- The Honest Man Was Targeted by His Ex-Boyfriend's Alpha Brother
- Chapter 2 - Debt Repayment: "Help me, please"
Chen Wang did not indulge him for a second. He crushed the cigarette out with his bare hand, brutally cutting off the one-sided flirtation.
“I have had nothing to do with him for a long time.”
Hua Yunlian stared at the ashes falling from Chen Wang’s palm. The orange sparks scattered like a tiny firework blooming for him before quickly fading into the dark.
“Oh?” Hua Yunlian found the reaction dull. He stood up, hands casually shoved in his pockets. “Then who has ‘Ge’ been wanting to have a relationship with lately?”
He looked down his nose at this cold, stubborn man, a mocking smirk playing on his lips.
“My father?”
“You!”
“Do not talk such nonsense.”
Chen Wang’s face turned from pale to flushed under his sister’s shocked gaze.
Hua Yunlian lifted the tip of his shoe. The faint red sole pressed against Chen Wang’s knee, rubbing against it rhythmically. Chen Wang’s trousers were not a luxury brand, but they were clearly well-ironed and maintained; their owner was a man who valued cleanliness.
But what Chen Wang carefully cherished was nothing more than a rag to the perverse Hua Yunlian.
“A student and a mentor, meeting by chance at the Federation Hospital. A debt of gratitude, a friendship transcending generations. If you cannot be my sister-in-law, do you want to be my stepmother?”
He leaned down and lowered his voice. His deep, magnetic tone sounded remarkably sincere.
“Ge, you are working so hard, I am almost moved to tears.”
Chen Wang was thoroughly humiliated by Hua Yunlian’s words. He bit his lip in embarrassment, the veins bulging in his fair, delicate neck. He had started his internship shortly after breaking up with that man.
A low-profile, graceful mentor often came to guide him. Chen Wang was incredibly grateful until he realized the way that teacher looked at him was laced with other emotions. At his core, Chen Wang was a traditional Beta. He only wanted to find another Beta to spend the rest of his life with. Falling in love with his ex-boyfriend, an Alpha, had been difficult enough. It was even more complicated considering the senior had such a massive age gap.
Later, he discovered the teacher was Hua Hongfei, the chairman of the Hua Corporation and the biological father of both his ex and the young master standing before him. Was fate determined to toy with him like this?
Chen Wang closed his eyes in shame but quickly regained his composure. “Your fiancée is in trouble, yet Young Master Hua only cares about my private life?”
Hua Yunlian suddenly withdrew his foot, the nerves in his temple pulsing erratically.
“Care about you? Do not flatter yourself.”
“You and your sister are equally vain, both social climbers,” he sneered. His pheromones began to destabilize. Even Chen Wang felt a crushing pressure in his throat. “So, tell me. How are we going to settle this?”
Chen Wang pursed his lips as a drop of cold sweat slid down his thin cheek. How would they settle it?
Of the two sons of the Hua family, Hua Yunlian was the second, reportedly an illegitimate son brought home later. He had a violent and eccentric personality, something Chen Wang had experienced more than once. If there were a “Young Master Hua Victims Association,” Chen Wang would be at the level of its president. Given the magnitude of the mess they had caused this time, he doubted anything he said would satisfy the man.
“I was the one who initiated the mark, but,” she coughed, “but she entered heat, she would have been in danger!”
Chen Wang clamped his hand over Chen Yuxi’s mouth and said urgently, “Give me three days. I will give you an answer in three days.”
Hua Yunlian leaned back on the leather sofa. Upon hearing this, his expression sharpened. “Three days?”
S-class Alphas were naturally domineering. Combined with his Slavic bloodline, his exotic features became even more intimidating when he turned cold. It was impossible to tell he was actually several years younger than Chen Wang.
“Is that okay?” Chen Wang asked apprehensively, trying to soften his tone. “President Hua.”
There was a faint trace of exhaustion on his handsome, upright face. He tentatively held out his phone, displaying a QR code.
“This is a serious matter, and I need to find a way. I will give you a solution in three days and contact you then.”
