The Noble Lady Without Magic Aims to Become an Adventurer! - Chapter 107
The Day of the Tea Party.
As I stepped out of the marquess’s carriage, I saw the other ladies and noblewomen being escorted by knights to the garden where the tea party was to be held. It looked like it would be a dazzling event with so many women in attendance.
“Lady Marloa, I am here to escort you.”
The knight who appeared before me was Fars.
Seeing his face after such a long time was unexpectedly reassuring. Fars had become more chiseled and mature-looking in the time we hadn’t met.
“It’s been a while, Fars. Have you been well?”
“I was assigned the honor of escorting you today, my lady. It’s a pleasure. You know, I worked really hard to earn this role. Escorting Lady Marloa was quite the contested assignment.”
Fars spoke in a playful tone, teasing like always.
“Really? I’d have thought they’d be trying to pass the role off onto someone else.”
“Shall we?”
I placed my hand in his outstretched one, and we began walking slowly.
“Not at all. You’re currently the center of attention: beautiful, unconventional for a noblewoman, a marquess’s daughter, and connected to the princess.”
“It seems appearances are everything. I might be the only lady my age without a fiancé. At this rate, I’ll be labeled a spinster soon.”
“That’s fine. I’m the only one who needs to know your true self, right? Just wait for me to come and get you.”
“Fufu, I’ll be waiting.”
I brushed off his words lightly, and we arrived at the garden.
I felt like all the ladies’ gazes were instantly drawn to Fars and me. Maybe it was because Fars and I worked well together—he used to be my attendant, after all.
We’d been together since we were born, practically.
After greeting Lady Eleanor, I took my seat, which, unfortunately, was right next to her.
I would have preferred to sit in the furthest, quietest spot, but that wasn’t an option today.
“Then, my lady, I’ll return to escort you later,” Fars said with a bow before leaving with the other knights.
Now, the real battle among the ladies begins.
Lady Eleanor, as the fiancée of the third prince, has significantly fewer official duties compared to the queen or the crown princess. However, she’s making efforts like this tea party to unite the factions behind the scenes. Impressive, as always.
After Lady Eleanor’s opening remarks, the tea party officially began.
There were only about ten participants. There are few ducal families to begin with, and not that many marquess families either. Limiting it to those close in age to Lady Eleanor or her circle narrowed the group even further.
On a side note, the knights who escorted us were all strikingly handsome.
Of course, they were also skilled. But being escorted by such good-looking knights felt a bit embarrassing, though it seemed perfectly normal to the other ladies.
Lady Eleanor’s thoughtful hospitality was evident throughout the tea party. One of the attendants poured tea for me.
Here was my moment to showcase all my training.
As I took a sip of tea, one of the noblewomen across from me spoke up.
“Lady Marloa of House Efsée, how have you been spending your time since graduating from the academy?”
She went straight to the point, asking the question everyone was undoubtedly curious about. Suddenly, all eyes were on me.
“I don’t spend much time in the capital. I’ve been traveling around the country, enjoying visits to various villages.”
“Oh my, really? Didn’t the marquess object? I also heard that you lack magical power. Does that mean the marquess pays you no mind?”
What a sharp question.
“Fufu, thank you for your concern. Thanks to my lack of magical power, I’m free from the constraints of marriage and can live freely. My father and brother worry about me and stay in touch regularly.”
“That sounds quite enviable.”
I dodged her verbal jabs with a polite smile.
“Lady Marloa is an exceptional noblewoman. She was outstanding in the knightly courses, winning the academy’s combat tournament and consistently ranking in the top ten academically.
Even without magical power, her skills are such that both His Majesty and Crown Prince Iron recommended her as an aide. And she always looks out for me and Sherman, even attending tea parties like this to support us. Her presence is very reassuring.”
Lady Eleanor interjected to back me up.
The atmosphere shifted after that, and the tea party proceeded more amicably. The conversation among the ladies turned to art, embroidery, fashionable dresses, and a variety of other topics.
It was fascinating to see how noblewomen exchanged information this way.
I listened attentively, mostly taking the role of an observer. Lady Eleanor was truly impressive, skillfully steering the conversation while gathering information and mediating between opposing factions.
Without any disruptions, the tea party concluded peacefully. As we prepared to leave, the handsome knights escorted the ladies away.
“My lady, I’m here to escort you,” Fars said with a bow.
A nearby noblewoman turned to him.
“I’d prefer Fars to escort me. Why don’t you become my personal guard? I’ll take good care of you,” she declared boldly.
What an outrageous statement!
But Fars, as composed as ever, replied with a polite smile, “I’m sorry, but my escort duties have already been assigned. As for becoming a personal guard, I have no intention of leaving the knighthood.”
Surprisingly, the noblewoman didn’t seem upset.
“Oh, Fars, you’re as cold as ever. But that’s part of your charm. Come to me anytime. See you later!”
She waved and walked away. I was left dumbfounded by the interaction.
“Shall we go, my lady?”
“Fars, are you sure that’s okay?”
“What do you mean? Let’s go, my lady.”
After saying my farewells to Lady Eleanor, I began walking with Fars escorting me.
“Fars, you’re quite popular, aren’t you? That was surprising.”
“Is that so? I’m not interested in any of it. I’ll be your escort again next time.”
“Your tone is back to normal. Fufu, I’ll count on you, then.”
Fars accompanied me all the way back to the estate. After a brief conversation with Otto, he returned to the castle.
“Anna, I’m exhausted.”
“Welcome back, my lady. I’ll prepare your bath right away.”
Anna seemed unusually cheerful as she got everything ready.
What’s going on?
Somehow, the entire household seemed in high spirits.
Could they be that happy about my return?
I pondered this as I relaxed in the bath and spent a quiet evening in my room.
Perhaps it’s just because I haven’t been home in a while, but the estate feels unusually lively.
“Anna, doesn’t the estate seem a bit busier than usual?”
“Isn’t it just your imagination? Though I must say, everyone is quite motivated because of your tea party and the upcoming ball. Everyone wants to see you dressed beautifully, my lady.”
“Really?”
“Absolutely!”
With such conversations, the week flew by as I trained diligently at the Zero Division. On my days off, Anna and I went dress shopping, keeping me incredibly busy.
Finally, the day arrived when my dress was to be delivered.
Who could it be from? Even when I asked Father or Terra, they’d only smile and wouldn’t tell me.
“My lady, your dress has arrived. Please come to the salon.”
Anna, brimming with excitement, guided me to the salon.
And waiting there was…
