Tang Ling was brought in by a maid, but she felt extremely uneasy.

After hearing that Xu Qingyan had lost control and brought someone back, then kept that person in the villa and tormented her for an entire week, Tang Ling was certain she was in deep trouble. She had wanted to come that very day to confess and apologize, but she knew Xu Qingyan’s temper. If she had disturbed her back then, Xu Qingyan would have definitely made things worse.

Now that she finally found out Xu Qingyan had come out of her room today, she dared to come and take responsibility.

She heard footsteps coming down the stairs. Tang Ling turned and looked up. Xu Qingyan was walking down alone, wearing pajamas and slippers. Her face was calm as usual, showing no expression that revealed what she was truly feeling. But Tang Ling knew very well that Xu Qingyan was holding in her anger. She just had not exploded yet.

“Qingyan, good morning,” Tang Ling stammered.

Xu Qingyan had been glaring at her since she started walking down. If looks could kill, Tang Ling would have been torn to pieces by now.

Tang Ling’s heart pounded with guilt and fear. She worried that Xu Qingyan might kick her to death right there. She had not even warmed the couch before she quickly shifted to the side and said, “Qingyan, I was wrong. I truly know I was wrong.”

She raised her hands in a defensive posture while trying not to make eye contact. She never expected things between the couple to turn out like this, and even more unexpectedly, that the girl would leave so decisively. Of course Xu Qingyan would be furious.

“Qingyan, I was wrong. Please forgive me this once. I swear I will never dare again.”

Xu Qingyan’s lips twitched. Hearing those words made her even more tempted to hit someone.

“You are already talking about next time? Are you cursing me to never win her back?” she asked coldly.

Tang Ling quickly shook her head. “No, no, that is not what I meant. I just meant I didn’t expect the girl to be so determined. If I had known she was this kind of person, I never would have given you such a bad idea.”

Just hearing that made Xu Qingyan furious all over again. If Tang Ling had not given her that terrible advice, Li Ge would never have tried to run. She would not have needed to lock her up and wear her down for an entire week.

Actually, Li Ge’s heat period only lasted a few days. If Xu Qingyan had not found her in time and brought her back to the villa, and if Li Ge, being an A-level omega, had gone into heat in public, the consequences would have been unthinkable.

Tang Ling was speechless. That was not what she meant at all.

“Qingyan, please. I really do know I was wrong. I swear I will never give unsolicited advice again. I will even go upstairs and kneel to that girl, just to explain that this was not your idea. It was mine. It was all my fault. If I do that, she definitely will not blame you anymore, and you two can go back to the way things were.”

Xu Qingyan became even angrier hearing that. She raised the feather duster and took a step forward.

“You still have the nerve to say that? If not for your terrible idea, none of this would have happened. She would never have wanted to leave me. I would not have…”

Xu Qingyan could not finish the sentence, but Tang Ling decided to tease her.

“Would not have what? You are the one who acted out of line, and now you are blaming it all on me? I admit, yes, I caused some issues between you two, but is it all my fault? I do not think so. Qingyan, let’s be fair. Was it not you who went too far? If you had just acted like a decent person, things would never have reached this point.”

Tang Ling actually had a point. The main issue really was Xu Qingyan’s actions. If she had not used force from the beginning, Li Ge would likely have talked things through. But if Tang Ling had not planted that reckless idea, Xu Qingyan would not have lost control in the first place.

In the end, it really was Tang Ling’s fault.

Xu Qingyan threw the feather duster directly at her. Tang Ling reacted quickly and dodged.

With a loud thud, the feather duster slammed into the table beside her and fell to the floor.

“Qingyan, are you serious?”

“You thought I was just playing?”

Tang Ling swallowed hard. She knew she was in real trouble now. With Xu Qingyan’s temper, there was no way she would let her leave without hitting her at least once.

But if she stopped dodging, she might end up needing to be carried out.

“Qingyan, I truly came to apologize,” Tang Ling said while standing up. “And besides, if I am at fault, it is for wronging that girl, not you. You are the one who treated her so harshly. How can you say it is all my fault?”

She spoke with conviction, and she was not wrong. The only person who had truly suffered in all of this was Li Ge. Xu Qingyan was never the one hurt. She was the one who lost control. If anyone deserved an apology, it was Li Ge, not Xu Qingyan.

