The Noble Lady Without Magic Aims to Become an Adventurer! - Chapter 108
In the Salon Was…
“Fars! What brings you here?”
“How do you like it? I had this prepared because I thought it would suit you, Marloa.”
Standing before me was Fars, not in his usual knight uniform, but sharply dressed in a tailored suit. He looked so different that I found myself momentarily frozen. Then, he began to speak.
“Marloa, at the upcoming ball, I’ll be made a
count. Isn’t that amazing?”
“That’s incredible, Fars! I thought you’d earn a title from the combat tournament.”
Fars scratched his head, looking slightly bashful.
“That promise was if I became the commander of the knights, but it doesn’t seem like that’s going to happen.
Instead, I’ve been appointed as an aide to Crown Prince Alois.
Since I’m a commoner, not having a title was a problem. However, the title of Count, which my mother was supposed to inherit but had gone unused, has been reinstated. And it’s all thanks to the support of Marquess Efsée.”
“…My father? Really?”
“Yes, really. Now, I can proudly escort you, Marloa. Would you grant me the honor of being your official escort from now on?”
“…I’m so happy. I’d be honored, Count. By the way, what will your family name be?”
“My mother’s family name was Wallance. From now on, I’ll be Count Wallance—though for now, it’s just a name!”
“That’s wonderful. Congratulations.”
I never imagined Fars would become a count. As it turned out, the reason the estate had been so busy recently was tied to Fars’s title.
Although he currently lived in the royal dormitories for single knights, a count obviously couldn’t remain there. Preparations for a townhouse were already underway.
While serving me tea, Fars chatted about the arrangements. Fufu, some habits from his days as my attendant still lingered.
After talking about my travels and his experiences with the knights, Fars left to return to his dormitory, promising to escort me to the ball.
Anna and Otto were grinning the whole time—surely, I was imagining it.
On the day of the ball, Fars arrived at the estate in a pristine white knight’s uniform. As for me, nearly every maid in the household had been involved in preparing me for the event. By the time I was ready, I was utterly exhausted.
“My lady, you’re the most beautiful woman in the kingdom now!”
Anna’s enthusiasm was infectious. Looking in the mirror, I couldn’t believe my own reflection. Who is this stunning woman? I owed everything to the maids who worked so hard to make it happen.
“Fars, sorry to keep you waiting.”
“…Marloa, you look stunning.”
Fars looked unusually flustered.
“You look wonderful too, Fars. And thank you for the dress.”
“Ah, sorry I can’t come up with something clever to say. You’re just… breathtaking.”
“Fufu, thank you. Shall we head to the venue?”
“Yes, let’s go.”
My father and Terra were waiting in the grand hall. Fars bowed deeply to them.
“I will ensure Lady Marloa is escorted properly,” he said.
Watching him act so formally filled me with pride—and a little embarrassment.
We arrived at the venue in the marquess’s carriage.
This ball was attended by nearly all the nobility. With such a large gathering, security was especially tight. Fars escorted me into the venue.
My father and Terra planned to enter later.
Fars mentioned there would be a ceremony before the ball officially began.
I assumed this was when Fars’s appointment as an aide would be announced.
“Marloa, I’m about to be called. Please wait here for me.”
“Alright, I’ll wait.”
I stood quietly near the stage, feeling my heart race as though it were my moment. From the corner of my eye, I saw Lady Eleanor peeking out from backstage. When our eyes met, she smiled and waved, easing my nerves.
“The King is now entering.”
The King, accompanied by the Queen, took center stage.
The King announced that over the next few years, administrative duties would gradually be transferred to Crown Prince Alois, culminating in his ascension to the throne.
Following this, Crown Prince Alois, the Crown Princess, the Second Prince and his Princess, and the Third Prince Sherman and Lady Eleanor were called to the stage for their introductions.
Afterward, the newly appointed aides were introduced and lined up behind their respective royals.
Fufu, I spotted Fars among them.
Later, Anna told me that Fars had been chosen as an aide due to his exceptional skills as a knight, outstanding academic performance, and years of meticulous work as my attendant. Being an aide required both intellectual and martial prowess.
One by one, the aides’ names were called.
When Fars’s name was announced, his title as Count was also formally reinstated. The hall erupted in applause.
As Fars descended from the stage, he gave me a small wave.
Fufu, his fans will be upset with me.
Smiling at the thought, I waved back.
The Crown Prince and the other royals descended to the dance floor and exchanged bows before the music began, marking the start of the ball.
“Marloa, I’m back. Wasn’t I cool?”
“Yes, you were very impressive. I wish Violeta could have seen it.”
“Oh, I forgot to mention—my mother is in the corner of the dance hall.”
“Let’s go greet her later.”
“Of course. For now, may I have this dance?”
Fars extended his hand with a bow.
“With pleasure.”
We walked to the center of the hall and began to dance.
“As a count, you’ll be dancing with many ladies tonight, won’t you? It’s a little lonely to think about.”
“I’d rather not. I’ll stick to the minimum. The only person I want to dance with is you.”
“I might step on your toes again, you know?”
“Haha, I’ve memorized your dance quirks, so don’t worry. After this dance, may we step out to the balcony?”
“? Sure, but we’d better hurry, or you might get surrounded by ladies.”
“True. Let’s move quickly.”
After the dance, we headed straight to the balcony.
“Fars, what’s on the balcony?”
As I spoke, faint glowing flowers began to appear along the railing, the floor, and even floating in the air.
“This is beautiful! I’ve never seen anything like it.”
“I’m glad you like it. I had my seniors help prepare this.”
“Really? It’s breathtaking. I’m so touched.”
Fars knelt on one knee and extended his hand toward me.
“Marloa, I’ve been with you for so long—since forever, really. I’ve seen your tomboyish side, your resilience, your kindness, and even your clumsy embroidery skills.
Through it all, I’ve realized I want to be by your side for the rest of my life. Now that I have my title, I can finally propose properly. Marloa, will you take my hand?”
“…Fars, are you sure about me? What if I want to travel again? Or if I get jealous? I’m not exactly a perfect noblewoman.”
“I’m sure. I want you, Marloa. We can even travel together—I’ll make sure to get time off from the prince.”
“…You’ve made me so happy. Please make me happy for the rest of my life.”
I gently took his hand. He pulled me into his arms, holding me close.
“Of course, I will.”
Fars, now taller than me, kissed my forehead. The glowing flowers floating in the air drifted down like snow, surrounding us in a soft, magical light.
“Fars, Marloa! Congratulations—it’s about time!”
Descending from above was Senior Yele.
“Thank you, Senior Yele, for these beautiful glowing flowers.”
“I’m glad you liked them, Marloa. I’d love to chat more, but there are still people waiting for you, aren’t there? Go ahead.”
With Fars escorting me, we went to greet Father, Terra, and Violeta. It seemed they had known about this all along. Father smiled warmly, Terra waved enthusiastically, and Violeta wiped away her tears.
It became a ball I would never forget for the rest of my life.
