The Male Lead’s Backyard is on Fire [Transmigration] - Chapter 6
Yu Chi Li let out a groan with a deep frown. Her back had just slammed against a stone, and the pain was piercing. Furthermore, that person was still pressing down on her, making it impossible to get up and causing agonizing discomfort.
The person appeared to be a woman with a soft body and an indescribable floral scent.
“Hey, aren’t you going to get up? Are you trying to crush me to death?” Yu Chi Li grumbled.
The warm body in front of her hurriedly scrambled up in a clumsy manner. Looking somewhat at a loss, she whispered a small “Sorry.”
Yu Chi Li felt extremely frustrated. What had she done to deserve this? She was just trying to watch the excitement and ended up getting flattened. Was this the inevitable fate of being a female supporting character? Supporting characters really have no rights!
A pair of slender hands gently supported her arm, attempting to pull her up. However, Yu Chi Li was in too much pain to exert any strength. After struggling for a while, she remained lying exactly where she was.
“I am sorry. I will go get some medicine for you.”
The voice was soft and sweet. It was very pleasant to hear. She was surely a very gentle girl.
Yu Chi Li naturally had a good impression of gentle people. After her mind wandered for a moment, she quickly waved her hand. “No need, I can do it myself.”
She lay on the grass for a while until she felt better, and then she slowly sat up. However, when she focused her eyes, the person was already gone. Only a mess of scattered leaves remained on the ground, along with a faint lingering floral fragrance in the air.
“Why run? I am not the Princess, and I will not eat you,” Yu Chi Li muttered, feeling a bit of regret.
A woman with such delicate features was likely a maid in the manor. Although the woman had crashed into her, Yu Chi Li did not feel angry. In fact, she found it somewhat amusing. She was much better than that ungrateful and ice-cold female lead.
“Greetings, Madam.” A crisp voice rang out. Yu Chi Li then realized that there had been two people here earlier. It was this sudden shout that had caused her to get hit.
She immediately felt a bit annoyed. She turned to look and saw a woman standing before her with a smile that did not seem very sincere. The ancient back courtyards were indeed full of beauties, Yu Chi Li thought.
The woman had dark, bright eyes and curved eyebrows. She looked to be about sixteen years old and appeared pure and lovely. However, the smile on her lips made her look far less harmless than her appearance suggested.
Lou Yue. The name appeared in Yu Chi Li’s mind. This was the person she had seen at the family feast that day. In the book, she was a villain second only to the wicked supporting character herself. Born in a place of entertainment, she was cunning and deeply loved by Lu Yunkui. However, her final ending was not a happy one. After all, those who opposed the female lead rarely had good endings.
Although the two of them shared a similar plight, Yu Chi Li inexplicably disliked her. Perhaps it was because her malice was far too obvious.
“There is no need to be so formal. Just call me Princess,” Yu Chi Li said with a smile.
Lou Yue’s expression changed slightly, but she still gave a bright smile. “Yes, Princess.”
“Was that a maid just now? Why did you let her climb so high? What would happen if she fell and lost her life?” Yu Chi Li asked with a frown.
“To answer the Princess, Lu Lang ordered me to watch her. She did something wrong and angered Lu Lang. If she really fell, it would be her deserved punishment.”
Yu Chi Li looked her up and down. Indeed, although she was cunning, her perspective was quite narrow. Calling him “Lu Lang” right in front of the legal wife was a common tactic used to provoke anger.
“Oh, I see. You may leave,” Yu Chi Li said flatly, acting as if she did not care at all.
In truth, she really did not care. As for Lu Yunkui, the sooner he died, the sooner she could relax. As for the petty schemes between the women of the back house, she was even less inclined to pay them any attention.
Lou Yue felt as if her punch had landed on a bale of cotton. She felt a surge of frustration but did not show it on her face. After performing a salute, she turned and walked away indignantly.
Yu Chi Li shook her head and finally remembered her actual task. She searched until she found Lu Yunkui’s study and pushed the door open. Directly ahead, she saw Liu Luoyi kneeling on the floor with messy hair. Yu Chi Li’s heart skipped a beat, and she hurriedly looked closer.
Fortunately, only her hair was a bit messy and there were some small scratches on her face. They looked as if they were accidentally caused by something sharp. Yu Chi Li felt relieved and turned to look at Lu Yunkui.
“Why did you ask for me?” Yu Chi Li asked.
Lu Yunkui put on his most gentle smile and approached Yu Chi Li. “I am your husband. I asked you to come because I missed you, naturally.”
Who are you trying to fool? Yu Chi Li thought.
“For the past few days, the Emperor ordered the organization of ancient palace records, so I have not seen you. I have truly been busy with official duties and had no free time. Additionally, with the three-year assessment approaching, I have been in my current post for three years and need to be more cautious,” Lu Yunkui said as he reached out to remove a blade of grass from Yu Chi Li’s head.
Yu Chi Li instinctively took a step back.
Lu Yunkui acted as if he did not see it and continued. “Li Er, once I am promoted and receive a higher salary, I will take you away from this small house to find a better place. Then, I will bring my parents from the hometown so we can live a good life together.”