Realizing this, Xu Qingyan felt a flicker of shame. Maybe she really had gone too far. Still, she stubbornly held on to her belief that Tang Ling was the one who started it all.

Just as she was about to respond, the sound of a door opening on the third floor caught her attention.

Both of them looked up.

Li Ge stepped out, wearing casual clothes.

She had probably been woken up by the commotion. But Xu Qingyan knew something more. When she had gone downstairs, Li Ge had still been in sleepwear. That meant she had already woken up after she left and had even changed clothes on her own.

Xu Qingyan turned immediately and rushed toward the stairs, speaking in a panic.

“Xiao Ge, why are you up? You have not recovered yet. Go back to bed and rest. If you are hungry, I will have the butler prepare something right away.”

“I am not hungry,” Li Ge replied, her voice hoarse and weak. “I just wanted to walk around a bit.”

Xu Qingyan’s heart sank. She thought Li Ge was determined to leave her.

“But your body is still recovering. The doctor said you need to rest.”

Li Ge interrupted her without hesitation.

“The doctor said I need rest? Said my health is bad? Chairwoman Xu, did you think about that when you were tormenting me these past few days? You are afraid I will run, aren’t you?”

Xu Qingyan did not deny it. She looked at her and asked directly, “If I said yes, would you stay?”

If Li Ge really wanted to leave her, then Xu Corporation meant nothing. She would give it away to anyone, even to that old woman Xu Hong. She did not care anymore.

Li Ge did not respond. She had no intention of talking to Xu Qingyan right now. She just wanted to be alone for a while and go outside for a walk.

But to Xu Qingyan, Li Ge’s silence was a clear sign that she was determined to leave.

Li Ge laughed, her tone laced with disbelief. “Chairwoman Xu, if you had none of those things, then why would I stay with you? Should I follow you and live without food or shelter? Maybe you could survive like that, but I can’t.”

Xu Qingyan replied immediately. “Even without the Xu Corporation, I could start over from the bottom. I would still rise to the top. I could still support you and earn more than enough money for both of us.”

Li Ge almost forgot. With Xu Qingyan’s abilities, she could succeed anywhere. Any employer would value her. She would never have trouble earning a living. In fact, it was Li Ge who needed to seriously consider her own future and what path to take.

“So take me with you if you really don’t want to stay here,” Xu Qingyan said as she gently took Li Ge’s hand and placed it against her cheek. “Let’s start a new life in a new city. We can begin again. Is that alright?”

Her fragile expression and sincere voice made it difficult for Li Ge to turn her down. That only made her more confused. What was it that Xu Qingyan liked about her?

“I’m not leaving,” Li Ge said as she pulled her hand back. “I’ve already been absent from work for seven days. The director and the rest of the team are probably very worried. I need to return to filming.”

Xu Qingyan finally let out a breath of relief after hearing that.

“It’s alright. I already spoke with the director. I told them you were going through your heat period. You can return to the set whenever you’re ready.”

If this had been someone else’s production, Li Ge might have felt bad about the trouble she had caused. But this entire film was funded by Xu Qingyan. No one would dare complain to the investor.

“Alright,” Li Ge replied quietly.

Xu Qingyan, now clearly in a better mood, took her hand and led her downstairs. On the way, she gave the butler instructions to prepare all of Li Ge’s favorite dishes. Li Ge had barely eaten anything these past few days. She was probably starving.

As they came downstairs, Li Ge noticed Tang Ling crouched behind the sofa. It reminded her of the moment at the hotel when she had seen Tang Ling with Xu Qingyan. She had immediately assumed Tang Ling was Xu Qingyan’s new lover. Now, it seemed Xu Qingyan had been telling the truth. She had not gone to the hotel for anything inappropriate.

“Um, you’re Li Ge, right?” Tang Ling asked awkwardly. The situation was truly embarrassing, especially since she had caused most of the trouble. Looking at Li Ge, she felt guilty. “Are you feeling any better?”

The moment she said it, she realized how pointless it sounded. Considering how Xu Qingyan had treated her, there was no way she could be feeling well.

The question made Li Ge think of everything that had happened over the past few days. Her face turned red in an instant.

She looked directly at Tang Ling and said, “Shouldn’t I be thanking you?”

Tang Ling was taken aback. After a moment, she lowered her head and replied with guilt in her voice.

“I’m sorry. I didn’t think Qingyan would go that far with you.”
