The Movie Queen And Her Rival Just Went Public! - Chapter 20
Chapter 20
Su Cancan didn’t have the habit of eavesdropping. She picked up her phone, frowned, and carefully navigated the darkness to the backyard.
Shen Luoyan hadn’t lied to her. There was indeed a small stream behind their cottage. The stars and the bright moon reflected in it, swaying rhythmically with the flowing water. The air was filled with an indescribable freshness and the sound of the babbling stream.
She hadn’t scoped out the location beforehand and hadn’t brought a chair. The moisture from the stream had invaded the grass, so she obediently squatted in a small huddle, enjoying the darkness and humming a tune.
Her phone lit up when Liu Yimin’s message arrived. She continued humming as she unlocked it to check.
Liu Yimin: What is it, Your Highness?
Su Cancan stopped humming and gave a bitter smile. There was no “Your Highness” here, just a miserable worker toiling away in the wilderness.
Su Cancan: Don’t be passive-aggressive, or I won’t talk to you!
Su Cancan: Actually, it’s nothing big. I just feel like filming a dating show is tiring. Shen Luoyan and I are clearly incompatible, yet we have to pretend to be close and act like sisters. I could grit my teeth and fake it with anyone else, but with her, it just feels strange. That hurdle in my heart just won’t go away. The stranger thing is, she’s actually serious about opening up to me. Ugh, it’s surreal.
The moment Su Cancan entered the “Love Cottage,” Liu Yimin was summoned back to the company by Qian Weiyi for a meeting. When she received Su Cancan’s WeChat message, Qian Weiyi was still sitting in his executive chair, dictating his strategy.
“Contact Shen Luoyan’s team later to discuss the best plan for a CP hype. We need to grab the heat as soon as there’s a little progress, or else if we miss this opportunity, Su Cancan will genuinely have to pray for a miracle to become popular again.”
Liu Yimin’s good mood from chatting with Su Cancan instantly soured. After Su Cancan’s complaining message appeared in the chat box, she glanced at Qian Weiyi, who was engulfed in smoke, and couldn’t help but roll her eyes.
“Are you listening to me? What on your phone is more important than a meeting with your boss?” Qian Weiyi tapped the cigar, held between two fingers, against the edge of a gold-plated ashtray. The ashes scattered, and the crimson glow flickered.
Liu Yimin ignored him and first calmed Su Cancan’s emotions.
Liu Yimin: I’m really not being passive-aggressive. Qian Weiyi dragged me back to Shanghai for a meeting, you know how it is. You need to try harder with the filming with Shen Luoyan. Dating show audiences love artificial sweetness, so just manufacture it, but don’t be too deliberate. You don’t want her fans to accuse you of clinging to her.
Qian Weiyi looked displeased. He couldn’t tolerate being ignored, but he couldn’t lash out either, as she was the one who independently secured many projects when the company was first founded.
Liu Yimin had minored in psychology, and she could see through Qian Weiyi’s petty thoughts.
If you asked her, Qian Weiyi was no different from a nouveau riche. The sudden acquisition of power and status had completely warped his mentality, making him pathologically afraid of others discovering the hollowness and extreme greed that his luxurious facade couldn’t cover.
“It’s nothing. I was just telling Cancan, as you instructed, to perform well on the show.”
She wasn’t stupid. The team’s contract was in Qian Weiyi’s hands, and she wasn’t going to provoke him at this critical juncture.
“Oh, oh.” Qian Weiyi lowered his buttock, which he had just lifted.
Liu Yimin’s tone became strictly business: “You just mentioned CP hype. We had a meeting with Shen Luoyan’s team before filming. Their intention is to follow the show’s script. I transferred the script to you on the day of the signing. You should generally know what level of intimacy is expected.”
Looking at Qian Weiyi’s cloudy, spiritless eyes, Liu Yimin realized that this guy probably only looked at the contract amount and knew nothing about the terms or the script.
Qian Weiyi cleared his throat to cover his embarrassment: “I think it’s not intimate enough. Can we spend some money to find a scriptwriter and ask them to revise it? It would be best to have a highly explicit scene.”
Only a beast could utter such shameless words. And he was Su Cancan’s boss. The most important thing to a girl was just a tool for making money in his eyes. Did he want Su Cancan to be thoroughly blackened and go down the path of being infamous for the sake of popularity?
Liu Yimin’s voice turned cold: “The script was sent a long time ago. Forcibly changing it would likely make Shen Luoyan disagree. If she gets unhappy and decides to stop filming, it will be even harder to generate hype later.”
Qian Weiyi’s mind had rusted from the temptation of fame and fortune. He believed whatever Liu Yimin said, and pretended to be deep in thought, puffing twice on his cigar and exhaling intoxicating smoke.
“Mr. Qian, it’s getting late. If there’s nothing else, I’ll head back first.”
Liu Yimin was afraid she would throw up if she stayed any longer. He was psychologically abusing her and forcing her to inhale second-hand smoke. She wasn’t a masochist and wouldn’t cater to him. She finished speaking and pushed the glass door open to leave.
After making money, their company relocated to the financial center, occupying an entire floor. The lights were blazing at this hour. Looking at her colleagues engrossed in their work, she shook her head and headed straight for the elevator.
Su Cancan’s concern had already arrived. After pressing the elevator button, Liu Yimin leaned against the wall to check her phone.
Su Cancan: Ugh, just treat whatever he says as nonsense. We’ll endure this year and then leave. Let’s see how long this company can last without us.
Su Cancan: But seriously, he needs to see a doctor. He farted one after another during the meeting. Tsk, so disgusting!
The gloominess in Liu Yimin’s heart instantly cleared after Su Cancan’s two messages. As Liu Yimin was about to reply, Su Cancan also heard a voice calling her name from not far away.
“Cancan, are you there?”
A beam of light subsequently shone on her.
