The Omega Becomes The Zerg Queen - Chapter 6
Chapter 6: The Twins
There was still some distance to the starship.
The cold, iron monster sat silently on the wasteland ahead like a ghost of the cosmos. Even with its weapons retracted, its gargantuan scale exerted a heavy sense of oppression.
Su Lili looked at the jagged ground, then at her own slender, bare legs, feeling a bit troubled. She eventually turned around and reached out to Zephyros.
“Let’s go, Zephyros.”
Perhaps due to the mental soothing he had just received from the Queen, Zephyros felt a sense of peace unprecedented in his life. He gazed at the black-haired, black-eyed girl; her exquisite face shimmered in the night like a deity’s. When she reached out to him, her gaze seemed to pour directly into his heart—or somewhere even deeper.
It was a feeling softer than scalding desire, like the fluffy tail of a cat-eared beast gently brushing against his heart.
He rubbed his fingers together briefly, then leaned down in a posture of humility to lift the newborn King once more, following Lucius toward the ship.
“Please be careful, my King.”
Zephyros Favorability: ★★★★☆ (Heartfelt Affection)
I haven’t even done anything yet, Su Lili thought. Favorability grows so fast with Zephyros…
She looked up at the man’s slight Adam’s apple and his sharp, chiseled jawline. Under such a wild and high-tension exterior, does he actually have such a pure heart?
…
The group reached the starship quickly. Before entering the core area, the adjutant arranged for the Giant-Force Zerg to stay in the lounge.
“Lucky Giant-Force kin, you are truly blessed to have followed her this far,” the adjutant said with a smile that carried a hint of other emotions as he released his mental power. “Please follow me; your lounge is this way.”
But the Giant-Force Zerg did not leave immediately. The innate control high-level species held over low-level ones seemed to lose its efficacy here. A higher instinct drove them; they stood stubbornly in place, their inorganic compound eyes gazing silently at the retreating girl. Only when her figure disappeared around the corner did they retract their gaze and head to the lounge in an orderly fashion.
As they moved inward, security became tighter. Waves of soldiers nearly filled every available space in the core area. They wore black formal military uniforms with leather strap-style high boots. The uniform was a sharp black suit paired with a crisp white shirt and a perfectly tied black necktie.
The golden emblems on their epaulets glittered, each pattern likely representing a different rank. Gorgeous golden tassels hung from the shoulders, and the cuffs and collars were embroidered with golden leaf patterns. The gear was fastened neatly, outlining the soldiers’ robust physiques.
Su Lili even saw some soldiers with chests full of colorful medals. Wait, she thought privately, are Zerg soldiers always this flashy?
Noticing her gaze, Lucius explained: “Soldiers usually wear tactical gear during combat. This formal uniform is generally reserved for major holidays or commissioning ceremonies.” He looked down at the girl in his arms, a hint of a smile in his eyes. “They likely wanted to show you their best selves to welcome you.”
So, they’re all “Queen-cons,” Su Lili thought. She nodded, understanding completely.
Under the uniforms, the soldiers’ physical traits varied. Some had long, thin antennae poking out from their hair, the ends curled into spirals.
“Those are the Maier Tribe; their antennae come from their moth origins,” Lucius explained. “The Maier have extraordinary night vision and are masters of cold weapons.”
Some had membranous wings as tall as a person, brilliantly colored and reflecting dazzling light. Su Lili felt a slight sense of dizziness.
“Careful, my King.” Lucius stepped forward, blocking the view of the wings. “Those are the Barth Tribe, from butterfly origins. The powder on their wings has a hallucinogenic effect to confuse enemies. You are a newborn and easily influenced.”
She saw Scorpion-types with segmented stinger tails, Mantis-types with barbed bone spurs on their arms, and Bee-types with fuzzy antennae…
Thanks to Lucius’s commentary, Su Lili gained a general understanding of the Zerg races. There were seven primary high-level Zerg lineages: Moth, Butterfly, Bee, Scorpion, Spider, Ant, and Fantasy-types.
The first six lineages reproduce naturally via males and females. However, Fantasy-types are born from the Zerg Brood Mother. In the New Era, the Brood Mother occasionally gestates special eggs that lack the traits of the other six races but possess characteristics of mythological creatures.
Because they cannot reproduce naturally, Fantasy-types are rare—sometimes not appearing for centuries. Conversely, every Fantasy-type is born a top-tier warrior of the Zerg.
