The Great General and the Eldest Princess - Chapter 7
Di Shengyue had initially thought that Xiao Yinxue would forget about combing her hair into an updo by evening.
Unexpectedly, as they were getting ready for bed, Xiao Yinxue still remembered the morning’s request clearly.
Xiao Yinxue forcefully pressed Di Shengyue down in front of the dressing mirror.
“Princess, for someone like me, a hairstyle like that really won’t look good,” Di Shengyue said helplessly.
“Hmph. Whether it looks good or not is for this Princess to decide,” Xiao Yinxue retorted.
Xiao Yinxue pulled off the hair tie on Di Shengyue’s head with one hand, and Di Shengyue’s dark, black hair cascaded over her shoulders.
Xiao Yinxue stroked Di Shengyue’s hair, feeling how smooth and soft it was, like black satin.
Looking at Di Shengyue in the mirror, she noticed that with her hair down, Di Shengyue lost some of her usual heroic spirit and gained a touch of tenderness. Coupled with her already beautiful features, it was breathtakingly heart-stirring.
Xiao Yinxue realized she had been staring blankly for quite a while. She quickly averted her gaze and shifted her attention to Di Shengyue’s hair.
“Shengyue, your hair is truly beautiful,” Xiao Yinxue said, touching her smooth locks. “It must look wonderful styled into an updo.”
Xiao Yinxue’s fair fingers picked up a strand of Di Shengyue’s black hair and began braiding it carefully.
Through the bronze mirror in front of her, Di Shengyue could clearly see the serious expression on Xiao Yinxue’s face as she lowered her eyes.
Seemingly unfamiliar with this type of braid, Xiao Yinxue spent a long time just weaving this one strand of hair.
“It didn’t look this hard when I watched Youtao braid it before,” Xiao Yinxue mumbled, frowning slightly as she looked at the section she had just braided. “Why does this one part always come out wrong?”
“Princess, why don’t you…” Di Shengyue turned her head, intending to say something.
Her smooth, dark hair slipped out of Xiao Yinxue’s fingers with her movement, and the newly braided section instantly came undone.
Xiao Yinxue’s willow-like eyebrows narrowed fiercely, and she scolded Di Shengyue angrily, “Don’t move! This Princess spent so long braiding that!”
Seeing her expression, Di Shengyue knew that if there wasn’t some result tonight, Xiao Yinxue wouldn’t give up.
She could only sigh and turn her head back to face the bronze mirror, letting Xiao Yinxue do as she pleased.
Xiao Yinxue tried a few more times and finally achieved a style that satisfied her.
The corners of her eyes curved slightly, revealing a look of contentment.
Strand by strand, Xiao Yinxue braided the hair into two sections, then gathered both sections together, twisting them into a knot at the crown of her head.
The delicate Glazed Suspended Phoenix Hairpin was carefully inserted into the center of the updo.
Di Shengyue looked at the gentle, graceful woman in the bronze mirror and touched her cheek, momentarily stunned.
What woman doesn’t love beauty?
She remembered faintly that when she was very young, her mother seemed to have styled her hair like this. Since her mother’s passing, no one had done an updo for her again.
After she became a general, she had completely forgotten that she was a woman.
“Turn around quickly and let me see,” Xiao Yinxue’s voice interrupted Di Shengyue’s thoughts.
Di Shengyue turned her head and looked up at Xiao Yinxue.
Xiao Yinxue stared at Di Shengyue and suddenly froze.
She knew Di Shengyue was good-looking, but she never realized she was this beautiful.
With the heroic edge stripped away, she was so exquisitely graceful and dignified.
Her hair was elegantly pinned up, and the Glazed Suspended Phoenix Hairpin added a touch of noble flair.
Her eyebrows were long and slender, and her bright eyes sparkled like the stars.
The two wisps of hair slightly drooping by her temples added a softness to her entire face.
“Does it look good?” Di Shengyue curved her lips and asked.
Her smile was like a blossoming flower, bright and captivating.
