The Noble Lady Without Magic Aims to Become an Adventurer! - Chapter 78
“A letter from the royal palace…?”
“My lady, it’s not the season for balls or tea parties, is it?”
“That’s right. Could it be about an escort mission somewhere?”
Both Fars and I tilted our heads in puzzlement as we looked at the summons written in the letter. Since Prince Sherman hasn’t been attending the academy, I couldn’t ask him about it there either.
There’s no helping it. Even though it’s out of season, I’ll have to visit the royal palace. The day after I informed my father about the summons, I prepared to head to the castle.
Letters from the royal palace usually only pertain to escort duties. As I was about to leave, my father insisted that I attend as a lady of the marquis family and wear a dress.
Anna nodded in agreement, as if it were only natural. A dress had already been prepared for me, so I changed into it and set off for the palace.
“I’m off.”
“Safe travels, my lady.”
I climbed into the carriage with Otto seeing me off. Though I was sulking about being forced to wear a dress, Fars saw my dissatisfied expression and gave me a wry smile, as if to say, “There’s no helping it.”
After arriving at the palace, a royal attendant guided us as we began walking.
Today’s meeting seemed to be in the audience chamber. It might mean this is something different from the usual.
With Fars by my side in attendant mode, we walked toward the audience chamber, both feeling unusually tense.
“The Marquis’ daughter, Marloa Efsée, has arrived,” announced the royal attendant.
As the doors opened, I walked forward and greeted the King. Then, as instructed, everyone except me left the room, and Fars was asked to wait outside.
“At the command of His Majesty, the Sun of our Kingdom, I have come as summoned.”
“It has been some time, Lady Marloa. I’ve also heard of Fars’ accomplishments. Having such exceptional individuals in our kingdom makes me proud.”
“I am deeply honored by your words.”
“No need for such formalities. Today, I summoned you to discuss your plans after graduation. I hear you intend to set off on adventures with Revien after completing your studies. However, have you considered serving as an aide or escort to Prince Sherman or Prince Iron instead?”
“I must apologize, Your Majesty. I believe that having someone without significant magical power serve so openly would draw objections from other nobles.
Additionally, I have not graduated from the administrative department, and there are many other capable officials. Forcing my way into such a position would only bring criticism upon my family. Having a young noblewoman constantly by the prince’s side would undoubtedly lead to unnecessary speculation.”
After I explained my reasons for declining, His Majesty chuckled softly.
“Most noblewomen would jump at the chance to serve a prince, yet you decline without
hesitation. That’s precisely what makes you stand out, Lady Marloa. Well then, let’s get to the main topic. You’re aware that Revien, while working as an adventurer, also scouts exceptional individuals across the kingdom, correct?”
At the King’s words, I nodded.
“Revien is part of a royal department under my direct command. He’s one of those responsible for scouting talents. Typically, this work is done in pairs, but due to Revien’s extraordinary skills, he’s been working alone. Lady Marloa, if you wish to become an adventurer alongside Revien, how about joining the royal department and assisting him?”
“…If Professor Revien would accept me, I would gladly consider it.”
I hesitated briefly at the idea of working directly for the King but thought it might be worthwhile if it meant assisting Professor Revien.
“Revien would have no objections. After all, his direct superior is me.”
“I humbly accept the position.”
“Good, good. In that case, I’ll arrange for you to meet with members of the department soon. Further details will follow.”
“Understood, Your Majesty.”
The King smiled and nodded before clapping his hands, signaling the attendants to re-enter the room.
As the attendants came in, I felt a faint movement behind me, though the attendants didn’t seem to pay it any mind. They poured tea and served it graciously.
After drinking the tea with gratitude, I returned to the mansion.
“Lady Marloa, what was the discussion about?”
In my room, Fars asked me with concern.
“They asked about my plans after graduation. They suggested serving as an aide to the prince, but I declined.”
“I see. But that wasn’t all, was it?”
“No, it wasn’t. I’ll tell you the details once my father grants permission. I’m not sure how much I’m allowed to say right now.”
“Understood. But I’m worried. You tend to take risks when I’m not around, Lady Marloa.”
“Fufu, you know me well. But don’t worry—I’m not a child anymore.”
“That’s true. Ah, my lady, a message has arrived. The Marquis has requested your presence.”
“I’ll head there right away.”
After responding to the Marquis’ communication, Fars switched into attendant mode and followed me out.