“What about you? What lineage are you?” Su Lili asked curiously, looking at the light-haired figure. Lucius had no obvious non-human features.
“In response to Your Majesty, I am a Fantasy-type: a Quetzalcoatl. In mythology, a feathered, flying serpent god.” Lucius explained seriously, his expression gentle.
“But why don’t you have any lineage traits?”
Lucius’s eyes flickered with a brief moment of panic and embarrassment. His gentle expression dimmed slightly as he struggled for words. “A high-level Zerg’s traits are not decided by oneself, but by bloodline. My traits are… manifest on my body, not displayed in public.”
Sensing the shift in the young man’s emotions, Lucius’s favorability on the system panel flickered rapidly.
Lucius Favorability: ★★★☆☆ (Close Person) Lucius Favorability: ★★☆☆☆ (Common Friend) Lucius Favorability: ★★★☆☆ (Close Person)
It eventually stabilized at three stars. What is so special about his traits that he cares this much? Su Lili raised an eyebrow, a flicker of curiosity in her eyes. However, now wasn’t the time for an interrogation. She turned to the wings on Zephyros’s back to change the subject.
“And you, Zephyros? Your wings look so majestic. You must be a Fantasy-type too?”
The bone wings on the man’s back unfurled and retracted, vibrating as if showing off. But his face remained calm and steady. “To Your Majesty: my lineage is the Dragon.”
No further explanation was needed. In any mythology, the Dragon was the predator at the top of the food chain. Looking at the dangerous, aggressive aura surrounding the man, Su Lili wasn’t surprised.
…
At the center of the core area was the Queen’s sleeping quarters. Two Zerg immediately stepped forward.
Both wore black-and-white maid outfits. They were smaller than other Zerg, only half a head taller than Su Lili. They had cherry-blossom pink hair and violet slit pupils. Their faces were pure and cute, and the colorful scaly wings on their backs marked them as Barth Tribe members.
Amazingly, the two looked exactly alike. The only difference was their hairstyle: the one on the left had a low ponytail on the left, and the one on the right had a low ponytail on the right. They stood shoulder-to-shoulder, like two sides of a mirror.
“I am Ceral,” said the one on the left softly. “I am Damian,” said the one on the right with a crisper voice.
They bowed in unison: “Greetings, Your Majesty the Queen.”
“We will be in charge of your daily life from now on,” Damian said, tilting his head and playfully winking his right eye. “Just tell us whatever you need.”
“Damian, do not be rude.” Ceral glared at him, pulling him back. “Please forgive him, my King; Damian’s personality is too flighty.”
“We are attendant bugs specially prepared by the Temple for the King. It is our honor to serve you.”
Ceral produced a pair of exquisite indoor shoes. “These were modified based on your measurements observed outside.” He placed them on Su Lili’s feet as if handling a priceless work of art. “My King, please try them.”
The shoes were filled with the down of some creature, fluffy and soft. Stepping into them felt like being wrapped in a marshmallow cloud. Finally able to walk on her own, Su Lili hopped out of Zephyros’s arms and took a few steps. The fit was perfect.
“Thank you,” she praised. “Your craftsmanship is excellent. These are very comfortable.”
Ceral’s face lit up with joy, his violet eyes shining. “Preparing your clothing is my duty, yet you praise me so generously for such a trifle. My King, your kindness overwhelms me.”
“I helped too, my King!” Damian poked his head out, his eyes bright like a kitten begging for a reward. “The Tana beast down inside the shoes is from my personal collection. I was chased across half a planet by that beast to pluck it; it almost pecked me bald!”
Who could refuse a cute kitten asking for affection? Certainly not Su Lili. Damian reminded her of her former Omega classmates. The pressure she’d felt since hatching seemed to be healed by this “cute cat.”
She let out her first smile since being reborn and patted the pink kitten’s head. “Thank you too, Damian. The down is very comfortable.”
Unlike the hard shells of the Zerg, the King’s fingertips were incredibly soft. Damian felt that even the Nata beast down—famed across the galaxy for its dreamlike texture—couldn’t compare to the feeling of the King stroking his head.
The twins lowered their heads and exchanged a look.
“You felt it too, Ceral?” “Yeah. Good job.”
However… “The King seems to think we are females.” “Should we tell her?”
