The Omega Becomes The Zerg Queen - Chapter 11
Chapter 11: Mother
With hearts full of trepidation, the group escorted the new Queen to the Hive.
The Hive was aptly named; it was a massive, bird-nest-shaped structure, high at the edges and sunken in the middle. Its exterior was covered in thick, dark-brown protruding tentacles that looked like tree roots or human veins.
As she drew closer, Su Lili could even see these lines pulsing slightly, as if they were breathing.
The Hive is alive. Anyone seeing this would be absolutely certain of that.
Seeming to sense her arrival, the lines receded from the exterior. The black inner wall became transparent before Su Lili, leaving an opening just large enough for one person to pass through.
Su Lili swallowed hard and stepped inside cautiously.
Inside the Hive, there were even more twisting tentacles. The further she went, the more active they became. Their pulsing grew more pronounced; some tentacles even swayed independently in the air as if waving hello.
One of the thickest tentacles wriggled its way in front of the girl. Its tip pointed downward, flattened out, and then remained perfectly still.
“Are you inviting me to hold it?” Su Lili couldn’t help but ask.
The tip of the tentacle waved up and down several times, as if nodding.
Su Lili placed her hand upon it.
A massive surge of spiritual power linked to her through the tentacle. As if afraid of startling her, this spiritual power first touched Su Lili’s spiritual sea with feather-light gentleness. Only after confirming she had no adverse reaction did it link with her firmly.
Spiritual power cannot be faked.
Sincere emotions of tenderness, inclusivity, maternal love, and concern flowed through the link, quietly helping her comb through her messy spiritual sea. The warmth of it caused Su Lili to shed tears.
“Mother…” she heard herself murmur.
As an Omega, she had been taken to the Omega Protection Association to be raised from a young age. Although the godfathers and servants there took good care of her, they treated it more like a job—viewing her as a vital asset of the Blue Star rather than a person to be truly loved.
But the spiritual power emanating from the Hive was so genuine. The concern and hope of a mother for her young child were passed over without reservation, allowing Su Lili to feel the long-lost warmth of family.
Not understanding why the child returning home was weeping, the Hive felt a trace of panic.
Some tentacles gently wiped the tears from the girl’s eyes; some brushed through her long hair; others lightly patted her back.
“I am not actually…” the girl choked out, wanting to explain her origins.
“No matter where you come from, you are my child.”
The Hive was so inclusive. Like a mother coaxing a grieving toddler, it used both spiritual power and physical actions to soothe the child before it.
Don’t be afraid. You are home.
But the more tender and loving the Hive was, the larger Su Lili’s tears became. She couldn’t help but bury herself in the tentacles, her tears flowing like a flood.
The trepidation and unease of coming to a new world, the anxiety that her identity wouldn’t be recognized—in this moment, all of it was released through her tears.
This place, the Zerg, would be her race from now on.
And the Hive was her home.
Main Quest: Ascend the Throne (20/100) Progress: Subjects and King are a mutual journey. Now that you have a greater sense of belonging to the Zerg, you will surely become a more qualified Queen.
Like a child returning home from school to share their day with their mother, the girl leaned against the clusters of tentacles and told the Hive about her predicament.
“Milk?” A few tentacles lifted several drops of pale yellow, pearl-like liquid from the depths, offering them to Su Lili’s lips like a precious treasure.
“This is all that remains,” the Hive explained to Su Lili.
“Milk” was not produced naturally; it was a nutrient secreted by the Hive after being stimulated by a Royal Egg. But because Su Lili had not been born within the Hive, the Hive’s instincts had not sensed the egg’s presence, failing to trigger the lactation instinct. These few drops were leftovers from the birth of the previous Queen.
Sensing it couldn’t help more, the tentacles drooped somewhat despondently.
“It’s okay.” Su Lili took the “Milk” and swallowed it. This was already wonderful. Compared to having nothing, these few drops might be her lifeline.
As she consumed it, her personal profile on the system panel updated.
-
Name: Su Lili
-
Race: Zerg Queen / OMEGA
-
Constitution: D-grade (With a constitution at the bottom of the Zerg barrel, you might be able to win a fight against a Federation toddler.)
-
Spiritual Power: SSS-grade (Congratulations, your spiritual power is unrivaled.)
-
Health: 20% (Warning: Health is critically low; your life is in danger at any time.)
-
D-grade Spiritual Power Usage: 100%
The “Milk” had not only improved her constitution but also fully replenished her spiritual power usage.
