cool green eyes he saw today. Bai Yexi’s eyes weren’t a bright emerald green; they were a dark color you only noticed up close, like turquoise under moonlight. Cold, dark, and beautiful.
The novel didn’t mention the protagonist being mixed-race. He looked Eastern, but his features were very sharp. His highbrow made him look proud and hard to approach. He had heard that some native Easterners could have natural dark green eyes, though it was extremely rare—one in tens of thousands.
Bai Yexi might be one of those, Shi Qingning thought. That’s probably why he’s the protagonist.
Unfortunately, the plot involving the protagonist was truly heartbreaking. Shi Qingning calculated that based on Bai Yexi’s age, the main plot shouldn’t have started yet. He still had time to pull him back onto the right track.
The first step was to start with the family that adopted Bai Yexi. He remembered that the first person who “liked” Bai Yexi was that family’s son…
As he was thinking, he heard the sound of the door unlocking.
Shi Qingning looked up.
Through the dark night, a stern young man wearing a deep gray coat and a custom suit walked in quickly. It was cold outside, and a wind blew in when the door opened, but even the coldest wind couldn’t match the chill coming from this man. As soon as he entered, the room temperature seemed to drop a few degrees.
The bodyguards in the living room immediately stood at attention and bowed. “Eldest Young Master.”
The atmosphere became very heavy. Shi Qingning froze for a second before realizing who this was. He also called out, “Brother.”
Shi Qingning was confused. After waking up, he had searched for information about the family. Didn’t the news say the Eldest Young Master was in another city for a meeting? The bodyguards also said the family was busy today. With the Shi family’s status, being busy wasn’t strange. So why now…
A cold gaze landed on Shi Qingning. Shi Yi glanced at him without saying a word. He was much taller than Shi Qingning, and his gaze was naturally cold and looking down on him.
A tall, thin man following Shi Yi closed the door and turned to Shi Qingning. “Second Young Master, we heard you insisted on leaving the hospital to go to a bar. Madam was worried about your health, so she called Mr. Shi back early.”
Shi Qingning: “…”
He looked at the luggage the assistant was carrying. This “early” probably meant he had to change his flight. His mother couldn’t leave her meeting, but Shi Qingning guessed she stayed away because she was afraid her son would find her annoying. So, she sent the eldest son.
Shi Yi was seven years older than Shi Qingning. Unlike his sickly brother, Shi Yi was strong and rarely got sick. However, his personality was cold. His icy face had scared away many admirers. Even though he was very handsome, people didn’t dare to look at him twice for fear of offending him.
Now that Shi Yi had taken over part of the family business, his style was consistent: strict with himself and even more forceful with others. Usually, he was extremely busy, working day and night. Shi Qingning had seen his schedule in the news; it was far beyond a normal work week.
And now, this famous workaholic had been called back from work early to look after his brother.
The assistant used polite words, but his voice had no warmth. “Are you feeling unwell? Do you need to go back to the hospital?”
Shi Qingning knew how busy his brother was, so he understood how he appeared to the assistant. He shook his head. “No.”
Shi Yi walked past him and sat on the sofa, crossing his long legs with a blank expression. The news never mentioned his private life, likely because it was too boring. However, there were rumors that he worked so hard because he didn’t want to go home, as he was unhappy that his parents favored his sick younger brother.
Shi Yi’s name hadn’t appeared much in the hospital visit records either. The relationship between the brothers seemed very distant. Under Shi Yi’s icy silence, there was no telling how much anger was hidden. Shi Qingning didn’t want to provoke him further since he had things to do.
“I’m fine. Mom already called,” Shi Qingning said. He stood up holding the aromatherapy cup. “You should rest after your trip, Brother.”
The assistant scoffed quietly. Now he’s acting like a good boy. Where was this behavior earlier? He was about to take the luggage upstairs when he realized Shi Yi wasn’t moving.
Shi Yi looked up at Shi Qingning. “Come here.”
