The Noble Lady Without Magic Aims to Become an Adventurer! - Chapter 71
“By the way, Yele-senpai, thank you for introducing us to Margue. She said our swords will be ready in three months. She even sharpened the ones we had. Her skills are incredible!”
“Right? Margue is the best swordsmith in the kingdom.”
After some lighthearted conversation, it got late, and Yele-senpai used teleportation magic to send us back home.
“Welcome back, my lady. The master has been eagerly awaiting your return,” Otto said as he greeted me.
“I’m home, Otto. I’ll head straight to the study.”
I made my way to the study, with Fars seamlessly shifting into his squire mode.
“Father, I’ve returned.”
“Welcome back, Marloa. Were there any injuries?”
“No, Father. Most of our tasks involved gathering plants, so I wasn’t at risk.”
“I see. That’s a relief. I called you here to give you this.”
My father handed me what appeared to be a summons masquerading as an invitation.
“This is… unavoidable, isn’t it?”
“Indeed. This season’s royal ball is being held, and they’ve requested you as a guard. It’s also time for your debutante ball.”
“…I understand. I’ll need to submit an audience request.”
“Yes, and I anticipated this. Your dress has already been arranged.”
“Thank you, Father.”
“Don’t overexert yourself.”
“Of course not.”
After our conversation, I returned to my room, where Anna was eagerly awaiting me.
“Welcome back, my lady. Let’s get you into the bath right away. Fars, Otto is calling for you. Head there immediately.”
Fars bowed and left the room. Meanwhile, Anna and her team of maids whisked me into the bath, scrubbing and polishing me with vigor.
“My lady, I heard about the debutante ball from the master. Starting today, we’ll begin preparations. With regular massages and treatments, we’ll make you so stunning that even the most beautiful women will pale in comparison!”
…The maids were clearly fired up.
Anna, in particular, was already in full battle mode—three weeks ahead of the event.
While they were brimming with determination, I found myself drifting off during a massage on the bed. By the time I opened my eyes, it was morning.
I decided to dedicate the day to training. After waking up a bit later than usual, I went for a morning run with Fars and began our usual training session after breakfast.
The afternoon was more relaxed. I spent the time reading books while Fars brewed tea for me. It was during this quiet moment that news arrived: my audience request had been approved. We were to visit the castle the following day.
The next morning, as I prepared to head to the castle in my uniform, Anna stopped me with a terrifying expression. She and her team of maids quickly dressed me in a gown instead.
Fars, on the other hand, wore his squire uniform.
Upon arriving at the castle, we were directed not to the audience hall but to the Crown Prince’s study.
“Marloa Efsee, I have come as summoned,” I announced, bowing alongside Fars.
“Welcome, Lady Marloa. I’m sure you already know why you were summoned. As with last year, we request your services as a guard during the ball.
It’s also the perfect occasion for your debutante ball, as you’ve yet to make your formal debut.”
“The royal ball is scheduled to take place twice this season. Should I attend only the upper nobility’s event, as last year?”
“No, this time, we’d like you to attend the general nobility’s ball. While the upper nobility has stabilized, the general aristocracy still struggles with maintaining order.
You should bring Fars as your partner. Fars, congratulations on winning the tournament. If your future achievements continue, a count’s title may be in your future.”
“I am deeply honored, Your Highness. I will strive to live up to your expectations.”
“Understood,” I added.
“Go over the details with the chancellor,” the Crown Prince instructed.
We bowed and left the study, following a guide to the chancellor’s office.
As we reviewed the plans with the chancellor, it became clear that this year’s arrangements differed from the previous one. While Fars had served as a waiter last year, this time, he would participate as an invited guest.
The instructions for my role, however, remained largely unchanged: stay close to the Crown Prince.
After completing the meeting, we left the palace and returned home.
“Welcome back, my lady. You’ve returned rather early. Is something the matter?” Otto asked as we entered.
“Otto, please arrange a formal outfit for Fars. He will be attending the ball as my partner.”
“Understood. Shall we coordinate his attire with yours?”
“Yes, but I’m not sure how to match them. Please consult Anna about it. Will it be ready in time?”
“For gentlemen’s attire, it can be prepared by tomorrow. Coordinating the colors will take more time, but as a squire, Fars could match his tie or decorative pieces to your outfit. I’ll discuss this with Anna.”
“Thank you. We’ll be in the library studying.”
After speaking with Otto, I changed into simpler clothes and headed to the library. Fars, now back in his squire uniform, was waiting for me outside.
“Fars, shall we review together?”
“…Yes. My ranking fell last time, so I need to study.”
“It’s understandable. You sacrificed study time to compete in the tournament. Winning the tournament should more than make up for it when it comes to your end-of-year results.”
“I hope so. But there’s no excuse for neglecting my studies.”
Fars sat across from me, and we opened our textbooks. Together, we studied, helping each other as we worked through the material.
