The Green Tea Omega Has Turned Bad - Chapter 4
Yan Xia walked into the classroom just five minutes before the school bell rang. The room was a cacophony of noise.
She returned to her seat and sat down quietly.
Jiang He was whispering with the people in the back row, not even sparing Yan Xia a glance. They were huddled together, giggling and chirping about goodness-knows-what.
Yan Xia cast a brief glance around her: students were eating snacks at their desks, others were blatantly playing on their phones, and a few in the back were shouting and chatting loudly… it was a chaotic mess, and the noise was irritating.
She pulled out the textbooks she would need for the upcoming lesson from her desk drawer, thinking to herself: With this kind of class atmosphere, is it actually possible to learn anything?
Hearing her thoughts, the System popped up to offer a prompt: “If the Host is dissatisfied with the current class, you can transfer to another class by improving your grades.”
Yan Xia slapped her forehead, delighted: “That’s right! I can transfer classes!”
The Hucheng No. 1 High School they attended had always maintained a good college entrance rate. It was an established school in the city with strong teaching staff and a prestigious reputation.
In recent years, to motivate students, several new regulations had been added. One of these was that following every major examination, classes would be rearranged based on exam rankings.
She had almost forgotten this setting in the book. It was largely because the original female lead’s grades were so poor that she stayed in Class F until graduation, so this setting was never utilized.
Yan Xia rested her chin on her hand, lost in thought: “Since Shang Wandong is in Class A, if I test into Class A as well, wouldn’t it be easier to ‘conquer’ her?”
“But you need to be in the top fifty of the grade to qualify for Class A,” the System pointed out. “The female lead has always been a poor student. If you suddenly score that high, won’t it be too abrupt?”
Yan Xia nodded: “You have a point.”
If her grades shot up too quickly, it would easily arouse suspicion from others, and she might even be accused of cheating.
Amidst her thoughts, a middle-aged man walked through the door. He seemed accustomed to the chaos in the classroom as he rolled up his sleeves and tapped the blackboard forcefully.
He shouted loudly, “Everyone, be quiet!”
Droopy eyes, nasolabial folds, puffy eyelids… Yan Xia recognized these features. This should be their homeroom teacher.
This homeroom teacher taught Chinese and was surnamed Liu. He had an aging, bitter face, and at forty-odd years old, he was already showing signs of a “Mediterranean” balding pattern.
He slowly set down his lesson plans, cleared his throat, and said loudly, “The midterm exams are in one week. Everyone, focus and prepare well!”
The noise died down, replaced by a wave of sighs and groans.
“Another exam? I feel like we just had one.”
“Anyway, no matter how we test, we’ll just be crushed by the other classes…”
“You are all young people in your teens, at a time when you should have drive and vitality. How can you give up so easily?” Mr. Liu expressed his dissatisfaction upon hearing this. “For this exam, I hope certain students will take a more serious attitude. Answer the questions properly and don’t always think about handing in blank papers and dragging the class down!”
Having said that, he gave Yan Xia a meaningful look, only to see her appearing completely spaced out, staring straight ahead as if she hadn’t heard a word.
This was a blatant provocation!
The homeroom teacher flew into a rage: “Yan Xia, stand up!”
Yan Xia didn’t react; she sat there blankly, her lips moving as if she were saying something.
Jiang He gloated for a moment before nudging Yan Xia’s arm and calling out, “The teacher is calling you!”
Yan Xia snapped back to reality and saw the “Mediterranean” head on the podium looking at her gloomily: “What, do I have to personally invite you to stand up?!”
Yan Xia: “…” How did I get caught just while talking to the System for a moment?
She obediently stood up and lowered her head.
Mr. Liu sneered: “What were you thinking about just now to be so distracted? I suppose this is how you are during every class?”
The fact that Yan Xia was at the bottom of the rankings was deeply ingrained in everyone’s minds. Being mocked by teachers of various subjects had become a common occurrence, even becoming one of the three great jokes of Class F the Mediterranean, Zhang Ying crying, and Yan Xia being scolded.
Everyone else was eagerly waiting to watch the fun.
Yan Xia pushed up her glasses and answered honestly: “I was thinking about what score I should get on the midterms.”
Mr. Liu: ?
You’ll be lucky if you don’t turn in a blank paper!
He asked back: “Are you that capable? Why don’t you try ranking in the top ten for me?”
His intention was sarcasm, but he didn’t expect Yan Xia to look timid while her words were incredibly arrogant: “That’s not impossible.”
The room immediately erupted in laughter. Even Mr. Liu laughed out of extreme anger, his small eyes narrowing into slits: “Fine, you certainly have a big mouth!”
