The Film Empress White Moonlight Wants To Be A Salted Fish - Chapter 1
“Lu Yiran!”
“What were you all doing! That was Wen Shiyan, what if she got hurt!”
“Quick! Call an ambulance!”
“Lu Yiran? Wake up… don’t sleep…”
In a coma, Lu Yiran vaguely heard many different voices. After waking up, she lay blankly on the hospital bed, looking at the pure white ceiling. Seeing the silent Lu Yiran, Chen Ziyun worriedly touched her hand.
“Chen Ziyun, I don’t want to like her anymore.”
Chen Ziyun was stunned, then understood who Lu Yiran meant by “her.”
Chen Ziyun soothingly patted Lu Yiran’s hand and softly said, “We won’t like her anymore. Someone as outstanding as Yiran, can’t she find someone better than her?”
Lu Yiran didn’t speak. Seeing this, Chen Ziyun got up and went out to call her mothers to explain the situation.
After Chen Ziyun left, Lu Yiran laughed self-deprecatingly, tears slowly flowing from the corners of her eyes.
So, she had always been a supporting character. A mere tool supporting character who was set to like Wen Shiyan and eventually pay the price…
Lu Yiran looked at her bandaged arm. What was her liking for Wen Shiyan up until now? What was the meaning of her existence?
When Chen Ziyun returned, she saw the dull, lifeless look in Lu Yiran’s eyes on the bed.
She and Lu Yiran had known each other since childhood. Because of Lu Yiran’s dream, the idle Chen Ziyun became Lu Yiran’s manager.
She knew Lu Yiran had always liked Wen Shiyan, even defying the Lu family’s opposition to enter the entertainment industry for Wen Shiyan.
Now, seeing Lu Yiran’s lack of spirit, Chen Ziyun also felt very bad.
“Excuse us.”
Hearing the voices outside, Lu Yiran’s eyelashes fluttered slightly, then returned to stillness.
Wen Shiyan and her manager stood at the foot of Lu Yiran’s bed. Wen Shiyan placed the flowers she brought on Lu Yiran’s bedside. “Thank you, Miss Lu. We will try our best to meet Miss Lu’s requests,” the manager said, leaving their contact information.
Wen Shiyan seemed about to say something, but finally pursed her lips and said nothing. Before even sitting down, the two left.
After Wen Shiyan left, Lu Yiran said weakly to Chen Ziyun, “Throw everything away. Throw away everything she brought in.”
Chen Ziyun hesitated at first but eventually complied, throwing the bouquet and the contact information into the trash can outside the ward.
The exquisite bouquet lay quietly in the trash heap. Lu Yiran closed her eyes.
Two days ago during filming, due to a prop master’s mistake, the moment Wen Shiyan was about to be hit by a prop, she instinctively shielded Wen Shiyan.
Who knew that being hit would make her realize she was merely a petty, wicked female supporting character in a Yuri novel.
In the original novel, her love for Wen Shiyan was always unrequited. For Wen Shiyan, she changed her university application and attended Wen Shiyan’s alma mater. Later, she entered the entertainment industry. Despite her terribly poor acting skills, she spent money to join film crews just to get closer to Wen Shiyan.
Since her debut, she had always received more hate than fame. She had previously been criticized heavily on trending topics for spending money to join film crews.
Lu Yiran had experienced all of this firsthand, as it was already a part of her past.
She was currently in the plot where she was dancing on Wen Shiyan’s last nerve, as described in the original novel. The subsequent plot points made her nearly spit blood.
After Wen Shiyan and the female lead were rumored to be dating, she actually framed the female lead. The female lead was criticized for a while, but later, due to Wen Shiyan’s intervention, Lu Yiran ended up being universally hated online, suffering the consequences of her own actions.
A few years later, the female lead returned from abroad. At the airport, she directly posted intimate photos of the female lead and others online, repeatedly challenging Wen Shiyan’s limits. Later, she even kidnapped the female lead. After the female lead was rescued, Lu Yiran was also ruined by Wen Shiyan, her family going bankrupt, and she ended up homeless on the streets.
The reason why she didn’t serve jail time in the original novel was probably because the female lead was “kind-hearted.”
Thus, her miserable life as a supporting character/tool ended, and the two female leads happily ended up together. Thinking of this, a chill ran down Lu Yiran’s spine.
When she woke up again, it was late at night. Lu Yiran, feeling thirsty, fumbled for the cup on the bedside table. Hearing the movement from Lu Yiran’s side, Chen Ziyun got up and placed the cup in Lu Yiran’s hand.
