The Fragile Supporting Lady Is Too Clingy - Chapter 11
When Li Shuyu lay down on the bed, the still-ailing girl was already drowsy and didn’t notice that the other had slipped directly under her blanket, sleeping on the outer side.
It wasn’t until the next morning, when daylight streamed in, that she groggily awoke from her hazy slumber. Turning over, she accidentally brushed against a warm body and was instantly startled. Her eyes flew open in shock as she saw the woman sitting beside her, flipping through a book.
Li Shuyu noticed the person beside her waking up and looked down, meeting her just-awakened eyes. Those eyes were naturally misty, dewy, and incredibly beautiful.
She smiled softly and asked with concern, “You’re awake? Would you like something to eat?”
Li Qiuyue’s heart tightened as she finally recalled the events of the previous day.
No wonder she had slept so well last night, she was in Li Shuyu’s room, sleeping on her bed.
The favored legitimate daughter naturally had an extremely soft and comfortable bed. The two of them had even shared the same blanket, yet she hadn’t noticed.
The young girl blinked and sat up, her voice hoarse from sleep as she called out, “Third Sister.”
“Mhm, shall I have someone bring breakfast?”
She spoke as if coaxing a child now, the supporting female lead was obedient and docile, not at all like the obsessive and dark-hearted character from the novel.
Li Qiuyue also detected the coaxing tone in her words, her cheeks flushing slightly as she turned her head away and answered softly, “Okay.”
She still felt somewhat bewildered. Why had Li Shuyu suddenly become so kind to her, coaxing her and helping her at every turn?
As a noble young lady, last night must have been the first time she had ever wiped someone else’s body.
Could it truly be that falling ill once had led her to repent?
Li Qiuyue couldn’t figure it out and temporarily suppressed her doubts. If this was an act, she believed Li Shuyu wouldn’t be able to keep it up for long.
Not only was the bed in Fuguang Courtyard comfortable to sleep in, but the food was also delicious and varied. Having been ill, Li Qiuyue had slept longer and was immediately hungry upon seeing the dishes.
“Have a bowl of lotus seed porridge first to settle your stomach.”
Li Shuyu had adapted well to her current life, but she wasn’t quite used to having maids serve her food during meals it always felt awkward and uncomfortable, so she had changed the rules and served herself.
A bowl of clear lotus seed porridge was placed in front of Li Qiuyue. She lowered her gaze and stared at it for a moment before nodding and beginning to eat.
The woman ate extremely slowly. By the time Li Shuyu was half-full, she hadn’t even finished her bowl of porridge.
A golden egg roll was placed before Li Qiuyue.
The young girl paused in her eating. This time, she didn’t look up or ask any questions but obediently picked up the egg roll and began eating it in small bites.
“Do you prefer sweet or savory food?”
Li Shuyu asked while picking up a piece of peppery lamb pancake to eat.
Li Qiuyue didn’t understand the intention behind the question. In her entire life, no one had ever asked about her preferences before, she had simply eaten whatever was available.
A tiny crack slowly formed in her heart, though whether it was to let in air or to melt away, she didn’t know.
She buried her head even lower and answered meekly, “I prefer sweet food.”
Li Shuyu understood. young girls generally liked sweet things, especially since the supporting female lead had likely rarely had the chance to eat sweets before. Now, she must have developed an even stronger preference for them.
She placed a piece of honey-glazed tofu in front of her. “If you like it, eat more. There’s plenty of sweet food today.”
Li Qiuyue’s eyes weren’t as dull and lightless as described in the novel. Instead, they were very bright, sparkling as they fixed on the food in her bowl.
Like a little puppy that had just been rewarded so adorable.
Li Shuyu found the female supporting character adorable, a stark contrast to how much she had despised her while reading the novel.
She had loathed her for being shameless, malicious, and scheming, and even more for being a toad lusting after swan’s flesh, always targeting the female lead to win the male lead’s favor, making her a universally hated figure among readers.
The novel rarely described her appearance, so as the story progressed, Li Shuyu had completely forgotten that Li Qiuyue was breathtakingly beautiful hardly a toad.
Her only shortcoming was her slightly inferior status.
But so what if her status was lower? She was stunningly beautiful!
And so well-behaved!
Unconsciously, Li Shuyu’s heart began to shift, leaning slightly toward the female supporting character.
The way the girl obediently lowered her head to eat was particularly captivating, especially since she wasn’t picky, she ate whatever was given to her.