Assistant Lu could not stand it any longer and was about to step forward to stop them when he heard a beep. President Hua actually added him.
Before Chen Wang could breathe a sigh of relief, two bodyguards suddenly dragged him away. Though he had a tall, beautiful build, being forced to kneel between the young master’s legs made him look quite frail. To his horror, Hua Yunlian grabbed him by the chin and forced a glass of strong liquor down his throat. Chen Wang’s face turned bright red as he began to choke and cough.
Hua Yunlian tossed the empty glass aside, his eyes indifferent.
“One day. Deal.”
“Are you crazy?”
Once the full physical examination was over, Chen Wang glared at Chen Yuxi with lingering fear. He reached out to secure her IV line more firmly.
“How could you do something so scandalous? What exactly are they teaching you at school!”
He did not have those functions himself and did not understand the mechanics of marking, but he was starting to agree with their mother’s saying that not a single Alpha is any good. Chen Yuxi had taken a beating and was hurting all over. She was already in a foul mood, and being scolded only made her more furious.
“I am scandalous? I call that being helpful and chivalrous! I was just helping a poor little Omega in heat with no one to look after her! It just happened to be in a bed, haha!”
At twenty-seven, Chen Wang had only ever had one relationship. He was reserved to the point of being unromantic and never even used suggestive language. He was momentarily stunned by this twisted logic, the words catching in his throat.
“Shut up. Is this something to be proud of?”
His sister leaned back against the bed, her face dark. “I will contact them and handle it myself. Stop worrying about it.”
Seeing her talk so big while wearing a look of reminiscence, Chen Wang’s chest felt so tight he could hardly breathe. His fair face flushed slightly.
“How are you going to handle it? Do you have any idea what kind of person Hua Yunlian is? If he gets angry, he really will kill you!”
Chen Yuxi knew that, of course, and felt a twinge of fear. Chen Wang had been a top student since childhood. In a slum-dwelling family so poor they could barely eat, he was the golden child who was constantly praised. Chen Yuxi was his foil. The phrase she heard most growing up was to look at her brother. The constant comparison bred resentment, and their relationship had soured as they grew older.
Unlike Chen Wang, Chen Yuxi did things her own way. If she had not been on the verge of being beaten to death, she would have done anything to stop that phone call. She carelessly yanked out the IV needle, indifferent to the blood dripping down her hand.
Chen Wang frowned. “What are you doing now?”
“Stay out of my business.” Chen Yuxi put on her jacket. “And do not send me money. I make more as a DJ than you do. You are a doctor yet you are out driving a taxi. It is embarrassing!”
This little brat would never listen. Before striding away, she hesitated and looked at her brother.
“That Hua Yunlian, towards you. Never mind. He looks mentally unstable. Delete him immediately.”
After offending someone so powerful, even if one feared the young master, could they really just delete him? Moreover, Hua Yunlian had only given him one day. Where was Chen Wang supposed to find a wife to pay him back with?
He worked an entire day with a splitting headache, racking his brain the whole time. Finally, he thought of a way: a restoration surgery for Hua Yunlian’s Omega fiancée to accelerate the removal of the temporary mark his sister had left.
This surgery was illegal in the Federation. In the slums, it was usually just a scam targeting poor Omegas. Very few doctors actually knew how to perform it, but Chen Wang did. He had loved biology and medicine since he was a child, especially research into gland genetics. He had written a thesis at the age of thirteen. He had posted it online anonymously, and it had even sparked a small-scale discussion.
If it had not been for what happened later, his talent would have made him the most elite gland geneticist today. He never expected his talent would be used for this. The thought of breaking the law made him uneasy. He thudded his forehead against the steering wheel several times. Only after steeling his resolve did he lock the car and leave.
It was too late for the bus. Chen Wang dragged his weary body home on foot. The cold wind blew into his slightly open collar, kissing his flawless skin into a faint red. He often let the cold wind hit him like this, thinking of nothing. The physical pain helped keep him sober.