“Everyone heard that; Yan Xia said she can get into the top ten this time!” He repeated it loudly to the crowd as if he had heard something novel, then turned to look at the innocent-looking Yan Xia: “What if you don’t make it?”
Yan Xia: “Then whatever you say goes.”
“Good!” Mr. Liu laughed loudly and took the lead in clapping. “Everyone, learn from Yan Xia. Although she has no actual ability, she has the grand ambition to indulge in daydreams!”
He completely disbelieved Yan Xia’s “nonsense.” A poor student who usually ranked last getting into the top ten? In her dreams!
The others followed suit, clapping haphazardly, and suddenly everyone was filled with anticipation for the midterm exams. Amidst the thunderous applause, Yan Xia calmly sat down.
“Ding-dong! Positive points +50.”
System: “Dear Host, isn’t this a bit too flashy?”
“Not at all. Doesn’t this have that ‘cool web novel’ vibe?” Yan Xia retorted. “I hadn’t even decided which rank to get, and he decided it for me. This is the ‘suppress before praising’ trope slapping the faces of the cannon fodder. When everyone realizes the female lead was hiding her brilliance, they’ll realize the joke was on them tsk tsk, classic web novel style!”
“Uh, that ideal is quite full,” the System said, “but have you considered what happens if you don’t make the top ten?”
Yan Xia paused: “I haven’t thought about that.”
System: Damn it, of course you haven’t!!!
Seeing the System worrying for her, Yan Xia remained as steady as a mountain and spent the entire Chinese class memorizing classical prose and poetry.
In her previous life, she had attended a well-known 985 university in the capital. That school had a rigorous academic atmosphere, busy coursework, and terrifying professors especially in the science major she was admitted to, which could be described as “hell mode.” After four years, she had been drained by various mathematical and physical knowledge; looking at high school math, physics, and chemistry now was like reading a children’s storybook.
However, liberal arts subjects were harder to recover. After four years, she had completely forgotten the things she had memorized in high school. The midterm exam covered half a book’s worth of texts; she would need to spend some time memorizing them.
As soon as the bell rang, the “Mediterranean” dismissed the class right on time.
Yan Xia noticed that Class F rarely had classes run over, likely because the teachers were in a state of semi-giving up.
She followed the flow of people out of the classroom.
Yan Xia’s current public persona was an Omega, so she could only go to the Omega restroom around the corner. Fortunately, the toilets here were built as individual cubicles, so she wouldn’t be easily discovered.
A few rustling footsteps came from behind her, seemingly following her in.
After Yan Xia finished her business, she grabbed the handle of the cubicle door and pushed
It didn’t budge.
Suppressed giggles and the sound of people shoving each other came from outside the door.
Yan Xia realized what was happening and was utterly speechless Such an old-fashioned trope. Is the water-splashing next?
She remembered that the female lead in the original book had been bullied like this. She was probably following the plot right now. As expected of a dog-blood novel from seven or eight years ago.
Outside the door, one of the girls stood on tiptoe on a chair, holding a plastic bucket filled with dirty water.
The others below urged her: “Hurry up!”
“Someone will come in soon!”
The girl looked hesitant.
“Useless! If you’re not going to do it, get down!” someone cursed from below.
Hearing this, the girl grit her teeth, lifted the heavy red bucket shakily, and poured it down over the door
Splash! The dirty water flooded into the cubicle, soaking the floor.
The others looked refreshed. They held their breath and listened for a moment, then wondered: “Why isn’t there any sound?”
“Who cares? Class is about to start.” One of them snickered. “Let her stay there and cry by herself.”
The group released their hold on the door and walked out of the restroom giggling.
Only after the footsteps had completely faded did the cubicle door push open.
Yan Xia walked out carrying a large umbrella and twirled the handle expressionlessly.
She said angrily: “Fifty points for a single umbrella? You profiteer!”
The System corrected her: “Host, this is no ordinary umbrella.”
Yan Xia was suspicious: “Is that so? Does it have some special function?”
“It’s not just an umbrella,” the System paused. “It’s also a parasol!”
Yan Xia: ” Just shut up.”
The System quickly added: “Wait, I’m not finished. Not only can it block ultraviolet rays, but it can also block infrared rays. Most importantly, its material is tough and difficult to damage with ordinary knives.”
Yan Xia looked at the black umbrella in her hand, and the feeling of being cheated subsided slightly: “It seems somewhat useful. Store it for me first.”
She walked forward a few steps, saw the plastic bucket by her feet, and stopped.
The bucket was probably old and was filthy; it had been tossed aside carelessly after the water was poured, and its metal handle was rusted.
Yan Xia made a mental note and returned to class.
When she appeared at the door completely intact and clean, the faces of several girls changed instantly.
Jiang He came over to size her up and asked, “Yan Xia, why did you take so long?”
