The Little Kitten Was Raised By Her Childhood Friend To Be His Wife - Chapter 5
Actually, that wound had healed long ago, and the scar was nearly invisible. But the little lion’s heart felt incredibly warm right now, his younger brother was truly aching and worrying for him!
The little lion gently licked the kitten, happily telling him that it didn’t hurt anymore. Only then did the kitten’s “soybean” eyebrows relax.
The adults looked at one another, revealing loving and gratified smiles.
After that family feast, the relationship between the two little ones became even stickier.
For the first few days, because their rooms faced each other, the first thing the little lion did upon waking up every morning was to push open the window, run onto the terrace, and howl “Aowu, aowu!” toward the kitten’s room to say, “Good morning, little brother!”
The kitten would always appear on his own terrace right on time, waving his short little legs at the brother across the way.
And the very first thing the little lion did after returning from the nursery school was to rush straight to Ruan Ruan’s house. Ruan Ruan would also wait by the entrance hall early, sitting obediently at the time the brother usually got out of school. As soon as the brother stepped through the door, he would immediately run up to “tie-tie” (snuggle) with him.
When the two cubs were together, Ruan Ruan loved it most when his brother helped him groom his fur. His fur had grown a bit longer, and his tail had become fluffier. Once his brother finished grooming him, Ruan Ruan would learn to groom his brother in return.
However, whenever the kitten tried to groom the brother, his attention would be snatched away by the little lion’s tail. The little lion would purposely wag his tail to play with his brother.
“Mr. Tail!” The short-legged cat chased the tail, meowing happily.
Once he caught the tail, the kitten would be pulled into the little lion’s embrace. The little lion would continue grooming him, unable to bear the thought of his little brother getting tired from grooming him back.
The two cubs played and romped together, having the time of their lives, until Sang Yi with dark lines on her forehead and a twitching mouth, personally came to pick up her younger son.
Sometimes the little lion would act spoiled and simply sleep over at Ruan Ruan’s house, or take Ruan Ruan back to his own. Eventually, nine times out of ten, the two little guys slept together, and the parents on both sides got used to it.
Days passed one by one. Later, Ruan Ruan also started nursery school, but not the same one as the little lion. According to Federation regulations, cubs who haven’t yet transformed (shapeshifted) must attend nurseries corresponding to their species because they are too small to properly control their genetic instincts. Once they transform and enter elementary school, they are no longer distinguished by species.
Ruan Ruan did not belong to a predatory species, so he went to a different nursery. The nursery was very close to his home, he usually arrived home first and waited a little while for his brother to come find him after school.
Until one autumn day, Ruan Ruan waited at the entrance as usual, happily wagging his fluffy tail. He wanted to tell his brother many things that happened at the nursery today, like how he learned five new characters, or how he gathered the courage to eat the broccoli he hated during lunch. His brother would also share many stories with him.
Ruan Ruan waited and waited. It was already time for his brother to be home, but he hadn’t returned.
The kitten tilted his head. Did the teacher keep brother late again? It’s okay, I’ll wait a little longer!
After a while, there was a sound at the door. Ruan Ruan thought it was his brother and called out “Brother” in a soft, sweet voice, but the person who entered was his mother.
“Mama!”
Ling Xiao picked Ruan Ruan up and kissed him. Seeing no sign of the little lion, she asked, “Did Brother Xiao Ye not come today?”
Ruan Ruan shook his head, meowing that he would wait a bit longer.
Ling Xiao agreed, then turned and sent a message to Sang Yi. She cared for Xiao Ye deeply and wanted to ask if something had happened.
Looking at the photo Sang Yi sent back, Ling Xiao’s eyes softened as she replied, “That’s wonderful.”
Ling Xiao called Ruan Ruan over and told him that Brother Xiao Ye had something to do tonight and wouldn’t be coming, but tomorrow was a day off, and Xiao Ye said he would come to give him a surprise.
Ruan Ruan asked curiously what the surprise was. Ling Xiao winked at him mysteriously, keeping it a secret for now.
That night, Ruan Ruan slept with his mother. Before sleeping, he didn’t forget to confirm with her whether his brother would really come to find him tomorrow.
Ling Xiao stroked his head, tenderly telling him that he would.
The next day, Ruan Ruan woke up in a daze. By the time he woke, his mother had already gone downstairs.
Soon after, he heard a “thump, thump, thump” sound outside. Someone was running quickly toward the room. The door was soon pushed open, accompanied by the clear, loud voice of a young boy.”
Ruan Ruan was instantly wide awake. He saw a black-haired boy standing before him, wearing a handsome black baseball uniform paired with red sneakers and a cool black baseball cap. He was a bit shorter than Brother Xiao Zhe.
His handsome and upright features, though youthful, were already taking shape, and his “strong featured” (nongyan) cool appearance was beginning to show.
Because he had been running, his face was flushed, and his shoulders and chest heaved, but his deep brown eyes were sparkling, filled with irrepressible excitement.
Seeing this “little older brother” for the first time, Ruan Ruan felt a bit shy, his first instinct was to hide under the covers.