The assistant was surprised. Why wasn’t he leaving? Shi Qingning didn’t expect this reaction either, but he walked over.
Shi Yi took out his phone and sent a message. Seconds later, a bodyguard knocked and entered. This was a different bodyguard from the ones who followed Shi Qingning earlier.
He was carrying a laptop. He turned on the TV and projected a video onto the screen. A noisy sound came through, and the person in the video was Jian Ren.
However, the video wasn’t from today. it was a hidden recording from some time ago. Jian Ren and his friends didn’t notice the camera and were chatting and flirting with girls passing by. Soon, Jian Ren started kissing a girl in public. His friends were cheering him on.
There was more than one video. Some were visuals, some were conversations. They were all about Jian Ren’s messy love life—he was a total scumbag. Clearly, the Eldest Young Master had done a very detailed investigation to make his brother give up on Jian Ren completely.
Shi Qingning lowered his head and held his mint cup. “I already made things clear to him. We won’t have anything to do with each other anymore.”
Shi Yi glanced at him with an unreadable, cold expression. He made a gesture, and the bodyguard switched to another video.
Unlike the previous one, this video was shot from a high, fixed angle. It looked like security footage. It showed Jian Ren and his group at an outdoor cafe, mocking people walking by.
“That girl who just passed was pretty.”
“Pretty my ass, she’s as flat as a board.”
“Look at that person with the ponytail. Those legs are so long.”
“They are long! Wait, what are you looking at? That’s a guy!”
“No way, a guy with a ponytail… damn, it really is a guy! Gross!”
“Haha, told you you were blind. Be careful, Jian Ren hates guys with long hair the most.”
Everyone looked at Jian Ren. Indeed, he frowned with total disgust. “Idiot. Where is he?” He tilted his chin. “Go, find a place to drag that idiot away and beat him up.”
The group agreed and started to get up, but then stopped. “Wait, where is he? I don’t see him. Did he turn a corner?”
They couldn’t find the ponytail guy, so they gave up. Even though they didn’t catch him, they kept talking trash. “He must be a freak. What normal guy grows long hair?” “They must all be gay, wanting to be women.” “People like that pollute the city…”
As they were chatting, someone noticed something else. “Hey, isn’t that the one who’s chasing Jian Ren?” “That little gay kid?”
They laughed quietly. Since Jian Ren didn’t seem to care, they continued. “Is the little young master out looking for Jian Ren? Why does he look so lost?” “He probably hasn’t seen Jian Ren in a while. Look at that lovesick face.” “Should we play with him?”
The security footage was limited. It didn’t show the young master, only the group talking. Since they didn’t catch the ponytail guy, they turned their attention to the young master.
“Isn’t there a pond over there? How about we throw him in?”
“Looking at him, do you think he’ll cry on the spot?”
“Let him cry! Then Jian Ren can come and play the hero!”
“That’s brilliant! How exciting! He’ll have to marry Jian Ren right then and there!”
“What do you think, Jian Ren?”
Jian Ren looked up lazily, narrowed his eyes, and said, “Don’t let him out too quickly.”
Everyone laughed. “Mr. Jian is the best! Let’s go!”
While the people in the video were laughing, the living room was silent.
Shi Qingning watched the TV thoughtfully. Looking at the date on the footage, this must have been the “accident” before the young master fainted.
He already knew Jian Ren was an idiot, but he was worried about something else. He thought Jian Ren bullied the protagonist tonight just because he lost face. Now it seemed Jian Ren had a long-term prejudice against long-haired guys. So tonight…
The video stopped abruptly. The living room fell into an even deeper silence. Shi Qingning realized Shi Yi was looking at him with that same unreadable expression.
Is this how he looks at a useless brother?
Shi Qingning touched his nose and was about to speak when there was a knock at the door. Sun Ming entered, looking like he had urgent news. “Second Young Master…” He paused when he saw the other person on the sofa. “Eldest Young Master.”
Shi Yi looked up, his handsome face like ice. He spoke shortly: “Speak.”
