The Little Kitten Was Raised By Her Childhood Friend To Be His Wife - Chapter 3
Sang Yi immediately sighed with practiced skill, covering her face, preparing to apologize to Ling Xiao.
Before Sang Yi could speak, Ling Xiao burst out laughing, interrupting her. Ling Xiao didn’t mind at all that Ruan Ruan had been licked into the shape of a mango pit, after all, it was just the cubs’ way of expressing affection.
Hearing his mother’s laughter, Ruan Ruan opened his eyes dizzily. Completely unaware of his “new hairstyle,” he let out soft, sweet meows toward Sang Yi and Ling Xiao: “Mama, Auntie, look! The fur Big Brother licked for me is so smooth and pwe-tty!”
Ten minutes later, the reluctant voice of the little lion rang out: “No! I want to sleep with Little Brother tonight!”
Sang Yi had intended to take her younger son and say goodbye, but she hadn’t expected the little lion to refuse to leave his brother’s side, even clamoring to stay the night.
The little lion held the tiny kitten, who was much smaller than himself, tightly in his paws, refusing to let go. The kitten, sporting his mango pit hairstyle, looked dazed and clueless as he was huddled in the little lion’s embrace.
Sang Yi found herself in a difficult position; her younger son’s personality was quite stubborn, and once he set his mind on something, he was hard to persuade.
Ling Xiao smiled and said to the little lion, “Then how about Xiao Ye stays with Little Brother today? You can keep him company.”
Sang Yi hesitated, worried about causing a disturbance, but Ling Xiao comforted her, saying it was no problem at all, the rooms in the house were mostly settled and ready, and Xiao Ye wouldn’t be a bother.
The little lion happily waved goodbye to his mother and joined Ling Xiao in seeing Sang Yi to the door.
Looking at her heartless, grinning “silly son,” Sang Yi smiled helplessly.
Before leaving, she reminded Ling Xiao to contact her immediately if the little lion misbehaved during the night. She also made plans with her old friend to host a private family gathering at her house tomorrow to celebrate their move.
As night fell, the two families had dinner in their respective homes.
Sang Yi, the father Wen Lianchuan, and the eldest son Wen Huaizhe sat together. After Wen Lianchuan and Wen Huaizhe heard Sang Yi describe how Xiao Ye and Ruan Ruan got along at Ling Xiao’s house that afternoon, both stopped their cutlery simultaneously, their expressions frozen.
Is this still the ‘Little Demon’ of our family? Did he get swapped with someone else?
Sang Yi lightly covered her face and let out a stifled laugh. “See? Your reactions are exactly like mine.”
Wen Lianchuan adjusted his glasses, incredulous. “I thought Xiao Ye was just joking when he said he wanted a younger brother.”
Their younger son had always had a three minutes attention span for everything, his focus was poor, and he never seemed to have any particularly close friends. Hearing his wife’s description was a massive shock.
Wen Huaizhe sat upright at the table. He was already in elementary school and had learned to shapeshift long ago. At this moment, acting like a little adult, he fell into deep thought. After a while, he put down his fork and let out a soft sigh.
Wen Lianchuan and Sang Yi looked at each other and smiled, then turned curiously toward him.
Wen Lianchuan asked tentatively, “What’s wrong, Xiao Zhe?”
Wen Huaizhe sighed gloomily. “I just hope that tonight, Ruan Ruan won’t be kicked out of bed by Wen Huaiye.”
This came from the unlucky older brother, Wen Huaizhe, who was occasionally forced to sleep in the same bed and was, without exception, kicked out by a sleeping Wen Huaiye.
Wen Lianchuan: “…” Sang Yi: “…”
The dining table fell into silence as the three of them lapsed into shared contemplation.
Meanwhile, at Ling Xiao’s house, the atmosphere was one of warmth and harmony.
Ruan Ruan’s dinner had been “taken over” by the little lion. Wen Huaiye fed Ruan Ruan completely before he and Ling Xiao ate their own dinner.
The two had a back and forth conversation, and every time the little lion finished speaking seriously, he didn’t forget to turn his head and check on Ruan Ruan, who was obediently licking his paws in the cradle. He looked at the kitten even more often than Ling Xiao did, a fact she noted with a smile.
After dinner, Ling Xiao led the little lion and Ruan Ruan to the nursery. The room was decorated very cozily; the bed was a custom-made nursery bed, large, soft, and at the perfect height.
The room was also filled with toys for a kitten to play with, along with a beautiful cat tree. The floor was covered with a thick carpet, the windows were wide and bright, and there were several potted plants on the balcony.
Ruan Ruan jumped off the little lion’s back and excitedly led his brother to the balcony, pointing at the plants with a proud meow: “Look, Brother! These are the flowers I grew!”
The little lion knew nothing about plants. He looked at the pots, they were all green, and none were blooming. However, hearing the kitten’s tone, his eyes rolled around playfully as he gave very enthusiastic support: “The ones you grew are so beautiful!”
Ruan Ruan lifted his head proudly, very satisfied with his brother’s praise.
The little lion’s gaze shifted out the window, and he quickly discovered something new. His emotions grew excited as he lifted his front paws to check, then confirmed with Ruan Ruan: “Little Brother, across from here is my room! Your room is right across from mine!”
