In the fifth year of the apocalypse, Xiang Changge died in a natural disaster. Upon waking up again, she found herself transmigrated into a retro novel she had recently read. In her mind, there was also something calling itself a “System” screeching. Looking at the clear, sunny weather and smelling the fragrance of food in the air, Xiang Changge punched the air, devoured five in-flight meals, and agreed to the System’s so-called mission to save the supporting female character.
In this retro novel, the Male Lead has a fiancée who dies early. The fiancée is immensely wealthy, so money is the most useless thing to her. Yet, she never knows what true happiness is; melancholy is her talent. After learning that the Male Lead’s kindness towards her is only due to guilt and a sense of duty from an elder-arranged engagement, she actively chooses to withdraw, thus fulfilling the beautiful love story between the overbearing CEO Male Lead and the passionate, innocent female lead. However, because there’s nothing left in the world worth her staying for, she chooses to leave this world alone on her 24th birthday.
Xiang Changge’s mission is to help the supporting female character regain her confidence in life and live happily. Having just been threatened by the System that she’d be “cremated” if she failed the mission, Xiang Changge smacked her lips, which vaguely still tasted of dried earthworms, and said, “That’s it?”
System: “…” A confident host, are we? Interesting.
Mission One: Guide the supporting female character to eat three meals a day on time. At 7:30 a.m., the butler, Xiang Changge, easily enters the room, picks up Yu Qing—who had been sitting by the bay window all night watching the sunrise at a 45-degree angle—and carries her to a dining table laden with 49 different dishes. After handing Yu Qing a bowl of plain porridge, she single-handedly sweeps clean the table of delicacies.
Holding her bowl and watching the person across from her eat with gusto, Yu Qing drinks a spoonful of porridge on an impulse, then suddenly realizes something: “I locked the door, didn’t I? How did you get in?”
Xiang Changge: “Oh, Butler Academy taught me lockpicking.”
Yu Qing: “…”
Mission Two: Guide the supporting female character to experience the joys of life. Xiang Changge pondered this, and the next day, handed Yu Qing a contract.
Yu Qing, thinking it was a letter of resignation, took it and saw the title: “Wilderness Survival Reality Show Season 2 Participation Details”.
Participants: Yu Qing, Xiang Changge.
Yu Qing: “?!!!”
After a butler mysteriously appeared, Yu Qing’s life became like this— Sitting alone in her studio, looking at a painting steeped in melancholy, she self-mockingly said: “As expected, melancholy is my talent…”
Suddenly, someone outside the door shouted: “Melancholy Sis, time to eat!” Startled, Yu Qing’s hand shook, adding a jarring streak of gold to the painting. In the music room, Yu Qing played the piano until dusk.
Watching the last sliver of sunset disappear on the horizon, she whispered: “I am trapped in darkness, unable to see a single ray of light…” Click.
The large European-style chandelier, composed of ninety-nine small floral lamps, flickered on. The blinding light made Yu Qing instinctively shut her eyes.
The familiar voice from the doorway transmitted: “Darkness Sis, time to eat!”