He pulled out his keys to open the door. “I will draft the wording in a bit, then give Hua Yunlian my answer.”
The old iron door swung open slightly before the key could touch it. Did he forget to lock the door?
In the vast expanse of Central City, Chen Wang had nowhere else to go. Before he could realize the danger, he had already stepped halfway into the pitch-black room, numbly fumbling for the switch. The light flickered on, and he finally saw.
The cramped, messy room was filled with tattooed thugs. They were staring at him with fixed grins as if they had been waiting a long time. It was bone-chilling. One of them sneered at him and grabbed his arm.
“Mr. Chen, you are back?”
Hua Yunlian waited all day and never received a message from Chen Wang. By the time he snapped out of it, his luxurious, black panther-like car was parked opposite a dilapidated housing complex. It looked so out of place it seemed to belong to another dimension.
The young master’s brow furrowed, showing blatant impatience. There was not even a parking space here. What kind of pathetic place was this?
His long, pale fingers swiped rapidly across his phone screen. New messages were popping up constantly, inviting him to a nightlife he usually enjoyed. He clicked his tongue and muted them one by one. Even after muting the last of his friends asking him out for a drink, that all-black profile picture still had not lit up with a message.
Chen Wang’s social media feed was sparse, with posts appearing only once every few months. Aside from high-end seminars, there were luxury brands. The posts were crafted to give the impression that he was living well and staying low-key.
He had seen it all before. The handsome man’s lips curled. He had not realized Chen Wang was still so vain. Back then, had he not liked Hua Jingchen just for the money? Hua Yunlian swiped back, but there was still no message. It seemed this “Ge” was not only vain but also untrustworthy. An inexplicable surge of irritation rose within him, and he gripped his phone tightly.
Why had he come to this dump? What was he waiting for?
Chen Wang’s voice was hoarse with desperation. “I sent the money yesterday! How did you find this place?!”
The leader of the men sneered. “Does Mr. Chen not know? You really have a great father.”
“He gambled and lost another million, all in your name. Now, with interest, you owe 1.2 million. If you add that to what you are already paying, how much is that total? How are you going to pay?”
In the bone-chilling night, it felt like a bucket of ice water had been dumped over him. Chen Wang’s teeth chattered uncontrollably.
“What? One million?”
“But looking at where you live, you probably cannot pay back a cent, can you?” The creditor kicked over a stack of books, spitefully grinding his footprint into the pristine pages. He narrowed his eyes at him.
His voice suddenly trailed off. “You!”
Under the dim moonlight, the trembling, handsome man was held by his arms by the subordinates. His usually stubborn eyes were beginning to redden. Even then, was he still forcing himself not to cry?
“A lowly Beta, yet you have some flavor to you.” The man suddenly leaned in with a lecherous grin. “How about you use something else to pay off this month’s debt first?”
“Chen Wang, who do you think you are?”
Hua Yunlian scoffed and slammed the car door. He wanted to see for himself what kind of garbage heap Chen Wang was living in and expose his cunning nature.
In this old, neglected neighborhood, getting streetlights required layers of approval. It was pitch black, making it impossible to see the path. Hua Yunlian had not expected there to be a place in Central City that rivaled the slums. It must have been hard for Chen Wang to find a place like this to live. He fumbled to turn on his phone’s flashlight.
The harsh white light suddenly illuminated a figure. Hua Yunlian raised an eyebrow. The person came stumbling toward him, followed by a pack of rowdy thugs shouting to catch him and beat him to death.
“This kid used a key to split the boss’s brother wide open!”
Chen Wang was also injured. Dizzy and unable to tell where he was going, he lunged at the first person he saw. He crashed headfirst into Hua Yunlian’s chest, gripping the man’s suit like a lifeline. Blood from his forehead slowly dripped into his eyes, blurring his vision.
A drop of blood from his nose slowly blossomed on Hua Yunlian’s expensive shirt. The man’s beautiful, amber-colored eyes trembled slightly. Chen Wang’s pleasant voice was now a series of agonizing gasps.
“Help, help me. Please, okay?”
