The Noble Lady Without Magic Aims to Become an Adventurer! - Chapter 84
“Good Morning”
As I opened the door and greeted them, Captain Jennise and Vice-Captain Marco were busy with their administrative tasks. It seemed that everyone else was out today.
“Good morning, Marloa. Without delay, I’d like you to have Marco evaluate your swordsmanship today,” the captain said without looking up, issuing the directive.
“Understood,” I replied.
The towering stack of documents on the captain’s desk was truly intimidating. The focused and intense expression on her face made her seem a bit scary.
On the other hand, Vice-Captain Marco maintained a calm demeanor as he efficiently worked through his documents, his movements so quick that his hands were a blur due to the use of acceleration magic.
Without breaking his calm expression, Marco set aside his work and led me to the training grounds.
“Marloa, until the academy’s graduation ceremony, you’ll be stationed here with the Zero Knights. After the ceremony, you’ll head to Levain. You understand that, don’t you?”
“Yes, I understand. But why is the academy graduation ceremony relevant?”
“That’s likely a consideration by the captain. A graduation ceremony happens only once in a lifetime. Once you begin your work as an adventurer under Levain, you probably won’t have many opportunities to return to the royal capital.”
“I see,” I nodded, finding his explanation reasonable.
“Currently, we refer to you as Marloa, but since you’ll be working as an adventurer, we’ll start calling you ‘Roa.’ You’ll generally follow Levain’s instructions, but in the event of an emergency, we’ll contact you via the ear cuff you’re wearing.”
“How do I use it?”
“Just touch the magic stone and flow your magic into it. Your voice will reach all the knights.”
To demonstrate, Marco touched the magic stone on the ear cuff and began speaking. His voice came through crystal clear in my ear.
“Does this transmit to all members?” I asked.
“Yes, it does. Unlike magical birds or letters, it delivers your voice instantly, but since it transmits to everyone wearing an ear cuff, it’s not the most convenient. Future improvements might allow selective communication with specific individuals.”
I see, broadcasting to dozens of people does seem like it could cause some issues.
“Now then, Roa, I’d like to assess your swordsmanship. Ready your weapon,” Marco said, drawing his sword from its sheath.
In contrast to his earlier calm demeanor, I now felt an imposing pressure emanating from him. If I underestimated him, I would be defeated in no time.
I stepped back to create some distance while drawing my sword.
After a brief moment of staring each other down, Marco suddenly surged into my range and slashed.
I dodged and countered, but my attack was also skillfully avoided. This time, I went on the offensive, and Marco blocked my strike with his sword.
After several exchanges, I launched another attack, which he parried. As he did, I swiftly attempted a leg sweep, but he evaded it. Taking advantage of the opening, I threw a hidden dagger from my other hand.
“Hmm, that’s enough. You’re skilled with throwing weapons as well. Impressive. Your technique is good, but you should consider switching to a different dagger. Let’s head back to the room,” Marco said, sheathing his sword and waiting for me.
Caught off guard by the sudden end to the session, I sheathed my sword, retrieved the dagger embedded in the wall, and re-equipped it. Perhaps this dagger isn’t ideal for throwing?
This dagger was designed for fighting monsters, so its blade is likely larger than other throwing knives. It’s also a beginner’s weapon, so maybe it’s time for an upgrade.
When I returned to the room, I noticed a desk had been prepared for me.
