The Pitiful Guy I Saved Is a Possessive Big Shot - Chapter 4
After meeting the main character, Shi Qingning had learned the main plot of the novel, but his own memories were still a mess. Because of this, he wasn’t sure if the original young master knew how to play the piano.
However, when Shi Qingning heard Jian Ren playing the guitar earlier, he had recognized the song immediately. Even though the performance was so messy it sounded like noise, he could easily identify the rhythm and melody. This meant his memory contained a solid foundation of musical knowledge.
Also, when Shi Qingning pointed out Jian Ren’s mistake, he noticed that Sun Ming, the bodyguard, didn’t look surprised. It was very likely the young master already had this skill.
Even if he didn’t, Shi Qingning knew that heart patients had very few choices for activities. They couldn’t do any intense sports. So, it wouldn’t be strange if the young master suddenly wanted to play the piano.
Shi Qingning was used to thinking things through carefully. He felt that this body, after the surgery, was different. the constant pain and heaviness were gone, and his body could finally keep up with his thoughts.
Since there was no risk, Shi Qingning was happy to help the main character. He didn’t care about the dramatic plot.
A musical genius should be playing music!
He felt very sure about this. He didn’t realize that his eyes were shining brightly with his sincere wish.
Bai Yexi watched him. He pressed his lips together, and his dark green eyes flickered. A cold wind blew, making the fallen leaves rustle on the ground. Shi Qingning, who felt healthy just a moment ago, couldn’t help but sneeze.
Sun Ming frowned and spoke up. “Second Young Master, it’s too cold out here. Why don’t you talk inside?”
Shi Qingning nodded and looked at Bai Yexi. “Is that okay?”
The other boy did not refuse.
As Shi Qingning turned to walk toward the parking lot, he heard a low, cold voice behind him.
“Bai Yexi.”
Shi Qingning looked back.
Bai Yexi was looking at him. His long hair moved in the night wind like flowing ink. It made Shi Qingning’s heart itch again.
I really want to touch it.
“I am Bai Yexi,” the boy said softly.
Shi Qingning smiled. “Night scent? Like mint?”
He had noticed the name earlier; it reminded him of his favorite mint scent. “It’s a very beautiful name.”
Bai Yexi stopped talking and looked away.
“My name is Shi Qingning,” Shi Qingning said with a smile. “Ning as in lemon (Ning Meng).”
“It’s nice to meet you.”
“…”
In the cold winter wind, Shi Qingning heard a soft reply.
“Mm.”
The Shi family’s car was parked in a nearby private parking lot. These lots were expensive but very nice—not damp like regular ones, but bright and spacious. There were even tables and chairs inside. Shi Qingning invited Bai Yexi to sit and asked:
“Are you here to help the band?”
In the novel, the main character was a musical genius but lived a very hard life. After escaping from human traffickers, he never found his parents. When someone finally adopted him, they treated him like a servant. He was likely working here to earn money.
Bai Yexi looked at him. The room was warm and smelled nice—much better than the freezing outdoors. But even inside, Shi Qingning’s face was still pale. His lips were slightly white from the cold wind.
Bai Yexi frowned slightly. “Just passing by.”
Just passing by?
Shi Qingning blinked but didn’t ask more. First, the main character was never a very warm person. Second, Bai Yexi looked about sixteen years old. Working in a bar at that age was illegal.
The place, “Players,” was famous as a bar, but it was officially a musical instrument store and a cafe. Shi Qingning had checked on his way here; it only acted as a bar late at night.
This situation meant someone was looking out for him. Otherwise, letting an underage kid like Shi Qingning in would be enough to get Jian Ren’s party shut down by the police. Because of his age, Bai Yexi probably had to work in these hidden places.
Thinking of this, Shi Qingning felt the boy was even more pitiful.
“It might not be safe here,” he warned gently. He didn’t say too much and changed the subject. “About the piano partner, will you consider it?”