Thump, thump… Thump, thump…
Looking at her face, Xiao Yinxue felt her heart rate accelerating rapidly.
“Princess?” Di Shengyue called out a few times, sensing her distraction.
Xiao Yinxue finally snapped back to attention.
Di Shengyue chuckled, “Princess, were you perhaps staring at me in a daze just now?”
“Who was staring at you in a daze!” Xiao Yinxue’s face immediately flushed crimson at having her secret exposed. She declared, “There are plenty of women more beautiful than you in the palace.”
“Are you saying you think I’m beautiful, then?” Di Shengyue laughed softly, her eyes growing brighter.
“It’s the Lily Bun that’s beautiful,” Xiao Yinxue insisted stubbornly. “You… you’re just so-so.”
“That’s still thanks to the Princess’s skillful hands, able to braid such a lovely style,” Di Shengyue said. She stood up from the chair and moved closer to Xiao Yinxue.
“Princess, please look closely again. Is it really not good-looking?”
They were very close now. Di Shengyue’s delicate features were clearly reflected in Xiao Yinxue’s eyes. Xiao Yinxue could even feel the warmth of Di Shengyue’s breath.
Xiao Yinxue’s breathing immediately became erratic. She subconsciously took a step back.
She hadn’t realized there was a step leading up to the bed behind her. Her foot caught on it, and her entire body tumbled backward uncontrollably.
Xiao Yinxue cried out in surprise.
Di Shengyue reacted quickly, hooking an arm around Xiao Yinxue’s slender waist.
Perhaps the force of the Princess’s fall was too great, but Di Shengyue couldn’t keep her footing either. The two of them collapsed onto the bed together.
Di Shengyue landed on top of Xiao Yinxue, the posture of their embrace from moments ago now holding her tightly pressed against Xiao Yinxue.
Xiao Yinxue was resting on Di Shengyue’s chest, her cheek practically buried in her cleavage.
Feeling the rise and fall of that area, Xiao Yinxue’s face went completely red.
Di Shengyue’s figure was… quite nice.
“Princess, your heart is beating so fast,” Di Shengyue’s voice, laced with a light laugh, came from beside Xiao Yinxue’s ear.
“I… I was startled just now,” Xiao Yinxue’s face was beyond red. She was both shy and a little annoyed as she lightly hit Di Shengyue’s shoulder. “You… you get up now.”
This posture was far too ambiguous, so intimate it made her heart race uncontrollably!
“That might be a little difficult,” Di Shengyue chuckled softly. “It seems I twisted my ankle just now, and I won’t be able to get up right away.”
Xiao Yinxue’s hair had come undone, her dark locks spread out on the bed, adding to her allure.
“You’re a general! How can you be so delicate?” Knowing Di Shengyue was doing this on purpose, Xiao Yinxue fiercely pinched the soft flesh around Di Shengyue’s waist. “Stop playing tricks on this Princess.”
“Ow, Princess, have mercy,” Di Shengyue begged lightly a few times, but still got up, offering a hand to pull Xiao Yinxue up.
“It’s getting late, I need to go rest,” Xiao Yinxue glanced at the night sky outside and said, “Let go of my hand quickly!”
“It’s late and the dew is heavy outside. Princess, you aren’t in good health; I would be heartbroken if you caught a chill,” Di Shengyue said. “Since it’s late anyway, why doesn’t the Princess rest here?”
“Who… who wants to sleep with you!” Xiao Yinxue snapped angrily. After a moment, she added, “Your bed board is too hard; this Princess isn’t used to sleeping on it.”
“Then, perhaps the Princess could exchange it for a softer one for me?” Di Shengyue raised an eyebrow, looking at Xiao Yinxue, her eyes full of mirth. “Or maybe just move the Princess’s bed over here.”
“Dream on!” Xiao Yinxue scoffed lightly, pulled her hand away, and quickly left Di Shengyue’s room, clutching her increasingly burning cheeks.
