The Mad Beauty and the Sick Young Lady [Transmigration Novel] - Chapter 6
On the beach, a hint of golden light gradually appeared on the horizon the sun was about to rise.
Su Li was very excited, ignoring her headache from the sea wind, and kept walking forward. Her feet touched the seawater, which was soaking wet, startling her into hopping back.
Jiang Zhuoye reached out and gently steadied her, separating their touch immediately after.
“Ah… thank you.”
“It’s nothing. You can sit here and watch.”
Jiang Zhuoye sat down on the blanket herself and patted the spot next to her.
Su Li sat down too, her eyes glued to the sea, watching the golden sunlight emerge, thread by thread, directly from the water.
It was truly beautiful. Su Li felt that coming here today was absolutely worth it. This was completely different from the beautiful scenery viewed online; being here, it was incredibly stunning.
“Haven’t you seen a sunrise over the sea before?”
Jiang Zhuoye’s voice was soft, carried by the sea wind, making it sound a little blurry and even more gentle.
“No… I’ve been in poor health since childhood, so I’ve rarely been to the beach, and never at night.”
Su Li answered with a slight regret.
“Is that so? Then why did you suddenly decide to come out to watch the sunrise?”
“It wasn’t sudden… I just felt like I couldn’t keep living like this, like a bird locked in a cage… I can’t just nest at home until I die, right? Haha, why did I suddenly talk about death? It might be a bit heavy, sorry.”
Su Li grew a little sad as she spoke, staring at the half-sun, which was golden-red, and her eyes felt sore. She rubbed them.
A pair of sunglasses was considerately handed to her from the side.
Su Li took them in surprise, put them on, and smiled:
“Thank you, you’re very well prepared.”
Jiang Zhuoye slowly put away the bag in her hand, opened a bag of potato chips, and offered the whole bag:
“Are you hungry? Have some.”
Looking at the spicy potato chips, Su Li’s instinctive refusal came out:
“I can’t eat spicy food, and I’ve never eaten potato chips, they’re unhealthy…”
As soon as the words left her mouth, she realized something and glanced up at Jiang Zhuoye.
Jiang Zhuoye smiled, slightly teasing, and winked:
“Never mind then.”
She reached into the bag herself, took out a chip, and placed it between her delicate and beautiful lips, making a soft “crunch” sound that was pleasant to hear.
It was like music.
Su Li couldn’t help but reach out and grab Jiang Zhuoye’s wrist. Through the thin, close-fitting wool sweater, she could feel the other person’s slender joints and a pleasant warmth.
“I, I’ll try one.”
Jiang Zhuoye laughed heartily and encouragingly held the bag closer to her.
Su Li cautiously took a chip and put it in her mouth. She bit down, mimicking Jiang Zhuoye’s earlier movement, and a “crunch” sounded.
An indescribable spicy flavor overwhelmed Su Li’s mouth and tongue, making her involuntarily squint. She wanted to open her mouth to pant, but then found she still had chip crumbs inside, so she had to tightly close her lips, tears welling up in the corners of her eyes.
An open can of coke was handed to her from the side.
Su Li was usually only allowed to drink juice and water during meals, and at most a sip of someone else’s coke. This drink was half sugar in a cup of water, placing a huge burden on her kidneys. Su Li rarely drank it and didn’t much like the stimulating taste.
But now, she had no other choice. With the spiciness in her mouth, she could only grab the coke, pour it in, and gulp a large mouthful down with the chip.
“Ah woo…”
The burning heat in her mouth was thoroughly suppressed by the icy coolness and bubbles. The sweetness of the coke filled her mouth, and the salty flavor of the chips was suddenly highlighted.
For some reason, Su Li felt her whole body ignite.
This was clearly dangerous, unhealthy, and awful, and it might be followed by stomach pain, mouth ulcers, and other problems.
But the combination of chips and coke, this kind of thrill, was addictive.
Su Li calmed her heart rate and turned her head to look at Jiang Zhuoye:
“So… so spicy.”
Jiang Zhuoye smiled, her eyes deep. A strand of her black hair was illuminated by the rising sun, turning a translucent gold, and her cheeks were warm with a golden hue.
“Is it good?”
She insisted on asking.
“…Delicious.”
Su Li had to answer honestly. Human taste buds are naturally vulnerable to stimulation yet love it, and she was no exception.
Jiang Zhuoye laughed:
“You are a truly interesting person. You’ve never had chips and coke, yet you’re willing to come out at midnight to see the sea with a stranger like me.”
Su Li also found it quite magical. She ate another chip and took a sip of coke. After feeling the battle of ice and fire in her mouth, she exhaled:
“You’re not exactly a stranger, are you? You’re a big star, and we’re both women, so it’s not like you’d do anything to me. And besides…”
She hesitated for a moment, and Jiang Zhuoye immediately pressed:
“Besides what?”
Su Li smiled, a little shyly:
“I’ve already set up an emergency alarm call, and before coming, I sent text messages to my friends. I also left a note for my family explaining who I was with. They will all protect my safety.”
Jiang Zhuoye’s smile slowly changed. She looked slightly disappointed:
“So you don’t trust me at all.”
Su Li:
“It’s not that I don’t trust you, it’s just taking necessary safety precautions. And didn’t you just say yourself, coming out to see the sea at midnight with a stranger like you? You thought it was dangerous yourself.”
Jiang Zhuoye was stunned. It had been a long time since she had experienced this feeling of being unable to refute, of digging her own trap. After a moment, she could only give a self-mocking laugh.
