- Chapter 1 - On the Matter of Waking Up Imprisoned
Ye Chen felt as though he were waking from a long nightmare. He snapped his eyes open, only to be met by a void of pitch-black darkness, he couldn’t see a single thing.
It seemed he had been lying down for a long time. His entire body felt like ice, his limbs were stiff, and he was even shivering uncontrollably.
Where is this?
And what happened?
His mind was a haze of confusion. Once the numbness in his limbs faded slightly, Ye Chen sat up, intending to feel out his surroundings. But almost the moment he rose, a wave of dizziness washed over him.
It felt terrible, what on earth had happened?
Still, he managed to gather some information. Ice. Before waking up, he had been lying on a massive slab of ice. But he was already at the Golden Core stage, how could ordinary ice make him feel this cold?
At that thought, Ye Chen focused his mind to inspect his dantian and meridians, only to be struck by a jolt of alarm, his dantian had been firmly sealed. He couldn’t manifest even a flicker of spiritual energy.
What exactly is going on?
Ye Chen knit his brows and began to recall the events leading up to his loss of consciousness. It would have been better if he hadn’t, once he started thinking, he felt even more miserable.
Ye Chen was born into a cultivation clan. The family used to be powerful, but starting from his grandfather’s generation, it had begun its decline. By the time Ye Chen was born, the strongest person in the family was a mere Foundation Establishment cultivator.
Ye Chen was a transmigrator. After understanding his family’s situation and learning he had a fiancée, certain associations began to crop up in his mind.
For example, you know… like one of those “Broken Engagement” genre protagonists from Qidian?
As it turned out, Ye Chen’s intuition was spot on.
He was born with clogged meridians and was unable to cultivate. Thus, when he was sixteen, his fiancée came to the door to break the engagement. That very night, Ye Chen encountered Sui Yueheng by the stream, who was sealed inside a ring.
The subsequent development followed the classic, familiar script:
Life turned around, leveling up fast. Soaring to the skies, enemies surpassed. The hero saves the beauty, provoking the rich heirs. He slaughters his way through, till the old monsters appear.
…Ahem, let’s not recite the rest!
But!
Ye Chen’s expression grew complicated as he recalled the events of a few days ago. That secret realm… that godforsaken secret realm! You couldn’t get out unless you confessed to the person you liked.
He didn’t have anyone he liked, so he could have left directly, but he couldn’t abandon his brothers! And then… his brothers all confessed to him?!
At that moment, only one thought occupied Ye Chen’s mind: Has this generation of underlings been hit with a curse?
He was supposed to be the man who became the big boss of the cultivation world. How did his script suddenly turn into something from Jinjiang?
If it were a Jinjiang romance novel, he might have accepted it, since Jinjiang male leads often get much better treatment than Qidian ones. Regardless of the genre, he would have just turned it into a “sweet and pampered” power fantasy script.
But this situation was clearly wrong!
For a split second, Ye Chen even wondered if his underlings were all women dressed as men. But looking at their physiques, most of which were taller and sturdier than his own, he silently abandoned that thought. He only wanted to escape.
Despite his current uncertain plight and sealed cultivation, recalling that scene made Ye Chen silently cover his face, his heart full of frantic, unprintable curses.
It was a literal living nightmare!
Ye Chen took a deep breath, barely steadying his heart, and continued to look back. After leaving the secret realm, he had wanted to find a place to be alone for a bit.
Well… first, he would help his master, Sui Yueheng, reshape a physical body. Then he would go into secluded cultivation for a while to prepare for the Nascent Soul lightning tribulation.
The reason he had entered that secret realm was for a specific spiritual medicine. Ye Chen prided himself on repaying kindness, and his master’s grace toward him was as heavy as a mountain. After forming his Core, he had begun searching for the spiritual materials needed to reshape his master’s body.
But just as the reshaping was completed.
Ye Chen’s expression darkened further. At that time.
Spiritual energy, so dense it had almost solidified, flowed along the lines of the pre-prepared formation. Under his almost reckless expenditure of resources, a human silhouette was slowly outlined in the void.
Millennial Jade Marrow transformed into snow-white bone, while Golden Silk wrapped in spiritual mist condensed into muscle. Celestial materials that had taken over a decade of hardship to find were consumed rapidly, but Ye Chen felt no sting of regret. He only felt joy.
Everything was progressing smoothly. Despite the bizarre events he had just experienced, he was finally going to see his master in the flesh.
To Ye Chen, his master was the most important person in the world, even more so than his parents. After all, back then, when everyone regarded him as a useless person and his family had completely abandoned him, only his master had stayed by his side.
Only his master… Sui Yueheng…
Even when Sui Yueheng himself was barely holding on, he never thought of giving up on him. To help his master return to life, everything was worth it!
Under Ye Chen’s expectant gaze, the flames brought by the Phoenix Essence Blood died down, and the body forged from spiritual materials slowly opened its eyes.
The moment those eyes fully opened, it was as if a soul had been breathed into them, a spiritual light swirled within the pupils. Dark hair fell loosely, and combined with the lingering radiance of the spiritual materials surrounding him, he looked like a naturally born immortal fetus.