Sun Ming hesitated but said, “I went to send home the person the Second Young Master met tonight, but he left on his own and didn’t get in the car.”
Bai Yexi went back by himself?
Shi Qingning frowned. His bad feeling grew stronger. Jian Ren hated long-haired guys so much he wanted to beat up a random stranger; would he really let Bai Yexi go easily? Plus, the novel’s plot always targeted the protagonist. Anything bad happening to Bai Yexi was possible.
Shi Qingning felt something was wrong. He put down the mint cup and asked, “Where did he go?”
Sun Ming shook his head. “I caught up to him once, but I lost him. I don’t know where he went.” He paused. “But the guys watching Jian Ren said that after he left the bar, he suddenly turned in the opposite direction of his home.”
“Do you have Jian Ren’s location?” Shi Qingning stood up. “Mint might be in danger. I’m going to check on him.”
“Second Young Master,” the assistant frowned. “It’s so late. You’re going out again? Mr. Shi just spent hours on a plane to get back. He pushed aside many tasks just to see you. Going out now will waste his time. Can’t you think about your brother?”
Shi Qingning tilted his head. “I can go by myself.” He said to Shi Yi, “Brother, please rest at home.”
“You by yourself—” The assistant was cut off by a cold voice.
“Do you really want to go?” Shi Yi asked.
Shi Qingning nodded. “I broke things off with Jian Ren tonight, and he might take his anger out on that boy. It’s my responsibility to check on him.”
To be honest, Shi Qingning didn’t know if he could convince this cold older brother. The assistant sneered in his heart. What a nice excuse. He just wants to find that scumbag again. He thought Shi Yi would scold him, but instead, he heard Shi Yi say:
“Go get the car.”
The bodyguard left. The assistant was stunned. Before he could react, the Eldest Young Master was already walking toward the door. He looked back at Shi Qingning, looking a bit annoyed.
“Put on a coat.” Then he said to the bodyguards, “Two coats.”
So, the young master was bundled up tightly before he was allowed out.
The two of them got into the car. The bodyguards following Jian Ren finally found his location. Following the address, they soon arrived at a secluded street. The lights nearby were dim. They could see a few figures at the corner and heard the sounds of fighting and groaning.
Shi Qingning was startled by the noise. As soon as the car stopped, he jumped out to find the person. But after a few steps, he felt his collar tighten and was pulled back.
Shi Qingning turned and saw a very unhappy Shi Yi. Shi Yi didn’t look at him but gestured to the bodyguards. The guards quickly cleared the area, and Shi Qingning finally saw Bai Yexi.
Thankfully, he was one of the people still standing. He hadn’t lost consciousness. In the dim light, a bodyguard was almost attacked when approaching him, until Shi Qingning’s voice rang out.
“Mint!”
Shi Qingning ran over. The boy was leaning one hand on his knee, breathing hard. His tied-up hair was messy, and his light-colored shirt was dirty.
“Are you okay?” Shi Qingning hurried to support him.
The boy stiffened when he was touched. He paused before looking up. His face had no obvious injuries. Shi Qingning felt relieved, but then the boy looked away.
It seemed he wasn’t used to being cared for. Bai Yexi’s throat moved, and after a while, he said, “…I’m fine.”
His chest was heaving, and there was sweat on his forehead. Seeing him like this made Shi Qingning’s heart ache. He noticed at least ten people lying on the ground. Even without the ones the bodyguards handled, the number was worrying.
“Did Jian Ren come for you?” Shi Qingning exhaled. “Never mind, we’ll talk later. Let’s go to the hospital for a check-up…”
As soon as he said this, the boy looked at him and reached out his hand.
Shi Qingning was confused. “What’s wrong?”
Bai Yexi still had no expression as he showed his hands. His long fingers were stretched out, showing no swelling or injuries. Under the moonlight, they looked as white as cold jade.
The boy looked down and said in a cool voice, “Hands. They’re fine.”
The hands you like were not hurt.