Drinking the warm water, Lu Yiran could no longer hold back. She sniffled her slightly red nose and looked tearfully at Chen Ziyun.
Chen Ziyun was already used to seeing Lu Yiran cry. After all, Lu Yiran was often tearful when she was little, but this time seemed a little different.
Looking at the tear-stained Lu Yiran, Chen Ziyun felt a pang of heartache: “Why are you crying? Did Wen Shiyan bully you?”
Lu Yiran hugged Chen Ziyun and cried, “Wuwuwu, I regret it so much.”
Chen Ziyun really wanted to hit Lu Yiran, but looking at Lu Yiran’s face, she couldn’t bring herself to do it.
Lu Yiran had a pure appearance; with makeup, she looked a little bold. Now, Lu Yiran was bare-faced with red eyes, constantly sniffing, her eye corners and nose flushed. Anyone who saw her would feel sorry for her.
“It’s good that you regret it. I told you not to get close to Wen Shiyan before. Now look, you saved her, and what’s the result?” Chen Ziyun spoke without reserve.
Lu Yiran listened obediently to Chen Ziyun. After Chen Ziyun finished, she sat up slightly and looked tearfully at Chen Ziyun.
“I know I was wrong. I won’t do it again.”
Chen Ziyun looked at Lu Yiran skeptically. She raised an eyebrow and looked at her: “Really?”
Lu Yiran nodded hard: “Absolutely! If I ever like Wen Shiyan again, may I be struck by lightning and not be able to oof…”
Chen Ziyun helplessly put down the hand covering Lu Yiran’s mouth. “Struck by lightning is enough; you don’t need the rest. Let’s make this clear first, the aunties are coming tomorrow. You better think carefully about what to say tomorrow.” After Chen Ziyun finished, she went back to bed to sleep.
Hearing that her mothers were coming, Lu Yiran felt an unprecedented sense of crisis. Finally, she couldn’t fight off the drowsiness and fell asleep. She would worry about tomorrow’s matters tomorrow…
Early the next morning, Lu Yiran was woken up by Chen Ziyun. Lu Yiran rubbed her eyes and looked groggily at Chen Ziyun: “Why did you wake me up so early?”
“You’ve been lying down for two days. Lie down any longer and you’ll go moldy. Hurry up and come out for a walk with me.” Chen Ziyun said, pulling Lu Yiran, who was reluctant to get out of bed. Lu Yiran had no choice but to follow Chen Ziyun out.
Outside, Chen Ziyun gave Lu Yiran her phone. Lu Yiran opened her phone and scrolled through the messages. Sure enough, no one from the crew asked about her condition. Although the crew had blocked the news of her accident, the news inevitably leaked out, but the truth was twisted.
“Why are they all saying I secretly tampered with the props and then suffered the consequences myself?” Lu Yiran said, waving her phone and looking at Chen Ziyun.
“Yiran, don’t listen to them. I’ve been trying my best to contact them about the Weibo situation to get them to clarify, but they haven’t responded yet.” Chen Ziyun paused after speaking.
Lu Yiran leaned on the windowsill, looking out the window: “Is that so? Something that can be solved with just a little effort, what are they doing it for if not for money?”
Chen Ziyun suddenly realized something after hearing that. Damn it! Someone in the crew was intentionally trying to tarnish Lu Yiran’s reputation! She should have thought of it earlier!
“I’ll contact the crew right away.” Chen Ziyun said and quickly walked aside to make a call.
“Director Wang…” Before Chen Ziyun could finish, Director Wang’s voice came from the other end of the phone. “The crew is not going to get involved in this. Miss Chen and Miss Lu, take care,” Director Wang said and hung up. Chen Ziyun was so angry she almost threw her phone on the ground.
Chen Ziyun frowned and went over to Lu Yiran. Seeing Chen Ziyun’s expression, Lu Yiran knew the negotiation had failed.
Lu Yiran looked at Chen Ziyun and said, “I was already hated when I debuted, one more time won’t make a difference, one less time won’t either.”
As Lu Yiran was speaking, Chen Ziyun was shocked to see the person behind Lu Yiran. She winked and whispered to Lu Yiran, “Lu Yiran, look who is behind you.” Chen Ziyun quickly left after speaking. Lu Yiran turned around blankly and was stunned when she saw the person.
“Mothers? Why are you here?” Lu Yiran put her arm behind her back and asked Lu Chiqiu.
“What, if your mother and I didn’t come, you weren’t planning to tell us?” Pei Ruochu folded her arms, clearly a little angry.
Lu Yiran clicked her tongue and shrunk her head.
“Alright, don’t scold Ranran.” Lu Chiqiu lovingly touched Lu Yiran’s forehead: “Does it still hurt?”