“I will pay you the fair market price. If you’re worried, you can check the rates at a music store. We can decide on a price together.”
Knowing the main character would be suspicious, Shi Qingning gave him his contact information.
“Don’t worry, take your time. Let me know when you decide.”
Bai Yexi remained quiet, but he didn’t say no.
After they finished talking, Sun Ming looked at his watch and leaned down. “Second Young Master, it’s almost time for your medicine. Should we head back?”
Even though the surgery was over, heart disease required a slow recovery. He needed daily medicine and therapy.
Shi Qingning nodded. “Okay.”
Bai Yexi looked over. Shi Qingning explained, “I just had surgery.”
He smiled and said, “My health isn’t great, so our practice sessions won’t be too long.”
Shi Qingning said this to make Bai Yexi feel better, so he wouldn’t worry about the time.
But Sun Ming noticed that when Bai Yexi heard this, his brow moved slightly. His hand at his side slowly clenched into a fist, and blue veins appeared on his pale hand.
Sun Ming became more alert. But Bai Yexi didn’t do anything.
The Shi family had sent two cars. Shi Qingning asked where Bai Yexi was going and told a bodyguard to drive him there. A bodyguard got into the driver’s seat and started the car. Just as he was about to turn, someone knocked on the window.
It was Sun Ming. “I’ll do it.”
“Boss?”
The bodyguard was confused but got out immediately. Sun Ming simply told him, “Take good care of the young master.”
“Yes, sir!”
Sun Ming stood by the car. He didn’t get in right away. He narrowed his eyes at the boy he was supposed to drive. Bai Yexi stood by the wall with his hand in his pocket. Even in the bright parking lot, he seemed to be surrounded by shadows. He felt very cold and gloomy. He hardly seemed alive.
The young master seemed very interested in this person and was kind to him without any worry. But Sun Ming didn’t feel the same.
Sun Ming knew how strong his team was. The Shi family paid a huge amount of money to hire them. Sun Ming didn’t believe that a “normal” person could fight off three former special forces soldiers alone. And this boy was just a teenager.
Based on his experience, Sun Ming was very suspicious. He chose to drive the boy himself to find out more about him, fearing the young master’s kindness was being used.
Sun Ming saw Bai Yexi looking at Shi Qingning. Shi Qingning was swallowing his pills. Because they weren’t sure if he’d go home tonight, the bodyguards carried his medicine. Some pills had to be taken an hour before eating, so he took them now so he could eat something when he got home.
Shi Qingning was surrounded by bodyguards. He took the medicine skillfully, showing he had done this for years. But being used to it didn’t mean it felt good. After swallowing, he covered his mouth and refused the candy and sweet water from the bodyguards. He was afraid if he opened his mouth, he would throw up.
The medicine was so bitter it brought tears to the young master’s eyes. Sun Ming saw Bai Yexi look down, thinking about something.
Then, Bai Yexi reached up and took something off his neck.
Sun Ming had excellent vision and saw it clearly even from a distance. It was a simple silver chain.
Bai Yexi looked down, letting the chain rest in his palm. Then, using his other hand, he began to wrap the chain around his wrist, loop by loop.
Veins were still jumping on the back of his hand. The silver chain wrapped around his thin right wrist, over his palm, and around his wrist bone. It looked like he was pulling his sharp energy back into himself. Or like he was tying up a wild animal that was losing control.
When the chain was finished, it looked almost like a handcuff on his hand.
Bai Yexi’s face remained calm. He lowered his hand, and his sleeve slid down to cover the silver light. He looked normal again.
No one except Sun Ming noticed this silent action. No one saw that only after he had “tied himself up” did he look back at the beautiful boy.
Shi Qingning left only after the bitterness of the medicine faded. He rolled down the window and waved to Bai Yexi.
“Goodbye, Mint!”
Bai Yexi stayed quiet and only replied with one word.
“Mm.”
