The Noble Lady Without Magic Aims to Become an Adventurer! - Chapter 76
“Otto, I’m home.”
“Welcome back, My Lady.”
“Has Fars returned yet?”
“No, I believe he’s still at the club.”
“I see. While I wait for him, I’d like to take a bath.”
“Understood.”
I waited in my room for a while until the bath was ready, and I took my time enjoying the warm water. By the time I finished bathing and was leisurely sipping some fruit water, Fars had returned to the estate. Judging by his swift change into his attendant uniform before coming to my room, he must have been in quite a hurry.
“Welcome back, Fars. How was the knights’ club after so long?”
Fars gave a sly smile.
“You just wanted to know what happened to those guys, didn’t you?”
“Fufu, I have no idea what you mean.”
“When I went there today, more than half of the upperclassmen were gone. Most of the first- and second-years were still there since their training wasn’t as harsh, but the seniors… let’s just say many didn’t make it through. Those who returned from the training camp seemed like completely different people. I wonder what kind of hellish training they endured.”
“Oh? And what about those who quit?”
“They’re technically still in the knight department, but most of them are pampered nobles’ sons. They’ll probably return to their territories after graduating. Even if they become knights, they won’t be eligible for any notable positions since their evaluations by the royal knights’ corps are abysmal. You know, I’d love to go camping with the knights and train directly under the captain.”
Fars seemed less concerned about the seniors’ fate and more envious of the opportunity to train alongside active royal knights.
But losing more than half of the upperclassmen? That’s appalling. Truly a lack of backbone.
“First, you’d need to match Reco in a one-on-one fight before even dreaming of getting the captain’s attention,” I teased.
“Yeah, you’re probably right. Reco looks deceptively weak, but he’s ridiculously strong.”
“Exactly. Even after training hard for a year and a half, the gap between us and Reco still feels so vast. It’s frustrating.”
During our time in the village, Reco had trained us rigorously. We’d learned plenty, and now it was essential to practice before those lessons faded.
The next day, we began basic training to refine our movements, attended academy classes, studied in the afternoons, and continued visiting the royal palace. Fars spent his afternoons at the knights’ club, practicing drills passed down from the royal knight corps alongside his peers.
One afternoon: “Marloa, sorry to keep you waiting. Your sword is ready. Come pick it up.”
“Really, Marge? I’ll head over right away!”
Fars had received the same notification and decided to skip the knights’ club to accompany me to Marge’s shop.
“I can’t wait to see what kind of sword it is. I’m so excited!”
“Me too! If it’s anything like the sharpening job Marge did last time, this’ll be incredible. Remember how that sword cleaved monsters in half like butter?”
We entered the shop to find Marge sipping a drink while chatting with a stunningly beautiful woman.
“Marge, I’ll leave it to you, then,” the woman said before gracefully leaving the shop.
“Ah, Marloa, Fars. Sorry to keep you waiting.”
Marge opened a wooden box on the counter and pulled out two swords. She handed Fars a beautifully adorned weapon inspired by a Zweihander, and gave me an elegant hunting sword adorned with intricate engravings and decorations.
“This is amazing! It’s so light!”
“Mine too! The grip feels perfect, and the weight is just right.”
We drew the swords to inspect the blades. They gleamed with a mesmerizing luster, far superior to our beginner swords.
“Fars, this is incredible.”
“Yeah, it feels like I could cut through anything with this.”
“Alright, don’t go swinging those around in here! Head out to the backyard. There are test dummies there for you to try them on.”
Carrying our swords with care, we headed to the small backyard. It was equipped with wooden logs, armored mannequins, and magically created clay dummies for practice.
“Shall we?”
“I’ll take on the clay dummy. Fars, you can go for the armored mannequin.”
“Sounds good.”
We each chose our targets and tested the swords.
… We were speechless.
With just the usual amount of strength, the clay dummy I targeted split cleanly in half, while Fars’s mannequin was effortlessly sliced through.
“…This is insane.”
“…Absolutely.”
We marveled at our new swords, repeatedly testing them with the same results.
“Alright, you two. Come back inside. I’ll explain the details,” Marge called out.
“Yes!” we responded in unison.
_
Back in the workshop: “So, how was the sharpness?”
“It felt like slicing through paper. I couldn’t believe it!”
“Yeah, I’ve never experienced anything like it before. I’m amazed.”
“That’s great. Marloa, you’ll mainly be using your sword for hunting magic beasts, so I’ve designed it to endure body-enhancement magic.
Fars, your sword is optimized for combat against other people. It has a guard with a notch here to help deflect your opponent’s blade.
Additionally, both swords can channel magic briefly, allowing you to envelop the blade in magical energy for a short time.
Just make sure you use it wisely. Oh, and remember, these swords are prohibited in student tournaments while you’re still at the academy.”
“Understood!” we replied in unison.
As thrilled as I was with the incredible craftsmanship, one concern lingered in my mind—the price.
“Um, Marge… about the payment for these swords…”
Fars seemed to have the same thought. We both asked nervously, our hearts pounding.
“Payment? Don’t worry about it. I’ve already been paid by Yele. He said having your continued cooperation is worth far more. Yele sure found himself some great talents.”
Yele paid for them?!
To think he’d cover the cost of not one but two swords from Marge, renowned as the best swordsmith in the nation—how generous! From now on, I could never dream of turning my back on Yele.
After listening to Marge’s detailed instructions about the swords, we immediately sent Yele a magical message to express our gratitude.
Message to Yele:
“Yele! Thank you so much for the swords. I never expected the payment to be covered as well…”
Reply from Yele:
“It’s nothing. Really. By the way, I need a favor. I could use some materials from three Blue Logas. Their bodies disintegrate into mist when hit by magic. Even the knight corps ends up with damaged materials when they try. Can you and Fars handle it?”
“Blue Logas? Of course! We’ll collect the materials after picking up our armor. Their nest is about an hour from here, so we’ll send them to you shortly.”
“Thanks! I owe you one!”
“Sounds like you’ve got a job from Yele. Good luck,” Marge said.
“Thank you! But first, we’re picking up the armor we ordered from Dungeon using the Yellow Dragon hide. Let’s go, Fars!”
“Right behind you! Thank you again, Marge!”
“Take care, you two!”
We left Marge’s shop and headed to Dungeon’s workshop.
“Dungeon, sorry for the delay in picking up our armor,” I said.
“Ah, Marloa, Fars. I was wondering when you’d come. Everything’s ready. Want to put it on now?”
“Yes, please. We’re heading straight out to hunt Blue Logas.”
Dungion disappeared into the back room and returned carrying two sets of armor. They were designed as matching pairs, yet each tailored to our specific needs.
My armor prioritized mobility, with dragon hide heavily used in the chest plate for protection without sacrificing movement. Fars’s armor, on the other hand, was designed to absorb impacts during combat, combining thin metal plates with dragon hide for durability and flexibility.
The shoulder guards, gauntlets, and thigh plates were all crafted from dragon hide, making them lightweight yet incredibly sturdy. Additionally, my armor was enchanted with defensive reinforcement magic, while Fars’s armor had mobility-enhancing enchantments.
“This is amazing! It’s so light!”
“Dungeon, this is incredible. It fits me perfectly!”
“The Yellow Dragon hide has excellent elasticity. It molds to your body with use. You both look great.”
“Thank you so much!”
“You’re heading out for a hunt, right? Be careful out there. And if you ever bring back another dragon, let me know—I could use the materials.”
“Of course! If we come across another dragon, we’ll make sure to bring back what we can!”
