The Heartless Alpha Just Wants to Follow the Plot - Chapter 17
Jiang Xi wasn’t sure whether Su Mo knew about that incident or not, but the moment Su Mo gave her an order, she instinctively agreed.
On the way back, she kept trying to catch a glimpse of Su Mo’s expression through the rearview mirror. Unfortunately, Su Mo had already shut her eyes again, resting quietly, as if completely unaware that someone had made contact with her earlier.
Jiang Xi bit her lower lip, her expression tense. The entire ride, she struggled to figure out how to bring it up—and wondered whether Su Mo’s earlier words had been a warning meant for her.
By the time she finished hesitating, midnight had already passed. When they arrived at the apartment building, Su Mo woke up, calmly stepped out of the aircraft, and headed toward the entrance.
Just as Su Mo was about to reach the elevator, Jiang Xi finally snapped, rushed forward, and blocked her path.
Su Mo: “?”
Jiang Xi clenched her teeth, squeezed her eyes shut, and confessed everything—how the rival studio had tried to get to her, what they wanted to learn about Su Mo’s secrets, her schedule, her private matters, all of it.
Su Mo crossed her arms and leaned back against the wall, her gaze fixed on the elevator doors. The building had thirty floors; her unit was on the eighteenth. The elevator arrived quickly. Her expression stayed perfectly calm, as if Jiang Xi’s confession had absolutely nothing to do with her—only making Jiang Xi feel even more on edge.
If Su Mo exploded on her, yelled at her, cursed her out—that would at least be something. But this silence, this complete lack of visible reaction, terrified her far more.
Not knowing what Su Mo was thinking was torture. Jiang Xi’s palms grew damp; she nervously dug her nails into her own hand to steady herself.
The system stared at Jiang Xi, dumbfounded.
【Host, why is the plot wrong? Why did she tell you all that? Shouldn’t she have quietly agreed and then ruthlessly backstabbed you later?】
Su Mo lifted an eyebrow, smug.
【Maybe your host is just too charming. Even cannon-fodder characters who originally wanted to harm me end up clinging to my thigh instead.】
System: 【”…”】
Too narcissistic.
Still, Su Mo let out a small breath of relief. She didn’t come to this world just to get beaten into the ground—she still planned to enjoy life in her rich, carefree identity. Fortunately, she had looked deeper into Jiang Xi’s background and realized that although the girl was destined to be a disposable pawn in the original story, she was also a timid one.
Her only act of rebellion in the original plot had been to leak videos of the former Su Mo’s misdeeds—bullying assistants, withholding wages, forcing them to work like slaves, even pocketing bonuses that weren’t hers. The leak had completely destroyed Su Mo’s already terrible reputation. The Su family became a laughingstock, and everyone who disliked Su Mo piled on with fabricated accusations.
“Ding!”
The elevator arrived. Su Mo glanced inside—it was empty—then stepped in. “Come on.”
Jiang Xi lowered her head and followed obediently. The elevator ascended slowly. She kept sneaking anxious looks at Su Mo, but Su Mo never spoke. Even when they reached the eighteenth floor, she still hadn’t said a word.
By the time they stepped out of the elevator, Jiang Xi felt chilled to the bone from stress alone. A gust of night air hit her, and she nearly burst into tears.
“I’m sorry—I’m really sorry—I know I was wrong! Su-jie, I swear I didn’t betray you! I didn’t tell them anything!”
Su Mo replied lightly, “Mm.”
Jiang Xi looked up, eyes shining with hope. “You believe me?”
Su Mu said, “If I didn’t, you wouldn’t still be by my side.”
Tears slipped from the corners of Jiang Xi’s eyes. She truly had been terrified Su Mo would stop trusting her.
Su Mo unlocked her apartment and tapped a few commands into her light-brain. Then she tilted her chin at Jiang Xi. “Go in.”
Jiang Xi wiped her hands nervously and stepped inside.
Su Mo added, “You don’t need to be afraid. I’m not unreasonable.”
After thinking for a moment, she continued, “Stay here and wait. Pu Ying will be coming later. Say what you need to say to her. Don’t hide anything—her temper isn’t great.”
Jiang Xi: “…”
Someone with a bad temper, telling her someone else has a bad temper.
She tested the waters. “What about you? Aren’t you coming in?”
Su Mo said, “I have something to take care of.”
With that, she opened the door to the neighboring apartment and walked inside.
Jiang Xi was only a beta. She couldn’t smell pheromones. But seeing how quickly Su Mo moved, she guessed something important must be happening inside. She obediently stayed put, not daring to follow.
Su Mo pushed open the bedroom door. The pheromone saturation inside was overwhelming—nearly enough to make her lose control. Thankfully, after spending so much time around Qiu Fu lately, she had become familiar with her scent.
Her own self-control had also improved immensely, keeping her from slipping.
Still.
Su Mo frowned and released her own pheromones to soothe Qiu Fu, easing her discomfort.
“It’s been two months. The drug’s effects still haven’t worn off?”
What kind of drug lasted this long?
“I don’t know,” Qiu Fu murmured.
Feeling Su Mo’s familiar milk-candy scent, she relaxed slightly. Her entire body was drenched. For the past two months, she had been forced into violent episodes every three days. She had no idea where that investor had obtained such a drug, but she wanted nothing more than to tear him apart.