Ye Chen’s heart surged with emotion. Then, this “immortal fetus” walked right up to him.
Ye Chen was prepared for a long-awaited scene of a kind master and a filial disciple, and then… having exhausted all his spiritual energy, he was pinned against the wall and forcibly kissed.
Ye Chen: “…”
No way… surely not?
The last image in his memory was Sui Yueheng looking at him with bloodshot eyes, a gaze that was both resentful and tender.
“Chen’er… when they said they liked you, I was so jealous… what right do they have?”
“?” Ye Chen had wondered. Did something go wrong with the resurrection? Is his brain broken?
Sui Yueheng’s kiss was urgent and heavy, wrapped in a scorching heat. His hand firmly gripped the back of Ye Chen’s neck, pinning him ruthlessly against the cold stone wall, letting the slight chill form a sharp contrast with the heat between their lips.
Ye Chen had frozen.
His body, drained of spiritual energy, didn’t even have the strength to struggle. His constitution had been poor since childhood, and body-tempering had little effect, so he had neglected that area. In that moment, he regretted it more than ever before.
But no matter how much he regretted it, it was useless. He could only clearly feel the other man prying open his teeth, overbearingly and obsessively invading every inch of his breath.
Sui Yueheng’s nose brushed against his cheek, his breath hot against his ear. “I wasn’t the first to say I like you… a pity…”
“But, Chen’er, you like me too, right? We will be together… forever and ever…”
His thoughts snapped back to the present. Ye Chen gasped, feeling like his entire world had collapsed.
What kind of mess was this!
Ye Chen felt he could no longer maintain his “respect for the master and the path,” because his master wasn’t a proper master at all! He was locked up here with his dantian sealed, surely this was Sui Yueheng’s doing?
Ye Chen wanted to cry but had no tears. If it really was him… then he was doomed!
Firstly, his master’s original cultivation was at the Soul Transformation stage. Secondly, Sui Yueheng knew everything Ye Chen knew, since he had taught him most of it, which meant Ye Chen had no hidden trump cards. Finally, even if someone noticed he was missing and came looking, Sui Yueheng, as his master, could easily dismiss them.
Ye Chen felt beyond help. Shaking the chains on his body, he felt even worse. Millennial Dark Iron infused with over a hundred charms… this thing would be more than enough to lock him down even at his full strength!

What kind of novel was he in, exactly? Ye Chen felt like dying.
Time returned to the present.
Just as he was thinking this, a “rumble” suddenly came from nearby. A beam of light cut through the darkness, casting a tall shadow.
Ye Chen squinted uncomfortably against the light, only then realizing he was in an ice chamber. Not just the bed, but the floor and walls were all made of permafrost. No wonder the temperature was so low.
And the person standing at the door.
He stood against the light, dressed in a moon-white robe. His dark hair was simply tied with a plain silver hairpin, with a few strands falling over his shoulders. The bridge of his nose revealed a sharp, cold contour in the shadows, and the faint shadow of his lashes obscured the emotions in his eyes, exuding an air of distant detachment.
He looked cold and self-contained. Where was the madness Ye Chen had seen before losing consciousness? He looked exactly like the master in Ye Chen’s memory.
Ye Chen was dazed for a moment, his heart a chaotic mix of emotions. Ultimately, those feelings were completely crowded out by anger and disappointment.
“Master… Sui Yueheng, what exactly are you trying to do?”
The door to the ice chamber closed. In the ensuing silence, only the sound of footsteps rang out.
As Sui Yueheng approached, Ye Chen’s body immediately tensed up. Though he was weak and devoid of spiritual energy, he still took a defensive stance.
Facing this man, his subconscious instinct was to call him “Master,” but he quickly corrected himself, unwilling to acknowledge that the person capable of this was his master. His master wouldn’t be this kind of person.
Ye Chen lowered his head, his eyes blinking rapidly to hide the disappointment and pain within. He liked his master, but that was the affection between a disciple and a teacher. Just as he liked his group of underlings, but that was the affection between friends.
They liked him… but he couldn’t like them back. This meant he had lost many, many friends, and he had lost the master he had trusted implicitly all this time.
Ye Chen couldn’t understand why it had turned out like this. He only knew that he was truly miserable right now. The one person he used to be able to confide in without reservation… was gone.
Why… everything had been going so well. He had a master, he had friends, a wide network, and a good reputation in the cultivation world. But in an instant, he seemed to have lost everything.
A sharp pang of pain shot through his heart. Ye Chen gave a bitter laugh, feeling like he was nothing more than a joke. When he raised his head again, his eyes held nothing but anger. He glared at Sui Yueheng as if looking at an incomprehensible madman.
Sui Yueheng walked over slowly. It was as if he didn’t see the fury on Ye Chen’s face. Instead, he let out a low chuckle. After staring at him for a long while, he leaned in close. A trace of a smile appeared on his face as he reached out to tilt Ye Chen’s chin up.
“You ask me… what I want to do?”