Outside the blanket, the other boy immediately shouted: “I’m here!”
Ruan Ruan froze for a moment, then quietly poked out his little head. His large, grape like eyes looked carefully. After watching for a moment, he called out timidly and uncertainly: “Brother?”
The boy broke into a huge grin and ran toward Ruan Ruan, reaching out both hands: “It’s me, it’s me! I’ve transformed!”
Ruan Ruan’s face instantly lit up with a smile. Like a little cannonball, he leaped out from the blanket and into his brother’s arms.
Wen Huaiye caught him firmly, using his nose and forehead to rub and nuzzle against the approaching cat head.
Ruan Ruan meowed excitedly in his brother’s arms: “Brother, you can hold me like Mama does now!” As he spoke, he wiggled like a little “cat worm” in his brother’s arms, acting spoiled and rolling around as much as he could.
Wen Huaiye held his brother steadily. He had wanted to hold him like this for a long time! The way his brother acted spoiled in his arms was so cute, his heart was practically bubbling with joy. He smiled until his eyes curved.
As the two cubs continued their snuggle session, Ling Xiao came up to call them for breakfast.
The little lion had shown signs of transformation yesterday at the nursery and had fallen into a deep sleep. Sang Yi, Wen Lianchuan, and Wen Huaizhe stayed by his side all night until he transformed in his sleep.
This morning, as soon as he woke up and realized he had actually transformed, he was so excited he jumped three feet high. The first thing he thought of was coming to find his brother, he was so happy he hadn’t even eaten breakfast yet. Ling Xiao specifically instructed the nanny to prepare a more sumptuous breakfast.
At the dining table, Ruan Ruan sat in his baby chair, looking at his brother with curiosity and joy: “Brother, why is your hair black?”
Wen Huaizhe was a golden lion, so his hair was gold. Wen Huaiye was a white lion, yet his hair was black.
Wen Huaiye puffed out his chest proudly: “Dad said it’s atavism (genetic throwback). My grandfather was a black lion.”
Ruan Ruan didn’t understand what atavism meant, but it sounded very impressive, so he nodded knowingly.
Ruan Ruan looked at Wen Huaiye’s clothes and hat for a while and praised him in an envious tone: “Brother, your clothes are so pretty! The hat is pretty too!”
Wen Huaiye bloomed with joy internally. He had specifically asked his mother to help him coordinate this outfit to see his brother. Sang Yi had prepared many clothes for him to wear after his transformation long ago.
Wen Huaiye generously took off his hat. Ruan Ruan watched as his brother stood up to put it on him, his eyes full of anticipation. However, the hat was too big for the kitten, as soon as it was put on, it slid down and covered his eyes.
The kitten wobbled his head around, saying in a milky voice: “Baby can’t wear brother’s hat.”
Wen Huaiye quickly got up to take the hat off for him.
He looked thoughtfully at the hat in his hand, rubbing his chin as if pondering something.
Suddenly, as if hit by an inspiration, he said excitedly: “I’ll make clothes for you! That way you can wear them!”
He could see that his brother was envious of him turning into human form and being able to wear handsome clothes. Since his brother couldn’t wear these clothes, he would just make some by hand!
Ruan Ruan tilted his head in confusion. Brother knows how to make clothes?
Wen Huaiye had a plan. He had heard while playing with Ruan Ruan that Auntie Ling Xiao knew how to knit. He turned to seek help from Ling Xiao nearby: “Auntie Ling, can you teach me how to knit clothes?”
Ling Xiao smiled, served the little lion another bowl of rice, and agreed. Today was a day off, and she had time. It was autumn, and it was a perfect time to knit a garment for Xiao Ye as well.
After breakfast, Ling Xiao brought out many different balls of yarn and spread them on the thick carpet. Wen Huaiye and Ruan Ruan were dazzled.
Ling Xiao suggested starting with something easier, like a hat.
Wen Huaiye asked Ruan Ruan what kind he wanted. Ruan Ruan didn’t hesitate: “Big lion! Aowu!”
Just imagining Ruan Ruan wearing the hat made Wen Huaiye feel it would be incredibly cute. He followed Ling Xiao’s lead and began learning from scratch, more serious than he had ever been in any class.
Ling Xiao was also very patient and meticulous in her teaching.
Ruan Ruan was having the time of his life amidst the yarn balls, poking them with his paws, curving his tail, and chasing the yarn everywhere. The living room was filled with the sound of his little purrs.
After a while, Wen Huaiye looked up from the yarn in his hands. Seeing the hat gradually taking shape, his heart felt sweet.
But soon, he realized a problem.
Why was the living room so quiet…?
The sound of the little purrs was gone…
And where was his brother? He was gone!
Wen Huaiye stood up abruptly, looking around nervously.
Finally, behind the sofa, he found a kitten covered in yarn, his paws snagged and unable to move.
Ruan Ruan lifted a paw, tilted his cat head, and squinted his round eyes into thin lines. He meowed softly and a bit shyly:
“Brother, baby is here~”