She had never felt so humiliated, so powerless.
Su Mo said, “This isn’t sustainable. You need to go to a hospital.”
Two months—any normal person would have metabolized it by now. Instead, Qiu Fu’s symptoms were getting worse. They couldn’t go on like this.
Qiu Fu shook her head. “If he dared use that drug on me, then he knows exactly what it does. I bet he’s already stationed people at every district hospital, just waiting for me to walk into their trap so he can take revenge.”
She would rather die enduring this than let them shame her like that.
The gland at the nape of her neck throbbed with heat. It had been worsening by the day, and she was nearing her limit.
Su Mo sighed. “If I’m with you, it won’t matter who he sends. Why make yourself suffer like this?”
Qiu Fu understood perfectly. Once Su Mo appeared, the enemy would back off just like before. But her current public persona—and all the rumors—emphasized that she had nothing to do with Su Mo. If news leaked that their relationship was close, it would hurt them both.
“I know. If I truly can’t take it anymore, I’ll go.”
“Fine,” Su Mo said helplessly. “I can’t beat your stubbornness.”
She lifted Qiu Fu’s face in her hands, sighed softly, and lowered her head to kiss her.
Even like this, Qiu Fu insisted on holding out. Su Mo truly didn’t understand.
Maybe this was what made her a protagonist—unyielding determination. Su Mo, personally, could never manage it.
After kissing her for a while, she felt Qiu Fu’s temperature slowly drop. Only then did she pull back. The kiss had been deep, and a thin thread of warmth stretched between them as they parted.
This left Su Mo feeling rather embarrassed. She was still a clueless novice—this was the first time she had ever taken the initiative to kiss someone, and it had been that enthusiastic.
Even if it was for the sake of saving someone, she couldn’t help thinking she definitely had at least a little bit of seeing-beauty-and-acting-on-impulse going on.
“Ahem, I should go.”
Su Mo practically fled the scene.
Qiu Fu watched her hurriedly retreating back. She reached up to touch her lips, still slightly swollen from the kiss, a strange flicker passing through her eyes.
There was a peculiar feeling.
As if a feather had lightly brushed across the bottom of her heart—itchy, tingly, and somehow a little numbing.
“How odd, why do I feel a faint sense of reluctance for her to leave?”
Qiu Fu pressed a hand to her left chest. Her heartbeat was noticeably stronger.
Su Mo pushed open the door, carrying with her the lingering scent of Milan blossoms as she stepped back into the apartment. Pu Ying was already there. The moment she caught the distinct scent of another Omega clinging to Su Mo, her fingers twitched imperceptibly.
Jiang Xi quickly got to her feet when she saw Su Mo. “Jie, you’re back. Sister Pu has been here for a bit already. I’ve told her about the person who contacted me and all the details. She said we’d discuss it together once you returned.”
Pu Ying’s expression was colder than usual. When Su Mo’s gaze shifted toward her, she only offered a perfunctory, almost indiscernible nod—so slight Su Mo would have missed it if she hadn’t been staring directly at her.
Su Mo: “…”
Why does it feel like Pu Ying is angry?
【System, what’s going on with Pu Ying today? Why does it feel like she doesn’t want to talk to me?】
The system stalled, unsure how to answer.
【Host, I don’t know either! I’m just a system!】
Su Mo: “…”
【Right, you don’t understand emotions.】
Under the system’s aggrieved silence, she walked over and sat on the sofa opposite Pu Ying. “Let’s begin, then.”
Pu Ying’s gaze swept over Su Mo’s lips—slightly more flushed and swollen than usual. Her eyes flickered. “Go ahead.”
Jiang Xi: “……”
She was confused. Go ahead and say what? Hadn’t she already explained everything earlier?
Su Mo: “…”
Why is no one talking?
Seeing that Pu Ying had no intention of opening her mouth, Su Mo turned to Jiang Xi. “You go first. I didn’t catch everything clearly earlier. Repeat the details—the message they sent and what they’re asking for.”
Jiang Xi hurried to recount everything, sneaking wary glances at Pu Ying throughout, terrified she’d be accused of contradicting her earlier version. Her scalp tingled from the anxiety.
After listening, Su Mo leaned sideways against the sofa, propping her chin with one hand as she nodded. “Mm. Pu Ying, what do you think?”
Pu Ying said coolly, “I have no opinion.”
Su Mo: “…”
Then why did you say we’d discuss it when I got back?
What exactly are we discussing if you have no opinion?
She felt she was being played with.
She reminded her, “I think you probably should have an opinion.”
Pu Ying let out a cold, mocking laugh, straightening as she looked down at her. “I don’t have one. What, are you going to force my brain to think?”
Su Mo: “……”
She felt like she’d had more speechless moments today than in any other day of her life.
“Then should I analyze the situation?”
Pu Ying sneered. “With your brain, what could you possibly analyze?”
Su Mo: “……”
Alright. She could confirm it now—Pu Ying was definitely angry. And targeting her on purpose.
Su Mo spread her hands and shrugged. “In that case, let’s adjourn. Nothing left to talk about.”
Pu Ying: “……”
Now she was the one rendered speechless.
Was this woman really this unconcerned about her own life?