“Would you like some meat? You’re too thin.”
Like most characters who endured endless suffering in novels, the female supporting character was emaciated, with little flesh on her bones and a delicate, pointed face that evoked pity.
“Okay.”
She always agreed, always listened to Li Shuyu.
A bowl of sliced meat soup was placed before her, along with the earlier porridge and some snacks it was a bit too much.
Li Qiuyue slowly finished the porridge before realizing that just one bowl had already filled her stomach, leaving no room for anything else.
But… if she didn’t eat it, it would go to waste. Such good food was something she rarely had the chance to enjoy, she couldn’t bear to waste it.
Li Qiuyue suddenly felt at a loss.
Li Shuyu sat nearby, waiting for her while idly nibbling on snacks.
The girl’s timid gaze caught her attention.
She looked over and asked softly, “What’s wrong?” Her voice was so gentle it hardly seemed directed at her.
Could falling ill really change someone’s temperament so much?
Li Qiuyue didn’t understand. Clutching her spoon, she felt nervous but didn’t know how to express it.
The two weren’t yet very familiar, and no matter how clever Li Shuyu was, she couldn’t possibly guess what was on her mind.
Especially since… she wasn’t very bright.
“Ahem, just say whatever’s on your mind. Don’t hold back. I’ve already told you, I owe you an apology, and now I just want to make up for my past self a little. With me, you can speak freely.”
Her narrow phoenix eyes gazed at Li Qiuyue with utmost sincerity, and before she knew it, the girl found herself believing her. Lowering her eyes to the brimming bowl of lamb soup, she spoke hesitantly, her voice tinged with distress and a hint of testing the waters, “ I can’t eat anymore.”
Li Shuyu followed her gaze ah, she couldn’t finish the soup.
She casually took the bowl and began sipping it leisurely. “It’s fine. Rest a bit after eating. I’ll drink it.”
Only then did the girl seem a little happier, the corners of her lips curling into a faint smile.
The sight of a peerless beauty smiling instantly left Li Shuyu utterly dazzled.
Her eyes gleamed brightly as she stared shamelessly.
Her undisguised admiration was quickly noticed.
Almost instantly, Li Qiuyue’s lips pressed into a straight line again. She lowered her head, refusing to look at her or smile for her anymore.
Li Shuyu inwardly lamented the loss but said nothing, obediently eating the meat and finishing the soup. After downing the bowl of lamb broth, she felt uncomfortably warm. But when she asked the maid, she was told that since she was still recovering, no ice basin could be placed in the room.
Life without air conditioning really was unbearable.
She sprawled on the soft couch, musing.
Oh, and smartphones too.
During these days, she had no phone, no entertainment, and was too ill to go outside. All she could do was practice calligraphy and read ancient storybooks.
She had seen the original owner’s handwriting, it was a complete mess. But since she had never practiced brush calligraphy before, her own writing wasn’t much better.
If life hadn’t been so unbearably dull, she wouldn’t have even thought of passing the time by practicing calligraphy.
After all, the original owner was the emperor’s daughter. had no one ever taught her to write properly?
Her handwriting was like a dog’s scrawl, and the study was filled with nothing but frivolous storybooks, not a single serious text in sight.
Well, whatever. It wasn’t like she could go back anyway. Might as well learn a little more. In fact, she should be grateful that the original owner was the emperor’s daughter. In this dynasty where imperial power reigned supreme, the privileges were beyond compare.
After lounging around for a bit, Li Shuyu sat up and instinctively looked for the villainess. She saw Li Qiuyue leaning against the headboard, lost in thought, though it was unclear what she was pondering.
Unable to resist, she swooped in to make her presence known, startling the other girl.
Then she burst out laughing. “Second Sister, you’re so timid! I barely even scared you.”
Li Qiuyue’s lips twitched. Part of her didn’t want to indulge this mischievous behavior, but she was also afraid of provoking her temper. After a moment, she lowered her head and replied softly, gently, “I’ve always been timid. Why must Third Sister frighten me?”
The gentler she was, the more it stirred the urge to tease her. Li Shuyu’s fingers itched with the temptation, but considering they weren’t yet close, she held back. Clearing her throat, she magically produced a storybook from nowhere and offered it.
“Second Sister, you’re not doing anything, aren’t you bored? Why not read this with me?”
Li Qiuyue’s gaze slowly fell upon the book’s title: The Drunken Princess’s Mischief. At a glance, it was clearly not a proper book.
