The Movie Queen And Her Rival Just Went Public! - Chapter 18
Chapter 18
Shen Luoyan didn’t insist, and after giving the tissue to Su Cancan, she walked to the kitchen.
It was late, and the outdoor light was gradually dimming. The flawless glass reflected her vague face, like a scattered puzzle piece, making her difficult to read.
Her hand was resting on the window frame, and the creaking sound of slippers dragging across the floor came from behind her. With a “pa,” the entire room was filled with soft yellow light.
The face on the glass suddenly became clear.
Their eyes met, and the inky pupils were full of frustration.
“What did you do?”
Su Cancan’s soft voice accompanied her approaching footsteps. Shen Luoyan quickly blinked to hide her emotions, pushed the hand resting on the window frame, letting a gust of evening breeze in, then calmly turned around, took out the freshly washed and dried glass, poured a cup of warm water, and slid it across the counter.
“You should drink some water first.” Shen Luoyan lowered her eyes, avoiding Su Cancan’s questioning gaze.
This small action was instantly noticed by the highly observant Su Cancan. She picked up the glass, took a sip, and asked sweetly.
“I’ve had it, can you tell me now?”
With a circle of cameras set up around them and the staff behind the monitor watching, Su Cancan didn’t hold back. She put down the glass and leaned close to Shen Luoyan, bringing their faces near, forcing Shen Luoyan to confront her.
The staff were indeed paying attention to their every move. Before Shen Luoyan officially announced the show, she had received overwhelmingly positive reviews online, but now the public perception of the two was terrible. First, there were rumors of discord, and now, miscommunication. They were afraid the two would clash.
Seeing the two beautiful women acting intimately, the restless CP spirit burned brightly, and they eagerly anticipated their next move, hoping they could slap the face of the naysayers.
Su Cancan turned off her mic and whispered in Shen Luoyan’s ear: “I heard the staff say that you’re responsible for my diet during the show’s recording?”
“Whether it’s your persona or someone else’s suggestion, I hope you don’t mess with it.”
Without giving Shen Luoyan time to answer, her words were thrown out directly.
It was a pity; they couldn’t slap the netizens’ faces, but it did add new evidence to their rumored discord.
Shen Luoyan stood still like a stone statue, watching her come and go. The words of explanation simply wouldn’t come out. Her boasted pride was vulnerable in front of Su Cancan, shattered into pieces on the ground.
She placed the clay pot on the heat-resistant mat on the dining table, then brought over the stir-fried side dishes one by one. After setting the bowls and chopsticks, she sat across from Su Cancan.
The sky outside had turned completely dark. She quickly tapped on her phone, and when she put it down, Su Cancan’s phone screen lit up with a WeChat message.
Shen Luoyan: I would never hurt you.
This sentence made Su Cancan feel both annoyed and amused. What kind of relationship did they have that required such a guarantee? Not to mention “never,” could the past harm be completely erased just because of this collaboration?
“I hope so.”
Not wanting to bring up old grievances with Shen Luoyan on the first day of filming, she had already turned her mic back on, so she only mouthed the words.
Shen Luoyan nodded knowingly. A bridge of trust couldn’t be built in a moment. They had just started, and she had many opportunities to show herself, no need to rush.
“Let’s eat first,” she took the initiative to back down, lifting the lid of the pot, letting the steam carry the fresh, savory aroma to them.
The smell of food piqued Su Cancan’s appetite. Her attention returned to the dining table, and she was surprised. Two dishes and one bowl of porridge; their color, smell, and taste were on par with an outside restaurant.
The oyster sauce vegetables were neatly arranged, their leaves plump and bright green with a sheen of oil, cooked to perfection.
The seaweed threads were uniform, soaked in chili oil with a layer of cooked sesame seeds sprinkled on top.
Shen Luoyan served a bowl of porridge for each of them. She stopped overly focusing on Su Cancan’s reaction and began to eat slowly.
Su Cancan raised an eyebrow, picked up the porcelain spoon, scooped up a spoonful, and put it into her mouth.
Seafood porridge is troublesome to make. Fresh shrimp needs to be deveined and its head sautéed for shrimp oil. Seasoning is tricky; too much cooking wine or pepper makes the taste aggressive, while too little makes it fishy. She loved to eat it but had never made it herself. With this single bite, she could roughly gauge Shen Luoyan’s cooking level.
Quite impressive. If she didn’t become an actress, she definitely wouldn’t starve opening a small restaurant.
Slowly simmered, the rice grains had blossomed open, fully absorbing the savory flavor, making the porridge thick and sticky. The seasoning was just right, not too salty or bland, and the spiciness of the pepper was less intense than expected. After two sips, her body immediately felt warm. Tasting the large shrimp, it was peeled and deveined, easy to eat. When squeezed between her teeth, the full, refreshing springiness of fresh shrimp was revealed.
Before long, both their bowls were empty, and there were two empty plates on the table.
With a full belly, Su Cancan reluctantly started a conversation, setting aside the unpleasantness.
“I didn’t expect you to know how to cook.” Seeing that the other person had finished, she pulled out two napkins, one for herself and one for Shen Luoyan. “It’s quite delicious.”
“Mhm, I was responsible for the family’s meals when I was in school.” Shen Luoyan took the napkin and wiped her mouth. After wiping, she carefully folded the dirty side inward, folding the napkin into a square.
“Huh?” Su Cancan was surprised. “During your student years? Our high school wasn’t very strict with regular students, did you have time to cook every day?”
Shen Luoyan suddenly looked up, her eyes wider than usual: “You remember we went to the same high school?”
