The Noble Lady Without Magic Aims to Become an Adventurer! - Chapter 75
Having spent the entirety of the holiday at the estate, both Fars and I were utterly exhausted on the first day back at school—not that we’d ever admit it. After finishing the morning classes, I headed to the royal palace.
Fars, on the other hand, mentioned he would stop by the knights’ club for the first time in a while. I decided to ask him about it later.
“Arnold-senpai, Yele-senpai, it’s been a while.”
I visited Arnold-senpai’s office for the first time in weeks. Yele-senpai was already there, sipping tea and lounging as if he had been waiting for me.
“Welcome back, Marloa. Did you enjoy your holiday?”
Arnold-senpai paused his research, taking a sip of tea prepared by Yere-senpai.
“Yes, I had a wonderful time visiting home.”
“Good to hear. And how’s Fars?”
“He’s doing well. He’s especially excited about becoming a big brother soon.”
“Really? I’ll have to prepare a gift to celebrate.”
I glanced around the room, which wasn’t as cluttered as usual, thanks to my frequent tidying before the break. Picking up a few scattered documents, I placed them neatly on the desk to create some space.
“Arnold-senpai, since Yele-senpai is here too, would it be alright if I set out the souvenirs I brought back?”
“Go ahead.”
“I’ve been looking forward to seeing what you brought, Marloa,” Yele-senpai added, clearly intrigued.
From my bag, I began pulling out items that could only be found in the village—plants carefully stored in jars, rare insects, and even unusual flowers.
Among the items was a small cage containing a pair of tiny creatures, resembling a mix between squirrels and flying squirrels. I had taken great care to keep them fed and hydrated during the journey.
“What’s in the cage?”
Arnold-senpai asked as he inspected one of the jars.
“This is a creature without an official name yet,” I began, opening the cage gently.
The two animals poked their heads out, chirping softly. I explained their unique characteristics: how they often lived in the attics of village homes, sensitive to miasma and magical auras, and particularly adept at detecting monsters. They had formed a symbiotic relationship with humans, warning them of approaching danger.
Additionally, I mentioned how the bonded pair could always find their way back to each other, no matter how far apart they were. This made them invaluable to villagers who used them as guides when venturing into the forest.
“I want one,” Yele-senpai declared almost immediately.
Arnold-senpai, while interested, admitted he didn’t have the time to care for a pet. So, Yele-senpai eagerly took the pair, doting on them instantly by feeding them nuts and offering them tiny water orbs with magic.
“That’s not all—I’ve brought more souvenirs,” I said, pulling out jars containing insects, flowers, and various parts of hunted monsters, including pelts, fangs, and even eyeballs. Finally, I brought out a frozen orc, and the room suddenly felt much smaller.
“When we went hunting in the forest for food, we found an unusually large group of orcs, so we took them down. This one’s been properly bled and frozen, so it’s fresh and ready to cook.”
“Marlowa… I wasn’t expecting this,” Arnold-senpai said, his expression slightly strained.
He seemed surprised by the sight of a whole orc carcass. It reminded me of Otto’s reaction when I’d presented him with slabs of orc meat upon returning home.
“Seriously? Do you not realize how shocking it is for a noble lady to casually pull out a whole orc corpse?!”
“It’s nothing new. Hunting is a regular activity for me. Oh, but I suppose I usually hunt dragons instead of food animals.”
Ignoring their shock, I used wind magic to slice the frozen orc into parts, then activated a magic circle designed for cooking meat.
]
“Wait, are you seriously grilling meat in my research lab? And what is this magic circle? I’ve never seen anything like it.”
“This is a magic circle I invented specifically for grilling meat! The heat adjusts automatically.”
Yele-senpai sighed, pressing a hand to his forehead.
“Alright, the meat is ready!”
I skewered the grilled pieces with sticks and sprinkled them with salt before handing them to the two senpai.
While skeptical at first, they began eating cautiously. Judging by how quickly they asked for seconds, they seemed to enjoy it.
“Well, I’ve handed over the souvenirs, so I’ll take my leave now.”
“Thanks for everything, Marloa. As bizarre as it looks, the orc meat is surprisingly good. I’ll save the rest for later.”
Arnold-senpai began packing the frozen orc pieces into a small time-stasis box.
“These plants are invaluable, too. They’ll be a big help for my research. Say hi to Fars for me.”
“I will. Farewell, senpai.”
On the way back to the estate, I kept my sword at my side and used a concealment spell just in case. Even though the area was safe, it never hurt to be cautious.