Yan Xia sat down and shook her head: “Something happened.” She looked down at Jiang He and suddenly asked, “Why are your fingers red?”
Jiang He froze for a moment, then curled her fingertips inward unnaturally: “I don’t know, I might have bumped into something.”
Yan Xia nodded calmly, retracted her gaze, and said nothing more.
After spending the afternoon memorizing the Chinese textbook, she finally made it to the end of the school day. She, Shang Wandong, and Yan Siqiu took the car back to the villa.
Yan Siqiu didn’t make another scene, probably realizing that no one would help her no matter what happened; her expression was one of complete despair.
However, after finishing dinner, she put on a form-fitting nightgown, let her black hair drape down, held a test paper, and stopped in front of Shang Wandong’s room.
Yan Xia, who was about to head to the kitchen to snag a bottle of hot milk, stopped in her tracks and hid behind a door to observe secretly.
Yan Siqiu didn’t notice Yan Xia. She straightened her hair, intentionally revealing her slender and sexy collarbones, struck a very pure pose, and knocked on the door.
The door opened quickly. Shang Wandong: “Is something the matter?”
Yan Siqiu widened her beautiful eyes, putting on a pitiful expression: “Sister Wandong, I have a problem I don’t understand. Can I come in and ask you?”
Shang Wandong didn’t refuse but simply asked, “Which one?”
Seeing an opportunity, Yan Siqiu was overjoyed and said sweetly, “Let’s go inside and talk; it’s not convenient here.”
Shang Wandong did not agree, firmly blocking the doorway: “No need. Just say it here.”
Yan Siqiu’s expression turned to disappointment. She looked past Shang Wandong into the room, unwilling to give up: “But…”
Shang Wandong took the test paper directly from her hand and scanned it briefly: “Which one?”
Yan Siqiu was forced to point to a random question reluctantly. Shang Wandong stood at the door and explained the detailed logic, then asked, “Do you understand?”
Yan Siqiu pretended to be dazed: “I don’t. Please explain it a few more times.”
Shang Wandong stared at her and suddenly said, “This is a basic question. If you don’t understand it after hearing it once, there might be a significant problem with this upcoming exam.”
Yan Siqiu froze. Her heart stirred, and she grabbed Shang Wandong’s arm, shaking it and taking the opportunity to act spoiled: “I really don’t quite get it. I wonder if Sister Wandong has time to give me some tutoring?”
Shang Wandong pulled her hand back, utterly cold: “No.”
Yan Xia nearly collapsed upon hearing this, and Yan Siqiu was momentarily speechless.
Shang Wandong added: “However, I will tell Aunt Zhao and have her hire a tutor for you.”
Telling Zhao Daiman? How could that be allowed? Yan Siqiu’s face changed several times before she finally forced a smile: “N-no need, Sister Wandong. I just thought about it carefully and I understand now.”
Hearing this, Shang Wandong looked relieved: “Congratulations.”
Yan Siqiu: Is it my imagination? Is she mocking my intelligence?
She had nothing left to say: “Then I’ll leave first.”
Shang Wandong replied: “Fine. Goodnight.” With that, she closed the door with lightning speed.
Having been shut out three times in one day, Yan Siqiu’s face was as black as a pot. She turned and left, her footsteps thumping loudly on the floor.
Witnessing the entire process, Yan Xia almost burst out laughing.
However, she was inspired by Yan Siqiu’s approach Yan Xia was also a genuine poor student. If she used this point to get close to the top student Shang Wandong, would it be effective?
After a moment of reflection, she also resolutely knocked on Shang Wandong’s door.
The door opened quickly. Shang Wandong looked down, and she didn’t seem surprised to see her.
She always maintained an expressionless face regardless of who she looked at, though Yan Xia couldn’t tell if it was because of the bright desk lamp behind her, but a layer of warmth was reflected in those dark eyes.
“Something the matter?”
Yan Xia nodded: “Are you free? I want to ask you a few questions.”
“I am.” Shang Wandong looked at her. “Which ones?”
Yan Xia unfolded the blank test paper in her hand: “All of them.”
The air went silent for a second.
Yan Xia looked at her with hope and added: “I’m not joking. You know my grades are very poor.”
“I know.” Shang Wandong nodded and stepped aside. “Come in and ask.”
Yan Xia froze, her heart even racing a bit.
No way? Is it this easy?!
“C-can I come in?” She suppressed her excitement and asked cautiously, “It won’t offend you?”
“No,” Shang Wandong’s voice was calm. “But if you want to stand at the door and talk, that would naturally be best. It’s just that it will be very tiring, because there are too many questions.”
Yan Xia’s heartbeat calmed instantly Damn it, as expected of you.