Lu Yiran shook her head. Looking at Lu Chiqiu and Pei Ruochu, tears streamed from her eyes, hanging on her long eyelashes. Lu Yiran lowered her head, tightly gripping the corner of her clothes.
Lu Chiqiu gently hugged Lu Yiran and soothingly patted her back: “It’s okay, don’t cry. Let’s go back inside.”
Lu Chiqiu helped Lu Yiran back into the room. Pei Ruochu neatly arranged the things she had brought.
Pei Ruochu was peeling apples for them on the side. Lu Chiqiu sat next to Lu Yiran and asked, “Ranran, what do you plan to do now? Are you coming home?”
Lu Yiran shook her head: “I don’t want to go back yet.”
Pei Ruochu frowned upon hearing this: “Is it because of the person you like?” Lu Yiran quickly explained: “How could it be, I don’t have anyone I like.”
Pei Ruochu naturally didn’t believe her. After all, Lu Yiran had almost severed ties with them to enter the entertainment industry for that person. But seeing Lu Yiran’s injury, Pei Ruochu couldn’t say much. “Lu Yiran, I’ll only allow you one last attempt in the entertainment industry. If the result is still the same, you must immediately come home.” Pei Ruochu said and then left.
Lu Chiqiu stroked Lu Yiran’s head. “You know, your mother cares about you very much. She was very worried when she heard that precious Ranran was injured.”
Lu Yiran knew that her mother’s words just now meant she agreed to let her continue in the entertainment industry.
“Mhm. But, Mom! I’m 23, don’t call me that anymore!” Lu Yiran said to Lu Chiqiu, blushing. Lu Chiqiu smiled and got up: “Then we’ll leave now and come see you tomorrow.”
Watching the door close, Lu Yiran secretly breathed a sigh of relief.
The door opened, and Chen Ziyun stood in front of Lu Yiran, looking a little guilty. Lu Yiran raised an eyebrow at Chen Ziyun: “You’re back?” Chen Ziyun nodded quickly.
Lu Yiran opened a book and looked at it. “It seems I can’t finish my remaining scenes. The crew probably won’t contact us either. Let’s pack up and be discharged this afternoon.”
Hearing that Lu Yiran was going to be discharged, Chen Ziyun looked at Lu Yiran’s injuries with some concern: “Are you really okay?”
Lu Yiran put down the book: “The doctor said I’m fine. I can just rest and recover at home.”
Since Lu Yiran said so, Chen Ziyun had no choice but to go out and handle the discharge procedures for Lu Yiran.
Lu Yiran told Pei Ruochu and the others not to visit her anymore as she was being discharged. They didn’t say anything, only telling Lu Yiran to take good care of herself.
The manager knocked on Wen Shiyan’s door. Entering Wen Shiyan’s room, the manager said to her, “Shiyan, Miss Lu still hasn’t accepted my friend request.” Wen Shiyan put down the notes she was working on. “Mhm. By the way, what’s going on with Weibo?”
“Well… it’s probably the crew. They want Miss Lu to leave the crew on her own and also want to increase their traffic. Miss Lu hasn’t made any moves yet. Should we help her?” Although the manager didn’t like Lu Yiran, a favor owed must be repaid, especially since Lu Yiran saved Wen Shiyan.
“Let’s talk about this tomorrow. How is her condition?”
“I asked the doctor before leaving the hospital. She’s doing well, but she needs a few months of rest.” Hearing the manager’s words, Wen Shiyan thought for a moment, then said to her, “Check what caused the prop accident.”
After the manager left, Wen Shiyan looked at the compilation about Lu Yiran, the expression on her face not too pleasant. Finally, she gave up, put down her phone, and continued to make notes on the script.
After Lu Yiran finished packing, she was about to leave when Chen Ziyun pushed her into a wheelchair.
“This is too exaggerated. I don’t need a wheelchair,” Lu Yiran said, trying to get up, but was pushed back by Chen Ziyun. “We bought it already, don’t waste it.” Chen Ziyun said, picking up their belongings and pushing Lu Yiran out.
The two were very noticeable, especially Lu Yiran. Passersby occasionally glanced at them. Seeing this, Lu Yiran pulled her hat down.
Pushed by Chen Ziyun all the way, they finally reached the parking spot.
After putting the wheelchair away, the two sat in the car. Chen Ziyun drove in the front: “The crew hasn’t said anything yet, likely not wanting to take responsibility for this accident.”
“Whatever, I’m going to start resting once I get back anyway.” Lu Yiran said, closing her eyes and pretending to sleep.