Yu Chi Li gave a casual “Oh,” wondering what kind of scheme Lu Yunkui was brewing. She glanced sideways at Liu Luoyi and saw her with her head bowed. She seemed isolated from the world, appearing unable to hear anything happening here.
“Li Er.” Lu Yunkui slightly sharpened his tone, adding a hint of a threat.
Yu Chi Li turned around, gave him a look, and broke into a smile. “Alright then, keep working hard. Fighting!”
“What did you say?” Lu Yunkui frowned.
“Nothing,” Yu Chi Li said carelessly.
Lu Yunkui seemed to grow impatient. He reached out and grabbed Yu Chi Li’s arm, pulling her forcefully into his embrace. His voice became deeper. “I am speaking to you. You should listen carefully.”
“Over the next few days, go to the palace a few more times to pull some strings for me. Additionally, you can use the name of the King of the Northern Territory. Do you understand?”
He finally could not keep up the act anymore. Yu Chi Li gave a cold snort to herself. She forcefully shook off Lu Yunkui’s hand and smoothed the wrinkles on her sleeve with an impatient look.
“I do not have time for that. Besides, when I married you, I almost cut ties with my father. Now you want me to use his name to help you? That is impossible.”
“Or is it that you only married me to make your promotion easier?” Yu Chi Li shifted the conversation and raised her eyes slightly, looking directly into Lu Yunkui’s eyes.
Lu Yunkui was startled, and his gaze flickered. He had not expected Yu Chi Li to be so difficult to control. In the past, she would never have refused him if he said the word. Moreover, as he looked into Yu Chi Li’s eyes now, he felt a chill down his spine. Those pupils that were once pure and simple now seemed like an abyss where nothing could be glimpsed.
Lu Yunkui lowered his eyes and chuckled softly. “How could that be? I married you because I want to grow old together with you.”
You are full of lies, Yu Chi Li thought.
“I do not have that kind of ability. Besides, are you not one of the rare young talents in the capital? The Emperor is wise and sees everything clearly. If you are truly talented, why would I need to pull strings?”
Lu Yunkui’s expression changed.
Yu Chi Li suddenly turned away and her tone became lighthearted. “So, since Lu Yunkui is full of learning and skilled in his studies, there is no need to worry about not being promoted. I love you so much that I naturally trust you.”
“Do you agree?” Yu Chi Li asked with a smile.
Lu Yunkui clenched his fists and forced a smile.
“That is settled then. There is no need to worry.” Yu Chi Li reached out to fan herself with her hand. She sat down gracefully, picked up a piece of pastry, and began to taste it.
On the other side, Lu Yunkui continued to clench his fists with rage burning in his eyes. He had a very strong sense of self-esteem and hated it when others looked down on him. He was also a person who sought revenge for the smallest grievance, which was evident from how he treated Liu Luoyi’s father. He had a typical petty mindset.
Lu Yunkui looked at Yu Chi Li with a growing murderous intent. However, Yu Chi Li was still a Princess and remained useful for now. He could not touch her yet. He would settle the score once she was no longer useful.
Yu Chi Li naturally noticed his murderous intent, but she knew she was safe for now, so she did not care at all. Being able to anger this disgusting male lead to such an extent gave her a great sense of accomplishment!
“You, go pour some tea for the Princess,” Lu Yunkui said in a low voice, trying to hide his hostility.
Liu Luoyi’s body trembled. She then stood up slowly, picked up the teapot, poured a cup of water, and brought it over to Yu Chi Li.
Yu Chi Li looked up and noticed that Liu Luoyi’s right foot was slightly lame.
Could that girl from earlier have been her? However, since she was currently wearing servant’s clothes, it was difficult to tell.
“Princess, please,” Liu Luoyi said. Her tone was cold and devoid of emotion.
Yu Chi Li reached out to take it, but Liu Luoyi bypassed her hand and placed the cup directly on the table, causing some tea to splash out.
Yu Chi Li immediately dismissed the thought and curled her lip. The girl from earlier had been soft and sweet, unlike Liu Luoyi who was cold and unfriendly.
“Is this how you serve the Princess?” Lu Yunkui raised an eyebrow.
“Pour another cup for me,” he said.
Liu Luoyi did not look at him. She poured another cup of tea and handed it to Lu Yunkui. Suddenly, Lu Yunkui snatched the cup and splashed all of the tea onto Liu Luoyi’s face.
Yu Chi Li was startled and looked at Lu Yunkui with a frown.
What kind of trash is this man? He did not dare to oppose her, so he went to bully Liu Luoyi who had no way of fighting back?
Liu Luoyi instinctively turned her head slightly. The water soaked her hair and clothes, clinging to her eyelashes like a thin, sparkling veil. Liu Luoyi closed her eyes with resentment. When she turned back, her expression was as calm as before.
Fortunately, the tea had been sitting for a while and was not as scalding as when it was first brewed. Otherwise, that beautiful face would have been disfigured. Yu Chi Li sighed.
“You are no longer a young lady. You are now my servant. I say what goes, and you are not allowed to disobey!” Lu Yunkui said every word with intense hostility.
He was tall and stood before Liu Luoyi with a presence full of pressure.
