- The Male Lead’s Backyard is on Fire [Transmigration]
- Chapter 4 - The Princess and the Scumbag Hero
“You son of a bitch!” Yu Chi Li suddenly turned and emerged from her hiding spot. She truly could not listen any longer. How did such a world-class scumbag manage to attain the position of the male lead?
Unfortunately, Lu Yun Kui was in the heat of the moment and did not realize that an additional person had appeared behind him.
Yu Chi Li spun in place and grabbed a door bolt that had fallen from the entrance. She raised her hand and swung it directly at the back of Lu Yun Kui’s head.
There was a dull thud. Lu Yun Kui lost all his momentum and collapsed limply onto Liu Luo Yi.
The entire process was exceptionally efficient and executed without a moment of hesitation.
Liu Luo Yi was terrified once again. She struggled desperately to push Lu Yun Kui off her. In her urgency, the jagged porcelain shard in her hand left several gashes on Lu Yun Kui’s arm.
Yu Chi Li hurried forward and used all her strength to drag Lu Yun Kui off the bed. She slammed him onto the floor. As she hauled him, she muttered that he was as heavy as a dead pig.
Outside the door, a servant heard the commotion and shouted anxiously, “Eldest Young Master! I am coming in!”
Yu Chi Li let out a furious roar. “Shut up! This Princess has important matters to discuss with your master. Keep a good watch at the door!”
The original owner’s sharp and pungent personality was indeed powerful. The row of servants exchanged glances and did not dare to utter another word.
Gasping for breath, Liu Luo Yi slowly pulled herself up and looked helplessly at Yu Chi Li. Her clothes were half torn, her vermillion lips were bloodied, and her fair, delicate shoulders, paired with her tear-filled eyes, were truly alluring.
Yu Chi Li felt her heart skip a beat for an unknown reason. She quickly shut her eyes and reached down to roughly tear off Lu Yun Kui’s outer robe, wrapping Liu Luo Yi up tightly.
Only then did she dare open her eyes. She immediately mocked herself in her mind, reminding herself that they were both women and there was no reason to panic.
Liu Luo Yi’s gaze remained vacant. She reached out to pull the robe tighter and stepped off the bed, walking slowly toward the door as if she were possessed.
Yu Chi Li did not care about anything else and rushed forward to stop her. If she let the girl go out looking like that, it would be a disaster.
“Hey, wake up!” Yu Chi Li shouted shrilly into her ear.
Hearing this, the servants outside stirred again. They exchanged looks and speculated about what was happening inside. Because of their wild guesses, they were even more afraid to enter.
Liu Luo Yi finally jolted back to reality and her eyes regained focus. Before she could see who was in front of her, she suddenly lunged forward and hugged Yu Chi Li tightly.
The sudden embrace of the soft, fragrant girl left Yu Chi Li at a loss. She had not had many friends in the past and had never been this physically intimate with anyone.
“Mother, save me. Save me, I am so scared,” Liu Luo Yi sobbed. She huddled her body as deeply as possible into the arms of the person in front of her to find a sliver of safety.
Yu Chi Li felt helpless. Fearing that Lu Yun Kui might wake up at any moment, she gently patted Liu Luo Yi’s back and said softly, “Be good. I am here and you are safe.”
Liu Luo Yi seemed to calm down. She rubbed her head against Yu Chi Li’s shoulder and mumbled softly, “Mother, do not go.”
Yu Chi Li did not dare to look down. Liu Luo Yi had an incredibly good figure. Though she looked slender and frail, she was well-developed. Even though they were both women, Yu Chi Li felt strange.
She reminded herself that she was a girl from Northeast China who grew up in public bathhouses, so she should not be afraid of this. She could not understand her own reaction.
On the floor, Lu Yun Kui stirred slightly. Yu Chi Li knew that if they stayed here any longer, neither of them would escape today. She decided to finish the matter and delivered a swift chop to the back of Liu Luo Yi’s neck.
Liu Luo Yi went still.
Yu Chi Li muttered a prayer for forgiveness. She took off her own oversized outer jacket and put it on Liu Luo Yi. Then, with great effort, she dragged Lu Yun Kui back onto the bed and straightened him out.
She looked at the defenseless Lu Yun Kui and wondered if she should just kill him now.
Suddenly, a sharp pain surged through her heart. Yu Chi Li let out a muffled groan and nearly fell to her knees in front of Lu Yun Kui.
“I will not kill him! I am not killing him!” she hurriedly thought to herself. After a few seconds of meditation, the pain subsided.
It appeared that she truly could not kill him. Yu Chi Li exhaled and gave Lu Yun Kui a vicious kick. She turned to help Liu Luo Yi up and propped the girl against her shoulder. However, the girl was completely unconscious and could not walk.
After a moment of thought, Yu Chi Li bent down and picked Liu Luo Yi up in her arms. The girl’s body was soft and light, requiring no effort at all.
