“I want to love her like any normal couple would, but she doesn’t want that.”

Xu Qingyan had been holding those words inside for a long time. Now, she finally let them out.

Tang Ling paused for a moment. It was rare to see Xu Qingyan so vulnerable. There was a helplessness in her eyes, and even a trace of frustration. Tang Ling raised her eyebrows in surprise.

“Are you serious right now? Just five minutes ago, you were thinking something completely different. What made you change your mind so quickly, dear President Xu? I have to say, I’m having trouble believing this.”

Xu Qingyan didn’t explain. She rarely explained herself to anyone. If people chose to believe her, that was fine. If they didn’t, that was fine too. Feelings were personal, and she never felt the need to justify hers.

“Think what you want.”

The room went quiet again.

Tang Ling looked at her for a long moment. She was silent, her eyes downcast, her whole posture giving off a wounded air. Tang Ling couldn’t help but feel slightly satisfied.

“Tell me the truth. That little omega probably only agreed to stay with you because you pushed her into it, didn’t she?”

Xu Qingyan stayed silent.

Tang Ling continued. “So everything that has happened so far has been your doing. She never wanted it. You’ve just been fooling yourself this whole time, haven’t you?”

Xu Qingyan didn’t answer.

Tang Ling laughed out loud.

“I knew it. With your personality, how could anyone willingly stay with you? No wonder she doesn’t want to be near you. If I were her, I would have stabbed you in your sleep by now. Seriously, who falls in love like this? You haven’t even confessed to her. If you truly like someone, you need to tell them. You never said you loved her. How is she supposed to know whether you care about her as a person or just want her body?”

“Maybe she thinks all you want is to sleep with her. No matter how nice you are, if every time you see her you can’t keep your hands to yourself, then that’s exactly what you’re telling her. That you only want her physically.”

“Let me ask you something. Put yourself in her place. Say you love someone, but every time you see them, all they do is whisper sweet words and immediately try to sleep with you. How would you feel?”

Xu Qingyan suddenly felt like a light had switched on in her mind.

She understood.

It was true. Every time she was with Li Ge, she couldn’t control herself. Even if she said kind things, even if she tried to prove she wasn’t just using her, in the end, her actions said the opposite. No wonder Li Ge had said those things to her.

“President Xu, how many people have you said that to?”

Xu Qingyan hesitated for a second, then admitted, “Mostly… in bed.”

Tang Ling burst out laughing.

“Have you seriously never heard this before? Never trust what an alpha says in bed. Who knows if they mean it, or if it’s just the pheromones talking. If we believed everything an alpha said in bed, pigs would be flying by now.”

Xu Qingyan knew she was being mocked, but she had no defense.

“And then?”

“And then what?”

“What should I do?”

Tang Ling smirked, then slowly stood up and walked over to stand in front of her.

“President Xu, are you really going to take my advice?”

Xu Qingyan had not intended to at first. Tang Ling always had a scheme behind her words. But she had to admit, what she said made sense. And if it made sense, she was willing to try.

“You actually have a solution?”

Like Tang Ling had said, she could force Li Ge to stay. Lock her up and make sure she never left. But that would only make her rebel even more. If she was pushed hard enough, or if her hatred grew strong enough, there was no telling what she might do.

Xu Qingyan knew that about her. Li Ge might appear gentle and quiet, but deep down she was fierce. If she pushed her too far, Li Ge would definitely fight back.

From how things had been recently, Xu Qingyan could tell the omega knew she was alone now. She had no one to rely on. If she tried to run, she would probably be caught and sent back to her father. Compared to being used and humiliated, staying with Xu Qingyan was the safer option. At least with her, she had money and could live with some dignity.

But if one day she had enough money and power to run, she would leave without hesitation. And if Xu Qingyan tried to force her to stay then, it would only end badly for both of them.

“Do you really have a way to make her fall for me?” Xu Qingyan asked, her voice filled with doubt. “You’re not just saying that to make me feel better, are you?”

Tang Ling looked a little wronged as she said, “Yes, President Xu, you do have someone now. But she didn’t exactly go with you willingly. Which means, technically, you’ve never even been in a real relationship. Sure, I don’t have an omega right now, but I’ve been in love. I’ve got way more experience than you.”

Xu Qingyan grew more doubtful. Was this woman really trustworthy?

Back when they were still in school, Tang Ling had been popular. Her bright personality and smooth talk made her especially likable among the omegas. But she was far too flirtatious. She never had a stable partner and was constantly surrounded by admirers. Xu Qingyan could still remember her saying something completely outrageous: “I’m not a player. Tang Ling patted her chest proudly. “Of course. Do you want to know why none of them lasted? Because I have a hard time choosing. They were all amazing. I couldn’t just pick one. Wouldn’t the others be heartbroken? Don’t you think I was being considerate?”

Xu Qingyan gave her the biggest eye roll she could manage. “Get out.”

Tang Ling walked around behind her and gently patted her on the shoulder. “Come on, don’t be mad. I stayed single just so I wouldn’t hurt anyone. Let’s stop talking about me. Let’s get back to your situation. Are you really sure you want to spend the rest of your life with that girl? No regrets?”

She knew that Xu Qingyan had a marriage arranged since childhood. It had been set up by Xu Hong in secret with an S-class omega named Pei Xiaoyu, who also happened to be Xu Qingyan’s childhood friend. “But her pheromones are compatible with yours,” Tang Ling said. “That girl of yours may have a high-level scent, but she’s not an S-class. And your condition has always been unstable. Didn’t the doctor warn you? If you don’t find someone who can stabilize your pheromones, you might eventually lose control and…”

She trailed off before finishing the sentence, but Xu Qingyan knew exactly what she meant. That only made her more certain that Li Ge was the right one for her.

Xu Qingyan handed over a recent medical report.

Tang Ling took it and read through it. The results showed that Xu Qingyan’s pheromones had stabilized. There were no signs of abnormality or deterioration. That could only mean Li Ge’s scent was a natural match.

Tang Ling narrowed her eyes. “Wait a second. You knew her pheromones matched yours all along, didn’t you? Is that why you started this whole possessive love act?”

“No.”

Xu Qingyan thought for a moment and added, “But she really is a gift from above.”

Tang Ling felt like she had just swallowed a handful of sugar. Her stomach turned. Somehow, she was the one playing the clown after all.

“Ugh. All this sweet talk is going to curse your relationship.”

Xu Qingyan ignored her sarcasm and asked directly, “So, do you actually have a way to make her fall for me? Don’t worry. I’ll make it worth your time.”

“What? If I succeed, are you going to give me Xu Group?”

Tang Ling slung an arm over Xu Qingyan’s shoulder with a grin. “Hey, I’m helping you get a partner for life. That’s priceless. It’s something money can’t buy.”

Xu Qingyan replied with a straight face. “That’s exactly why it’s only happening in your dreams.”