“It actually worked!” Su Lili exclaimed in surprise.
With a D-grade constitution, she could now use B-grade spiritual power. Compared to her original E-grade status, this provided a much greater sense of security. Of course, it was still incomparable to the “average” Zerg, who were all like demigods. But for a delicately raised Omega, her current physical state was better than ever. The girl was now full of energy.
Knowing their role was limited, the tentacles pushed Su Lili toward the exit. No matter how reluctant, a mother must learn to let go; only outside would there be more opportunity and hope.
As soon as the girl left the Hive, she was surrounded by the Zerg waiting outside. They escorted her to the Medical Institute; the medical officers were desperate to record new data on what changes those few drops of “Milk” would bring to the King’s body.
“The good news is that the ‘Milk’ indeed improved the King’s condition, but the quantity was too scarce to fully heal her,” said the same medical officer, buried in pages of data reports without looking up. “Previously, the King’s evaluation was E-grade, but with these drops, it has reached D-grade.”
“As long as the King does not recklessly use her spiritual power, she can maintain the balance between her body and spirit. There is no immediate danger to her life.”
“I suggest the King looks for ‘Honey Brewing’ while undergoing physical training. Once her condition is stable, she can proceed with further spiritual training.”
D-grade… Lucius repeated the data to himself. The Queen that the Zerg had awaited for two hundred years should have been pampered by the entire race, sitting upon a throne overlooking the stars, traveling the galaxy at will. Instead, she had a mere D-grade body and had to undergo grueling training just to stay alive.
He gazed at the Queen. Her slender body was soft, and her skin was so delicate it looked like it could be bruised by a touch.
The King was so pitiable and lovely. The youth’s emerald eyes were full of pity. He wanted to protect her, to serve her, to…
To “Brew Honey” for her.
Lucius had never cared what sub-species he belonged to, but now he craved it. If only he were of the Bee-type. If he were, his honey chamber could “Brew Honey” for the King—and only for the King.
It wasn’t just about the honey healing her. The mere thought of the honey brewed from his own body being consumed by the King, as if he were becoming one with her, made the youth feel as hot as flowing lava.
But unfortunately, he was not of the Bee-type. And because of his origin traits, his body was… unique. How could a Zerg like him dare to dream of approaching the King? All he could do was handle these tedious Zerg affairs so she had no worries.
Hiding the bitterness in his eyes, Lucius thought silently.
“Honey Brewing…” Zephyrus mused. It seemed this was the only choice left. Aside from Ferran, there was no other suitable candidate.
“I know who can brew honey.” Zephyrus’s words hit everyone’s hearts like a heavy stone.
“Who?” A flame of hope ignited in the eyes of the crowd. Nothing was more important than the Queen’s safety.
“Ferran. He has a honey chamber.” Zephyrus spoke the name with a steady gaze.
Ferran. It was actually Ferran. The Zerg present had varying expressions; for a moment, no one spoke.
Seeing their strange reactions, Su Lili became curious. “Ferran? Who is that? Why have I never heard his name?”
“Ferran was the former Commander of the Third Legion…” Zephyrus began to explain in detail.
“Can ‘Honey Brewing’ really improve my constitution?” Su Lili confirmed with the system.
Respected Host, your weakness is due to being a visitor from another world. Aside from the natural ‘Milk’ of the Hive, ‘Honey Brewing’ cannot raise your constitution grade.
However, consuming ‘Honey Brewing’ can replenish your spiritual power usage.the system explained coldly.
The girl nodded. Spiritual power was like a mana bar—it depleted as she used it. “Honey Brewing” was like a mana potion to help her refill it.
I have to save this injured little bee, Su Lili thought. Although she knew the combat power of a Third Legion Commander was nothing to scoff at, she couldn’t help but imagine a pitiful little bee fainted on the ground.
She wanted to release him. Not just because he was likely one of the character cards, but because she couldn’t bear the thought of a decorated Commander being imprisoned in the dark, sunless Black Prison.
“But his spiritual sea is extremely unstable. There is a risk of a riot at any time. What if he harms you?” Lucius refused solemnly.
“I can treat him,” the girl replied as if it were the most natural thing in the world. With the system’s help, she could precisely regulate her spiritual power usage.
“Did you not hear the medical officer’s advice? You should not use your spiritual power right now.” For once, a hint of anger flickered in the youth’s voice as he emphasized, “Nothing is more important than your health.”
He paused, his tone almost pleading. “My King, I beg you to reconsider.”
