The Omega Becomes The Zerg Queen - Chapter 17
Chapter 17: Two Lucky Winners
Facing the camera, Su Lili began reading the speech she had prepared earlier. The young Queen’s speaking pace was not fast; every word was articulated clearly and accurately. The subjects’ immense love for her made even this official speech, filled with social platitudes, sound as beautiful as poetry.
Throughout the galaxy, Zerg of all sizes focused their gazes on the Queen’s serious face through the livestream lens. Their ears reddened and their heads spun; in their dazed state, they managed to grasp the core message: the Queen was comforting them, she was healthy, and they shouldn’t worry too much.
Indeed.
Su Lili had no intention of telling the Zerg people the truth.
The Zerg had been without a Queen for three hundred years. For these three centuries, they had lived in pain and despair, nearly pushed to collapse by their tyrannical genes. Now that a new Queen had been born, the dying embers in their hearts had been reignited. If she were to tell them now that the new Queen’s body was fragile and her life was at risk at any moment, it would undoubtedly plunge them into a deeper, darker despair.
Therefore, she was “healthy.”
Beneath the crown, the girl’s lips curled into a sly smile. She merely had a low constitution grade; if judged by E-grade standards, she was indeed perfectly healthy.
After the official speech concluded, it was time for the moment all Zerg had been waiting for: the lottery.
According to the rules, the Queen would draw three lucky winners from the applicants to have a three-minute voice-link conversation.
The Zerg in front of their screens straightened up one after another, adjusting their specially crafted looks over and over again. Even with only a one-in-a-billion chance, they had to maintain their best image.
Within the livestream interface, a colorful gift box icon tied with ribbons appeared. Numbers with no visible beginning or end were scrolling at an incredible speed.
“Is anyone still signing up?”
Su Lili’s finger hovered over the gift box, tapping lightly in the air a few times from a distance.
“Then let’s wait three more seconds.”
She held up her fingers for the countdown.
“Three.”
“Two.”
“One.”
Her slender white finger tapped down with just the right amount of pressure.
The one-in-hundreds-of-billions lucky winners were born.
Appearing on the other side of the camera was a glamorous female. Her red hair was styled in large waves, her striking face wore exquisite makeup, and her figure was proud and statuesque. She wore a low-cut black formal dress, her softness nearly spilling from the bodice.
“Your Majesty, Barbara sends her greetings.” Barbara blew a kiss to the camera and stepped back two paces to bow. Only then did Su Lili realize that beneath her sexy upper body were eight furry spider legs.
The angle of the bow made the two mounds on her chest look even more startling. Su Lili forced herself to look away, her face turning red in spite of herself.
Seeming to notice her embarrassment, Barbara let out a low laugh, a finger with a crimson nail tracing the corner of her mouth. “My King, you are truly adorable.”
The King links with a bug, the King is good! The bug laughs at the King, the bug is bad!
But the way the King is blushing is so cute!
Damn, she’s actually enjoying this.
So what? She’s just a female.
Don’t you know the ‘Black Widow’ who is infamous among the spider-types?
This one once physically tore apart five High-tier males who tried to hit on her.
“Heh, who says a female can’t do it?” Barbara glanced contemptuously at the bullet comments. She propped her chin up with a sharp fingernail, her eyes like silk as she looked at the King through the lens. “My King, what do you think?”
“…”
Su Lili was stunned for three seconds by this unconventional statement, her lips trembling as she struggled for an answer. In her understanding, Zerg females were similar to the Omegas of Blue Star. Was this sister asking for her opinion on an O-O relationship?
She naturally supported freedom of orientation and preference, but she had always been a “straight” O. Even though this sister was big, tender, and white… Wait, stop, don’t overthink it. Su Lili rubbed her burning cheeks, her guilty gaze flickering away.
“Hehe.”
Another light laugh came from the other side, the sexy female voice surrounding her like soft spider silk.
Fortunately, three minutes is a very short time. As soon as the timer hit zero, the link was automatically disconnected. On the surface, it looked like the call ended before the Queen could even answer.
Safe, safe.
Su Lili quietly squeezed her fingers, silently praying that the next bug drawn would ask more normal questions.
The colorful gift box was opened again. This time, the one appearing in the livestream was a male Moth-type.
He wore a tattered, Greek-style cloth robe, looking like a wandering ascetic. Above his lead-gray “wolf-cut” hair grew two lead-gray, feathery antennae. With pale skin and lips almost devoid of color, his entire person looked very desaturated—a clean, delicate appearance. His black pupils were startlingly large, occupying almost the entire socket. Unlike Su Lili’s black eyes, which always sparkled with starlight, his pupils were like black holes in the universe, devoid of any light, staring fixedly at the camera.
That was not a gaze a living being should have, nor was it a gaze directed at a living being.
Not to mention, the person opposite him was the King.
What is this kid so arrogant about?
Facing the King with that posture? Disrespectful!
Who does he think he is showing that face to the King?
Aaaaaah, how did HE get picked? Why wasn’t it me?
Expel him from the moth species! We moths don’t have such tactless bugs!
The bullet comments were filled with public outrage, everyone annoyed by his cold demeanor.
“Hello?”
Seeing the chaos in the comments, Su Lili took the initiative to speak tentatively.
“…”
The moth-type in the lens pursed his pale lips, then opened them, repeating the motion a few times as if trying to speak, but no sound ever came out.
Turns out he’s mute.
Zerg medicine has advanced so much, how can there still be a bug with such a glaring physical defect? Which remote trash planet is he from?
Damaged vocal cords can be treated at any medical center, right?
Even if he’s mute, so what? Being mute doesn’t give him the right to be disrespectful to the King.
The hollow black pupils flickered.
Through the comments, Jesar also realized that his reactions were very strange to outsiders. After all, no one could understand how an adult bug with no physical defects could fail at something as simple as speaking.
For the first time in his life, he felt shame.
He was indeed a freak in the eyes of the Maer tribe. Since birth, Jesar had never spoken. He usually wore a cold, emotionless expression; if he wasn’t on a mission, he lived alone and never interacted with anyone. Until today, he had been happy in his solitude, enjoying his isolation. Everything around him was merely cosmic dust to be ignored.
The strongest among the moth-types were the Maer tribe, and he was the strongest moth of the new generation. Moths are naturally drawn to light; in his eyes, the King was like a flame. He only wanted to get closer, closer—even if he turned to ash in the fire.
He wanted to tell the King that he was actually very powerful. His body could traverse the darkest wormholes, no one could defeat him with cold weapons, and his account held tens of billions of Star Credits earned from black-market missions. Those tight defenses and armaments were as thin as paper before him. He wasn’t some “genetically defective bug born in a corner” like those people said.
Most importantly, he wanted to tell the King that he was not the “disrespectful person” his jealous detractors claimed.
He wanted to personally declare his loyalty and love to the King.
Jesar tried to open his mouth a few more times, his throat emitting a few muffled, indistinct “clucking” syllables.
