The Noble Lady Without Magic Aims to Become an Adventurer! - Chapter 73
The dance had made us stand out more than expected. I could only offer a wry smile at the unintended attention.
As we returned to Father’s side, a voice called out from behind us.
“Your dance was wonderful, both of you.”
It was Crown Prince Sherman and Lady Eleanor, looking as close as ever.
“We are honored by your kind words,” Fars and I said, bowing.
“Marloa, as a classmate, may I have the honor of a dance?”
“With pleasure.”
“Lady Eleanor, I may not be as skilled as His Highness, but would you grant me the honor of a dance?”
“With pleasure.”
And so, I began dancing with Crown Prince Sherman, while Fars danced with Lady Eleanor.
“You and Fars are exceptional dancers,” the Prince remarked.
“We’ve been together since childhood, after all. But now we’ve drawn so much attention with our dancing that I fear I won’t be able to focus on guarding you properly,” I replied with a small laugh.
“Haha, Marloa, even as you say that, I’m sure you’re keeping an eye on the entire hall. And congratulations on your debutante. You look stunning. Were I not engaged to Eleanor, I might have sought you as my fiancée.”
“Fufu, thank you for the compliment, Your Highness. It’s so flattering that I think I’ll be able to eat an entire loaf of bread tonight.”
“Pfft, trying not to laugh is difficult. Well, don’t worry too much about guarding tonight.
There are plenty of others mixed among the guests handling security. Take your time and enjoy yourself.”
“Thank you for your consideration.”
After exchanging bows, we moved to the edge of the hall. Fars and Lady Eleanor soon joined us, and we engaged in lighthearted conversation.
Before long, our classmates joined in, making the atmosphere even more cheerful. I danced with a few of them throughout the evening.
The young ladies who had been vying for Fars’s attention were clearly frustrated, as our classmates successfully intercepted their advances.
Eventually, it was time for the Crown Prince and Lady Eleanor to take their leave, signaling the end of our guard duty.
I was relieved that the evening had gone by without incident.
Father, busy with greetings from various individuals, finally rejoined us. Once his formalities were complete, we all returned home together.
I was glad to have fulfilled both my guard duties and my debutante successfully. While Father had hoped I could simply enjoy the event without responsibilities, being able to share the experience with Fars made it more than enough for me.
Following the ball, Father became increasingly busy. I noticed we had fewer opportunities to dine together, and though I was concerned, he always reassured me that he was fine.
When I discreetly asked Otto about it, he revealed that Father had been receiving suggestions from various quarters to consider taking a second wife.
On top of that, Fars had begun receiving marriage proposals as well.
…Meanwhile, my own marriage prospects were mysteriously nonexistent.
Unacceptable.
Fars and I decided to use the long holiday to visit the village.
Father arranged everything for the trip, ensuring we’d travel comfortably. We also bought a few gifts for Tera, knowing he would appreciate them.
Though the carriage journey left us with the usual sore backsides, we made it enjoyable by experimenting with wind magic—floating slightly above our seats or even subtly levitating the entire carriage. The journey became a playful and entertaining adventure.