She strode out the door. A crowd of servants swarmed toward her, but Yu Chi Li maintained a calm facade. “Your master is asleep. Do not wake him unless there is a reason.”
The servants bowed and scraped in agreement.
Yu Chi Li walked naturally until she was out of their sight, then she bolted. She sprinted all the way back to her own courtyard and burst through the gates, nearly colliding with Xin Ran.
Seeing her savior, Yu Chi Li tossed the person in her arms directly to Xin Ran. She then turned, slammed the gate shut, and locked it before collapsing against the door while panting for breath.
Xin Ran looked at Yu Chi Li with a dazed expression and then looked down at the person she was holding. She let out a scream and nearly dropped Liu Luo Yi.
“If you drop her, I will drop you,” Yu Chi Li said while wiping sweat from her forehead.
In her past life, she had been a law-abiding citizen. She had killed many animals, but this was her first time hitting a person. Although she looked composed, she was panicking internally.
“Princess, what did you do just now? Why did you bring her back? And why is she dressed like this?” Xin Ran’s expression was odd as she looked at Liu Luo Yi’s disheveled state.
“Do not overthink it. Find a room to settle her in and change her into clean clothes. I need to rest.” Yu Chi Li held her chest and trudged through the luxurious inner courtyard to her room.
She collapsed onto the bed and did not wake up until the sun had set. When Yu Chi Li opened her eyes, she saw the sky was a blend of deep blue and fiery red. A massive wave of loneliness suddenly washed over her. She had come to a strange era and was all alone.
However, Yu Chi Li’s personality would not allow her to stay sentimental for long. She took a deep breath and sat up. There were still many problems to solve and she had to survive.
Yu Chi Li stretched and wandered over to the side wing. Liu Luo Yi was still fast asleep. Yu Chi Li sat down and drank tea while watching the golden sunset fade behind the mountains.
Finally, Liu Luo Yi slowly woke up. She looked confusedly at the plum blossom patterned bed curtains. The faint scent of sandalwood from the incense burner made her feel dazed.
“You are finally awake,” Yu Chi Li said with a yawn.
Hearing a voice, Liu Luo Yi suddenly recoiled and looked at Yu Chi Li with wariness.
Yu Chi Li felt gloomy about the change in her attitude. She walked over and lit the candles one by one. The room brightened instantly. “I saved you, after all. Is this how you thank me?”
Liu Luo Yi’s eyes flickered as she looked down at her body.
“Do not worry, he did not get his way because I knocked him out,” Yu Chi Li said with a chuckle.
Liu Luo Yi’s gaze remained guarded. After a moment, she lowered her head and whispered a thank you.
“Is that all?” Yu Chi Li was disappointed. She thought this act would win over the female lead, but the girl remained as prickly as ever. It was going to be a long road ahead.
“What else do you want? I have nothing worth using, and he does not truly love me anyway. I only have this worthless life. If you want it, then take it,” Liu Luo Yi said flatly with a mocking smile.
Yu Chi Li realized that Liu Luo Yi was not naive, but was instead like a little hedgehog covered in thorns. No wonder she eventually kills the female supporting character in the original story. She wondered why the girl did not just kill the male lead instead.
“I am not going to do anything to you. I am going to help you. Do you believe me?” Yu Chi Li decided to try one more time.
Liu Luo Yi sat with her knees hugged to her chest and did not reply. Her eyelashes trembled slightly in the candlelight.
Yu Chi Li sighed. If the girl did not want to trust her, then so be it. Since this was the person who killed Yu Chi Li in the original book, keeping a distance might be for the best. “I will not force you. I will have Xin Ran take you back.”
Liu Luo Yi nodded and slowly climbed out of bed, though the process was difficult. The clothes she was wearing belonged to Yu Chi Li and were too long for her. Furthermore, Yu Chi Li’s taste in clothes was rather flamboyant.
As Liu Luo Yi bent over to find her shoes, the tassels on her sleeves and waist became tangled. She nearly tumbled off the bed. Yu Chi Li hurried forward to steady her and cursed Xin Ran in her heart for picking such an impractical outfit.
Clearly, Liu Luo Yi also realized this was intentional, and the blame fell on Yu Chi Li. She shot Yu Chi Li a look but said nothing.
Yu Chi Li felt that the misunderstanding was even worse now. “Thank you for the shelter,” Liu Luo Yi said with a formal bow.
The servants in the courtyard had lit the lanterns. Yu Chi Li strode ahead while Liu Luo Yi followed with small steps. Her etiquette was flawless, yet Yu Chi Li felt inexplicably irritated by her distant attitude.
Suddenly, Xin Ran came running toward them in a panic. “Princess! The Groom is here!”
A hand reached out from behind Xin Ran and roughly pushed her aside. Lu Yun Kui’s face appeared under the lantern light. He looked more like a ghost than a man.
Yu Chi Li remained calm, but Liu Luo Yi gasped in horror and stopped dead in her tracks.
“Who was it,” Lu Yun Kui said in a low voice, “that injured me during the day?”