The kitten tried to mimic his brother by standing up, but his legs were too short. He was wobbly and unsteady. Just as he was about to fall, the little lion gently bit his scruff and placed him back on his own back.
The kitten huffed and puffed as he skillfully climbed onto his brother’s head. Sure enough, he saw a window and a balcony on the opposite side. That room was currently dark.
Ruan Ruan beamed. “Baby and Brother are so close!”
“Yeah!” The little lion wagged his tail happily. “From now on, we can see each other every day!”
“Nn-nnh! Baby wants to see Brother every day!”
Listening to the conversation between the two little ones, a smile appeared on Ling Xiao’s face. She told them she was going to the study to handle some work and would check on them later.
Once Ling Xiao left, the two little ones started playing pre-sleep games. First, they played with toys on the carpet, then they jumped onto the bed to play a game of “catch me if you can.”
The kitten hid behind the quilt, flattening his ears. His big, round eyes were focused intently on the front, his pupils becoming large circles as his little bottom wiggled back and forth.
The kitten locked onto his target, waited for the right moment, and pounced in front of the little lion: “Aowu! Ruan Ruan is a big lion!”
The little lion cooperated by falling over, pretending to be “dead” as he exaggerated: “Ah! I’ve been bitten by a big lion!”
The kitten seriously furrowed his tiny brows and began directing the scene in a milky voice: “Brother, you can’t talk when you fall down. You have to close your eyes, too.”
The little lion snapped upright. “Oh, right! Let’s do it again, Little Brother!”
“Aowu! The big lion is coming again!”
A long time later, the two little ones finally grew tired. They pulled up the little quilt together.
The kitten acted spoiled, asking his brother to read him a bedtime story, and even dragged a storybook from somewhere.
The little lion looked at the cover. It depicted a character in black armor and a helmet, with dark gold metallic wings on his back. The title was The Adventures of the Winged Armor Warrior.
The little lion flipped through the text inside and peeked at the kitten, swallowing hard. He felt a bit guilty.
Help! Inside, the little lion’s heart was drumming like a frantic beat. Back at the nursery, he hadn’t listened to the lessons on learning characters, he had spent all his time causing trouble. If the kitten found out he couldn’t read, what if he didn’t want to sleep with him anymore?
But under the kitten’s wide eyed, expectant gaze, the little lion gritted his teeth and began.
Since both cubs couldn’t shapeshift yet and didn’t have human hands, flipping pages was difficult. Luckily, there was a small fairy like robot that could help them.
The kitten exposed his soft, chubby belly, pressing his head against the little lion’s head, and began to listen to the story seriously.
The beginning of the story was fine, the little lion could read it word by word. But as it went on, there were more and more words he didn’t recognize. Fortunately, the little lion was quick-witted. He had a sudden inspiration and started incorporating his own wild imagination into the plot, weaving a completely new story and even making it make sense.
This wasn’t the first time Ruan Ruan had heard this story. He vaguely felt it was different from when his mother read it, but how could a cub care about that? The story Brother told was so interesting! He spoke with such vivid expressions. Ruan Ruan loved it so much that one book wasn’t enough, he wiggled his little body in his brother’s arms, acting spoiled to hear a second one.
How could the little lion resist the kitten’s clingy behavior? He readily began the second book. Halfway through, both little ones started nodding off, their eyelids fighting to stay open.
When Ling Xiao finished her work and opened the door, she saw the two cubs had fallen asleep hugging each other. The little quilt covered their bellies, and the storybooks were scattered over the covers.
With a gentle smile, Ling Xiao went over, kissed each of the cubs, turned off the light, and left.
After an unknown amount of time, the little lion slowly woke up to the sound of thunder and rain. He felt the soft little body in his arms trembling, making whimper-like sounds.
The little lion felt that he was a brave lion who wasn’t afraid of thunder. So, he huddled closer to Ruan Ruan, letting the kitten hide in his fur, and gently licked the kitten’s fur to soothe him.
The kitten muttered in his sleep, “Mama… Papa…”
As the little lion licked the kitten’s fur, he thought dizzily. Little Brother’s house is as big as mine, but in my house, I have Mama, Papa, and Big Brother. In Little Brother’s house, there’s only him and Mama.
Where did Little Brother’s Papa go? The little lion’s brain worked slower and slower. Thinking these thoughts, he gradually drifted back to sleep.
Ling Xiao had come back to check, worried. To her surprise, the two cubs were sleeping soundly. Ruan Ruan unexpectedly didn’t cry for his mother as he usually did during storms, he was held tightly in the little lion’s arms, sleeping peacefully.
Ling Xiao sat by the bed for a while, waiting until the thunder subsided before returning to her own room.
As the sky brightened, a new sunny day began.
The little lion opened his eyes and saw the kitten lying on his back, belly up. His eyes were tightly shut, and his four paws were stretched out straight at his sides. Even his little tail was perfectly straight. He was lying there in a perfectly square, stiff position.
Little Lion: !!!
Just as Ling Xiao was about to push the door open to wake them up, she heard the little lion’s urgent, heartbroken wail from inside the room:
“Waaaaah… Little Brother has turned into a wooden board! Waaaaahhh!!”