Only when the car disappeared did Bai Yexi look away. Sun Ming drove the car over.
“Please get in.”
Bai Yexi didn’t look up. Sun Ming frowned and was about to speak when his phone rang. It was from the Shi family. He had to answer.
“Ma’am, yes, the second young master has left the party.”
Just after one sentence, Sun Ming heard a cold voice.
“Thank him for me.”
Sun Ming looked up. The boy who was just in front of the car was gone.
Sun Ming was shocked and jumped out to chase him, but because he was distracted by the phone call, he only saw a shadow. By the time he started the car, the boy was completely gone.
The night was cold. A tall, thin figure walked alone down a dark street. The pale streetlights showed his long frame and the dark hair reaching down to his waist. Because of his height and cold energy, no one would mistake him for a girl.
It was too cold for people to be out. This lonely road had no other people. Except for the wind, it was silent and scary.
The person walking slowly stopped. He heard other sounds. He didn’t have to wait long. People jumped out from the corner ahead. Not just one, a whole group. They surrounded him, looking for trouble.
Bai Yexi turned around. The leader was the tall man he had seen earlier.
“You run pretty fast.”
Jian Ren stood with his arms crossed. His face looked even meaner in the dark.
“Your hair is so girlish. Can you only run away?”
He gave a cold, twisted laugh. “Try running again.”
Even his followers, who had been with him for weeks, felt cold. Master Jian was truly angry today.
The party had ended badly. Jian Ren had wanted to chase the young master, but his car was blocked by a heavy SUV. When he tried to get angry, a man in a suit and sunglasses got out.
“Please don’t go near Master Shi anymore,” the man said politely. “Thank you.”
The man looked very scary.
Jian Ren was furious but couldn’t win that fight. His followers convinced him to turn around. They thought he was going home, but after a phone call, he came here. Jian Ren had several people watching Bai Yexi. He hated men with long hair.
“Men with long hair are all trash, you know?” he said with a fake, gentle voice. “They just need a beating.”
Jian Ren didn’t know Bai Yexi. He had never seen him before today. But the grandson of the Jian family—the one the old man loved most, the one Jian Ren’s parents forced him to copy—had long hair. So, Jian Ren hated all men with long hair.
“You deserve this,” Jian Ren said coldly. He waved his hand. “Get him!”
About a dozen people surrounded the boy. Some pulled out steel pipes that shone in the night. The place was empty and had no cameras. The boy looked like a trapped animal.
But his expression never changed. He didn’t even look away.
Bai Yexi’s gaze was fixed on Jian Ren’s side. To others, it looked like he was scared and couldn’t react.
No one saw how he moved. Like lightning, there was a sound before a shape. The only thing people heard was a terrible scream.
“F— AH!!!”
The person screaming was Jian Ren.
Jian Ren had just started to feel like his anger was being released when he was kicked hard in the chest. He flew backward and hit the ground!
It felt like a giant rock had hit his chest. Jian Ren thought several ribs were broken. He wailed and tried to curl up, but the pain was so bad he couldn’t move. Then he realized he couldn’t move his hand either.
His hand was being stepped on.
Jian Ren looked up in pain. He saw the boy looking down, his dark hair falling. In the cold night, he looked like a demon from hell. The strangest thing was that Bai Yexi wasn’t looking at Jian Ren’s face.
He was only looking at Jian Ren’s hands.
The followers, who were frozen in shock, finally rushed forward to help. Amidst the shouting, the boy didn’t look away. He was still stepping on Jian Ren. The hand bone under his foot was twisting and shaking from the pain.
It was these hands.
Bai Yexi moved his right hand. The silver chain wrapped around his fingers fell down like a shooting star in the moonlight. He reached up, gathered his black hair, and used the silver chain to tie his long hair back.
This was something he was going to deal with seriously.
Bai Yexi looked at Jian Ren’s hands and thought without any emotion:
It was these hands that he called beautiful.