Su Li noticed the atmosphere was off, but she had little experience in social interaction. Thinking it would probably pass soon, she focused on eating the chips and drinking the coke.
In a blink, she saw many other spicy snacks: dried tofu, spicy strips, spicy peas. She gathered them all and put them on her side, munching away happily.
The sun finally rose completely. Jiang Zhuoye looked at the bright golden sunlight and spoke with a smile:
“You did the right thing.”
Su Li felt a little anxious and turned to look at her:
“Are you angry?”
Jiang Zhuoye turned her face, her smile bright:
“Why would I be angry? I just feel that some of my previous assumptions about you were wrong.”
Her eyes seemed to sparkle with stars. When she spoke, her voice was soft and gentle, with a hook at the end of every sentence, both sincere and captivating:
“You are more wonderful than I imagined.”
Su Li returned home by herself at ten in the morning. Jiang Zhuoye had helped her call a designated driver.
Thus, the sports car was back in the Su family’s garage.
When Su Li got out of the car, Li Zhenzhen stood in front of the car, leading a large line of house staff who followed timidly.
Li Zhenzhen’s face was as black as an unwashed pot bottom used for ten years:
“Where did you go? Out to watch the sunrise without sleeping all night? You’re quite the romantic, huh?”
That final “huh” was elevated in tone, fully indicating Li Zhenzhen’s frantic urge to complain inwardly.
Su Li, looking pathetic, pulled out her big move for pity:
“Mommy, don’t be angry. I just wanted to see it… I won’t do it again. I’ll only see it this one time in my life, and that’s enough.”
Li Zhenzhen immediately covered her ears:
“Phooey, phooey! A young girl like you, talking about ‘a lifetime’ so casually, you really dare to say it! Stop talking, go home, wash up properly, and rest for the day. You are not allowed to leave the house today!”
No amount of charm or coaxing worked for Su Li. She could only lie in bed under Li Zhenzhen’s strict gaze, where even moving a finger could earn a glare.
Lunch was also eaten in bed. Su Li lay among a pile of warm milk, tuna salad, brown rice porridge, cherry tomatoes, and cherries, bored out of her mind looking at these healthy foods, and sighed.
She secretly took out her phone, downloaded a food delivery app, added a large quantity of chips, coke, spicy beef jerky, and self-heating hot pot to her cart, and placed the order!
Half an hour later, the delivery driver was stopped outside the complex and called Su Li. Su Li then begged her favorite nanny since childhood, Zhang Ma, to go down and retrieve the items, repeatedly instructing Zhang Ma not to look inside the bag when she left.
She tore open the plastic bag. A large assortment of snacks in various flavors was spread around her. Just looking at them was satisfying. She took a sip of coke ah, a life of luxury.
Su Li lay in a state of decadence all day. Because she was ordered not to go to the studio, her creative inspiration exploded, but she had no way to express it. She had no choice but to pick up a pen and casually draw in her notebook.
When she finished drawing and looked closely, Su Li realized it was just a very cute little comic strip!
Su Li remembered one item on her bucket list was to try being an internet celebrity. An idea struck her, and she immediately opened her phone’s Weibo app, registered an account, and named it [Miss Sick].
She then went to the small study room her family had set up for her during her school days, where there was a printer. She scanned the comic she had just drawn into an electronic image and posted it to the newly registered Weibo account.
“Serialized comic, Miss Sick’s Daily Life, pure original work. Welcome everyone to check it out!”
After doing all this, Su Li was very excited and started refreshing constantly. Unfortunately, no one paid attention to her. The account remained at 0 comments and 0 shares.
It seemed that becoming an internet celebrity wasn’t something that happened overnight; it required long-term accumulation. She decided to just use this as a channel to record her daily life whether it succeeded or not didn’t matter.
Su Li adjusted her mindset and happily continued to draw comics. She started designing the people in her life as fictional characters and sketching out a storyline. That night, she drew another strip and uploaded it immediately.
Su Li now felt that ever since she left Ying Feiyan, her life had become colorful.
Before, the only thing she did every day was wait for news from Ying Feiyan. The happiest time of the week was spent with Ying Feiyan, and the rest of the time was empty and lonely.
But now, Su Li could choose to call and chat with others anytime, or immerse herself in drawing for hours, without worrying about missing anyone’s message, enjoying the pure and simple pleasures of life.
Even the friends she was making were more outstanding than before… Just as Su Li thought this, she received a message from Jiang Zhuoye:
【Did you enjoy the sunrise today?】
Su Li’s lips curved into a smile, and she quickly typed:
【Very happy!】
Jiang Zhuoye also replied quite quickly:
【Do you want to come out and play with me again next time?】
Su Li felt slightly strange:
【Of course, why not?】
Jiang Zhuoye was typing for a while before replying:
【Good. Where do you want to go next time?】
Su Li flipped through her bucket list, thought for a long time, and finally typed:
【I’ll tell you when I figure it out! Your work must be very tiring. You really went out of your way today, please take care of yourself!】
Jiang Zhuoye quickly replied:
【Thank you, you take care of yourself too. Talk later then.】
Su Li put down her phone with satisfaction, thinking that the female lead was truly polite, sincere, and had a sense of propriety in her words. It seemed she genuinely liked her, and perhaps already considered her a friend.
She just wondered when the romance between Jiang Zhuoye and Ying Feiyan would finally begin?
She was still slightly looking forward to it, wanting to know what kind of tactics would be used to conquer a unique and outstanding woman like Jiang Zhuoye.
