The Movie Queen is Flirtatious and Doting - Chapter 3
Chapter 3
Gu Yinglian was forced to add Ye Yansheng’s phone number and WeChat; she really had no other choice. Ye Yansheng was right—they did need to communicate more regarding the script. They had many scenes together coming up, and Gu Yinglian felt that if she didn’t keep up with Ye Yansheng’s rhythm, she would be subjected to more of that heartless mockery.
Gu Yinglian had just arrived home when there was a knock at the door. The sudden sound startled her. Could it be her manager? But her manager always called beforehand, and this time, there hadn’t been a word.
She looked through the peephole. It wasn’t her manager; it looked like a delivery courier. Confused, she asked, “Who is it?”
The voice outside replied, “Is this Ms. Gu Yinglian? You have a delivery here. Please sign for it.”
A delivery? Gu Yinglian found it very strange. She said through the door, “Is there a mistake? I didn’t order anything.”
Just then, her phone rang. It was Ye Yansheng. Gu Yinglian had no choice but to answer. “Hello, Sister Ye.”
“Mhm, Xiao Lian-ah. I had a courier send some things to your house. Go ahead and sign for them.”
“You ordered this?” Gu Yinglian almost screamed. Remembering the other woman’s status, she suppressed her agitation. “What is it? Why are you suddenly sending me things?”
“Ms. Gu Yinglian?” The courier knocked again. “Please sign for your delivery.”
Gu Yinglian was forced to open the door and sign for the package.
“I thought it suited you,” Ye Yansheng said over the phone.
Suits me? What on earth? Gu Yinglian was completely baffled. She lugged the package inside, sat on the sofa, set her phone aside, and opened it. Inside was that white lace dress from the film set. Gu Yinglian froze. Why send her this? This dress must cost over ten thousand yuan. Did she buy the prop? Gu Yinglian simply couldn’t wrap her head around it.
“Hey, why did you send me this?” Gu Yinglian picked up the phone and spoke to the other end.
“I thought it looked good on you,” Ye Yansheng replied.
“What exactly are you trying to do?” Gu Yinglian was reaching the end of her tether.
“I feel like I’ve fallen in love with you at first sight. I’d feel bad if I didn’t give you something.”
“You!” Gu Yinglian nearly exploded with rage. What did this woman take her for? Did she think she was some “easy” woman? “I don’t need it!” Gu Yinglian said resolutely. “Stop being so sentimental. I’m returning this to you, and that’s that!” Without waiting for a response, she hung up.
Hah, quite a temper. Ye Yansheng looked at the disconnected call, a smirk playing on her lips. She liked the ones who weren’t easy to catch; the chase was only fun that way.
…
Gu Yinglian stared at the dress, fuming. The nerve! To actually try her moves on her—did she look like that kind of person? Did she?
After being angry for a while, she looked at the dress again and couldn’t help but take it out. Since I’m returning it anyway, it shouldn’t matter if I try it on, right? She really did love this dress.
She figured since no one would ever know, she would just try it once.
Gu Yinglian put on the dress and looked in the mirror. It was stunning—almost like wearing a wedding gown. The fabric was soft yet luxurious, and the fit around the bust and waist was perfect. Gu Yinglian already had fair skin, and the dress made her look even more radiant. Her slightly curly black hair was tied loosely back, giving her a look of “messy beauty.”
During filming, she hadn’t had time to admire the effect before being rushed to change. Now, she truly couldn’t bear to part with it. Every girl has a “princess dream” deep down, and this white lace dress had awakened Gu Yinglian’s.
Just then, Ye Yansheng called again. Gu Yinglian saw the ID and wanted to ignore it, but fearing she’d be made miserable on set, she answered. “Hello? What now?”
“Are you trying on the dress?” Ye Yansheng asked.
The question hit Gu Yinglian like a thunderclap. She almost blurted out, “How did you know?” She glanced at the window—the curtains were tightly drawn. She scanned her apartment, wondering if a camera had been planted somewhere.
“Did I guess right?” Ye Yansheng laughed.
“Wh-what did you guess right? Who’s trying on the dress!” Gu Yinglian lied through her teeth. “I already said I’m returning it. I have no interest in trying it on.”
Ye Yansheng: “Then try it on and take a photo for me…”
Gu Yinglian: “In your dreams.”
Ye Yansheng: “If there’s no photo, you aren’t allowed to return it.”
Gu Yinglian: “What kind of logic is that? Do I owe you something?”
Ye Yansheng: “Gu Yinglian, I think your acting is still a bit lacking. Do you need me to find some time to mentor you? The kind of mentoring that happens at your house? Perhaps we need a ‘deeper’ exchange…”
Gu Yinglian: “You!” Bastard, lecher, shameless, despicable! Scoundrel!
Gu Yinglian thought: I’m quitting this drama! She quickly calculated the contract penalty fee she’d have to pay if she quit, and then… she lost her nerve. “Even if… even if I keep it, I won’t wear it!”
“That would be a pity. You look beautiful in it,” Ye Yansheng laughed, her seductive voice ringing softly in Gu’s ear. “Beautiful as an angel. I’m practically enchanted.”
Gu Yinglian got a whole body’s worth of goosebumps.
Gu Yinglian: “Boring. Is that all? If so, I’m hanging up!”
Ye Yansheng: “Let’s talk for a bit more, why are you hanging up so fa—”
The call was heartlessly disconnected once again. Ye Yansheng looked at her phone and laughed helplessly. This time, she really was “pressing her warm face against a cold butt” (doing something nice for someone who doesn’t care). She’d done it twice now, and she was still enjoying it.
No matter, there was no rush. They were still filming; there would be plenty of chances to interact.
Ye Yansheng picked up her phone and sent a WeChat to Gu Yinglian: Arrive one hour early tomorrow. We need to go over lines.
She sent it, thought for a moment, and sent another: Do you like the dress? Should I send you another one?
Gu Yinglian: NO! NEED!
Ye Yansheng: That’s fine. I was just confirming you received the first message.
Looking at the messages, Gu Yinglian was furious. But what could she do? Her status was too low, her power too small, and her bank account too shallow. She was being played like a fiddle. She felt her IQ was being ruthlessly trampled upon.
She didn’t dare ignore what Ye Yansheng said. She had heard that industry veterans often bullied newcomers in bizarre ways if they didn’t like them. Although Ye Yansheng hadn’t “officially” bullied her yet, Gu Yinglian felt she was exactly the type of person who would. It was better to be obedient.
Gu Yinglian changed out of the dress, took a shower, and came out to memorize tomorrow’s scenes. She only ever had a few lines, but she had to appear in almost every scene. Who came up with such a fragmented role? At least give her a little more screen time!
She sighed and memorized her lines until they were second nature. Her lines weren’t many and were often repetitive—the most frequent word being “CEO.” Well, that’s what happens when you’re the CEO’s secretary.
